Talent, sincerity and admiration volley back and forth as Eric Valentine and Aaron Sterling discuss the range of tone offered by these Sugar Percussion, stave-built snare drums.
Eric Valentine has such advanced techniques and has created such amazing gear like his Drumbrella, his own hybrid consoles, his remote mic placement shuttles etc., that he is the one who deserves the repeated compliments. Not that Aaron Sterling is not worthy, but Eric is a master's master of audio.
What's that kick drum made off ? Awesome sounding piece. The Alaskan Yellow Cedar snare is complementing that kick beautifully. Great video, thanks a lot for sharing this.

Superb mic´ing. Well, superb everything. But great mic choice and positions!
Eric Valentine you are the man! Love the tracking.
Incredible sounding drums! Also I didn't realize that Matt Damon had a red bearded brother that is also an amazing drummer
Aaaargh.. Fantaaastic Snare Sound!!
tracking chain info please! great drums!
Ebony gets my vote
Sounds great boys! Any additional info on the room mics, the mic next to the AEA, and what Overheads you were using in addition to the 4038?
Next to the AEA I think is a 414 EB.
Guessing the mics are RCA44 and C12a on snare, EV 666 on kick, Coles 4038s on underheads and maybe Sony C37a’s on overhead/room.
i really liked the cherry and the ebony
Ebony sounded great man.
Cedar for me had a certain tone that I liked.
Every drum that produced and recorded by Eric Valentine become GOLD sounding, for lack of a better word.
Jesus. Eric is the god of rock drums to me. Holy crap, so good.
Great player and fantastic drums. Will you guys do a pass with identical tuning new time?

Totally agree.
Individually I think I prefer the Ebony. But as a full kit, the Cedar for sure.
The kick is a 20x13 Mahogany.
I really love the cedar. Great playing!
Love these snares but holy crap that bass drum is on point.
that bass tho
Awesome stuff guys. your studio is top notch. How the drummer buries the click so easily like that is quite impressive to say the least.
Great snare sounds, GREAT drumming!
Supercool!
Truly a great talented drummer, really hope that he will join the next Mayer tour
He won't, but Steve Jordan ain't no joke either!
