      @@margaretstephens6649 Mr Trebus was indeed not bothered by the Council. Sadly he was billed by them, to the tune of tens of thousands of pounds for clearing his garden.
      His hoarding was probably a result of privation at some time in his life.
      His house would be worth a fortune though...London isn't cheap.

    he eventually moved into an old folks home shortly before he died and the pity is that he was eventually happy there and wished that he'd done it years before....

    Mr Trebus son is a good friend of mine. Mr Trebus served with the Polish army during the war. Apparently he got reprimanded for crashing his tank during the Italian campaign. He was a tough guy who had lots of gruesome experience. Probably what he did then was the by-product of the war.
    I can still remember my friend R. Trebus (SON) harsh experience from some of our ex-coworker when BBC released this documentary. It was really awful on his side.
    His son was the most nicest and intelligent person I've ever met. He really did not deserve the bullying he had from some dickheads ex-coworkers of ours. I think in the end it broke him. I really miss my friend. I hope I will see him again and spend some wonderful chat about anything and everything.

      That's a really shitty thing to say Matt. You don't know the situation and from what I understand people with this problem are mentally sound for the most part and are extremely resistant to being helped. Look up Diogenes syndrome and that's one of the defining characteristics.

    • @MichelleB2b
      @MichelleB2b 6 років тому +10

      As per Franticks suggestion- Diogenes syndrome aka as Senile Squalor Syndrome, is a disorder characterized by extreme self-neglect, domestic squalor, social withdrawal, apathy, compulsive hoarding of garbage or animals, and lack of shame. Sufferers may also display symptoms of catatonia.

    • @billieteggers2661
      @billieteggers2661 5 років тому +9

      Matt Wroe you obviously don't know any hoarders. They don't want to be helped and don't care what anyone else thinks, that's the condition.

    Mr Trebus R.I.P , I seen a lot of comments on this video , people say Council did the wrong thing , and its was the council fault he died.
    Lets start from the beginning , Mr Trebus was trapped in the home because he had made tunnel`s in his home , one of the tunnels came down on him and he was trapped for 2 days, it was lucky someone heard him calling for help , question is what would of happened if no one found him , then emergency services report it back to environmental health, When Mike turn up to Mr Trebus house look the way he trying to hold on to a ladder water bottle and walk across all the rubbish , one slip, and it could of put Mr trebus in hospital with head injury , or broken leg or arm, SO I TOTAL AGREE THAT THE COUNCIL DID THE RIGHT THING , IT NOT ALWAYS ABOUT MONEY , THERE THINKING OF HIM , NO WATER NO HEATING NO ELETRIC , then i watch the video of MR TREBUS IN THE CARE HOME , MARIA HIS CARER DID A FANTASTIC JOB , MR TREBUS WAS THE MAN WHO HE SHOULD BE , WHEN I SEE MR TREBUS GETTING OF THE MINI BUS FROM HIS CARER`S HOME TO HIS LUNCH TIME MEAL WHAT A SMILE HE HAD ON HIS FACE, WE LOOKED SO HAPPY , THE CARE HOME MADE HIM SAFE , WARM , SECURITY , AND HIS HEALTH WAS BETTER AND HE LOOKED MORE HAPPY , so at the end of the day the Council did the right thing , as a Carer my self i would of done the same for MR TREBUS taken him out of the home and put him into a care home. watch the last video and see the diffrence A Life of Grime/Edmund Zygfryd Trebus/Eccentric Extraordinaire.

    Think I was about 12 when this came out and for some reason I've always remembered Mr Trebus. I couldn't understand why he wanted to live in those conditions but his fighting spirit stuck with me. Turns out I used to drive right past his house on my commute to work for nearly ten years and never knew. Sad to see how much distress it caused him but it really needed doing. Still love him sticking it to the man though haha

      This was NOT a decent program. The was the unforgivable merciless persecution of a war hero by a disgusting parasitic organisation (BBC) seeking nothing more than a cheap sensationalist 30 minutes of 'entertainment'. The guy from the council is no better than the makers if this tripe. RIP Mr Trebus.

    This man fought on both sides in the Second World War, this must have took great bravery. He had 4 children which he seldom seen. London had to destroy him though, property prices, all the “trendy” and modern world which he didn’t want a part of, just wanted to live the rest of his life in peace, not surprising considering the horrors he’d have seen. R.I.P Mr Trebus, I was in awe of you as a child watching this program. Always asking my mum, why don’t they leave the old man alone? He was a man from a world that eroded around him.
