Stupid Tin Whistle Tricks - C# Roll
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 бер 2020
- This is not something I use all the time nor would I recommend using it all the time. Since you can't do a proper roll on C# (because there's no note above to cut) this is a fun trick that you can throw in to simulate the effect.
Check out Stuart Liddell's insane piping: • Stuart Liddell - Lunch...

So I checked out your videos and I really enjoy how no nonsense they are.
I found them outstandingly useful and my playing has improved A LOT, thank you!
Ps. I checked out your older vids too and you look great mate. Keep it up!
Cool trick, love it! Gives the impression of a being fast, sounds good.
This is really funny, enjoyed it. Subscribed.
Nuala Kennedy showed me that a couple of years ago, she got in from Cathal O’Connell. You’re right not something you’d use much but handy to know. Another tune it work in is Out on the Ocean if you play it in A, the first long C#.
Ahh, she's a wonderful player!
Thank you for your video . Yep our routine is the same ! I’m also still playing Irish flute and whistle. I appreciate your video , it is refreshing break from coved 19 . Please keep posting. Stay healthy and safe ! Smiles from canada 🇨🇦 ☘️ 🎶
Cheers, thanks a bunch!
I just used this in ‘Tripping up the stairs’ - penultimate bar of first section if you play in D. It does actually sound like you’re tripping a bit!
Love your channel. Am learning a lot. Thanks so much!!
Thanks for the kind words!
I reckon if you play a cut imprint of the finger wave on the c# you get a more rhythmic effect too :-) very cool trick :-)
Great stuff Sean, I just discovered the C# roll myself a few weeks ago when watching Brian Finnegan play the wave sweeper by John McSherry. Also Stuart Liddell is great however its pronounced Liddle as in rhyming with little rather than Ly-dell! Great piper, best wishes and hope you're well - from Scotland.
Ohhh is that right? No idea I've been mispronouncing his name forever! Cheers Martin!
Twaz great fun!
Good trick that. Nice to see you give a nod to a bagpiper. There are some amazing pipers out there! I get lots of my inspiration from bagpipe tunes having grown up around Scottish folk music and have fond memories of Cowal Highland Games when I was a lad. P.S. I don't play the pipes myself, only whistle.
Totally agree - there's some useful crossover techniques that work well on the whistle. And oh! I just got an idea for another quick one of these - another bagpipe ornament. More to follow ;)
Neat trick son 😃 I cant see using it much but, I love learning little embellishments. Is anyone else having trouble subscribing? I tried 3 times but it keeps taking me to a ad for a newspaper. I'll just add this video to a play list so I can come back and check up on what's new. If you have anymore tricks or embellishments I really enjoy learning them. Thanks again for sharing 😉👍
Huh, that's weird about the subscriptions, not sure what the story is there! But yeah you're right, not a very practical embellishment but good for lols :)
Please tell me what this model is?😍🙏🙏
Woooooowwwww
Can you do a video on tonguing? When, where, why, even how if you really wanted. I feel like a good tongue can have a positive impact on a tune, thanks
I did one a thousand years ago (ua-cam.com/video/jW8gvuzV_to/v-deo.html) but maybe it's time for a refresh!
Thanks for that. 😊 I would love you to do a tutorial on how to blow a whistle properly. I was told to kind of yawn and open the back of my throat, but im struggling to do this. Do you have a good way to explain this?
Hmm - that's a tough thing to explain but I can see how the yawn thing would work. I'd say aim for using as little air as possible to get strong tone, which is surprisingly a very small amount.
Neat trick😊, thanks. What whistles do you like the most except Gary Humphreys and what scales you play and like mostly? I like Sindt, Boisvert and Pat O'Riordan. Mostly I play D, C, Bb, A and F.👍✌
I've got a Bb Sindt which I love - I had a great set of PVC whistles made by Glenn Schultz that were amazing but sadly the headjoint cracked on those years ago. I've played (but not owned) a bunch of O'Riordans and they're lovely as well. My other favorite was a Copeland D which I sold once I got my first Humphrey but it was a wonderful whistle!
The C# in a D major, needs all the help it can get..........
I died watching this lol
Brother,I have a question. I am learning the song the star of the county down and on the repeated c natural ooxxoo can you cut or tap the b to do the repeated c natural. Maybe it's a silly question.I am fairly new. Thank you and I appreciate your videos.
Not a silly question at all, I'd do a tap myself though a cut would probably work just as well - cheers!
@@whistletutor thank you so much. I will try that. I hope that you have a great day,and I appreciate your tips , advice and great tutorial videos!!!
Your funny
