@@snughly I believe the Kasimi theory and want to ask something: What do you think the items in Takae's drawer mean? If you take a key from one drawer (Maybe from the teapot, I can't remember) and use it to open the locked one, there are two items in the locked drawer: a letter to Maryanne where Kasumi seems to display really severe dissociation, but also a copper/brass ring. Not a ring you'd wear, it's bigger. I've never ever known what it meant, but I get a really unsettling feeling looking at it and wondering what it and its purpose are; it also looks tarnished somehow. My guess is, Kasumi was wearing it as a bracelet or it had some role in her last moments, and Takae found it and hid it away either before or after the police arrived. This is a great video btw! you always do such awesome work :)
The fact that Kasumi may have killed herself (personally, I kinda think she did, but only because she realized she had some sort of terminal illness, since in her letters to Maryanne, to me it kinda sounds that her mental and physical health was declining) makes the fact that Nancy refuses to leave the family alone even worse :( And the story with Renate's sister is so sad. My guess would be the Red Army had to do something with her disappearance/death.
I don't like the incest theory, myself. As a Southerner (from Texas, but my dad's side of the family is from New Orleans and my mom's side is from Kentucky, where there has been talk of incestual CSA in our family but nothing that produced a child that we know of) I feel like people come up with incest theories because that's just how they see Southerners. My alternative theory is that Jackson did have a secret and knew who Clara's father was, but it wasn't him, it was one of their workers and Rosalie was underage. This doesn't make the story much better, but it explains why the family may have felt shame, maybe because they didn't protect their daughter, or maybe they even had the worker killed. In any case, it would make Clara's parentage very icky to talk about, because it would imply the usual Thornton way of "business over family."
Holy shit that was a fuckin trip. I just happened to come across your video by happenstance. Listening through the video and then "InkDagger on reddit says...". I had to do a double take. Triple take. It took me utterly by surprise to be referenced in a Nancy Drew video. Thank you for citing me. I appreciate it and it just made my day as I head into Thanksgiving.
Thank YOU for your insightful theory which helped fuel this video! Fan theories are some of my favourite things to come out of the fandom and I love reading new ones that feel really well thought out, like your ideas! What a cool coincidence that you just stumbled onto this video organically! Happy Thanksgiving!
I fully believe Kasumi killed herself. In fact, I convinced myself of this so fully that when I replayed that game after a while I was shocked that this wasn't actually part of the story.
There's something that always confused me. In the room Takae is in, there's that chest of drawers with the teapot in it, and one drawer is locked. I think if you get a key from the teapot you can open it, and there's a letter and another object inside. In the letter Kasumi says she can see the gears of the world turning, or something like that. The other thing in the drawer is a brass/copper looking ring, big enough to be a bracelet, but I've never known what it was supposed to be or mean. Have you ever seen it? The metal is kind of clouded/tarnished when you look closely too
These are some of my favorite ND videos. I love any dark twists on the game that involve really analyzing the characters. I’m so happy I found your channel :)
Half the fun of your channel is seeing what new look you have in the video! LOL Another great job, Snugs. I only knew about the first. They were all fascinating. The real mystery is: how does Soren not have an Icelandic accent?
Thank you!! I think he does mention that we went to university in America so that explains that (somewhat, I don't know how you'd lose your native accent after just a few years in a different country but oh well)
Your videos are honestly some of the best in the Nancy Drew community, I believe. You did wonderfully with this video, I was engaged the entire time! I'm going to share this on my tumblr :D (Also, I hope you're doing well and I will make a better effort to pop into your Twitch channel soon because it's been too long since we've been able to hang out there
love me some spooky speculations! I'd love to hear more if you find anything else ☺️ I might be missing some pieces not having played the game, but the one about the homophobia seems like the weakest one between these
Also Elinor penvylens “father” might have been gay Also there’s a theory that charlotte thorntons ghost is real. When you’re standing at the end of the hallway and her bedroom door is open, we can see clearly into the room even though we don’t know what the inside looks like.
If the first theory is true, then Clara's grandfather must have FORCED HIMSELF onto Rosalie. He must have been a pretty terrible person if Rosalie took the identity of Clara's father to the grave and have the secret die with her AND for him to be taken out of the family tree. If this was consensual, which I seriously doubt it was, then Rosalie would have told Clara that her grandfather was also her father.
I have an even darker theory about Kasumi I’d like to float; it wasn’t suicide. Rather, I think Takae murdered her, and now has suppressed the memory of it, or is so convinced she was correct that she’s now convinced even herself of her own lies.
None of them really liked her a lot either! It could be that only Soren knew about her ex-partner (as his texts with Dagny are the only reference to her sexuality that we see in the game)
I love your discussion of GoTH as a southern gothic! One English major to another, any recommended reads in the genre? Love these vids btw, so juicy! 😊😊
Thank you!! I would recommend The Color Purple by Alice Walker, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, Beloved by Toni Morrison, The Little Friend by Donna Tarte, and my problematic choice is anything by William Faulkner. Also I'm always looking for book recs in any genre so please feel free to share any you have!
@@snughly Ah, SO many good ones in there! I love ZNH and Toni Morrison but haven’t gotten into Tarte yet (or had the mental fortitude to dive into Faulkner lol). Will give Donna a try! Let’s see… for my local bookstore’s monthly read I just finished Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata-super postmodern, odd, disturbing, and delightful. If you read, go in blind with no reviews (but do look up some trigger warnings since some material can be sensitive). I’m working my way through Wolf Hall now and am loving it!
Hey Snughly. There's something about the Soren theory I don't understand. If HER had the first-ever openly gay character (canonically!), isn't it strange that they'd reference HER sexuality, and not his? I realize I am looking at this as a straight man, but it seems odd to me that they'd mention HER, and not HIM. please help
It's just a fan theory! Also I don't know what goes through the minds of HeR Interactive devs lol. I would maybe guess they felt they were already rocking the boat with one gay character, hence why they had to semi-hide the reference to Dagny's sexuality. Remember that Penny Milikin is allegedly quite conservative in her values.
I like these theories but the worst one is the Soren one... Iceland is super gay and what actual evidence do we see that Soren is mistreated? He fakes an injury with the icepack! He also doesn't do anything to help the town...he kidnaps a man and tries to steal historic treasure! He deserves his punishment in the end! He's a villain, not a victim
I do not get this whole thing about making people's sexuality a huge part of their personality. There are way more interesting aspects of each ND character to focus on, not to mention that talking about sexual attraction in a kids' game is inappropriate...
The Kasumi puzzle strongly reminds me of Jake’s messages in Secrets can kill
Definitely!!!!

I didn’t know you had an English degree! Now that I think about it, it really shows in your thoughtful analysis. :) I love these videos!

This is very spooky cool but I can not play any more her interactive content until they add a ghost cat into their games

Interesting! I hadn't heard of the first 2 theories.
If they were homophobic towards Soren, what about Dagny? I can’t remember if they were rude to her or not or if they just accepted her as a visitor
None of them really liked her a lot either! It could be that only Soren knew about her ex-partner (as his texts with Dagny are the only reference to her sexuality that we see in the game)
She probably ONLY told Soren as a fellow queer person. And if anyone in Skipbrot acted bigoted towards her, she’d just up and leave.
