Hi Jimmy, STEND£C has nothing to do with RAF short hand. The most likely explanation is -
" A recognized signoff or 'end of message' signal was 'AR' (with no space between the letters). Therefore a standard signoff would be sent as the Morse '._._.' in other words 'EC' without the space. If the messages from Star Dust were sent quickly it is quite conceivable that spaces were misinterpreted. A common message at the time was "Standard Arrival" followed by the direction from which the aircraft was arriving, so in this case if we simply shift a couple of spaces from 'STENDEC' we are left with 'S T A R E AR' or STandard/ARrival/East/signoff:
    S T A R E AR
    … _ ._ ._. . ._._."

Well I read through most of the comments and didn't see what I'm about to post so here it is.
The 747 over NY was attributed to a fuel pump spark or over heating. The reason was that was a 747 Heavy but did not have a full load so they didn't fill all of the fuel tanks one of them being the center fuel tank. The transfer pump in that empty tank was left on and it overheated to cause the crash.
As I understand it we had the same issue with the B52 BUF's. The way I heard it was we lost a few in Vietnam and they were attributed to enemy fire. But after the war was over in their training flights here in the US it was a standard training Mission to depart Barksdale AFB in Shreveport LA, climb out meet a KC130 over Fort Worth Tx refuel and head out to the desert out west. Make a practice bombing run on a target from altitude and then head down to the deck at 500 to 1000 ft to hide from the scramble of F4's or other fighters that were sent up to play tag. They were camo painted on the top of the wings. Thus had to find from above.
After that fun and games they would climb out, get refueled and head back to Barksdale. The issue was that every once and a while they would loose a Buff at low flight and there was no enemy fire to blame. They could get to the aircraft and see what actually happened. Turns out it was a wing fuel pump issue. The fix was to maintain X number of gallons in certain tanks which kept the pumps cool and it doesn't happen. Banking with low fuel in the wing tanks exposed the pumps and caused overheating.
Those same pumps are in the fuel system of the 747. And that same problem still exists in both aircraft.
This was related to me by a Buff driver in the USAF flying out of Barksdale sometime back.
I have no reason to doubt it.

As a A&P mechanic TWA 800 affected how I did work, one thing was that wire bundles had to be secured by clamps or string tie every one inch, not 1.1 inches but 1 inch or less between string ties. Some aircraft had to have all fuel pumps replaced etc. Some of the victims were a high school French students going to France, they were from a county in the middle of PA that I travel thru to visit relatives.

Hi, Jimmy, I am 79 years old and an U.S. Army veteran. When I got out of the Army I took hired out with a marina in my hometown of St.Pete. Fla. to take a man on his last adventure up the "Shark River" in the Everglades. About fifteen miles in land on the river we met up with a group of the Osceola tribe of Seminole Indians and stayed with them for three weeks. During that little stay we were shown around the Glades and I stood on the wing of an an upside down Avenger which had a Skeleton in the cockpit! Plus two other Avengers about a football field apart also upside down though they were completely submerged with about two feet of water over the aircraft wings. Now there is an "Anomaly" which happens on the Gulf Of Mexico which used to be called "Virga" (today Virga is something entirely different) What happens is when the Gulf Of Mexico becomes perfectly calm and becomes a mirror surface reflecting clouds and the sun. When flying an aircraft of the WWll era their gauges were very simple and a pilot without much experience flying over water can get confused as to which is up and which is down and might roll over thinking he was upside down. That is the reason why "OLD PILOTS" had a "bead chain" with a heavy trinket hanging from the roof of the cockpit between the seats in the cockpit so, if you are flying upside down the chain is piled up! Works better than a "ping pong ball" with a line painted on it and a weight in it! Also the landing gear on the planes were retracted in their wings! No way to prove this statement as everyone is dead but me! --> Barney Krider U.S. Army veteran ( no smart phone just flip phone>unable to text)...B.K.

That is wild! I think there are special people that the government hires to go to places where strange things happen. The men in BLACK! There are many stories about Sasquatch being hit by cars or trucks. A couple of people show up and tell the people who hit them that it was a bear. They threaten them with jail time if they tell anyone. I heard another story from a person who shot a female Sasquatch, and 2 men showed up to talk to him after a Game Warden talked to him. That story he told on Sasquatch Chronicles.

I think you need to fly into the Bermuda triangle. It's so close to you that you have to do it! How about retracting the path of Flight 19? Make it interesting and use only the types of instruments that they had, which I presume must have been VFR. You can always use your GPS if you get lost and you have no other choice.

Bit of useless information, I sailed my little 30 foot sail boat 1000 miles from Puerto Rico to Bermuda in 1993 and that course is the eastern edge of the Bermuda Triangle. It also crosses the Puerto Rico trench, about 3 miles deep. Deepest water in the N Atlantic I think. I'm pleased to report the passage was made in 10 days and we didn't disappear. It is an area with unusual magnetic properties. Thank heaven for GPS.

The first one the Lancastrian that crashed into a glacier on the mountain was found a long time after , STENDEC is still a mystery . How ever to explain the crash they had a head wind and had failed to take this into account that it would slow their progress . So navigation being what it was back then speed , time and bearing etc ....they thought they had passed the mountain range and descended at the time they reckoned they had cleared the Mountains ....Sadly a mistake as because of the head wind they hadn't crossed the Mountain and controlled flight straight into the side of it !! . Least if i remember what i read is correct , it was a while ago .

I've always felt the Morise Code sent was keyed saying "Send SOS" I believe the receiving station operator heard Stendec. The pilot probably communicated to his radio operator "Send SOS" and in the excitement his radio operator was transmitting "Send SOS" repeated three times instead of just SOS three times... An excited Morise code operator keying (Send SOS) could easily be interpreted and heard as STENDEC... Without a tape backup we may never know.

@@zeberdee1972 The Pundit system sounds like a great idea. I've been flying aircraft since 1966 and wasn't aware of this system till just now. I can see why some would think it antiquated however when traveling VFR just exploring, I can see great benefit. I'm surprised that Pundit systems aren't/weren't employed in America. Now I need to research it. I reside in Dallas, Texas, about five minutes South of DFW international airport. The #1 British Flight School Museum is in Terrell, Texas USA. It's about 35 minutes from my home. I have good friends there and will make inquiry. I love the new GPS and ADSB and moving map system but still love flying my steam gauges. It costs a LOT of money. Most dead airplanes remain dead because they are not financially viable to fix. If you look at Rebuild Rescue's Cessna 401 and compare the spend to the cost of a good one, it just makes no sense unless you can get a lot of freebies and sponsors. Many car based channels are the same way, with the wrecked exotics costing far more than a comparable clean car without a branded title. They only exist because the ad revenue and Patreon partners make it possible.

As i have a huge phobia about flying ....(.i mean crashing !!! ) For me to board any commercial flight i would need your presence in the cock pit and or or be fully anesthetised, oh i forgot the parachute and my pockets stuffed full with pain killers. but intellectually i do know that my my paranoia flies or crashes in the face of the statistics these days, thanks to science, and i,m happy to take the vaccine regularly, so i can listen to reason on occasions, Take care Jimmy i love watching your channel.

Because there are no airports in Antarctica and it is impossible to send a rescue teams, so it is impossible to travel safely and within regulations between Australia and Argentina.
So unless someone is willing to fund this expedition on their own, that's not going to happen, because no business will want to associate its name with a potentially suicidal flight.

There's another youtuber on here who does flight training and he calculated it over 20k to get the license with all the associated requirements. It isn't cheap at all. I havent seen one on maintenence yet. He said once you have the license you always have it, but I'd think you would have to keep up something. Hell, I do in my career and it isn't flying. Lol.

I was on a aircraft carrier in the Bermuda triangle when 3 cargo ships disappeared! The weather was a bit bad and 50% of the crew on the carrier were seasick. A destroyer pick up one survivor floating on a "hatch cover". He transported to carrier for medical attention (he was beet red when carried off the Helo. Yep, a real mystery as to why the ships disappeared!

Flight 19 where TBM’S Torpedo bombers after flying from Fort Lauderdale out to an old haulk for practice bombing was supposed to then fly right back. Basically a triangle pattern after which they never were heard from again. When the lead Pilot informed when we get down to ten gallons of gas they all ditch together. see if you Jimmy can find an owner of a tbm you go up as a tail gunner and see the route fly back ‘what could go wrong’?
