Cruciamentum will be very high on my list for this year, just a fucking awesome album. Malokarpatan is also one that really kicked in this year. Do you to feel that Marduk and Funeral Mist are getting very similar? Or is it just me? Cheers.
yeah i can see that.....some co-efficient though eh? maybe it's great to have two great releases from the same source/s? Cruciamentum might have been higher given a few more months
Thank you for the recommendations. I rely on videos such as yours to guide me through the post Terrorizer world. The list is really varied and balanced and full of new music to explore, which is wonderful. As an aside, I am still excited about Nifelheim since Devils force in 1998 but I appreciate I may be in the minority. 😂
The podcast is excellent BTW intelligent, conscientious and varied. I look forward to it every Friday so thank you very much for all the hard work.

Pleased to see Hexvessel's Polar Veil get some love, as that was my #1 album of the year by a mile. Grave Pleasures best yet taking #2 spot. Matt's on fire, creatively speaking 🔥
False Lankum might be my favorite of the year. Also love the new Spirit Possession, a tad more thrashier and rocking Negative Plane sound.
Order From Chaos is the best band ever though
New Lankum I find more interesting than before, darker and more soundscape vibes, don't know spirit possession, will check them out and yep! up there....
The first song on the Wytch Hazel album is very possibly the song of the year. You just don’t hear songs that are as comfortable in their own skin as that very often.
Besides some of the releases that were already mentioned in the other comments, I would like to recommend Tsjuder - Helvegr and Asagraum - Veil of Death, Ruptured.

I have to admit I felt the weight of the deluge this year and barely listened to anything new. Of the new albums that came out, Primordial got the most spins for sure. I also liked the new Incantation, & the new albums from Panopticon & Solbrud sound promising after a spin or 2. Really liked that Verminous Serpent album as well, Alan. Did a deep dive into 70’s and 80’s hard rock and metal instead this year. Greatly looking forward to new Priest, Saxon, Bruce Dickinson in 2024, as well as Vltimas. Hoping for a new Grand Magus album as well!
I remember having a year like that somewhere in around 1997 or 1998 where all I did was buy up tons of albums from the 70s I'd never heard, Uriah Heep, Mountain, MC5, Bad Company that kinda thing.....
@@AlanAverill666 Yeah man, there’s so much great music from back then. It was a time of killer, organic analog production and just top notch bands that could deliver. Really loving Dio-era Rainbow especially, among the many others. One album I finally listened to recently that kept popping up in my feed is “Hard Attack” by Dust. Heard it? Completely awesome. Features none other than Marc Bell, aka Marky Ramone on drums.

I don’t know how you could possibly listen to and fully digest this many albums in one year. Cheers to you though. This is a prime example of the constant deluge of new music. Impossible (for me) to keep up with.
That Cruciamentum album is bloody excellent.. 👌 well worth the 8 year wait...

@AlanAverill666 looks like YT is auto deleting the link here, even though it points to the album on YT. Triumpher is a new Greek band. "Storming the Walls" is their debut. Absolutely stunning traditional metal without the cliches. Certainly influenced by early Manowar but with a much greater attention to detail and the dark desperation of other Greek bands in the vein of Battleroar etc...

You forgot the almighty "Tetragrammacide" with their aptly titled "Typho-Tantric Aphorisms from the Arachneophidian Qur'an". Best album to come out this year without question. It's not even up for debate. Also I'm curious as to what band it was that you had left off the list because of how politically incorrect they were. Was it the new Arghoslent album? The new Goatmoon album? What was it?

My top 12 in some sort of order would be.....Meporash/None/Begotten/Рожь (RYE)/All Hell/White Death/Mavorim/Nornir/Wayfarer (best live band too)/Primordial/Gel/Neon Odin/ it was a lot easier this year, honourable mentions should go for Skuggor and the new Atronos which i heard last night and i'm about to go blast it again in a minute
yeah you know what I mean though.....wow so much more stuff I've not heard, this 'to check out' list is becoming daunting

New Hexvessel I have given a few listens, got to hear that Grave Pleasures though...and Laibach! One of my favorites Nova Arkopola (sp?) Good list man use to dig some Aeternus a LONG time ago can't believe they are still around. Clandestine Blaze is solid can never go wrong with Mikko IMO. What are your thoughts on the last Deathspell?
On the christian themes, Virgin Black, Elend, and Lux Interna have all been favorites of mine. All Christian. C93 is the more obvious one. Music is music, shit Sabbath is ultimately a Christian rock band people completely confused the lyrics!
