Maybe wins out allllllllllll the time. It's just that most peoples maybe's are no big deal to other people.
This is great. He is slightly wrong at the end, though. As a comedian he's not obligated to get his facts right, but the way in which he's wrong is actually pretty harmful to anyone who would take him seriously so I feel like correcting him anyway. Here goes: We don't have to cause misery in order to be an innovative society with nice things. The only reason it is that way now is because the global economy is set up to generate short-term profits for shareholders at so many costs - among them the wellbeing of working people. Even small companies operate this way. The notion that our only choices are this current system or going back to candles and horses is a lie propagated by our owners, just like the lie that human beings are inherently savage and stupid so they need masters to tell them what to do. Another lie is that we need to be constantly buying new things and making upgrades in our lives in order to be happy. It leaves the average worker in a perpetual state of wanting; never being truly satisfied with what they already have. If workers elected their board members and had the ability to remove them, and if everyone played a role in company decisions, we could all be making a lot more money and would be far more efficient and happy in our work. We wouldn't have to put our tails between our legs when dealing with cruel or selfish people in positions of power and we would have the time and energy to cultivate the creative and passionate aspects of ourselves. Oh yeah, and we wouldn't be using the whole of the third world as a source of cheap labor where we can subvert democracies in order to install brutal dictators who will allow us to stake claims on natural resources and human beings.
