This is my 1st time listening Status Coup News and my 40,014th time listening to Dr. West - aka the Brother with a Christian Socialist Soul & Platform That Sings !!! This date, March 7th, 2024, Brother Jordan earned my deep respect. Thanks, Brother Jordan - you enriched my afternoon. Now, for my 40,014th session with Brother Cornel, just the usual: depth, compassion, insights, in-your-face attacks on all oppressions, and that sincere Christian Socialist Smile. You may wonder how I am able to spit these lyrics? Born January 15th, 1952. Taught my high school peoples the histories of the U.S. Empire for decades. Sincerely loved by the peoples in the Chocolate City of East Orange. And inspired for a minute - 46 and ½ years - by my Chocolate Sister & Partner, and her extended, loving family that helped nourish this Beige Brother with their wisdoms, love, and warmth. Thanks To All & And A Big Up. True Indeed. Word !!
First, he was running with the Peoples Party. Then he told the Greens that he wanted their nomination and committed to them that he was in it to win it and wanted to move the party forward. After a little while, he said that having to participate in party politics was a drag and hampered his ability to do what he wanted to do when he wanted to do it. He proudly proclaimed that the jazz man was "Independent" and hired Doud to manage his campaign. Doud unexpectedly resigns. To gain ballot access in Alaska and Oregon, he aligns with other parties? Then he forms his own party. West claims that the Justice for All party is just a vehicle to qualify to get on the ballot in some states with fewer signatures. Is West or the people leading the Justice for All party recruiting more people to run for office as he travels around the country? Why vote for Cornell if there is nothing substantial left after the election should he lose? If the Greens get just 5%, they qualify for more money in subsequent elections and will have to spend fewer resources to get on the ballot moving forward. The Greens are helping people get elected to local, state, and Congressional offices too. Sorry, but I do not see West doing much to build an organization that will live on after he is gone. He likes to talk about a movement but as a Professor, public speaker, and improvisational jazz man he has never had to lead a team. It is apparent to me that he does not appreciate the team or the work required to keep an organization moving forward. He doesn't understand that a bunch of guys riding across the country on fumes runs the risk of getting stranded and missing the event versus traveling with a caravan of committed workers who have made the trip before and are teaching the young among them how to keep the buses moving despite the obstacles thrown up by the Democrats and Republicans.
If you haven't already, please join your local Green Party and vote for Jill in the primary. Make a donation. Volunteer. Write some letters to the Editor. You have a gift of written word, please, reach out to the campaign and ask how to get involved.
It became apparent that West was not actually serious about running. Sorry to say that I smell book deal and free exposure. Why would he have made the moves he made if it were otherwise?
So West is evolving. Is that bad? Why does he (and all his supporters and like minded people) have to mold him-/themselves to the Green Party. Why can't the Green Party and other such forces not join or otherwise support the West campaign? Ultimately a coalition would be necessary. True, West needs to focus more on getting all kinds of other similar down ballot candidates elected (local, state, federal) because it will be of no use to have West in the White House without support in the rest of government. But to have people like you and other naysayers detract from his/our potential is frustrating. You seem to be favoring a "Tri-opoly" that is just as nefarious as a duopoly. Quit party politics, get behind the issues. The Justice for All Party is just a practical measure/instrument for a specific purpose, not a governing body.
You could write to Jill and convince her to get the Green Party to support the West campaign. What better way to have a non-partisan issues-based movement than to have Green, Bernie, Independents, etc, coalesce behind a true progressive? Stop the party BS. Of course, West had to create this Justice for All party, but not as a governing body, just to facilitate the ballot access in some states.
@@ignacioduran5993 If I were to write to anyone it would be Dr West. But if Ajamu Baraka was unable to convince him to reconsider, what chance do I have?
Dr. West is a great speaker but he's being too short-sighted about the Green Party. You need people committed to you... the people doing all the hard work on the ground. So going through all of those internal debates builds cooperation and a dedicated corp of folks who do that groundwork. You know all those people you need to get ballot access and make phone calls for you. That's why I decided to support Jill Stein. She's not as exciting as Dr. West but she's got great values and intelligence and understands it's not just her if there's going to be some impact on the two garbage corporate parties.
Exactly why I am surprised and disappointed in him...these are not the times to be short sighted. I had hoped they would have joined up by now for the 'greater good'.
I think there is also a discussion here in this conversation that can be had about how being way too involved in ones own bylaws and bureaucratic process also serves at a certain point to become deleterious to the efficacy of the movement. Stein has also said this problem vexed her with the Greens prior to West's experience in response to his departure. The reality is, Dr. West is right - if we keep coming back to progressives and the poor and working class with no results, who wins in the mean time while we grasp wildly for solidarity on all the nuance of every issue? We're talking about solutionism here, it's experimental and it will require certain measures of compromise and that's not the answer everyone wants to hear about their personal positions.
Julius, if you haven't already, please join your local Green Party and vote for Jill in the primary. Make a donation. Volunteer. Please, reach out to the campaign and ask how to get involved.
On the contrary, Jill Stein should get herself and the Green Party supporters as issue supporters, not as "party members" behind the West campaign. We need a multipolar non-partisan coalition of forces. Get previous supporters of Bernie, Greens, Independents, non-voters, as well as all the disaffected Rep and Dem voters, all behind the West platform, and you will have a winning coalition. Parties are not and should never be considered governing bodies, just instruments for elections, and a coalition can support the right independent candidate (West) quite effectively. Justice for All is only created to resolve the ballot access obstacle, not as a governing body. Donate to West! Write to Green Party supporters and Bernie supporters and others and convince them to support the West candidacy!
Thank you for doing this interview with Dr. Cornel West. Can't wait for him to get the big rallies started. That will begin an avalanche of support from sea to shining sea. Then not even the corporate owned networks will be able to ignore the inevitable.
Dr. West's explanation of the evolution of his candidacy is cogent and makes perfect sense. I have supported his run from its inception and am even more optimistic about his campaign than ever.
@@Jennifer-fg2bd Cornel West threw away all that ballot access because of his ego. Jill Stein did not want to replace him. She just didn't want to see the ballot access go to waste . I'm voting for the one that has the best chance of winning.
@@theresagosnell7645 I agree. De la Cruz is my favorite of the three, but I’ll be voting for Greens since they have the best chance. If they’d put their egos aside, they’d work together to push for the greater good. We need all the votes we can get and dividing the left is not helping anything get better. We’re out of time. We can’t waste several more elections trying to build parties from limited resources & time. It’s insane to me.
@@Jennifer-fg2bd that's exactly right.I would love to vote for a Socialist. But Jill Stein has good policies also. We've got to improve and go forward.
This is where I'm at also. Doesn't make sense to have both Cornel and Jill Stein splitting the left third party vote. Since Cornel is unlikely to have much ballot access, I really hope he teams up as VP for Stein. This election is a golden opportunity for third parties. I think the Greens could hit 5% with Cornel and Stein running together. The alternative is Cornel being on like, three ballots, so everyone else is forced to vote for Stein or write him in. Makes way more sense to consolidate and run as a team, since they share the same policies and values.
He's got my anarchist vote. Whatever that means. If Cornell West could become President of the U.S. I would feel totally vindicated for being an optimist, because right now I feel kind of like an asshole for that.
He can’t win in this county. Unfortunately. I’m not saying you shouldn’t vote for him tho. Let your voice be heard. I maybe vote for Jill Stein and the Green Party. Help them get the 5% matching funds. She can’t win either.
I won't say it's inevitable but I think Jill Stein actually has some chance to win. The Dems and Republicans each usually have a little more than a quarter of the vote. And Independents are usually about half of the eligible voters. The Gallup poll says that a majority want a new party. If things stay the same or get worse, more people may peel off from the Democratic and Republican parties. If/when it looks like Biden will lose, we can appeal to SOME Democrats to go Green as a way to stop Trump! Again, not saying that this is inevitable, but it is possible. Then we would have to deal with the Electoral College. But there is a thing called NPVIC. Please search it.
Cornel had my support until he threw away his ballot access in California with the Greens and now attempting to kick Claudia off the Peace & Freedom party ballot line. Talk about lacking integrity... Don't ever call her "sister Claudia" after that shitty move alone...
"When they came, we discovered that we were naked, we lived in America and we were Indians. They told us to believe in God, take the cross in our hands, close our eyes and pray. When we opened our eyes they had, already, dispossessed us from every thing it was dear to us."
This election would have been the year a progressive third party did the best possibly ever, but not anymore if Cornell, Stein, and Claudia are splitting the vote.
Did he say that he never expected Jill Stein to become the Green Party candidate when he left? If that’s what he said, I’d like to know what he DID expect. When he left the Green Party, he left a vacuum that somebody was certain to fill, because they had to have a candidate. If it wasn’t going to be him, who’d he think it’d be? He’s my candidate, and he has my vote; but this is a stumble from which he could recover. Perhaps he’d ask Jill to be his running mate, or vice versa.
Exactly. The "void" in the Green Party had to be at least momentarily filled by Stein, and now she (and Bernie) should bring their supporters behind the non-partisan issues-based movement led by West.
Sounded more to me that he’s afraid of democracy. He stated the greens had too many events, too many debates w/the various candidates and then mentioned Stein getting in as if it would affect his chances of winning the nomination. She didn’t announce until after he left. It sounded to me as if he didn’t want the trouble of running in a primary. I like West, but it sounds like he has an ego problem. If he really wanted to help these policies reach the US citizens, he would have stayed in that party and done the work it takes to become the nominee. Running a separate campaign definitely won’t help those policies reach Americans, especially when he won’t be on enough ballots to even win. Same with De la Cruz, who is probably my favorite of the three . We need all these left leaders to put aside their egos and to work together and stop dividing the left over tiny differences. Stein, De la Cruz, West all want similar policies. Sure there can be significant differences, but we aren’t talking the lesser of evils here.
Dr. West must discuss the issues we or concern about like the economy, health care, homelessness, and high crime, high taxes, racism, poverty, we need change in government finances, privatization of public sector.
It's not so much a third party as a coalition of non-duopoly forces. Let's not make a duopoly into a triopoly! Bernie, Green Party, Independents and Libertarians, Justice for All, all should coalesce into a non-partisan, ISSUES based (platform based) movement, with West at the head, but not any particular party in power. Parties are not governing bodies, just vehicles for bringing candidates and their platforms forward, and they can form coalitions.
@@ignacioduran5993 "Parties are not governing bodies..." This is the problem with the Green Party. It is good that they broke away; but they are still entrapped in status quo type behavior.
Now that Marianne Williamson has suspended her campaign😢, how about Cornel for President, with Jill Stein as VP and appoint Marianne as the head of the Dept for Peace. Unlikely but would be a dream team.
I had no idea he was running for President and that in itself makes me very upset. We should be able to hear and see every person that is running for President. I really like some things I have heard i just want peace in the world. I know I have no control over that but I do feel America Government tries to dictate of her Countries to much. I would not like being pushed into America policies if I ran a Country.
One of the greatest issues we have is the inability to ever make substantial change. A president only gets 4 years. You can’t do anything during that time. There can be no “agenda” except securing one’s political future, because things that need to be done takes more than 4 and 8 years. It often takes 10-20 years for seeds of changes to begin to grow, and by that time, the gardener who had plans for them is already gone, so a new one chops them out because they already have their own plan and it’s not part of it.
Me personally I don’t think $27 an hour is enough to make a budget even for a family. I think it should be higher even if a person has a disability that’s just my personal opinion and people on disability should get to keep it.
Dr. West and Jill Stein and few others candidates on the left should find a way to come together. It does not make sense so split that vote, they might make 15 percent or more, as it is 3 or 5 percent, does not give them much leverage.
3:30 The one state vs two state dichotomy is false. Independence and liberation are not the same things. To achieve liberation we need socialist revolution. Socialism cannot survive in isolation. We need a federation of socialist republics in the Levant & throughout the entire region to achieve liberation.
Cornel West 2024 30:15 ‘bear witness’ is a great slogan Love how he mentioned Wynton Marsalis who is a very active advocate for real justice and democracy with his music.
i resonate with the worldview that he expresses. His ideas provide a positive direction for the U.S. and the rest of the world to move towards. He brings optimism to an otherwise gloomy expectation for our future. Thank you for giving us a viable choice in the upcoming elections.
Quit providing weaponry and denying food/water /health/shelter provide reparations fund prosperity of nations over distruction. You'll be amazed how quickly and easily miracles flow..
Also...Suspending a Campaign Law and Legal Definition "Candidates seeking the Democratic or Republican nomination can suspend their campaign, if they want to keep open the option of reviving it at a later date or play the role of power-broker at the party convention."
I want a 3rd party to get 5% of the vote so they can get federal funding next time around. West and Stein should be on the same ticket. The Green Party will be on more state ballots than Dr. West's new party, so for pragmatic reasons I favor it. Neither West nor Stein have the slightest chance of winning. What matters is the future. We need one leftist party, not two.
I love brother West, but what I hear sometimes is a stretching of his focus on identity politics. I'm not speaking about him as a black man supporting African American interests. Just like every group does. His push on reperations is appropriate and has never been addressed when it comes to Americas original sin! I support Dr. West and love it when he talks black, in other words, when he shows the courage to put black peoples needs on an equal plane with everyone else. But the feminists and lgbtq folks have had plenty of support and in many ways have co-opted the narrative so much that there has been a clown world effect and a delusion about what is truth and what constitutes so.e kind of social agenda pushed by who knows! People are tired, and the pendulum is swinging . I just don't like his message of love and fairness to be confused with our support of these other peoples agenda.
He's got a lot of good things to say. He needs to take charge of his appearance though because there are many people who would not vote for anybody that looked like that.
Thnx Jordan for asking that question re to combine left candidates. what WE the PEOPLE want. Elecctoral college is the sh*t, would need miraculous landlide to win popular so combining would give strong illusion of that possibility.
I’m a huge fan of Corny the philosopher, truth teller and public speaker… but let’s be honest, candidate Cornell West has been an unmitigated disaster. Not that he ever had a chance of winning, but sadly I think this takes away some of his credibility.

I am voting for Jill Stein. Screw this flip flopper.
He really thought they'd just give up and not have a candidate lol
He has my vote too but that's quite a reasonable question.

Please Dr. Cornel West come to Virginia and speak so you can get more of the mission out there amongst the people
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. The only choice in 2024. This is the year a 3rd party takes the duopoly out.
❤❤👏👏 one-state solution is the way
Forcing victims to live with their abusers? This is where i disagree with Dr West.
Now that Marianne Williamson has suspended her campaign😢, how about Cornel for President, with Jill Stein as VP and appoint Marianne as the head of the Dept for Peace. Unlikely but would be a dream team.
Most embassies open and operating normally
You got my vote! I don't care what party you claim! Love you Cornell!
To bad Cornell dodged Jordan's question on the Isreali lobby at about 13:00
I had no idea he was running for President and that in itself makes me very upset. We should be able to hear and see every person that is running for President. I really like some things I have heard i just want peace in the world. I know I have no control over that but I do feel America Government tries to dictate of her Countries to much. I would not like being pushed into America policies if I ran a Country.

Great interview Jordan. Really dig your show. 👍
Thanks! -Jordan
Human rights advocates say the destruction in Gaza amounts to “domicide,” or the widespread or systematic destruction of homes.
YES!
GO WEST IN 2024!
West is the best! West & Sawant is who we want!
Who is involved in this party? More establishment politicians.
Prophetic vs political I would argue… in fact civilian vs political I would say is most accurate. Thank you Cornel.
Me personally I don’t think $27 an hour is enough to make a budget even for a family. I think it should be higher even if a person has a disability that’s just my personal opinion and people on disability should get to keep it.
We got from New York to California on an empty tank 🚗⛽️🤣🤣
Dr. West and Jill Stein and few others candidates on the left should find a way to come together. It does not make sense so split that vote, they might make 15 percent or more, as it is 3 or 5 percent, does not give them much leverage.
Cornels 2024🎉🎉🎉
3:30 The one state vs two state dichotomy is false. Independence and liberation are not the same things. To achieve liberation we need socialist revolution. Socialism cannot survive in isolation. We need a federation of socialist republics in the Levant & throughout the entire region to achieve liberation.

30:15 ‘bear witness’ is a great slogan
Love how he mentioned Wynton Marsalis who is a very active advocate for real justice and democracy with his music.
Most embassies open and operating normally. Where is Iran Turkey Egypt China Russia and the rest of the gkobal south xit
love your flag 🥳
Cornell has my vote too!! Will he be on the NH ballot?
i resonate with the worldview that he expresses.

Doesn't come across as serious, so back to looking for someone to vote for. Disappointed, but better to know.

Also...Suspending a Campaign Law and Legal Definition
"Candidates seeking the Democratic or Republican nomination can suspend their campaign, if they want to keep open the option of reviving it at a later date or play the role of power-broker at the party convention."
You gotta love Doctor West.
This one is running to be the next black emperor
Explain
Mistake. I am voting for Dr
West
I had another black politician in mind.
We need one leftist party, not two.
coalition
Still want to know is stance on the immigrants flooding our country?

😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢.
He's got a lot of good things to say. He needs to take charge of his appearance though because there are many people who would not vote for anybody that looked like that.
16:50. Dr West has ballot access in California Via “peace & freedom party, just got my ballot and Cornel West on there
Thnx Jordan for asking that question re to combine left candidates. what WE the PEOPLE want. Elecctoral college is the sh*t, would need miraculous landlide to win popular so combining would give strong illusion of that possibility.
Intelligence, morality and integrity. West has them all. And he has my vote.
Dr. West is the best choice.
Very exciting
I’m a huge fan of Corny the philosopher, truth teller and public speaker… but let’s be honest, candidate Cornell West has been an unmitigated disaster. Not that he ever had a chance of winning, but sadly I think this takes away some of his credibility.
Love it
