I come from a martial arts background... taekwondo, hapkido, then Jeet kune do concepts. Lots of sparring and throwing. Then I was diagnosed with lymphoma at the beginning of 2014. I couldn't train anymore but found these exercises. Everyday at noon, I'd eat whatever I cod keep down, then stood at my desk and did these exercises. It really helped with the nausea from chemo and helped me out with stress.

I started doing Tai Chi Chih in NC when my oldest son had me go with him to a class at the gym I was a member of. I LOVED it. I have had knee surgery and have neck issues due to a wreck I was in. Tai Chi Chih always made me so relaxed and peaceful. We've since moved from NC and no one around our new home teaches Tai Chi...I'm so glad this is posted so I can hook up my comp to the tv and do it. Thank you so much!

I started doing Tai Chi Chih ~ Joy Through Movement approximately 20 years ago after having Cancer & looking for the right exercise at that time for me. I was so delighted I found this. The program brought peace of mind & needed circulatory movements. I practiced while waiting in the doctor's office, also in front of the TV, etc daily. It was perfect for me to use. I have been free of the "C" & thankful for the Justin Stone's original DVD & workbook that brought me through the training successfully.

Mr. X, As someone who practices Yang Style 108, Taiji Ruler, and T'ai Chi Chih I would like to offer another perspective. Most forms are born from other forms, just as children are born from their parents. Children may have similarities to their parents yet they are a new form, unique in both subtle and obvious ways. We understand when parents say the children are "theirs" that the children also belong to the entire human species and have common ancestors with all of us.
Just as T'ai Chi Chih can trace its principles and some of its movements to earlier Taiji forms, Yang style is related to Chen, to Qigong, to Daoyin, and perhaps other forms which predate written Chinese history. When we embody Taiji, we come to understand the practice is not only cultivating and balancing Qi for strength and defensive purposes, but that this Qi can be stored to be used for restoring and maintaining optimal health. The adept practitioner begins to play with Inner Alchemy and can learn to transform Jing to Qi to Shen, and also reverse these processes with greater and greater ease. Further exploration brings abiliites to send this energy to others for their use. This is true spiritual evolution. The practitioner can use one or a combination of forms to facilitate this evolution. All good.
Also, although the chih appears the same in the Romanized translation, the Chinese character for the "chih" of the Taiji ruler is different from the "chih" in T'ai Chi Chih. The former is ruler, the latter is wisdom or knowledge. Therefore, the two forms have distinctly different names.
Finally, The Dao offers us wisdom when we become concerned with how others choose to find their way:32 The Tao can't be perceived.
    Smaller than an electron,
    it contains uncountable galaxies.
    If powerful men and women
could remain centered in the Tao,
all things would be in harmony.
The world would become a paradise.
All people would be at peace,
and the law would be written in their hearts.
When you have names and forms,
    know that they are provisional.
    When you have institutions,
know where their functions should end.
    Knowing when to stop,
    you can avoid any danger.
All things end in the Tao
as rivers flow into the sea.

This is a misapplication of esoteric knowledge. This form has no basics in it, it's completely empty (and no, not in the good way), and will not produce fruition. Doing the movements with structure, awareness of biomechanics, and understanding of TCM theory will give you consistent healing/results, whereas this may produce it but it may not.

z k lol It seems like you have no experience with this simplified version. Your just talking nonsenses. Everyone has experienced results. Morons keep talking nonsense.

    • @JoyfulFunsWay
      @JoyfulFunsWay 6 років тому +4

The beauty of T’ai Chi Chih is that it is neither esoteric nor elitist. The practitioner can simply use the basic principles of Classical Chinese Medicine to guide his/her practice or choose to additionally explore the deep wisdom CCM offers. Either way, the practitioner can reap immense benefits.
Sincere, persistent practice of any Taiji form brings transformation: improved health, balance, strength, compassion, humility, clarity, flexibility, and an ability to see things as more than one limiting absolute. The Dao speaks of strength through softness, and Taiji transforms the individual through this principle not only physically, but also mentally. Being unnecessarily fearful and overly reactive can certainly be limiting, as can having the tendency to feel we need to be right.
Form by its very nature is limiting. Overly attaching ourselves to one form, whether it be a person place, or thing may obstruct our ability to expand our consciousness. Likewise, making a judgment as to which Taiji form is absolutely the best for anyone other than oneself would surely seem to circumvent the purpose and spirit of Taiji.

  • @JoyfulFunsWay
    @JoyfulFunsWay 5 років тому +3

    Mr. Wong,
T’ai Chi Chih is a modern Qigong form. Whether you think of it as Taiji/ T’ai Chi depends on how you choose to define Taiji. If you see Taiji as merely movement exercises with a focus on how these movements look or solely as a defensive discipline, then T’ai Chi Chih might not appear to fit the same parameters of Taiji as the Chen, Yang, and Wu styles of Taiji.
If however you have a sense of how most respected Masters see Taiji - as an internal art, then you might recognize that T’ai Chi Chih also has a focus on the inner energetic body and on cultivating energy through a yin-yang, substantial-insubstantial weight shift. This along with mindfully moving from the lower dantian along with the bending and opening of the major and minor kuas (joints) adds to the efficiency of cultivating and storing Qi.
The radicals for the character Taiji translate as supreme ultimate or supreme polarity. The T’ai Chi Chih practice is navigating this taiji spectrum between the complementary poles of yin and yang. Sincere practice brings more efficiency with this navigation, and the practitioner becomes more adept at cultivating and storing energy. The focus that T’ai Chi Chih has on this polarity points to it being a Taiji form. While the movements are different from the traditional forms, the principles of how to move are the same, and regarding the energy cultivated, the Daodejing says:
    6
The Dao is called the Great Mother
    Empty yet inexhaustible,
It gives birth to infinite worlds. It is always present within you.
You can use it any way you want.
And finally, the journey of the Taiji practitioner mirrors the life journey of the individual. The beginner may see Taiji as only a physical practice (jing consciousness) which is fine. However, a expanded awareness brings one to a deeper understanding of both the physical realm and something more - the connection to others when we practice (Qi Consciousness). The Grandmasters speak of the deepest spiritual (Shen consciousness) of the practice, an awareness of both the internal and external as one integrated whole. The Dao speaks of the countless galaxies within. This is the journey which awaits the open-hearted, sincere Taiji practitioner.
Letting go of the need to judge others and their choice of practice and instead focusing on our own journey is our personal ticket to the amazing ride within.

Suggestions: Toes pointing to the 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock position prevents the feet from working as intended for balance; poor foot postures can lead to knee and hip problems. Also, extending the knees past the toes can also cause knee problems; the reason the practitioner allows this mistake is because the hip joint (kwa) is too tight and not being directed by the dan tien. When back weighted, her front knee is allowed to rotate medially and is no longer aligned with the front foot; this happens because the floor of the pelvis is tight and the energy gates of the hip are locked. An astute teacher would have corrected these errors to prevent injuries in the student. Poor physical alignment blocks the flow of chi and "feeling the chi" arises from imaginary sources.

      FYI:
      Spring T’ai Chi Chih Retreat
      with Carmen Brocklehurst
      April 9-12, 2015
Justin Stone said “If we examine it closely, we find that awareness is the root of T’ai Chi Chih”.
Spend a few days practicing the movements and discovering that awareness in our T’ai Chi Chih practice. mas bien le llamaria chi KUng o Qi Gong no tiene nada de Tai Chi Chuan o Tai Chi mal llamado. Trabaja no bien saca la rodillas hcia afuera ,incorrecto, no se trata de mover la manos suavemente , no se entiende lo que hace si es Tai Chi Chuan o movientos apartados no estan bien.
