Agree 100% with Francine! Just think about it: which is uglier? The outside of your home or that huge mortgage you would have in a sparklingly beautiful palace? E-Z!!! That mortgage is WAAAAY uglier. So, it seems that y'all are okay with living there as you settle in to the new place and make everything YOUR homestead; thus, just press forward, leaning upon God's divine wisdom as you do so, and realize that the reward for your wise actions will far outweigh some "ugly factor."

In this day and age, avoiding debt is SMART!! It also helps that your home is practically new on the inside AND you have a solidly built leak proof roof. What a blessing! New to your channel... I support your reasons and explanations. The journey of living within your means, making improvement, but being content in the process is a most valuable life lesson. We raised and homeschooled 9 children in a very dilapidated farm house. We worked on it as we had time and $, but enjoyed living in the process. It took us 25 years to reasonably call the home complete. Our renovations had no master plan, we just lived. Needing to expand the space for the growing family, we chose to add 2 bedrooms. When we completed the addition our living space had multiplied! We started with 1800 SF and finished with 4600 SF. We tore down about 25% of the house we purchased, rebuilding that portion larger in the house expansion project. The 2 bedroom addition vision morphed into 5 additional bedrooms, enormous living room and kitchen space and allowed us to repurpose the original house portion. We also gained workshop space in the additional basement. In the early part of the journey we labored under excessive debt, but freeing from the debt and in that process, we did the additions and renovations with cash. When we started, we had the soriest home in the rural neighborhood. When completed, it had turned into the grandest home in the area. We never intended to live in such luxury that we enjoy today. Our plan was to invest in our children and guide them to love Jesus Christ. Our home was ugly for 25 years, no siding, many unfinished rooms, no porches, but contentment marked our happy home. Two old people don't need our big home now, but hospitality is our vision and entertaining guests is part of our daily life. The big home comfortably accommodates our growing brood. 34 grandchildren (currently expecting 2 more!) are in and out of home on a weekly basis. We can seat 50 folk in the dining room, meaning this past Christmas was our first family meal that mandated a table in another room (that was a sad day for Grandmother, who likes the family around "one table".) Folk that is meet us now assume that we have enjoyed affluence for a very long time, but our comfort is less than a decade. There is great ease when it is all finished, but the years of want and struggle were very happy years. We shared a common goal and purpose, and embraced contentment along the journey. My mind can remember the years of struggle with clarity, but my emotions cannot. While we enjoy our current ease, I trust that contentment would reign if we lost it all. I feel that God has generously blessed us with abundant stuff and comfort, because we didn't demand it. Our purpose was to love and to serve Him, to do that during the journey and to do it now when it is easy to offer hospitality. Last year my wife supported me building my dream workshop. This building is larger than our home and I am pretty certain that its cost rivaled what we spent to do the house. An old man can never justify this outrageous expenditure for hobby pleasure, but my justification is augmented by having the men and boys in my brood working alongside me building relationship and exploring new skills. The majority of my family joins us weekly for supper and Bible study. Filling up our "big room" with my family and wrestling with and exploring God's Holy Word together is the highlight of our week. I retired young when my coworkers couldn't conceive of retiring. Most of them were 2 income homes. We lived on only 1 income. It was a struggle to dig out of debt around age 50, but living debt free is such a blessing. It also enhances the ability to develop the gift of generosity. I applaud your efforts. I love easy TN. I was saved and met my wife on Lookout Mountain outside of Chattanooga. God bless your endeavors.

I totally understand the paid for option, our 1972 double wide is also paid for and we pay little prop tax each year. I love watching the builds and learning something new and getting to know Sam, Angela and the boys which each share.
I own a 1987 and we’re in the process of remodeling everything. We bought ours for $4,000! If feels SO GOOD not to have rent or a house note. We are about to pull out the central air and install mini splits. We are 2 yrs from buying land. We don’t want a large note so we plan on paying down 80% when we find what we like. My parents are even selling their paid off brick home and buying a mobile home! I grew up in that 5 bedroom 2 bathroom home. Taxes and insurance are HIGH for that home. My taxes are $62.95 a year. House insurance is $74.
@@Laswm4950 My taxes ($114 in the begining now-$170 )did go a little higher after me putting new windows- and roof and glass door on it- the outside improvements- even caught attention of the seniors in the vans- house looking completely different - new steps,etc. LOL
@@lovenotes5299 Thanks for the heads up! I didn’t think about my taxes going up because of upgrades lol. We just added two new double pain windows and about to install two 24,000 btu mini splits. I like it cold because I cook meals to last a week and freeze meals too. We just finished buying all new stainless steel fridge, stove, dishwasher, and vent hood. I had to take all my kitchen cabinets down and reinstall them to fit stuff in lol. My husband came home and it was done. I was so proud of myself and hurting for 4 days lol 😂! All he had to do was double check that I screwed everything into studs correctly. It was kind of neat to see the original ugly flooring under the old fridge lol.
@@Laswm4950 You did fantastic! I paid some guys to put in all new windows in the front and most of the back ones. I changed the roof line when i got the new chocolate roof. I did change the washer/dryer/stove, fridge- homedepot- bundled them for me and gave me discounts of $300 - i did my moms mobile home first. LOL- painted the outside of hers- painted her roof. Her taxes went up also
You had me convinced at $2K -- there is tremendous value in your home and all the improvements that went into it to make it better. Would be hard to beat that value at any price point. Nice to see folks making sensible decisions to provide their family with a good safe comfortable home.
It makes total sense that you would have moved the mobile home. You put so much work into it and high-quality work at that. If you had purchased a used one you wouldn't know if they had been as meticulous as yall were in repairs. I am sad that you have left NC, but so glad you found a place that will suit your lives so much better when all is said and done. I remember a line from a movie called "the money pit" where Tom Hanks walks into his unrestored home and says "ah home crap home". Sam/Angela it will all be worth it when it's all done. Best part is that you are doing it out of pocket and not borrowing the money for it. If for no other reason that will make it all worth the effort.
I did not even know Palm Harbor made single wides back then! I had a 2007 Palm Harbor 32x72 double wide in a senior park that I sold in 2015 here in Fl...I sure loved that home! Palm harbor builds a great home as I'm sure you know! I am a huge Dave Ramsey fan so living debt free is always smart and that home is NOT at all ugly!!
I am really glad you didn't listen to other people, and did what was best for your family. There is nothing like having a lot of debt hanging over head. In my late sixty's, and during the housing bubble I lost my high mortgage home. I found a 600 square foot home for 1,500.00, and it needed a lot of work. People thought I was crazy, but I had lost my job, home. Today at 75 I am debt free, and I wish I had known all this when I was younger. I applaud your wisdom, and God bless your family.
We always get comments like that too; about why not just tear down and buy or build a new home, and a lot of people don't realize how much more expensive it is to do that. It made total sense in many ways for you guys to move the single wide. Yay for no state income tax...FL doesn't have that either, and our sales tax is about 7%.
VERY enlightening! Now I finally understand why your single-wide seems so big. We have a 1990 House of Merit doublewide and it is 53 feet long. I did not realize yours is 70 feet long, and that's why it seems so big. Everything you said makes such good sense, especially about being debt free. We bought ours "as is" and had to keep reminding ourselves that every day as new discoveries popped up. Eight years later we really love it, and I can hardly wait to see how wonderful yours is going to be. Thanks for sharing.

Sam, I think you and Angela did the right thing by having your mobile home moved from Nc to Tn. You two have done so much work on your home and you did a great job on it. Why waste money tryin to buy another home or build a home, when the home you already have is bought and paid for and you can remodel it any way you want. My mom sold me her double wide and 10 acres of land with a 24x50 steel building for 40,000. She then bought a new mobile home in 1993 and placed it on the this property also. She lived in it until she passed away and I inherited it. I then gave it to my son. Its in very nice shape with a 14' covered porch on the front. From the sounds of these prices maybe I should have sold it to my son instead of giving it to him. lol
My daughter and son in law just purchased land and a double wide 3 years ago. The guy doing the septic told them that, if it were him he would definitely not go with pumping the septic uphill because the pumps are constantly breaking, lines are always clogging up, and it's a big headache dealing with them! He advised them to move the site of the septic instead. Just something to think about and please talk to several companies that install septic systems that way you know what you're getting into.
You could only hope to get an honest company to do the work like in your daughters case. Most contractors are only looking to make the most they can and then not disclose the maintenance costs which will probably be just more money in their pockets. I so hate having to get work done, I am a witness to how they'll take you to the cleaners if you're not careful.
In our state a soil test and septic design is done by a septic/plumbing engineer, not the contractor. Contractors install according to the design and specifications. You can't just put a septic anywhere on the property. The soil has to have adequate drainage, etc.
I have lived in a couple of houses with a septic with pumps - let me tell you the bell does not go off when the pump does not work - all the stuff the septic holds runs all over the ground - so not only do you have to get the pump fixed you have to clean us a nasty mess - needs replacing around every 5-7 years - as everytime you run something down a sink or the toilet the pump turns on
When I watched them move that house off the hill, I was in awe and they were very good at what they were doing.. I'm excited to see where you are going next...
It's hard to find channels that shows someone actually working on a mobile home. there's some that show before and after videos but rarely show the hands on work. Your channel is a blessing to us mobile home owners that want to do our own work. Plus for me you're just good ole down home folks like myself, lol.
PLEASE never say your home is ugly! Any home that is as loving as yours is not ugly. It is OK to live within your means and not go into so much debt you can never see daylight again. You all are doing it right and we are excited to watch your journey!!!

We moved our single wide mobile home about 4 years ago. It was across town in the same county (also in WNC) not even a mile away. We paid $12,000. We did all our own plumbing and electrical. Then we had the county inspector to come and approve our work. I was pregnant at the time. I vividly remember working outside in the snow with temps in the single digits building the front and back porch back to code. We had to wait the longest on the power company to wire us a new line and hook up. We lived in a hotel for 2 weeks with 2 toddlers. Oi.....good times. But we own our home, with no mortgage/rent and that pay off is so worth it. I'm so happy your family had that same kind of opportunity.
You are very sensible people not getting into debt. Most people want everything now. But getting into debt is foolish. Keep life simple is aways the best way. Well done.
You both did the absolute right thing to keep your home!! The time and money you’ve put in to your home is absolutely PRICELESS! I bought a mobile home about 9 years ago for $18,000! (Cash) I’ve renovated the entire thing over that time. With the current prices, you couldn’t pry me out. I live in rural Maine. My only regret is that I currently have it in a park. Because the location is very rural…. I have a huge lot and wonderful neighbors. I can guarantee you, if I were to buy land, my mobile home is coming with me!! Haha 😂 God bless you and your family. Good for you guys, my house will be paid for in about 2 years, I have no credit card debt and only one car payment,,,I did the same as you guys when I started,,living beyond my means from paycheck to paycheck,,,cars, boat, camper, house, credit card debt,,,,not sleeping at night for worry,,,,oh what a relief to lay down at night and rest easy with no worrying. It took work and sacrifice but that peace of mind is worth more than anything. Keep up the good work and bless your testimony to others.

I paid $2,500 for my 1977 single wide 80 ft long - 3 bedroom /2 bathroom and i'm still remodeling,little by little as funds will allow while staying debt free. You can always paint the outside and make it beautiful
I completely understand keeping your home. I live in Utah and bought a double wide for $43,000 on park land. Ours was also a rental, and are working on improving it. We found so many problems. But with the squeeze of rent and not many options we did what we could.

You are being very smart in keeping debt free. And your home is not ugly. It is still a work in progress and you get to decorate and fix it up as you like. There are more important things to spend money on. Keep up the good work. I am going to look st the video about replacing the exterior door in my manufactured home. I am 72 and do as much as I can myself. I get to live next door to my grand kids, but my house is also a work in progress.

I totally understand the paid for option, our 1972 double wide is also paid for and we pay little prop tax each year. I love watching the builds and learning something new and getting to know Sam, Angela and the boys which each share.

I own a 1987 and we’re in the process of remodeling everything. We bought ours for $4,000! If feels SO GOOD not to have rent or a house note. We are about to pull out the central air and install mini splits. We are 2 yrs from buying land. We don’t want a large note so we plan on paying down 80% when we find what we like. My parents are even selling their paid off brick home and buying a mobile home! I grew up in that 5 bedroom 2 bathroom home. Taxes and insurance are HIGH for that home. My taxes are $62.95 a year. House insurance is $74.
@@Laswm4950 My taxes ($114 in the begining now-$170 )did go a little higher after me putting new windows- and roof and glass door on it- the outside improvements- even caught attention of the seniors in the vans- house looking completely different - new steps,etc. LOL
@@lovenotes5299 Thanks for the heads up! I didn’t think about my taxes going up because of upgrades lol. We just added two new double pain windows and about to install two 24,000 btu mini splits. I like it cold because I cook meals to last a week and freeze meals too. We just finished buying all new stainless steel fridge, stove, dishwasher, and vent hood. I had to take all my kitchen cabinets down and reinstall them to fit stuff in lol. My husband came home and it was done. I was so proud of myself and hurting for 4 days lol 😂! All he had to do was double check that I screwed everything into studs correctly. It was kind of neat to see the original ugly flooring under the old fridge lol.
@@Laswm4950 You did fantastic! I paid some guys to put in all new windows in the front and most of the back ones. I changed the roof line when i got the new chocolate roof. I did change the washer/dryer/stove, fridge- homedepot- bundled them for me and gave me discounts of $300 - i did my moms mobile home first. LOL- painted the outside of hers- painted her roof. Her taxes went up also
You had me convinced at $2K -- there is tremendous value in your home and all the improvements that went into it to make it better. Would be hard to beat that value at any price point. Nice to see folks making sensible decisions to provide their family with a good safe comfortable home.
It makes total sense that you would have moved the mobile home. You put so much work into it and high-quality work at that. If you had purchased a used one you wouldn't know if they had been as meticulous as yall were in repairs. I am sad that you have left NC, but so glad you found a place that will suit your lives so much better when all is said and done. I seriously can not wait to see what you all do next on the homestead.🥰

I remember a line from a movie called "the money pit" where Tom Hanks walks into his unrestored home and says "ah home crap home". Sam/Angela it will all be worth it when it's all done. Best part is that you are doing it out of pocket and not borrowing the money for it. If for no other reason that will make it all worth the effort.

I did not even know Palm Harbor made single wides back then! I had a 2007 Palm Harbor 32x72 double wide in a senior park that I sold in 2015 here in Fl...I sure loved that home! Palm harbor builds a great home as I'm sure you know! I am a huge Dave Ramsey fan so living debt free is always smart and that home is NOT at all ugly!!
I am really glad you didn't listen to other people, and did what was best for your family. There is nothing like having a lot of debt hanging over head. In my late sixty's, and during the housing bubble I lost my high mortgage home. I found a 600 square foot home for 1,500.00, and it needed a lot of work. People thought I was crazy, but I had lost my job, home. Today at 75 I am debt free, and I wish I had known all this when I was younger. I applaud your wisdom, and God bless your family.
We always get comments like that too; about why not just tear down and buy or build a new home, and a lot of people don't realize how much more expensive it is to do that. It made total sense in many ways for you guys to move the single wide. Yay for no state income tax...FL doesn't have that either, and our sales tax is about 7%.
VERY enlightening! Now I finally understand why your single-wide seems so big. We have a 1990 House of Merit doublewide and it is 53 feet long. I did not realize yours is 70 feet long, and that's why it seems so big. Everything you said makes such good sense, especially about being debt free. We bought ours "as is" and had to keep reminding ourselves that every day as new discoveries popped up. Eight years later we really love it, and I can hardly wait to see how wonderful yours is going to be. Thanks for sharing.

Sam, I think you and Angela did the right thing by having your mobile home moved from Nc to Tn. You two have done so much work on your home and you did a great job on it. Why waste money tryin to buy another home or build a home, when the home you already have is bought and paid for and you can remodel it any way you want. My mom sold me her double wide and 10 acres of land with a 24x50 steel building for 40,000. She then bought a new mobile home in 1993 and placed it on the this property also. She lived in it until she passed away and I inherited it. I then gave it to my son. Its in very nice shape with a 14' covered porch on the front. From the sounds of these prices maybe I should have sold it to my son instead of giving it to him. lol
My daughter and son in law just purchased land and a double wide 3 years ago. The guy doing the septic told them that, if it were him he would definitely not go with pumping the septic uphill because the pumps are constantly breaking, lines are always clogging up, and it's a big headache dealing with them! He advised them to move the site of the septic instead. Just something to think about and please talk to several companies that install septic systems that way you know what you're getting into.
You could only hope to get an honest company to do the work like in your daughters case. Most contractors are only looking to make the most they can and then not disclose the maintenance costs which will probably be just more money in their pockets. I so hate having to get work done, I am a witness to how they'll take you to the cleaners if you're not careful.
In our state a soil test and septic design is done by a septic/plumbing engineer, not the contractor. Contractors install according to the design and specifications. You can't just put a septic anywhere on the property. The soil has to have adequate drainage, etc.
I have lived in a couple of houses with a septic with pumps - let me tell you the bell does not go off when the pump does not work - all the stuff the septic holds runs all over the ground - so not only do you have to get the pump fixed you have to clean us a nasty mess - needs replacing around every 5-7 years - as everytime you run something down a sink or the toilet the pump turns on

It's hard to find channels that shows someone actually working on a mobile home. there's some that show before and after videos but rarely show the hands on work. Your channel is a blessing to us mobile home owners that want to do our own work. Plus for me you're just good ole down home folks like myself, lol.
PLEASE never say your home is ugly! Any home that is as loving as yours is not ugly. It is OK to live within your means and not go into so much debt you can never see daylight again. You all are doing it right and we are excited to watch your journey!!!

We moved our single wide mobile home about 4 years ago. It was across town in the same county (also in WNC) not even a mile away. We paid $12,000. We did all our own plumbing and electrical. Then we had the county inspector to come and approve our work. I was pregnant at the time. I vividly remember working outside in the snow with temps in the single digits building the front and back porch back to code. We had to wait the longest on the power company to wire us a new line and hook up. We lived in a hotel for 2 weeks with 2 toddlers. Oi.....good times. But we own our home, with no mortgage/rent and that pay off is so worth it. I'm so happy your family had that same kind of opportunity.

You both did the absolute right thing to keep your home!! The time and money you’ve put in to your home is absolutely PRICELESS! I bought a mobile home about 9 years ago for $18,000! (Cash) I’ve renovated the entire thing over that time. With the current prices, you couldn’t pry me out.
I live in rural Maine. My only regret is that I currently have it in a park. Because the location is very rural…. I have a huge lot and wonderful neighbors. I can guarantee you, if I were to buy land, my mobile home is coming with me!! Haha 😂

Good for you guys, my house will be paid for in about 2 years, I have no credit card debt and only one car payment,,,I did the same as you guys when I started,,living beyond my means from paycheck to paycheck,,,cars, boat, camper, house, credit card debt,,,,not sleeping at night for worry,,,,oh what a relief to lay down at night and rest easy with no worrying. It took work and sacrifice but that peace of mind is worth more than anything. Keep up the good work and bless your testimony to others.

I paid $2,500 for my 1977 single wide 80 ft long - 3 bedroom /2 bathroom and i'm still remodeling,little by little as funds will allow while staying debt free. You can always paint the outside and make it beautiful

I completely understand keeping your home. I live in Utah and bought a double wide for $43,000 on park land. Ours was also a rental, and are working on improving it. We found so many problems. But with the squeeze of rent and not many options we did what we could.

Even give yourselves a bigger 'great' room as and when you want to. Don't let anyone tell you anything different. Do your own thing. I think I have told you earlier that I believe your new land gives the boys a better chance to have a better way to grow up. After tutoring get them outside playing and get friends over too. God must have led me to your channel for a reason because I had no plans to renovate or live in a single wide back then. I will do what I can to build my forever home by harvesting lumber from my land. I will replace the trees with Chestnut trees and other nut trees. I will be debt free for once in my life! That is a pretty good deal I live in Northern New Hampshire now $16,000 and move a trailer will be between 25 and 30,000 up here
I do not think it's ugly it's a nice mobile no ever let nobody say oh that's ugly it's not all you gotta do get you some spray paint and spray and make it look good God-bless you you're doing our very good job
25 years ago, moving a mobile began at $20K in this area and didn't include milage and so much more.
You are being very smart in keeping debt free. And your home is not ugly. It is still a work in progress and you get to decorate and fix it up as you like. There are more important things to spend money on. Keep up the good work. I am going to look st the video about replacing the exterior door in my manufactured home. I am 72 and do as much as I can myself. I get to live next door to my grand kids, but my house is also a work in progress.
