Phenomenal job on this particular series guys. Having played both versions of FFXIV and being an avid MMO fan it's been a real treat. I'm excited to see what's coming next from Noclip :)
Seriously, this was amazing work guys. Thank you so much for putting out this wonderful documentary. You have touched the hearts of many fans of this game and I truly believe that. Here's to many more years of playing through the story of Eorzea and it's community.
Yoshi P is passionate about FF14 because it's essentially his baby. Who wouldn't want to see their baby grow up to be the #1 MMO on the market and the poster-child for respecting the consumer??
I was teary eyed when he recalled meeting that guy in green, at the point of the bow I'm pretty much openly crying. This level of dedication is just extraordinary, for a game that has now been such a part of my life it's just weirdly amazing to see what's behind it up close... my feels are done for the week I think
I have a level 59 white mage I'm considering booting back on just because the documentary as a whole and the YohiP bowing moment were just fantastic. I think I was halfway through Heavensward and I think I'll be up to Stormblood being on sale by the time I get there. I play stressful, competitive games online exclusively and the change of pace was appreciated back then and I think I could use a little relaxation these days. Riveting watch, this is some high quality gaming content right there. Noclip is a godsent.
Ya, it certainly made wanna check out the game despite I've never been a fan of MMO's. Unfortunately, they have no Australian servers so ping and lag would be a nightmare. Perhaps when the game develops an even larger playerbase it will be something they consider.
I joined reluctantly when quarantine started to play with a few friends joining to give us something to do together, and I’ve been playing nearly every day since. The latest expansion pack blew my mind. I can’t wait to see what this incredible, overworked team of people have in store for us next.
A game dev saying he designs his project so people don't have to play it daily is just absurd in a such a good way, he aknowledges the reality of the majority of his player base, while still being a philosophy that believes the game will be profitable regardless of the flutuation, he's not seeking profit, he's seeking quality, and manages tomake the game fun with that in mind. Yoshida is a blessing in a lot of ways :)
Seriously, this was my favourite part. One of the reasons I stopped playing WoW permanently, just after the start of BFA, was that the various mechanics they had implemented over the years to encourage people to jump in every couple of days. It stopped feeling like I was logging in to play something I enjoyed and more like I was logging in to do some chores.
Yeah, compared to other products like WoW, it feels like Yoshida and his team want to make the time you spend in the game worth it, rather than designing the game so that you keep on connecting every day to do the same thing, not even having fun, just to keep your players paying the monthly fee no matter what.
@@MoonDawg2413 Welcome then my dear sprout! :) You will find that over all the Community here in FFXIV is way more tolerant toward new people and mistakes then WOW have become over the years (Naturally you will encounter some rotten eggs those sadly can't be avoided to having sneak in!)
Please someone give Naoki Yoshida a goddamn medal for being such an amazing person, holy shit. Great documentary, guys. Quite an emotional ride, which honestly brought me to tears more than once, which is especially surprising, considering I have neither played the original game, nor do I play the current one. Looking forward to the next great one. Just look out for that corporate hubris...
I think the fact as a Japanese businessmen he actually admits to squares hubris openly is one thing but to be in his position and keep that same tempered mentality is something truly special. He deserves to be rock star he is at fan festivals for every second he's there.
The moment when Yoshida was turning around to take a big breath, trying to contain himself and refrain himself from bursting out in tears in front of the audience, as well as the moment where he and his team were all bowing down towards the audience and (I assume), being sorry about the big mistake that the old FFXIV was and that they're trying their utmost best to improve upon their new foundation. Both of these moments were incredibly heartwarming!
I have played the game since I was invited to the OB of 1.0. I had never been so proud when I was, like many, invited to start playing SE's new FF MMORPG. Watching both Koji at the beginning talking about the failure and you can sorta see him become upset and even hear a bit of a voice change to YoshiP breaking down during the 2.0 launch; emotional. So emotional. I'm glad myself and my friends stayed with the game everyday til the 1.0 servers were shut down.
It's not everyday that you'll hear from someone in such a high position in the game tell you that it's okay to play the game for a bit, rest, play other games or spend time with your family. Yoshi-P truly understands what a game is supposed to be and especially an MMO. Other MMO devs will constantly bombard you with shit to do and force you to play them otherwise you'd miss out on good gear or fall behind players. FFXIV lets you take the game at whatever pace you want and you'd still enjoy it. Naoki Yoshida is a hero to both FFXIV and the genre itself. He and his team deserve all awards and it's surprising that the game still hasn't won Game of the Year.
Watching this just after (and among) the surge in players that caused SquareEnix to temporarily SELL OUT of FFXIV! Seeing the history and the context for how this game came to be where it is now, absolutely fascinating. It makes me appreciate my experience in game that much more.
That bow at 3:40. That's some real shit right there. Everyone is bowing the standard 45-70° Japanese 'respect' bow except Yoshida, who bows way past 90° he's nearly at 120° with that goddamn bow. More can be said in a single gesture than a 1000 word apology letter. That's what I like about Japanese corporate culture. The people on top take the most responsibility, for both the good outcomes _and_ the failures. In North America it's so backwards. The people at the top take credit for other's successes and blame everyone but themselves for failures. At my workplace the motto is "shit rolls downhill" meaning everyone always blames the next person down the ladder. Nobody takes responsibility for anything unless they're forced to. I think Western culture could learn a lesson in honor and humility from Japanese culture. Satoru Iwata took a 50% pay cut after the failure of the WIiU launch, whereas over here most companies would just fire a few thousand lower-rung employees to recoup the losses. Anyway, great documentary and congrats to Yoshida and his team for a well-earned success.
That's just it, the bad leaders in the Japanese corporate structure often are truly awful, but then there's those few leaders like Yoshida, who truly do all they can to treat their employees as human beings and accept responsibility when they screw up. It's people like him (and the late Nintendo's Satoru Iwata, may he rest in peace) that I legitimately respect and admire. Yes they might have some flaws, all humans do, but their actions and guidance have created some of them most amazing gaming experiences in recent history, and for that they'll always have my respect.
MegamanNG You should. Wonderful game. I was NEVER a MMO playerv and I still wouldn't really consider myself to be one but this game is special. It just grabbed me and I kinda fell in love with it.
have the same thinking as you before giving 2.0 a try myself, i dont even know there is 2.0. i only know the disaster 1.0 and that's it. the time when i learnt the history of ff14 i tried the free trial and fall in love in an instant XD. have some adjustment for the combat tho (because i play guild wars 2 before). my advice is give it a try with the free trial, got nothing to lose there.
You have it reversed: FF7 and FF15 do not look like FF games. FF14 is a return to the true roots of the franchise in terms of look and feel, and if you shun a game because it looks "too kiddy", you are denying yourself the chance the experience some of the best games out there.
yes this game is amazing and is something you must expirience as a FF fan. I got FF14 one and a half month ago and im loving every single moment of it rly its amazing a breath of fresh air especially when i just came out from FF13 zzzzzzz
At this point I think we should look at Yoshi-P the same way we look at people like Kojima. Great individuals with a clear vision for where gaming is heading. The only difference is that unlike SE , Konami didn't change according to match the current gaming landscape and therefore lost the respect of their fans. Kudos to SE for believing in a man's vision and trusting him with a ton of money and the legacy of their biggest franchise. An amazing documentary series that made me appreciate gaming and the people that make games even more. Congrats , i look forward to more amazing videos !
Yeah, he's one of the great creators of games, for sure. The ability to unify a team and lead with clear vision is especially critical these days, when large games basically can't be made by a small group anymore. Square, especially, has had trouble with this transition. I wonder if anyone there really understands what they've got in Yoshi-P. They trust him, sure, but will they give him more and better materials to make more and better things, or will he be shackled to 14?
Question is, do they let Yoshi leave a game he brought back from failure to go on and make a new game? Because then, you're leaving HIS CREATION in someone else's hands. I mean, FFS. Tanaka was XI! Who would have thought you could take what you did in XI while being successful and take all the things you have learned yet still fail at your next project? Another MMO at that. He had and knew everything he needed to make XIV a success and he could not. He did not. I'd like Naoki Yoshida to move up and have a successful career but I'd be worried XIV would not continue to be as successful as it currently is.
Incredible respect for Yoshida-san. His approach of it being ok to log in with patches and not being forced to grind every day is such a human design decision. Thank you everyone for your hard work!
WoW used to be like this, devs and directors who played the OG Warcraft games and really cared about the game and the story. Blizzard has fallen into the hands of those who no longer care.
@@TacNuke951 Agreed. Blizzard had this level of dedication with WoW, until they got into bed with Activision. Happy to say I quit WoW 5 months ago (played for 12 years) and I picked up FFXIV. Only regret is I wish I picked it up sooner.
@@TacNuke951 One of my friends was a WoW veteran from vanilla, earlier this year he finally had enough with Activision-Blizzard and sadly quit the game to join me in FFXIV. I kinda feel bad for him.
I know this is an older comment but the Twilight over Thanalan music is in 2.0 as well! If you create a new character and start in Ul'dah, it plays in the opening carriage ridge cutscene. I thought it was a nice touch :)
Looking at this now, after the release of Endwalker, which was the completion of the story starting with A Realm Reborn, I can’t IMAGINE the whirlpool of emotions going through the players who have been there since the beginning. I’ve been playing for a little over a year, and have completed every expansion. I tear up watching that initial cutscene where Dalamud crashes down. If I were one of those players from the 1.X days, I would absolutely sob.
Wow, thanks so much for this series... as a long time player, one of those "warriors of light" talked about in the video, this brought tears to my eyes... I'm also a big softy. FFXIV has been such an adventure for me and my family this was really fun, and emotional to watch. Thanks for making it, and thanks for all the patron's who supported this project. :)
when you decide to finally watch the documentary, and all the damn channels you sub to have commented on it. that moment of I just watched the greatest explanation of this train ride humanly possible, shifting to "oh look, that F***er is here!"
Thanks for sharing that touching comment, I've never played either version but I love the story of this game being rebuilt. I honestly never thought something like this was possible
I really like what Yoshi P has stated that they aren’t forcing us to login everyday but able to come back once every now and then for the content. And spend quality time with family. This was exactly happened to me and before watching this. I played 1.0 until quit, came back at ARR and played hell of it, quit and come back to Stormblood and finished up everything I could enjoy In about 5 months, and now come back again for the shadowbringers, played through from 4.1 until now. Thanks Yoshi P for designing such a great game.
And here we are now in 2019...the day before the 3rd Expansion Pack, Shadowbringers...it's been so long since I experienced the 1.0 story...it's been a wonderful ride I intend to continue being on board for until the end.
The year is 2022, roughly 5 years since this series of documentaries released. I don't even play FF14 and I still come back to rewatch this series every few months. Thank you NoClip for covering such a fascinating story from within the gaming industry. Side note, I would love a follow up on the game. Especially since it's dethroned WoW.
Funny how watching this in again in 2021 all the comments about corporate arrogance, not listening to players, not evolving with the times and above all (wasting the players time) are all the reasons why WoW is bleeding subs and many of them are going strait to FFXIV. Asmongold said it best recently when discussing the two games: "An MMO should not waste you're time, it should MAKE! you WANT! to waste you're time.
I ended up purchasing FFXIV and its expansions for PS4 in the middle of watching these videos along with others that talked about the situation without having to worry about SE's PR department. Even with those other videos you could definitely tell that the people making this game loved the series and desperately wanted to make the game better. I'm happy to financially reward effort like that, I'm more than happy to enjoy the fruits of labor that came about from that love. Thank you all at NoClip for bringing us this set of interviews. It was truly a great experience
Have fun registering it all. Only blight on this game is the terrible registration bull crap and slow early game. Otherwise have fun, be polite, and enjoy the story! Welcome to FFXIV
You won't regret it. It is an amazing game. I never played the original, but have been on A Realm Reborn since the beginning. Once you get past the early beginning slowness, this game never gets boring. You will never run out of things to do.
I feel the exact same. I've started to play the game very recently and I can only think... Why haven't I started before? It's the MMO I always wanted but didn't even know I should have cared about.
It's a well kept gem, when people realize what has been happening since the begining of 1.0 then they start to appreciate the game and end up loving it. Been a player since 1.0 (not consistent though), wasn't there for the ending of 1.0 however I do recall how bad it was, gorgeous, but bad. Obviously when I heard they were doing 2.0 I immediately got a collectors edition lol. It's one of those game you love coming back to, in my opinion it's a "more mature" kind of audience, with it's exceptions of course. During COVID I have been wanting to go back into it, but real life problems are first, miss my FC fam.
Coming back to this is in 2021 on the cusp of 6.0 and seeing how big this game has become brings a tear to my eye. Good job yoshi p and the rest of the team.
As a FF XIV player I really have to say this documentary is amazing :). You guys have done an amazing job with that. Also I can only add I have a great respect for Yoshida san and all the developmnet team for all the way they have come since 1.0. All the live letters, patch cycle, the ammount of the work they do and being close to the community, it's simply amazing! Thank you guys for this documentary and thank you Yoshida san that you made reborn of FF XIV possible :)!
If only huge american companies had the humility and passion for fans that Yoshida and his team have. This documentary is more than a FF14 history recap, its about how the right mindset can lead to great results for fans AND for the company. Bioware and Electronic Arts, Activision and Bungie, even Blizzard could learn so much from that culture
Naoki Yoshida will always be a legend in the gaming world i feel. He is deserving of all the love and praise he receives from his fans and colleagues. Not only did he make an MMO in 2 years, but also kept the old one running and did it as his first FF project, its like a gift from god
This is probably one of the greatest stories in gaming. It is a story that shows that failure is not necessarily the end. Unlike many companies today Square Enix admitted their failure and was dedicated to right it no matter the cost. In an act that has never been done before they recreated an entire game and broke free from the stigma towards the original release. They had gone from a disaster to a beautiful game that continuing to pull in players every update. I was not there for the original release because I was not a big Final Fantasy fan at the time. I started playing during the early days of a Realm Reborn and I could tell back then as I still do today that the developers really care for the game and their player base. This story is the greatest example of developers that refuse to be content with what they have and what they have made. They have shown that the only way forward is to improve. In a world dominated by game developers that consistently push out games and updates with minimal changes Final Fantasy XIV is a breath of fresh air. Thank you for making this video, it was fun, informative, and most of all it is a hopeful reminder that not all game developers are content with whatever they create, that there are those that actually listen to their communities.
Yoshida's MMO concepts around the 14 minute mark warm my heart. As much as I loved FF11 (over the space of 5 years!) in a realistic world, it was too demanding. I couldn't really play any other games when I was working my way through FF11.
yup... and then farming for stuff... camping for stuff... end-game ls, gods, NMs, BCNMs, etc, etc... but it was so much fun lol... I like a lot FFXIV but since XI was my first, the experience of the first time will never disappear... :D
I failed 2 classes in high school because of XI lol. I eventually had to give it up because when I got a job in college I didnt have the time to spend all day playing. Still though XI was such an amazing game and offered so much.
yeah... I was lucky enough to not fail anything haha... but yeah, my time spent learning was not great after I started playing XI... I took me a bit of time to recover from that, when I started to work I had to spend a lot of time trying to remember/learning what I didn't back on those days lol.
Thank you for allowing these guys to tell their story. Having played the game for years (though never in 1.0) you really get the sense that the team are invested in the game and the community, and even through some missteps are listening and taking feedback to heart. This series has been really enlightening in terms of what they've been through, and what contributed to that mentality.
I decided to watch this during the lead up to Shadowbringers. I'm in awe and even wiping away some tears despite just getting into 14. It's amazing to see and hear stories about just how much dedication - so much devotion - some can have towards something and the good that can come from it. Thank you so much for sharing the story of how this came about.
To finally be able to understand the whole "Warriors of Light" thing is probably the coolest part of watching this documentary besides of course gaining mad respect for Yoshida-san. Brilliant, thanks.
I'm one of the spoiled 4.x new players. The FF14 I know was already amazing at that point and never fully understood the evolution of the game. Thank you XIV team and 1.0 players! You all carried the game to where it is now so players like me enjoy it as it should be. I shed a few tears of admiration for Yoshida-san and his team. I was very moved by their grit to make everything great.
Yoshi P and the team ended up returning the favor of being brought to tears. Me and my grown man guildies ended up literally bawling over Shadowbringers and Endwalker, among many many other fans I presume
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I was one of the original FF11 turn 1.0 players, still got my 2010 collector’s edition copy of the game in my closet. Stuck with XIV from day 1 for 8 years, until I signed off one last time early 2019. It was good to revisit something I lived and breathed for almost a decade, and I even learned a few things I didn’t know about. If there is ever a third online game in the FF series, I will definitely be there again, but for me my time in XIV is over, and I’m glad to have been a part of it from the very beginning.
Amazing. Just. Amazing. Thank you for taking me back to those memories. Can’t say I didn’t find myself in tears at some parts of this series. I’m so glad to be a part of this community. Then, and now.
It kinda stunned me how emotionally invested i am in this game, teary eyed the whole time! I love this game, these devs and the FF14 community! Thank you Noclip for the awesome documentary!
Press Hearty I play on the Coeurl world on the Aether data center as "Reki Wylls". If you do decide to play I'd be happy to guide you through the early goings :)
Words can't do justice how much I fond of this video game. I'm not trying to be dramatic, but even after 6 years of active playing, everytime I log in, I feel like being embraced warmly and full of love (fortunately, my bf doesn't mind that I'm feeling this way other than with him) then I realized it's the dev team. You can literally feel the dev team's heart, soul, and passion in every byte of this game and this is what's been embracing me all these years. The game has been the greatest emotional support ever since I first picked it up and whenever I play it always make me ready to overcome anything in real life. FFXIV by all means NOT a perfect game. There were times when even I take a break for a couple of months because I was bored etc. but it always have a special place in my heart (along with Bloodborne, but that's another story). Actually, the fact that it's not perfect which really gets me. If FFXIV really was the perfect video game, I'm not sure I could love it as much as I do now. There are so many occasions when I feel like I just want to cry and thank all the dev team. Thank you for pushing through lots of hardship to make this game happen. Thank you. Thank you.
man, a part 4 of this doc series before Endwalker would be so good. So much has happened since Stormblood release , they could make a great episode out of these last 4 years
I feel i have to give much respect to Square-enix for allowing these interviews and discussing such a big blight on their track record, even if it's a positive one now. Hopefully this is a change we see in Japanese game companies over the next few years, and follow suit, since a lot of them seem to be what is described in this documentary. I still feel a lot of japanese companies are still stuck with the way of thinking that square enix had described in this documentary (capcom, konami) and i really do hope a change does come like Naoki Yoshida says. Naoki Yoshida is a true warrior of light in this situation and has earned my respect over the years (even more so now with this information) and truly look forward to future endeavors by him. Thank you NoClip for bringing these documentaries to light, and just telling these stories that need to be heard.
this is all feels. im watching this after completing Shadowbringers the lastest expansion and i'm just blown away. i love this game i love the silly players i love the devs. ty so much xiv.
This documentary helped the game rip my heart out again. God. I don't usually remember a developer's name for anything but with Yoshi-P being just so active with his community and his fan base he loves us all so much and there is no reason we shouldn't return the favor to Yoshi. He had an ambition, a very daring ambition that was at a risk but he took it and it blew up better than he expected. I never thought I would be sucked into an MMO cause I believed they were all for PC players only but finding out this game was on PS3 by my friend, I jumped it and played, left for maybe a month and a half but when I jumped back in...idk what happened...I just got bit by an MMO bug and I was hooked. I have been playing everyday since then on here since December of 2015, made great friends, made horrible rivals, but all around awesome memories. FFXIV helped me connect to people in a way I never thought I would. I recently had a vacation with 3 other FC officers at the beach for 4 days. I would have NEVER seen myself doing this without the help from this game and I want to extend my thanks to Yoshi-P from the bottom of my heart.
*rewatching part 2* "part 3 is out wednesday" oh shit what time is it oh shit what day is it oh shit no way, nah there's no way it's up at 2am. hell yah. I was just about to login into ffxiv, this is probably long enough to wait through queue.
incredible job guys, I feel like you humanized so well what gamers tend to take for granted. Watching that Yoshi P interview and seeing him be so candid and heartfelt was incredibly refreshing. I've shared this with my "non-gamer" friends as well. Definitely had some emotions, thank you. I'm gonna go get lost in their world before my 12 hour shift, I hope they know how much the work they put in means to people like me who really need those moments to disconnect and connect somewhere else. It is a place.
I’m here just before the launch of FFXVI and I’ve been playing FFXIV for the first time for the last couple weeks in anticipation and oh boy, I’m loving it! I love the team behind it too, they’re so passionate and respectful of their fan base. I can’t wait to play FFXVI, the demo was spectacular and I have no doubt that they’ll do it justice. What an incredible documentary and an incredible team. I’ve never seen developers as dedicated or loyal with an eye for great quality games.
I finally gave FF XIV a try over the last 2 weeks after 14 years in WoW along with other MMO's. I can honestly say I am loving it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that after getting to 50 on ARR (which I got for free) I gladly purchased the other two xpacs and on Saturday hit 70. Now I am looking forward to the next xpac in July. It is different than WoW in a good and unique way. This documentary was awesome, because as a new player I missed V1.0x, and to see what the dev's accomplished is amazing.
I love how Endwalker has the FF4 elements in it also. The US FF2 on SNES (FF4) was my first fantasy game (yep I'm old 😅) and has been one of my favorite fictional stories. It was also the first time I cried from a story, man the FF franchise sure does know how to yank at the feels!
Thanks for this series Danny - whilst I've never actually played FFXIV, I was always intrigued as to what happened in it's development cycle. I look forward to watching this later, but man oh man am I glad you went independent to produce these stories. Gladly funded you since day 1, and will continue to do so. Keep it up!
Thanks you for this documentary, this game really deserves that recognition. they will not see this comment ever but thank yoshi-P and all the team for making this amazing work of art this game its really close to my heart. Just thank you, and I hope to see you guys on Eorzea
I never played FF14 1.0 or anything but it always interested me. Seeing the A Realm Reborn cinematic you can't help but feel awestruck. It captures the struggles and hopes of the players and the developers, the extent of which only now I have truly glimpsed a part of. I have to say if anything who ever put Yoshida-san at the helm deserves almost as much credit as he and his team does for actually turning this sinking ship around and turning it to a shining jewel of the sea. Phenomenal work on the documentary and thank you very much.
Wow- just wow. I came into the game a few patches into 2.0 and never knew the whole story... now I have such a greater appreciation for the mmo that I love! Great work, Noclip! I've also binged the other documentaries on your channel while waiting for this part and I have to say, never stop doing this! Stories like these need to be told and you do it so well!
23:32 "Corporate hubris"; Now sounds ever more relevant to the current state of World of Warcraft under Blizzard-Activision. Aside, amazing documentary and interviews. Thank you!
I was there for the 2.0 relaunch and played with some of the diehard FF11 and 14 1.0 folks. This game's story was begging to be told, and I'm so happy people are beginning to get access like this to contemporary developers, people who are STILL working on games, without the PR log line and sales pitches. We need to SEE these people more, we need to hear them. That's how this industry will grow.
As someone who started playing final fantasy 14 after watching this documentary and watching asmongold play this game for a bit, it delivered above expectation. One of the best games where they really highlight you as THE main character and the plot is not easily guessed. Both the story and music evolved together overtime and you can really feel expansion after expansion they keep getting better and better. Please do give it a shot if you like games with a well thought out storyline!
Watching this documentary especially after looking at how crazy the success has been to the amount of players coming from WoW including Asmon has been insane. Started the game in 2015 and quit months after Heavensward cause of Work and que times were insane and now the quarantine in 2020 brought me back and the changes and player base was amazing. This experience is pretty unreal man..
Right in the feels, geez... *sniffle* Yoshida and his team are amazing people. Being able to literally destroy and build-back-up an entire world, like that, is just... Wow... o7
damn who cutting up onions....but for real. Let me go and download this game. Danny once again, you have broken the glass ceiling. Thanks for sharing this story. I got a lot of respect for Yoshida and his team now.
This video series is exceptionally relevant right now, with the Wow exodus and with FF14's rising popularity. The series documents the stark contrast that the companies seem to have, in both attitude as well as dedication to their craft. I'm quite impressed with this documentation series. Keep up the great work!
The video is from 2017, FFXVI announcement was 2020. So I guess there was already talk about it although nothing fix yet. My best guess is it's around the time Sony came to them "Hey, we are making the new PS5 console, you wanna make something as one of its first games?" and SE be like "Sure! Just give us some time while we ask our game creators" and YoshiP be like "I've got my eyes on you"
He also somewhat got his wish of running his own company. As the head of Creative Business Unit 3, he's still with Square Enix obviously, but he is his own subsidiary now. It's his team with his own offices that he gets to run his way.
I feel like FFXVI was in development after Heavensward cause there’s a lot of people who worked on that expansion in that game I think Yoshida-san want to make single player FF games with classics setting and FFXIV storytelling
I hope the NoClip channel can produce a continuation to this documentary series. I would love to know more about the Stormblood and Shadowbringers developement, as well as how the Square Enix team reacted to the huge player increase in 2020 and 2021.
I only started final fantasy 14 a few weeks ago, but I can already say that its one of the best games I have ever played, the community is super nice, the development history is so crazy it could be a book, and the game has been a joy to play even if it is something mundane as grinding for items. To be honest watching this makes me wish I could go back in time and play the original FF14 just to appreciate all that they did to improve on the original.
Hey, I'm curious, are you still playing? What are your experiences? I don't know if I can see notifications of replies but I'll try to look out for a resonse if you do decide to share your experience.
@@jobRobbemond Yep! I'm still playing! and I still love the game! Leveled up all my gathers to max, half my crafters and now I'm working on doing the rest of my battle classes! I even managed to buy my own property (multiple times)! I have had absolutely amazing time with the new expansion shadow bringers, its genuinely one of the best stories and games I have ever had the honor of playing and has inspired my own writing. As for experiences, they have been all positive, in the last 3 or 4 years I have played I can say out of the 3000+ Dungeons and trials I have ran, I genuinely have only had two runs that made me leave with bad taste in my mouth. Then on top of that this game has brought me and my boyfriend closer then ever. (I had started dating him seriously around the time I had started this game as he was the one who introduced me to it.) Its even positively affected the real world for me. Because of the challenge of getting a home, I became waaaay more efficient in saving money in real life. The game also heavily inspired me to take a career in to voice acting which I am currently going to school for. There are very few bad things I have to say about the game in its current state. My only real problem is with the old ARR content (which most DLCs fix in their own expansions) Its very hard to encourage friends to pick up the game due to how grindy and tedious the start of the game is even after the Shorting. Even with the Main story "Fixed" Its hard to go back and do old beast tribes after Shadow bringers made them Damn near perfect. Honestly, I could write a whole Essay on how much I loved Shadow Bringers with everything it did, but I won't waste you're time with that. Though thank you for asking and reading! Its not often I get to gush about how much this game means to me!
Spamlynguist it was bad, it basically took the bad parts of 13 and try to pander it to the China market (speculation at the time due to the grinding cap that was place seems to aligns with some of China laws and naming chocobos horse bird) with bad design.
Watching this documentary series now as the story introduced in ARR is coming to an end with endwalker and wow, what a journey this game has been on. I feel only final fantasy could do what it did. Here's to ff14 beyond the hydaelyn and zodiark story.
This is the first MMO with a subscription that i actually enjoy to pay. Even its just a small amount i show my gratitude towards the team who worked on this game, and still working. And even if the comparisons are getting old, wow has finally met its maker. Even more so now, when a lot of the big streamers are leaving wow for ffxiv because of the wow devs being stubborn and not listening to their players. Take the quote from Yoshida San when he mention that he never want his players to feel that they HAVE to log in to ffxiv, he wants them to login because the want to, to have fun. Re-doing this game was probably one of the best investments Square-Enix has ever made.
"If they decide I should do both projects simultaneously, I would probably have to do that." Yes, Mr. Yoshida-san, it seems you do. And your work on FFXIV has continued to be amazing. I'm looking forward to the future, and to FFXVI.
For an MMO it is still a Final Fantasy game with FF-quality storytelling. I definitely recommend it even if you're just going to play the main story alone.
I started playing this game in 2014 when my husband got it for free with a graphics card he bought. I'm so glad that it did, I love this game still 7 years later. It really means a lot to me
The story from Yoshida at the start... Man, that really made me tear up, especially since it was followed by footage of that event of him tearing up as well. I've always liked Yoshida, but this series gave me new level of respect for the man.
The wisdom he had about "you don't need to play game everyday" is insanely spot on. YES. A big thank you. A MMOrpg should be a fun thing, not a chore, not a boring grindfest. I honestly enjoy documentaries about gaming and click this one randomly and i'm glad i did. I never knew FF14 had this much story behind it, never knew such amazing people and community exist. Still remembering how Dawn of War 3's developers abandoned the game with a ridiculous post, this one puts a smile on my face. I definitely going to try this game, not have too much time on my hand right now but it will be my pilgrimage for sure.
Rewatching this after everything that has happened to WoW & how much people have grown to realize what a true gem of a game Final Fantasy 14 really is. Very glad it is finally getting the widespread recognition it deserves. Once again fantastic stuff from no clip, thank you for this gem of an interview. And nothing but respect to you Yoshida San & the entire Final Fantasy Team ❤️😊💫
Man... I knew the basics of this story when it happened but watching it when presented like this has given my a newfound respect for Squenix and especially for Yoshida san. I imagine this documentary will be responsible for a lot of new loyal fans to FFXIV. You did that entire series of events and that development team proud with how you presented their story here. You probably made them cry all over again as they watched it. I got something in my eye again watching this; why does that keep happening?
From death to the second most popular MMO in the world. A great story to be told. As an FF fan from the days of yore, it's currently the only one that feels like a modern game with the charm and soul of the older ones. Even if you don't want to play an MMO, running through the story is a good time. Sure, a grind and slog in some spots but it can be hard to keep the ship on full steam ahead for 100+ consecutive hours of content. People who are skeptical should absolutely give it a shot. Few games produce the memories like an MMO can. I haven't played in a while and I do miss it. Maybe I'll go back.
My sister started playing when ARR dropped, and was a high-end raider in HW who managed to make a living off the game. For years she kept saying, "Kat, you should play XIV, I think you'll really like it. Stop playing Diablo 3 and come play XIV with me!" I kept viewing more and more content in my periphery, and I started thinking it did look kinda cool with lots of things to do, and D3 was getting boring since farming GRs was the only real endgame. So I bought the full game when it went on sale and made my female Elezen in April 2020; my sister said, "I knew you'd be an elf!" Because I'm tall in real life, haha. I got hooked right away. By 2020 I had been dealing with depression for the last four years or so, and logging in to XIV every day made me feel like I was accomplishing something. I felt like I had a purpose, even if everything I achieved only existed in a fantasy world with no impact or effects on the real world. But it kept me from spiraling even more and was a great boon to my sense of self-worth. I finished the Shadowbringers msq in early November of 2020. My sister said, "I can't believe you finished the whole story in seven months." We preordered Endwalker. I spent the in between time leveling all my jobs to 80 so I could pick a main for EW... which ended up being Reaper. I always had a reason to log in nearly every day, some task I wanted to accomplish. Right after Endwalker launched, my partner became rather absent in our relationship; he was withdrawn, didn't really speak to me, and started intentionally avoiding me, which was how he chose to deal with his personal struggles. So XIV filled that void, allowing me to communicate with other humans. With all the WoW refugees who migrated to Eorzea, I spent a lot of time helping sprouts; although not all of them were willing to listen, enough of them did that I felt appreciated. I have always been that person who gets talked down to, talked over, and ignored in conversations and then people say I'm "too quiet." When someone actually listens to what I say, takes my advice, and succeeds, it's very fulfilling. Not in an "I told you so" way, but a "I'm glad I could help you succeed" way. In April of this year, my life changed drastically. I have had to start over from scratch, and although I try to set a goal that I can accomplish every day, it's been hard to achieve them when I have little to no financial or emotional support. My sub ran out in March, and I wasn't going to resub for the rest of the year, but I missed the XIV community and the ability to actually achieve goals I set for myself. I think there's a meme out there about "waking up every day and doing silly little tasks." Well, those silly little video game tasks are preventing me from completely breaking down or giving up. My life may be tumultuous right now, but if I can log in and come across someone also having a bad day and make their day a little better by healing them through a dungeon or alliance raid, that's enough for me. I guess I just wanted to thank the devs and the board members of Square Enix who chose Yoshida's Plan B and worked so hard to recreate FFXIV. It means a lot to me, personally.
Stormblood is probably one of the best final fantasy stories told in ages. It's a refreshing take on classic themes, told with maturity and altogether wonderful in execution. I can only hope they continue to grace us with content like this in the future, and I thank them for not giving up.
I agree, Stormblood is the best arc in FFXIV as well, and I feel the increase of voiced cutscenes and great voice work, as well as INCREDIBLE boss battles really contribute to that.Sticking something like Shinryu, who is practically an EX primal at the end of the game? It's awesome!
Yeah I really enjoyed it too. Well give or take a few things, the environments in HW were just so hard to top; but overall it was still pretty great. Wonderful pacing. The storytelling aspect of 14's just gotten better as time's gone on. Although now after watching this I loathe a bit to expect more work put on these poor guys, I do have to admit I'm pretty excited about content from this point on. I'd even love a whole new area, which hasn't been done before in post 2.0 14. The rest of Hingashi (which is obviously this worlds' equivalent to Japan, a bit more so than the mainland judging by archetecture.) is practically unexplored, as well as the entire western side of Othard (I mean ,on the world map, there's a giant freaking worm on it you can't just tease us with that. lol). There's a lot they can do after this, it's pretty exciting. Not to mention Return to Ivalice later on.
I just wanted to say that this 3 part series was amazing. I cried at certain points and I am not ashamed of that. FF14 has had such a major impact on my life and it is the one game that I can run away in when life gets hard or gets me down. Thank you noclip for this documentary, thank you Yoshi-P for not giving up, and thank you Square Enix for always being there for me. Not just for the FF series but for other series too. I have supported you guys since FF1 and instantly fell in love with you with Super Mario RPG. You are the one company that I can always rely on. Thank you again.
What they pulled off, ending 1.0 and launching 2.0 with such an event, such perfect execution, really is the stuff of myth. And, indeed, you can talk all day about developers and designers, but you can never overstate THE DIFFERENCE a good Project Manager can make. Yoshida is basically a freaking superhero.
I've been playing ff14 since early 2020, so Shadowbringers and I'm only just now watching this documentary. But seeing how hard the team worked and how much they love this game and knowing the success the game is now having and the AMAZING things they're working on, it's just so so nice. To watch this and know how much the community trusts them, to know how this game has changed my life and countless others, to know this community helped a refugee fleeing a warzone - it's just so beautiful. It makes me tear up and its my favorite kind of tears - happy ones.
Amazing ending to the series! Thanks Danny and the Noclip crew for bringing us Part 3! Was really enjoyable to watch! Sad to see it come to an end, but will definitely be looking forward to what's next! I've been linking the videos to some of my friends since Part 1 came out the other day. Showed it to a mix of different friends of mine that play XIV; some that I recruited into XIV over the years that continue to play and those that have been playing with me since 1.0. That way they could learn about the history of the game and have a better understanding of where it all came from in the beginning. Keep up the great work guys and thanks again for doing this on Final Fantasy XIV!!! Take care!
How the hell did I miss watching this 2 years ago? It takes more than just skill and perseverance bring this game back to life . Thanks to Yoshi-P's immeasurable determination and passion, FFXIV will surely go down in history
Played a little bit during 1.0, a little bit during the beta of ARR and a tiny bit of the actual launch, but about a month ago I decided to buy both expacs and really give this game a shot. I'm so glad I did. Through all of the patches, this is really one of the most polished, balanced MMOs I've ever played. This document was great, it's amazing that they were even able to pull off ARR. Just knowing how dedicated and passionate the team that makes this game is makes me want to make the push to 70 even more then when I renewed my subscription. Great doc as always, probably my favorite one so far. Keep up the great work Noclip.
Thanks so much to everyone who has supported this series. If you like what we do here at Noclip, consider subscribing to watch more free documentaries about games. Phenomenal job on this particular series guys. Having played both versions of FFXIV and being an avid MMO fan it's been a real treat. I'm excited to see what's coming next from Noclip :)
Thank you Danny and Noclip team.
Hell yeah thank you for the effort put in, Such an amazing insight to this phoenix event in the gaming industry
Seriously, this was amazing work guys. Thank you so much for putting out this wonderful documentary. You have touched the hearts of many fans of this game and I truly believe that. Here's to many more years of playing through the story of Eorzea and it's community.
ur channel is underrated as fuck!!!!
Naoki Yoshida is one of my heroes. Thank you for showing the world how amazing he is!
well thank you! x)
Healers adjust.
cool story bro
Oh hey larry 👋🏼
so basically, YoshiP
Yoshida in 2018: talks about stepping back a bit
Yoshida in 2021: i might still work on ffxiv when im dead
FF16 now too!
Yoshi P: IT DIES OR I DIE! CHOOSE WORLD!
Yoshida, making Final Fantasy XIV his phylactery:
@@Oops-All-Ghosts The playerbase, pledging their souls to power his immortal lichdom.
Beats my current job anyroad :P
Yoshi P is passionate about FF14 because it's essentially his baby. Who wouldn't want to see their baby grow up to be the #1 MMO on the market and the poster-child for respecting the consumer??
Anybody else get a little teary eyed when Yoshida bowed followed by his team? Shit got me in the feels, fam.
I remember seeing that waaaaaay back in the day and it still destroys me now...
Super humble bow too. Bent as far down as possible.
Yoshida saying he's embarrassed for getting choked up.....as I weep about a game I've never played.
Trust me dude, it's worth trying. Especially with the free to play update they released.
I joined reluctantly when quarantine started to play with a few friends joining to give us something to do together, and I’ve been playing nearly every day since. The latest expansion pack blew my mind. I can’t wait to see what this incredible, overworked team of people have in store for us next.
@@rosieweaselby still hanging in there bud?
@@dabsmasterflex he went silent
I need a Noclip part four to cover Shadowbringers and the huge influx of players for endwalker
I totally AGREE!
I just moved over to FFXIV from WoW, so this entire series was utterly fascinating to me! Loving the game!!

Both of these moments were incredibly heartwarming!
to be honest I am not a big fan of MMo's but FF14 gives a different experience than a normal MMO.
well I cannot play it becuase of time.
and a producer or director! lol hes been asking for one for like2 years now XD poor Yoshi XD
Same, it's crazy to think this was four years ago and we're in the middle of another surge of players in between 2 expansions.
@@SilverLuna07 another one incoming hololive just got the okay.
@@AlphaCarinae suffering from success
Too bad that Japanese corporate culture comes with the fact that people are worked to inhumane levels until they kill themselves.
Maybe I should give Final Fnatasy XIV a chance.
MegamanNG You should. Wonderful game. I was NEVER a MMO playerv and I still wouldn't really consider myself to be one but this game is special. It just grabbed me and I kinda fell in love with it.
Next MMORPG I play will be FF14.
I'll give it a 2nd chance.
Thank you Danny O'Dwyer & Jeremy Jayne, brilliant work!
have the same thinking as you before giving 2.0 a try myself, i dont even know there is 2.0. i only know the disaster 1.0 and that's it. the time when i learnt the history of ff14 i tried the free trial and fall in love in an instant XD. have some adjustment for the combat tho (because i play guild wars 2 before). my advice is give it a try with the free trial, got nothing to lose there.
I got FF14 one and a half month ago and im loving every single moment of it
rly its amazing a breath of fresh air especially when i just came out from FF13 zzzzzzz
Congrats , i look forward to more amazing videos !
is not totally the same thing about Kojima, Kojima have reputation be very complicated and hard to work with him
Kojima is full of himself, Yoshida is not.
And then, with XV we see that corporate SE have learned nothing. The news about 7 Remake sounds troubling as well. And KH3? Don't get me started...
If only Maplestory 2's team could've learned this, that MMORPG might still exist. Sad.
You'll never see this level of emotional investment from WoW devs/directors, or other MMOs for that matter.
Props to mr Yoshida.

It's unfortunate that this sentiment as only grown since then.
The music of 1.0 at the end brings me to tears.
Leo D. Astoria the ost is named "Twilight over Thanalan" for those interested
The FFXIV OST is golden, but this track is one of my faves :)
It seems very nostalgic, even though I didn't play 1.0 :)
Also, yes, softy describes you well.
Thanks for sharing that touching comment, I've never played either version but I love the story of this game being rebuilt. I honestly never thought something like this was possible
Thank you for your sacrifice, you who played version 1 of the game. It's thanks to you they invested in a better one.

And then Shadowbringers ended up being arguably the best content yet!

Same
@@D_Zolbie Im not an anime fan and the game doesnt feel like a weeb game at all
Coming back to this is in 2021 on the cusp of 6.0 and seeing how big this game has become brings a tear to my eye. Good job yoshi p and the rest of the team.
I just started the game and the first tutorial NPC was saying how they’ll never forget the ‘warriors of light’ which saved FF14
its 4am i was supposed to go to bed.
your bedtime is 4am?
he only need 4 hours sleep :P

Reading this in 2021: "even Blizzard"
New player to FFXIV here
Just stopping by after checking out some big stream by the FFXIV team
Nice to see such a rich history here.
For as long as I live I will remember my experience with all of this.

Stories like this are why i'm glad i've been a final fantasy fan for so long. I got in on the ground floor of 2.0 and haven't looked back.
After this documentary I will give the game finally a chance. Amazing people, amazing community!
Press Hearty I play on the Coeurl world on the Aether data center as "Reki Wylls". If you do decide to play I'd be happy to guide you through the early goings :)
I play on PS4 :)
Press Hearty PS4 and PC players play on the same servers, which is one of my favorite features of this game
Great, I'll get next week!
There should still be a free trial that runs until around level 35 I think? So there's no reason not to try!
So much has happened since Stormblood release , they could make a great episode out of these last 4 years
Totally agree
Or maybe with the events of Endwalker since it marks a transition period from the Zodiark/Hydaelyn story to our next adventures.

I would have NEVER seen myself doing this without the help from this game and I want to extend my thanks to Yoshi-P from the bottom of my heart.
yay my ''End Of Eorzea'' video is in this part as well! awesome :D

oh shit what day is it
oh shit no way, nah there's no way it's up at 2am.
Endwalker was the best Final Fantasy experience I’ve had since playing FFX back in 2002. Amazing storytelling, a true FF adventure.
I don't know why, but even after six years. Seeing Yoshida tear up still gets me. Thanks for the memories.
*sniffle*
Yoshida and his team are amazing people.
These videos are so great I get upset when they're about to end.
He gave a little chuckle about having to manage producing 2 products at the same time. Guess he had an Idea that 16 was his huh?
Hats off to all players and developers who didn't lose hope on this game ❤️
@@322Gammer hey, 2021 now, you still play?
@@daffanier Yep! I am still playing it! I've racked up almost 2000 hours of total game time!
@@322Gammer 2000 hours? Wow, maybe i should try this game?
I haven't played the original FF14 nor A Realm Reborn, but even I got goosebumps and teary-eyed. Great documentary guys!
Of course you play Twlight Over Thanalan. Playing my heart there even more!
"If they decide I should do both projects simultaneously, I would probably have to do that."
Yes, Mr. Yoshida-san, it seems you do. And your work on FFXIV has continued to be amazing. I'm looking forward to the future, and to FFXVI.
Well shit.....
Now I have to buy Final Fantasy 14. I had sworn off the MMORPG for years but this is very motivating.
Endyo. Same here. I've never been an FF fan but this game feels special.
Did you ever start playing? May have met you out there :p
I got back to it recently myself, on Zodiark :)
TheOddybody cool, sadly diffrent server, i play on brynhildr, but if you meet a Remi Aschente, say hi. :D
FanFest 2021 is in 1 and a half hours!, and always wonderful to re-watch this Documentary. How far we come :)
Yoshi-P: "Or if they decide I should do both projects simultaneously, I would probably have to do that."
And now he is on XIV and XVI.
My thoughts as soon as he said that
Much respect to the company and the team for staying the course and believing in the plan!
Without a doubt the best documentary I've ever seen, I just wanted to Congratulate you and your team on your work, well done! :)
sheppymailqwerty watch speakers network take on the fall n rise of ffxiv
My sister said, "I can't believe you finished the whole story in seven months."
We preordered Endwalker.

Man, speaking of spoilers, who can forget the time that Gostesu died, but not really because him and Yotsuyu and stranded on an island?
Take care!
An amazing story, that makes me appreciate the game, the stories in it, but most of all, the appreciation that the devs have for their fans even more.
