You can drive 3-4 hours and also be in the Appalachian Mountains in NE Alabama. Go to Mentone Alabama and rent a cabin with Mountain views. So you can go Orange Beach in 3 hours or 3-4 hours from Montgomery and go to the Mountains. The city of Mentone Alabama is on top of Lookout Mountain.
Hi Britt - LOL - I hope all is well. My husband and I moved to Montgomery from Colorado in 2021. I hope you remember who I am. You were such an AMAZING help to us "newbies" to Montgomery. I look forward to listening to your POV's. Best wishes and take care! :)
Even Though Montgomery AL is Sales Tax is Expensive, but the Sales Tax in Montgomery AL does not come prepare to Sales Taxes in Florida, California, Wisconsin, and New York State.
You are going to love it here in Montgomery, Alabama. I was in Vegas last week! I love Montgomery, Alabama....& you will too !! We have a new Whitewater Rafting Park opening up, next year 2022. Do not be tricked into thinking that you will need to reside in a city that is located "outside" of Montgomery....or "near" Montgomery. You will be conducting all of your "real" business in Montgomery: jobs, shopping, church, recreation, entertainment....so, you might as well live where you, " work, learn & grow." The Interstates 85 & 65 are a bother, if you live outside of Montgomery & have to travel back & forth daily. Avoid that drama & buy your home in the City of Montgomery, Alabama !!!!
Thank you for making videos about Montgomery. I did not know there is tornado in Montgomery until I watch your video. May I know how people survive through the tornadoes? Just hearing thunderstorm, strong wind is scary enough 🥹
Thanks for watching! Just like most places, we have episodes of severe weather. Very rarely do they cause major damage or risk of life, but occasionally they do. Unfortunately, this is just something you cannot escape no matter where you go.
It's March 2023 let me update my comment. We got a new chief of police Daryl Albert a year or so ago and he has really improved the crime drugs etc with his officers under him. My neighborhood is improving. Alot more like the old neighborhood I knew 30 years ago. Our city council is working on homeless and squatter situation. I at one point was wanting to move but have decided to stay.
@Living in Montgomery Alabama yes it does. Other things that are being done by a certain leader that is presently in office, that has brought other cities down, is showing its effect on Montgomery but we're praying he gets out of office this year. Other things are improving. I'm very involved with the police in reference to my neighborhood and have been for 6 years. That also makes a difference. People have to get involved and not be afraid of the people bringing your neighborhood down. They will eventually get the message and either straighten up or move. It can be done.
I am grateful to no longer live in Alabama largely because of long-track tornadoes. Dixie Alley will eventually overtake Tornado Alley. What about the crime? Please stay safe and well.
I was considering Prattville but wasn’t able to find any real good apartments. Now, I’m looking into Madison or Huntsville. I lived in Coy, AL for about 5-6 months which gets mostly Florida weather so I’m aware of the weather! I would love any tips you have. I’ll be in AL NEXT WEEK to look at apartments. Also, fun fact about mosquitoes: they like certain blood types. I rarely get bit by them. And Montgomery sales tax is DEF high as he’ll for no reason! To combat that, I would do mostly online ordering and pick up to get discounts 😂
You can also drive up to 2 hrs Birmingham and stop by Pelham we also have national park for cycling. Check out Oak Mountain State Park. There are curvy roads in between mountain 🏔️ Leeds, AL on Grants Mill Road not far from Lake Purdy.
From my time living in Montgomery: Best thing: The people Worse thing: heat/humidity 0% sales tax is hefty but the property taxes are super attractive.
@@livinginmontgomeryalabama is it safe? Not moving at the moment… we are in Pensacola FL, but I’ve been looking at different areas in Alabama, as it seems to have lower cost of living and much cheaper housing. I’m just watching different videos to get an idea of what’s out there. I hear Huntsville in nice, as well as lower Alabama towns that we are close to now such as Daphne and Fairhope.
No need to be scared. The Montgomery, Alabama hospitality is awesome! If you need help, the information number is 311 or 411. Welcome to Montgomery, Alabama !!
I would have said the amount of rain we get in Montgomery AL is immense! Typically when it rains it does not rain by inches it rains by feet if not gallons. I have two planters near our pool and they fill right up with water which is Amazing to me... Also rain is good refill up the pool but can;t just go out and mow your lawn when it rains so much. Also customer service is one of the worst I have ever experienced in my life. Medical billing is very bad, always get surprise medical bills and have to call call call email email to get these headaches resolved and no one can do their job very well. Montgomery is like moving to a different country but the homes are beautiful here and affordable before Covid came.
The trade-off for the sales tax being so high in Montgomery is that the property taxes in Alabama are so low. The crime in Montgomery is a problem. The east side is safest.
Hey thanks for watching! For any crime stats or questions I would encourage you to check local resources as I’m limited on what I can recommend based on those stats.
Why are the red states in the South particularly are there 4:00 still to this day big economic disparity inadequate services in(certain areas) an salaries haven’t increased to keep up with the cost of living Iam quite sure it has it’s good points though there’s good an bad everywhere
Good evening Sarigommula. Auburn University is about 45min drive from Montgomery but we have Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) here! When will you be moving?
I don't like the south at all in general. Been in prattville a year now. 4th state I've lived in. I've also lived in another country for a few years. The humidity is disgusting. SO MANY BUGS. Everything is very run down, not well kept, garbage everywhere. And the paper mills make a sewage smell that can be smelled within a 50 mile radius. I also can't stand that forced "southern hospitality" .... it just makes me feel uncomfortable and it doesn't come off as genuine anyway.
@BOBcrazyguitarguy the humidity is pretty bad, and as someone who's lived here my whole life, you never learn to like it 😂. I don't agree that everything is run down and yes, the paper mill smells bad, but I might smell it once a month at most. What about southern hospitality feels forced?
Like Montgomery is not good become they don’t have much to even do. Also they don’t have a FBS team. They just have the Alabama State Hornets. And it so dangerous then Birmingham because of their dangerous hoods. I can talk trash about them all night but Montgomery is not good. I went there sometimes when I go to and from Mobile.
Like any city beyond a certain size and population, Montgomery has areas that are less safe, but also like any city, most of the people and areas are fine. It may strike you as odd based on your comments, but I don’t know anyone who has been robbed in broad daylight…or otherwise
People always say things like this about Montgomery but even back in my youth when I was doing some really wild stuff I've never seen anyone get robbed in broad daylight, held at gunpoint, or carjacked. Most of the property crime is kids stealing from unlocked cars or running in someone's house because they left a game console/TV box out in plain sight. Most of the violent crime is drug/gang-related and usually doesn't spill over to the average person. It's the same as any other city imo... Tuscaloosa is half the size with way higher housing costs, lower pay, and pretty much the same crime rates.
Yeah car jacking and robberies in broad daylight definitely happens in New Orleans and Montgomery seems so much quieter. I am looking to go to Montgomery in near future
I am a young adult that lives with his parents I am from Missouri I'm used to weather like that and I'm also used to worse weather like that not when it comes to hot but when it comes to cold I heard you can get a house down there pretty cheap if you buy it I found on a website a house for $50,000 I have a question are those kinds of houses usually run down in that area?
Hey Brandon, thanks for watching...it really depends. Sometimes you can get a great deal on homes in Montgomery, and other times you "get what you pay for"...I'd love to help if I can.
Hahahaha Sacramento doesn’t have nearly as much humidity but it’s horrible. What I don’t like about Sacramento is the smog you have that should accompany a city 10 times its size. The Central Valley is the same.
@CoCoDominici The fact that you can take a day trip to a major city, and not have to pay the prices of a major city is a huge plus. We got to Atlanta several times a year bc its just nice to have the convenience. Have you gone to any professional sports events in Atlanta?
