Watching this on my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 12... Yes, it's a little older but still going strong. I purchased on Lisa's suggestion back then. Still one of my favorite convertible laptops to use.
Maybe you should start your own computer business and design a bigger laptop and watch the business go under within a few months! The problem is that the average consumers want thin and light, gamers buy gaming machines, pro’s usually use desktops in their studios for max performance. OEM’s are not in business to go bust, they do their research and although they realise there are a small minority that moan about thin and light, the core sales are in that sector, so that is where they have to compete. Try the notebooks like the Gram and Matebook X Pro and you will understand why consumers are buying these. Of course Intel forgetting they promised 10nm by 2016 and 7nm by 2018 OEMs have had no help from the SOC. Once Intel get their act together, 2021 for 45w 10nm, five years late, then thin and light will not need to be throttled as much. Graphemes batteries also by then?
Did you consider XPS 13 2 in 1 (10th gen) ? I did, but ended up ordering the X1 Yoga. How do you like it? I like the pen inside, and it felt better in my hands than the XPS.

I think most people just order on the site, not bother trying to talk to people. That's such a hassle. I wouldn't bother calling to order, just do it online.
I have been wondering the same thing. The big differences I can tell in terms of specs of fully equiped models is with there respective i7s. The Yoga X1 comes with a i7-8650U whiskey lake processor where as the Yoga c930 comes with a i7-8550U kaby lake processor. The X1 can come with a full HD screen that gives it better battery life but there essentially equal in endurance when equipped with the UHD screens. The only other difference I can see is the X1 having an optional IR camera for Windows hello
I bought a ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 4 with a 4K touch display and a 2 TB SSD in Germany in 2021. It's still almost new because I rarely use it. I wish I had gone for the X1 Carbon instead; the price was similar here in Berlin, and the X1 Carbon is much cooler. I love ThinkPads.
Pretty sure the machine saves its highest brightness for HDR content. Windows at max brightness was much darker than Linux on my X1C7 with the 4K screen.
Is there any chance of doing an update on this laptop with the 10th gen CPUs? Maybe just with regards to performance and battery life, since I believe the rest should be the same.
Longing for review of Extreme 2 and P1 gen 2 with an eye to improved sound or not and possible improved heat management so fan doesn’t go on so much. These computers don’t have top speakers but they claim sound is better in 2nd gen.
I just wish that the new keyboard is almost as good as the old one. Always have been a huge fan of Thinkpad keyboards, it's a shame to see them follow industry trends in what has been a key selling point for Thinkpads for years. Has anyone tried these new ones and the old ones that could share their thoughts with a little more detail?
AGREED! I JUST returned my dream computer, the Thinkpad X1 Yoga 3rd gen, because the key travel was just SO low compared to what I'm used to (Thinkpad T440s), and as a writer, I NEED a keyboard I can depend on. I tried for over a week to get used to it, and it was admittedly a very COMFY keyboard (soft touch was really nice), but it was almost TOO quiet, barely any audible/tactile feedback, and my fingers literally hurt after a few MINUTES of typing, whereas on my old comp, I can type ALL DAY. Yikes! :( I can't believe they'd mess with the KEYBOARD, of all things. So sad! I decided to stay with my 5+ year old T440s for now, maybe upgrade it when I need it. Until I find a comparable keyboard, no way in hell that I'm switching!
Lisa, I am a medical school applicant and I am looking for the perfect medical school laptop. History I have been an Apple person, taking notes in college exclusively on an iPad with the Apple Pencil. However I am a tech guy and am comfortable with windows. I have heard of some compatibility issues on Mac with lecture powerpoint so am looking for a solid windows machine that I can take hand written notes on and will last me all 4 years. Should I go with this machine for wait for the new dell Xps 13 inch 2-1
Looks great at a slightly lower price. I'm still not sold on yoga-style (flippy convertible) laptops. I'm pretty interested in Lenovo's next detachables, though.
Any chance you could review T495 or T495S? Seems like not many reivews of them in UA-cam. The price seems kind a tempting compared to T490 and T490S. Thanks for the great reviews so far :)
Hi kindly suggest as to one should go for higher resolution or higher nits in new X1 Yoga ? 14.0" FHD (1920x1080), IPS, 400nits Or 14.0" WQHD (2560x1440) 300nits.
Bharpreet25 hmm. I might get 1080p for more nits, longer battery life and spend on better proc and ram, and just dock it to 4K monitor at home when working on 4K content 🧐 what do you think?
Three reasons this won’t be a buy from me: 1. Loss the microSDcard slot. That’s a hassle for audio and photo file transference while on the go. 2. Aluminum framing makes me think ill feel the heat of the laptop on my lap more than I did with the carbon-fiber frame. 3. 4K display seems wasted as well on the demand for power for it. Gen 3 was ideal on the X1 Yoga. Would also be interested in AMD CPU’s as well not just intel ones in this model.
I'm looking at the Samsung Book S as a option other than the HP EliteBook x360 1030 G3. As laptops with LTE start releasing that don't cost more than a grand, these will start being a requirement before people buy. Can you review the Book S when it releases? Thanks in advance if you do 😁
It might look good, but you'll be splurging for ram since it's not upgradable. I would rather have a little bit of girth more than no upgrade options. It's one of the reasons Apple is such a poor value today and I wish other manufacturers wouldn't copy them. On the other hand if your lose with money, why not? But personally I am not. I still find the Latitude 7000 series a way better value as a result. You'll pay about the same but it can upgrade with you and as a result last with you longer.
hi Lisa! what would you choose between the 14.0" WQHD (2560 x 1440) 280 nits, IPS, multi-touch, glossy vs 14.0" FHD (1920 x 1080) 380 nits, IPS, low power, multi-touch, glossy? i would have gone uhd but it is currently unavailable right now. i would be using it mostly for photo and video editing. thank you!
I really enjoy your reviews - well done! Can you review the Samsung Book S when it comes out? Do you think that the Samsung Book S could replace my old Dell Inspiron 13 7000 Series? I am buying the Note 10+ and will be using Dex and link to windows. Is the Book S good enough if I am only using Microsoft Office 90% of my day? I am not a power user at all. But I am on the move a lot and would like a change.
Any laptop for Music Production? I bought Lenovo Y540 i7, 16gb, 256 ssd but cancelled because heard it gets pretty hot and sound not good with Lenovo device.
Hey, Lisa @Mobile Tech Review - weird question, but not sure where else to turn. On your review machine, did you see a half cm border around the edge of your screen that is a darker color than the rest of your screen? The rest of the screen is a shade or so brighter. I don't think it's a software issue since it's still clearly there when the computer is off, but it's really noticeable (to me; in reality, it's quite subtle), especially with dark colors, and I'm really worried it's a ghosting/image retention issue (I have the low-power 1080p version). Have you or anyone else seen this issue/know what it is/how to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated!
Has anyone tried the WQHD display? I'm concerned with how dim it is. Lenovo's sight rates it at 280 nits. That's 100 nits dimmer than the FHD and 190 nits below the UHD! 1080 is a step down so the FHD is out of the question but don't need 4K...I don't want to take the battery life hit of the UHD display either. But if the WQHD is so dim it will be hard to use in a bright room then I might have to rethink the UHD.
I'm so confused over Lenovo for some reason. Are Thinkbooks only "business laptops?" I want something for everyday that can also handle music production and some light video editing. I like Yoga series too, but that glossy screen, I'm not sure. The Idea pads dont' seem to have a USB A which i want. But then there's the "X" series, and Carbon, but they are also called Yoga, but are actually Thinkbooks too? sheesh I'm confused. Can a thinkbook like this be for creative stuff?
Huh. I just noticed that they put a Western Digital NVMe SSD in my i5-8365U with 16 GB RAM and FHD screen instead of the Samsung drive. Weird... I mean, it's still great, plenty fast, and I can always save money and upgrade it myself later, but still seems strange that they didn't give me an option between the two. lol. Hope that's still okay! What do you think, Lisa, @MobileTecReview ?
the built in ones are almost always UHS 1, if you really use it that often you would see a big speed boost getting a UHS 2 card reader via USB, sony has a nice and small one. If you really use it for professional use you might want to go with the prograde UHS 2 card reader.
Nub scrolling on this is buttery smooth compared to the other Thinkpads I've tried (the P1 and L380). This might have something to do with the Élan driver.
Losing the retracting keyboard may be a good thing: I bought the 3rd gen last year and scratched the touchpad in tablet mode with a tiny piece of grit on the desk. Maybe the unretracted keys will lift the laptop far enough to prevent this? Incidentally, I'd never buy a Lenovo product again. The build quality of my 3rd gen yoga was atrocious and I sent it back. The black paint flaked off the sides, the lid didn't shut flush against the base, the privacy shutter didn't move, and the keys around the red nub got stuck underneath it... I didn't find the yoga flip design very useful either. It was not convenient to switch between the modes and, even in tablet mode, the writing position (for notes) was awkward. I think the hinge on the leather hp folio is way more practical. I hope they put out a new version this year without that crazy 16:9 ratio...
Okay, first of all, I LOVE your shirt! Hahaha! I wish I had it! Secondly, what I REALLY want to know is, is it better than the 3rd gen? I mean, I personally like the 3rd gen MUCH better for a number of reasons - SD card slot, headphone jack on the RIGHT side (why on the left now? WHY?!), the dark black color, the magnesium-carbon fiber construction, maybe others, and I want to know WHAT they were thinking with taking away the Wave keyboard?! PFFT! That was one of the BIGGEST selling points! - but I'd like to know what you think, Lisa (and anyone else who'd like to share)! :D

What's your opinion of the X1 Yoga w/ new i7 10710 6 core processor? Worth the $ over the 8665? Thanks!
Nice review. I'm torn between this and the fujitsu U939X for my wife. I hope you review that fujitsu too :)
Great informative video as always, can you do the X1 extreme gen2. Thanks.
PLEASE PLEASE MAKE A REVIEW on the new Gigabyte AERO 15 and 17
What is the DCI P3 coverage? 87% AdobeRGB seems like it might be targeting P3
Hi lisa. Do you see a honeycomb pattern for the digitizer on the display of this model?
Feel like getting a used one.... but it seems the pen function doesn't work very well for artwork. Should I get the regular X1 carbon gen 5/6 instead?
Thank you...but, please can you do Lenovo thinkpad Edge e590 with amd Radeon graphics
Would you get the dell inspiron 2-in-1 black edition over this?
Is it possible to change graphic setting from 4K to HD on demand to save battery life?
Doing that won't save as much battery life as you think.....
I mean, yes, but then things won't look great? They'll probs look very funny and be sized awkwardly (esp because Windows 10 scaling sucks, lol).
Kindly review the new Thinkpad P53 workstation. Thank you!
Hello!
What about Dell XPS 13 2 in 1 7390 (2019) ?
Looks nice! My new dream to update my Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro.
I just watched your X1 Yoga Gen 2 video and you wore the same t-shirt. Luv ya anyway, Lisa!
hi, will you do a Thinkpad x1 extreme gen2 review?
How is that fan compared to the c940? Does it run often? Is it quitely running in idle mode?
ThinkPad X1 Yoga 4th Gen support SATA/PCIE SSD at WWAN-slot ???
What do you recommend?
This or the X390 Yoga? :D
Please review the dell Inspiron 15 7000 2019 if dell sends you any review samples
I don't see the 4k option on the Lenovo site.
How does this compare to Yoga C930?
They shouldnt have lost the microsd slot. Dealbreaker for me
Get a card reader jeez, those things are tiny as it is.
Anker 2-in-1 USB 3.0 Portable Card Reader for SDXC, SDHC, SD, MMC, RS-MMC, Micro SDXC, Micro SD, Micro SDHC Card and UHS-I Cards www.amazon.com/dp/B006T9B6R2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_b-kxDbBGJKR9W
I use the microsd reader in my x1c6 all the time, but it isn’t very convenient. If I’m lazy I just use a reader. Especially if it’s docked.
Not quite a dealbreaker for me, but pretty damn annoying indeed..
the built in ones are almost always UHS 1, if you really use it that often you would see a big speed boost getting a UHS 2 card reader via USB, sony has a nice and small one. If you really use it for professional use you might want to go with the prograde UHS 2 card reader.
Nub scrolling on this is buttery smooth compared to the other Thinkpads I've tried (the P1 and L380). This might have something to do with the Élan driver.
i'm getting 1 for school i dunno how good it is (yet) but wow seems like a cool computer and i'm glad to be getting 1 :)
Hope you are doing/did great in school. Blessings.
A laptop without a microSD card slot? Why? I wouldn't buy it anyway, but one more reason not to.
hi Lisa can you please review x390 yoga
Love the t-shirt!
Pls the HP 360 specter vs asus zenbook flip 15
Been hearing about Flickering with the 4k model.
Is this a good buy? Would you recommend?
Do you have a review in the 5th generation x1 yoga
LOVE THE SHIRT!
Is there a way to replace the battery after some years?
Apparently "fixed batter" is not soldered but screwed and plugged. I found a battery replacement video for another ThinkPad, so it should be ok.
What would you choose between this and the C940? :D
Any good chippa chippa laptops for students?
This or the surface book 2? I need a device for the next 5 years daily use.
You can't repair or upgrade anything on the SB 2, and the SSD is soldered on, so if anything happens to it, you're screwed. I wouldn't go, personally.
Which one is best compre at Lenovo think pad L390 yoga i7?
Please review Lenovo IdeaPad s540 14 inch.
Just ordered a renewed yoga gen4 i7 2tb 16gb ram 1080p thunderbolt3 11pro $450
