Tony that’s a lot bigger than ours and they claim to be the largest on Long Island! I haven’t been to ours yet but miss it too. Even if you don’t buy anything it’s nice just roaming the place.

Nice! I visited one of my local garden centres yesterday too. I brought some compost and a cucumber! All my cucumbers died so I've promised myself I will try once more with this one. Like you I was wandering around just for the fun of it even though I didn't really need anything.

Looking at the veg plant labels, it looks like they come from a nursery over here in Cumbria, just outside of Workington. The bloke who lives across the road from me works there, and he has been back at work the best part of 2 weeks now...I'll ask about the leeks...😁...Steve...🌱

I really envy you!! Thank you for sharing this visit. Here in Nova Scotia, Canada, we have been in lock down since mid March and it won't be ending any time soon. At least I have my gardens (2 large) and receiving seeds by mail (after long waits) but it sure isn't like getting out and picking plants from a garden centre. Enjoy your time. We are. Your enthusiasm is catchy!!

The phrase child in a sweet shop springs to mind, I wasn’t going out today but just about to get dressed n off to my local garden centre to who’s open, I was one of your hot wax winners Tony n trying a experiment, growing one in a greenhouse sensation chilli grow, one hydroponic and one in a pot in the polytunnel, all doing really well with chilli on already. Whether we need something or not it’s a good time to buy something to show our support for our garden centres at this difficult time
So glad for you :) My local garden centre still not open but has been taking orders and doing deliveries a couple of days a week for those that can not pick up their orders, not the same as going in but was able to get compost, chicken sh1t when needed, made a difference, one less stress being able to get those. A man out of my own heart Tony. My wife always says I can’t into go into a garden centre and come out with nothing. Unwritten man rule ‘Always buy something in garden centre even if you don’t need it and never use it’

I totally understand your excitement! Ours have been open about two weeks but I’ve been to afraid to go. I drive up and ‘stalk’ the plants from my 🚗! I’ve got a lot of plants started so I don’t really need any but we’ll, you have to look right?

I was squeelin' excited for you!! In my state, garden centers, plant nurseries and home improvement centers were all designated as 'essential businesses' and have been open all along and have been mobbed with people everyday buying stuff to set up gardens or do building projects while we are on 'stay at home' lockdown (the only approved outings other than grocery stores).
But I am *shocked* that no one is wearing masks!! I have been wearing 2 masks and gloves since March and our state will continue with phases of lockdown thru September, so will be wearing masks and gloves until then, if not longer!

Ours are open but the queues are massive
I always found clays quite expensive compared to other places. But they do have a great stock of different things. I'm sure theirs one round the corner next to Nissan but I've never been to it.
Hi Tony, when you visited Clays did you see any Celery plants as I only had two seeds germinated then they died.

I like the stock from clays but a bit more pricey than other garden centres nearby
ive just planted broccoli out today and ive got a dozen left you could of had stan
ive got some leeks you can have mate the variety is caranten im only in sunderland
and thats a "small garden centre?'......thats bigger than anything I have locally! haha

I prefer smaller family run centres, less expensive and I find better crops, Pity Me garden centre is my favourite at the moment near Arniston centre Durham... I may grab a cherry tree or two !
Garden Centres are a dying business here in Australia. We have a big chain of hardware/home improvement stores (Bunnings) here, which all have garden centres attached, that offer a huge range at low prices. On the one hand it's great, but the down side is the independents can't compete and the Bunnings store are manned by pimply teenagers that can't help you if you need help or advice. Besides, I never think it's health when a multi national hold a monopoly.
My bank balance was doing so well until the garden centre reopened!
