i knew someone who did this with a rubber hose or you can use a black plastic pipe for pluming. he did not even need to pump any water. the water would be pulled up to the roof just by the temperature change. but what i never understood was why no one ever uses a pool as a condenser for the radiator of an air conditioning. it could heat a pool and cool a room at the same time.

You lose a great amount of water by evaporation, all the treatment is gone as well. Not talking about all the grit from the roof that needs to be filtered out. This needs a closed circuit system.

I'm planning an indoor pool here in the UK.
It'll have a metal roof, with pipes BENEATH the metal, carrying water in a grid pattern.
No grit or bird poop will get into the water. No problems with evaporation.
A super-insulated pool will retain its heat from September to May.

The water treatment goes away with evaporation..

Yep, water and heat loss thru evaporation. The white trails are pool chemicals left behind with evap. As you discovered significant efficiency gain by enclosing it in clear poly and y0u can get even more by insulating the remaining faces to trap heat...

On the positive side.... it's dirt cheap compared to other designs. One of these days I will do a parts list on the various fittings and extra pipe needed to make something similar as a closed system. Would guess a few hundred bucks (US) might do it because all of the support is already there. (the roof itself) I have no idea what it would cost to add a layer of semi-clear roofing over the additional pipes to gain efficiency. The one thing I do worry about with any solar system is how hot it might get if the water stops flowing. IOW, a total meltdown of the pipes would make a LOT of repair work.

mmm. I don't know rick... what about evaporation?

I have to imagine this could absolutely not only create free heating for a pool but simultaneously reduce cooling costs in the summer! It'd be interesting to have some idea on numbers.

It does actually help cool the house a lot. However, this method would lose a lot of water to evaporation

    Domestic water temp?
    Hot water temp?
    Room Temp without cooling?
    Room temp with cooling?
Water meter reading before pump starts?
Water meter reading when pump switched ?
Pool water temp before pump starts?
Pool water temp with pump running?
    Pool makeup water in CBM?
    Outside air temp?

You didn't even touch on it making the room beneath easier to cool. I'd like to see someone show how it effects that.

Any news about what is really going on in Ukraine currently? Is there a war? I’m trying to distinguish propaganda from reality…
Hope you are well! Praying for your country!
