That happened to my brother when he was living in chile. He went to the doctor cause he had a high fever. In our very Mexican home, we know fevers as calentura, but in chile I guess it means you're horny. Now imagine him telling the doctor que tiene mucha calentura lmao. We now just say fiebre.

One of my favorites is bicho, which for Cubans means a bug, but as I quickly found out on my first trip to Puerto Rico it means something completely different 🐱. The looks from the folks as I dropped the lettuce and screamed about the bug were priceless!

I'm Guatemalan and what Mexicans call Pan Bollios we call Pan Pirujos and when you live in California where it's mostly Mexicans you get quite a few looks when referring to bread because from my understanding to Mexicans a Piruja is a lady of the night 😳😂

my Spanish tutor is Peruvian, and im dominican. so of course our vocabulary is different. she told me that getting angry was "encojonarse" or smthing like that. so i started using it until one day my Abuela told me "ay mami no digas eso, en la República Dominicana encojonas son testiculos"
and this is the day i will never use my tutor's vocabulary ever again

Wait what? Peruvians don't use that word! When we're mad, we're like... ah... "fucked up"? Well, in our Spanish it's the word with j (bad word/cursing) (and sounds similar to the word you just mentioned), but I've never hear some Peruvian say "encojonarse". Usually when we're mad we curse (except me. I don't use bad words in Spanish. Instead I use "bad" or "damn" (inf. "maldición") or "rays" (lit. "rayos") because it's less mean). That's part of us!

Actually in Puerto Rico the words all depend. We use different words in the north than the ones in the south some of the time. The words you use might depend on what part of the island you're from.
Grey Copper+True, I know that in the south you would say empanadilla but in the north is pastelillo (also they say empanadilla)
Mokki In the north, the words we use are either extremely proper, or like slang. Then in the center, it's very lazy, and in the south, it's very, very different and you need to be careful with what you say at times.

I can so relate to all of the comments and the video about how easy it is to misunderstand the meaning of some words. For example in Honduras we don't call the 'concha' you showed in the video that, we call them semitas. And concha for us also means vagina in a vulgar way.
Also for us 'torta' means cake but we prefer to use pastel; and another meaning to torta in Honduras is refering to makeup. Como decir que pije torta andas en la casa, which means your face looks full of makeup or you have too much makeup on.

In México CACHAR means COGER (agarrar) but in Perú CHACHAR means TO F#CK. An unforgettable incident about this, is when Mexican singer Thalia visited Perú in the 90s and while she was on some TV channel's outdoor stage, people asked her to jump on the crowd; and she responded on live TV: "OK, PERO USTEDES ME CACHAN" The crowd went nuts, some people were shocked and the TV station had to go to a sudden commercial break and later apologize for the incident and explain the difference of the usage of the word in Mexico. In Ecuador and a southern part of Colombia child or baby is wawa, since it's a Quechuan word. Same as pupo is belly button.

The Philippines has Spanish peppered in Tagalog, so we have words like:
1) CONYO = "vagina" in Spanish, but we use this to refer to Filipinos who mostly speak English and not Tagalog
2) LECHE, which is just "milk" but for us it's a curse word for some reason??? I dunno why but it is.

There are also words that are very specific to certain countries. I’m not Latina but I’m living in Chile right now and it’s like they have their own language here entirely at time. Instead of aguacate it’s palta in Chile. They don’t use novio/a for girlfriend and boyfriend they use pololo/a. It’s beautiful like Curly said because it makes every country different but it’s super confusing when you are learning a second language

When I was in HS, I was hanging out with a few South American friends, either Ecuadorian or Colombian...forgive me, it's been 20 years....anyway, they are a brother and sister...so the sister said to the brother "Papa es tan coño!!!" Now, I'm Dominican, so coño is usually the curse word we turn to for everything. LOL. So I said in my head "......aye coño, what did she say about her dad?" and she saw my face and she told me that for them "coño" means "cheap" LOL!

Verga, arrecho, ladilla, huevon, (venezuelan words) , what do they mean to you?
En República Dominicana verga significaría pene pero no se usa esa palabra, arrecho sería una persona emprendedora o algo así (tampoco se usa, tiene doble sentido?), ladilla ni puta idea xd and huevón sería un zángano, holgazán etc
En México:
- Verga es... pene JAJA
- Arrecho no tiene significado, creo ¿? Nunca he escuchado a alguien decir esa palabra.
- La ladilla es un insecto/parásito/piojo pequeñísimo que vive en los pelos de los genitales de la gente :^)
- Huevón es flojo XD
Verga para nosotros es pene tambien pero se usa para cualquier cosa " Pasame esa verga" "como estuvo la verga?" (como estuvo la situación?), es decir, encaja en cualquier oración. Ladilla es pereza "Me da ladilla levantarme de la cama". Arrecho es bravo o molesto, "Estoy muy arrecho, que arrechera cargo!!!". Huevon es una persona boba o que no sirve para nada, es un insulto común entre amigos.
Por su verga sería el equivalente al "baina" de nosotros.
"Pásame esa baina"
"Que baina con ésta baina"
"Me dejas tu mardita baina"
"Mira esa baina arriba de la otra baina con la bainita verde, que baina con eso"

Ugh. I love you guys and your videos but stop grouping Spanish speaking countries together. Sharing the language of the oppressor does not mean everything is a "Latin America" thing. Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica have more in common than Puerto Rico and Mexico vice versa because we are part of the Caribbean. Our language may be a dialect of the oppressors language but each is different and the the Taino language is what is embedded in the dialect used in the Caribbean aka PR, Cuba and DR. I get you like making it all inclusive but come on stop grouping us all together. Our cultures are different and we share more in common with Haiti then Ecuador.

Torta in Tagalog is like 'fried' into an omelet. For example Tortang Talong is a popular torta for us, it's just boiled eggplants that are drained and mashed then mixed with beaten eggs to make eggplant omelet. It's yummy hehe

OMG! I thought about that one "cojer" as soon as I read the title, I'm so glad he brought it up. Also, "fregar" for us Dominicans means to wash the dishes, but for Peruvians it means when someone is being annoying. It's just very interesting to me how we all speak Spanish but we have different slang according to our native country.

I know when I was growing up ( 6 years in Honduras, and then raised in America) when my mom would speak in Spanish to us pedo meant fart, but when we became friends with a Mexican family they would say pedo meant because to them I do not know if it is slang or just them. But that is when I learned every Spanish culture is different even in language.
