If there's anything I learned, its that modern world or just world in general is very friendly to narcissists. They benefit from the system via self-marketing and excessive self-obsession. They get other people to obsess over them to gain power. If a particular phenomenon is happening simultaneously, its for a reason and that reason being humanity tbh.
Love the recognition of nuance & love that someone else overthinks as much as me 😂 when you said maybe you're posting to build your identity in other peoples minds I thought well isn't that potentially narcissistic too? Why are you trying to build an identity in other peoples minds? & isn't seeking compliments and trying to build an identity in someone elses mind similarly egoic? Great & confusing chat ❤
I had those same feelings at 23 Emma, I'm 29 now and it's been 6 years and I'm relieved that I don't partake in social media the way most people do. It's simply not real. I'd rather live in my actual body than my digital one.
I almost feel bad, because the people ‘living’ on instagram. . . clearly don’t have personality or responsibilities! It is so childish for someone to develop a career on ‘instagram’ in 2024
same!!! and It's crazy to me to think that there's 35+ ppl that havent reached that point of thought yet, cause to me it only had gotten more obvious with time
It isn’t inherently narcissistic. It depends on the context of the post and there is a lot more to narcissism than posting online. Narcissism stems from insecurity and the need for validation to feel better. It’s all about manipulation to make people kiss the ground you walk on and being toxic when things don’t go your way
It's not narcissistic. Love yourself! It's all about your intentions behind it.... I really, truly believe pondering this "being narcissistic by posting images online" is part of healing from what you THINK you think. Learning to be intentional. It's not the picture being posted that's narcissistic, it's the motive behind it. We all want to be accepted and loved to our core. It's okay to post on insta and have fun.
I barely post pictures of myself anymore, like ever… my last ones were in February 2023.. but I LOVE posting memories? When I started using social media, everybody posted their experiences with friends and all the cool stuff they did, and I did so too and my pages mostly felt like an unprinted album and I kinda like it. I miss when we printed pictures and had albums as books full of memories, and I’m kinda trying to get that back for myself little by little.
I think really the tricky part about social media is the sheer volume of people witnessing you. Human being crave and need community, validation is our evolutionary signal that reinforces our feeling of safety and acceptance. When we prop up superficial metrics to measure how strangers feel about us to be more important than things that sincerely stimulate and fulfill you (which never truly involves feeling superior to others) is when it is destructive. Real connections and belonging can be mediated through online spaces, but the wish to collect the approval and parasocial adoration of the masses is an empty journey because it ultimately makes staying true to yourself more challenging which is what your soul most needs
I literally had this thought the other day, for example Kim Kardashian, like why does she need to look so GOOD in EVERY PHOTO and how many PHOTOS are too much!?
But this take is interesting for me! If you find something of no substance then maybe you are just above her thinking and people who enjoy her content, you can find more intellectually challenging concepts with other people, not her but that doesnt mean she’s of “no substance”
That’s wild. Self reflection always has substance. I don’t think that phrase means what you think it means. Your interest in a subject does not give it objective substance or not.
Short answer yes
thakn you i wasnt trying to watch the whole vid
Watching emma’s prefrontal lobe develop in realtime
😂😂😂
When I’m trying to reach word count for an essay.
😂

Yes. Next question

I just turned 23 and I got this exact feeling after posting and immediately deleted my post. It seems like a common realization at 23.
same!!! and It's crazy to me to think that there's 35+ ppl that havent reached that point of thought yet, cause to me it only had gotten more obvious with time

Who else do you post in ‘YOUR’ instagram. . . I will wait for you to answer :P (it is narcissistic, keep coping amigo)
@@joonjonjewdude they’re describing you
narcissism doesn't necessarily stem from insecurity but I do agree its the reassurance and validation.

Yes. Yup. No yeah literally. Emma just knows. This girl like….gets it.
she thinks she's a genius lol, this is just an LA girl saying the most common sense statements
Or she’s just walking through a thought process she’s having. Imagine being an online bully 🤭 couldn’t be me
I had this same realization recently and I’ve been off socials other than UA-cam for 3 months now
I literally had this thought the other day, for example Kim Kardashian, like why does she need to look so GOOD in EVERY PHOTO and how many PHOTOS are too much!?
Thank u for using you platform like this man
I admire how confidently she says nothing of substance
Haha yes. I said this a while ago, when she posted about "has all art been made?"
But this take is interesting for me! If you find something of no substance then maybe you are just above her thinking and people who enjoy her content, you can find more intellectually challenging concepts with other people, not her but that doesnt mean she’s of “no substance”
How is being self reflective and open “nothing of substance” ?
That’s wild. Self reflection always has substance. I don’t think that phrase means what you think it means.

I think i have to accept the fact that I am narcissistic but try my best to not hurt my surroundings 🤣
Yes it is
