- Gunner was everything to me. I had waited my whole life for him. His personality and looks were so amazing. He was an unfinished sculpture. I thought he was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. He was the perfect combination of American and European great danes. He died a year ago today, April 17, 2011. Im glad I knew him. He was the happiest, happy go lucky dog. He was so full of life. Everyday was a new adventure. He taught me a lot about living in the moment. Thank you God for giving me Gunner.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Gunner was gorgeous. I lost my merle female Dane, Dora, shortly after her second birthday just before Thanksgiving 2013. Her passing sounds very similar to how Gunner passed...Dora was in the kitchen drinking her water, collapsed, and died within a matter of seconds. She had just turned 2 years old. It was completely devastating and I know I will never get over it. We also have a mantle male, Batman, who is 8 months old and he misses Dora terribly and is lost without her. We are wanting to get a Dane puppy soon, but we know Dora can never be replaced and we need a bit more time to grieve her loss. My heart goes out to you, Gunner, and all the Danes we miss!
Gunner was absolutely beautiful. Such gentleness in his eyes. So sorry that he passed on so young. Oh but you gave him a lovely life. God bless.
so sorry about Gunner. I found your videos today because I was trying to entertain my 10 month old great dane who is also named Gunner. He is a harlequin with lots of gray and also a mix of the european breed. dont know where you folks are located but wish we had playdates like yours in shreveport louisiana where we live!!
He was a beautiful boy, I'm sorry he was gone from this world se soon. I have male Dane who just turned 4 years old recently. I'll be devastated when I lose him.
I just watched puppy Gunner (Goofy Boy) and loved it, I wanted to see more of him and found this, I am sorry I couldn't watch this video to the end far too sad to see that adorable wee guy only had a year, but a very happy one.
Gunner inherited a heart condition, Cardiomyopathy. A necropsy could not prove 100% but showed it as the most likely cause. If he didnt die of it, he would have. I had extensive tests done. He collapsed in my living room and was gone in seconds. He had a heart murmur as a puppy, but that was supposedly no longer an issue. He had the best of everything. Its been a year and I still cant get over it. Ive lost 5 great danes in 7 years. Keleen

Hi, Keleen here. I wanted to update you on my most recent additions. I adopted Gilda who is Gunners cousin (same grandsire) She is so much like him but spent her first 8 months in an awful backyard breeding home. Then Mr. Maslow came along. He came to visit and he and Gilda ran into the back yard playing. I think they remembered each other as they are brother and sister! He looks like Gunner but is a traditional harlequin. If you had told me when Gunner died that Id love another dog more, I would have said. No, Gunner was it for me. But as I sat on the floor crying about my sister getting Alzheimer's, Maslow came tip toeing into the room and started smooshing his face into me. I actually started laughing and coudnt stop. Mr. Maslow is so mellow (like my Hero was) I really feel he was sent to show me that life does go on, and it can even be better than imagined. He is also European and beautiful. I still dont know why Gunner died, but if he hadnt, I would never have rescued Gilda who needed me or Mr. Maslow who I needed. I also made a new friend (Mr. Maslow's original mom) and Mr. Maslow will be making an appearance on "Portlandia season 4 starting Feb 27 2014. I have also written a short childrens story about how Gunner sent me Maslow. And Maslows previous owner, Henry who is now 11 is illustrating it. Maslow has turned out to be, yes, perfect for me. My heart goes out to you as I watched your video. I am getting a great dane puppy in a few weeks and I cannot wait. They have one in the litter that looks just like Gunner did.
