    FIRE EXTINGUISHER INSPECTION | 4 STEPS IN 2 MINUTES
    To pass:
    1. Check accessibility
    Make sure the extinguisher is visible, unobstructed, and its designated location
    2. Check Physical state
    a. Verify the pin is intact so the extinguisher doesn’t accidentally discharge when being handled.
    b. Check the plastic tamper seal if it’s got one. That’ll indicate if it’s been used and may need to be recharged.
    c. Look for obvious signs of damage, corrosion, leakage, or a clogged nozzle, or a damaged hose.
    3. Check the pressure Gauge
    a. It should be in the green but these gauges can break so it’s a good idea to lift it and make sure you can feel the weight of the extinguishing agent inside.
    b. Or, if it’s a CO2 extinguisher, there won’t be a gauge, so just lift it to make sure it’s still full.
    c. Move the instructions to face outward
    4. If it passed,
    a. Initial and date the tag.
    If it didn’t pass, take the steps you need to get it into shape.

    I worked at a power plant where bees liked to live in extinguisher nozzles. Nobody wanted to do the inspections. Your jacket it on point!

      Thank you! I’ll do without the bees, that makes checking fire extinguishers a little more exciting. 🐝

    also was advised by fire professional to turn your extinguisher upside down and give it a few love taps with a rubber mallet to keep extinguishing agent from caking. Thanks for all of the great safety videos, my OSHA refresher classes have never been better !!

    You have to know the listed weight of a CO2 extinguisher to determine whether it's full, partially discharged or empty.

    Why do CO2 extinguishers not have a pressure gauge?

    • @AllySafety
      @AllySafety  3 роки тому +4

      C02 fire extinguishers don’t have a pressure gauge because they use liquefied C02 (aka dry ice) which as a chemical characteristic, always has a pressure of 830. Therefore a pressure gauge would always read 830 - even if it were half empty so it wouldn't be useful information.

      @@AllySafety Thank you. It is 830 kPa, right? That is 120 psi.

    The real question is why do I need to pay 100 bucks for a certified inspection

    • @AllySafety
      @AllySafety  Місяць тому

      The annual inspection is more in-depth than the monthly one. :)
