  • Watch as we follow the Twin Cities and Westerns Saint Paul Turn for a day, and get the RRVW GP10 leading. We'll start off in Mpls as they arrive in the morning, and then head over the East Mpls. Later in the day as they start to head back to Hopkins, the Paducah GP10 gets to lead and puts on an amazing show with smoke. It also features the TC&W running on the Saint Paul Sub; something that is also quite rare. Other units in the train were the CAT GP20, GP38-2, and GP39-2.
The TC&W Railroad always looks and sounds good, and this video will show you why!

That GP10 is burning a lot more oil than diesel!

For a K3LA that sounds very nice on 406.

At 2:52, the location given can be misleading. The placement of the camera is at Colne Street; however, the street that crosses the rail (at grade) is Como Ave.

Thanks for the comment, and watching. Valid point; however if you watch it again, it says "Como Hill, Colne St", not Como Ave. This grade is commonly called Como Hill by railroaders, but I did list it as Colne Ave where the video was shot at.

It had a great growl to it, and even smoked a bit too! Since this was shot, the 406 hasn't ran much, and is currently sitting dead in Glencoe. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the comment. That is a rebuilt unit with a CAT engine, and called a GP20C.

How were you able to leap frog ahead of the train given the amount of stop lights on University Ave?

Pretty much! That GP10 was giving it all it had, and was REALLY putting on a nice show too. It hasn't lead this job since this was shot either.

When are they going to put the original engines back in these emd locos?these Caterpillar engines are not any good. They are not reliable. And they are difficult to fix. And ,they are notorious for smoking and failing on the road. They sound good, but these engines are not suitable for rail locomotives.
