Inside my development software, I kept getting the following error each time I tried to connect to the server. 1251: "Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server - consider upgrading MySQL client" After losing much time and hair, I realized that my software did not support the new password encryption of MySQL 8, but I could easily get around it by doing the following. During installation, when I reach the screen that says "Authentication Method", Do not choose the recommended "Strong Password Encryption", instead, select the "Legacy Authentication Method". This retains compatibility with older softwares that cannot handle the new method as yet.
