Then why did nothing happen to them all the time that they stayed there? And why did that only happen to his wife when he wasn't there? Why when that day when he walked through that forest, the hooting of the Owls was different? As if there had been some presence there. I don't know, the fact that they were fine for months or years without anything happening to them, and then all of a sudden when the doctor goes away, is when that happens to his wife. And from Mercury? Why would it not happen in all those other times they were there?

    • @nightdrivenen7909

@@whatskrakin37 My guess would be how much exposure there was. Perhaps she ran out of any purified water or normal drinking water and exposed herself to higher concentrations while he was away. Lacking a proper filtration system and not seeing the harm in drinking tap water. Since clearly it is not in the air.
The hooting could have been his own hightened senses from the worry and paranoia being driven to the max. Any form of innate alertness to what is obviously wrong distorting his perception as his fears run rampent. Since he was already unnerved, and potentially had a very minor exposure to mercury, his brain just overloaded the fight or flight response. Worrying about someone you love's safety is a whole other beast compared to worrying about your own afterall. Harder to tame that fear because you lack control over the situation. Imagine the thoughts he was racing through: did she get attacked by an animal? Is she hurt somewhere and bleeding out? Did someone find their house and come to attack her while she was alone? The fear of the unknown and love and devotion to his wife would spike his chemical production of adrenaline to get to her side faster and put his fears at ease.
Considering we also do not know how long they were there, it is possible she was having higher doses of Mercury through other beverage options [like water] more often than the Doctor was, and the amount of time they actually spent in the area creating inconsostant exposure; it taking months to even years of developing signs is not unnusual in this circumstance.

The owls are a real thing you can hear them even during the day. The cold spots did happen, the strangest thing was when the wind just stopped so nothing was blowing but this one branch sticking up from the ground was violently shaking every one there pointed there flashlights at it and just watched it happen… then we started heading out and on our way back to where we parked. All the flashlights decided to go out and this is before cell phones were a thing.. we literally bought the batteries and flashlights that day. We had to use our lighters like crazy people flicking away back to the cars.

Jon, here's a thought: You mentioned early on that the land had to be cleared of hemlock in order for the Clarkes to build their holiday home. Is it possible that hemlock grows throughout the forest at Dark Entry? If so then the whole environment would be toxic. The roots of poison hemlock can easily be mistaken for wild parsnips, and its leaves can be mistaken for parsley which is why it can lead to fatalities through accidental poisoning. Even touching the leaves, which can intermingle with the leaves of other plants, The known symptoms include trembling, burning in the digestive tract, increased salivation, dilated pupils, muscle pain, muscle weakness or muscle paralysis, rapid heart rate followed by a decreased heart rate, loss of speech, convulsions, unconsciousness or coma. Complications can lead to central nervous system depression, respiratory failure, acute rhabdomyolysis, or breakdown of damaged skeletal muscle, acute renal failure and death. Those are the known symptoms. There may be other undocumented side effects, such as delirium and pyschosis. And there is no cure. Could this kind of environmental toxicity be the cause of the "plagues" and insanity of people who lived in that forest?

I'm from Connecticut. As a Girl Scout many years ago, my troop went on a day trip there. You aren't allowed to drink the water, but I can tell you... it is one of the creepiest places I've ever been. It is at least a full 10 degrees cooler just past the fence from the parking lot. No birds, no bugs. I swear I saw two kids about 5 years old running down the path in front of us, but when we rounded the corner they weren't there. Lots of house foundations... we must have gotten turned around at some point and ended up exiting from the other side, miles from where our car was parked. Instead of walking back through the forest to the car, we decided to walk all the way around... no one out on the road that day, no one in the little town we ended up walking through... when we finally made it to the main road, the first person to drive by us was someone we knew. One of our Scout Leaders went with him to get our car. I'd take walking those extra 3 hours over going back through any day!

I used to date someone who lived near an entrance and we actually got stopped on the road his house was on and he had to prove that he lived there.

That's why the town was 'cursed'. That and there was only way in and out. At the time of the printing of the book, "the only humans who went there were practicing witches".

You're right. And after the witches had practiced for 13 months, they were allowed to leave the town and go forth to find new suitable places like Dudleytown to influence with their spells and conjured curses. (In addition to Dudleytown, Conn., there is Dudleytown, Indiana, and even Dudleytown FC (football club) in the West Midlands, England. (The football club was infiltrated by 3 witches who were known to place curses on opposing football teams. The curses were so heinous, only the most confident of coaches would bring his team up against the Dudleytown Football Club.)

I grew up in Litchfield and as a teenager we went to Dudley town many times to party, even right on the outside deck if this modern house on the hill where the NY wife went crazy. There are houses up there today and it is all private property so they will call the police on you. The road that used to go through and over the mountain is now overgrown. We used to party in the caves up there too. We even camped out overnight there long ago and freaked ourselves out but nothing happened. Birds are abundant, plenty of wildlife…it was just a bad place to try and put a town. No good water nearby, food spoiling, local minerals seeping into the water, Rocky mountainside with no good farming land, it’s no wonder it failed. People went crazy there because of lead, mold and other poisonings.

I lived close to there almost all of my life, and I've gone hiking in dudleytown several times. The origin of it goes back into the late 1500's, with the local Indian tribes fighting with settlers. Then the Dudley family lived there and went crazy from mercury or lead poisoning. There was at least 3 times different families have tried to live there, all with strange deaths, etc. There are so many different telling of the stories that it's really impossible to know exactly what happened.
But I can say the foundations are real. The road through there is real, with an entrance and exit both gated.
Weird stuff goes on in there. Animals go quiet in the area of the foundations, that's absolutely true. The cold air is also true, but I have noticed that in other wooded areas close to there, that also have a small creek. That creek is barely a small stream. There's no way fish could be in it now, so maybe it was bigger back then. But the river bed or washout, whatever you want to call it, isn't big, so I can't picture it being wide enough for fish ever. Plus, that hillside is steep, it's basically the backside of Mohawk Mtn, the local ski hill. Any water coming down that mountain is fast moving. There is a very large river at the bottom of the valley, the Housatonic River. It's more likely any tales of fishing were actually done in the Housy, not the dudleytown stream.
The "Dark Entry" association keeps on real good watch on the 2 spots that give access in there, and they will call the state police, and they will press charges. There is no place to park on either spot, and each entrance is on a small dead end road, with no reason for anyone to be on. So the cops are notified before you even see the gate. I'm high school, we went in there multiple times. One dude took a rock out of one of the foundations, to keep like a souvenir. He crashed his car on the way home. Someone else picked up a rock and threw it to try to see if there were any wildlife near, because we heard nothing. His hand was ice cold for 2 days. Another guy rode a 4wheeler in there, crashed bad, and spent a couple weeks in the hospital. Those stories are 100% true, and there may be a perfect explanation for each one, but it still helps keep the ghost town story going.
It's kind of a shame that it's posted propertie. It's really nice in there, especially in the fall. It would be a great hiking trail, especially with the Appalachian trail so close. It's really cool to see the okd stone foundations of the houses. They are small, but smaller can be better during the cold winters. I was always hoping I'd see a dudleytown story done by McBallen.

Don't go anywhere near that place, also there is something called shetra it is like in that certain vicinity or in that area they have control and power and like they are very powerful in that zone, some places are habited by some energy which people like us cannot see them and feel them only through proper training and meditation such as yoga and real yoga patanjali practices will make you strong enough to see and understand such things also you need to be initiated by a proper guru.
There are things in this world which our eyes can't see 🙈
It is not safe because sometimes they might latch on to you and I don't think so like us Indians practice daily Puja and worship deities that also acts as an protection.
Just don't go baba you never know what might be stalking you and by the time you realise it will be late.
Also ya a Aghori can stay there easily they are just awesome, they practice the vaam marg or we call it the left hand of the divine or practices to reach the gods. Respect them alot 🙏

There was a place I'd frequent near Medford Oregon that had all kinds of no trespassing signs and chains blocking off an entire section of mountain. When I got up I was in a very narrow valley covered in tiny wooden or cinder block buildings. Nothing was very interesting so I didn't stay long but it turns out I'm very lucky to be alive. This was a spot used by the army corps of engineering to test all manner of explosives. Those buildings I wandered in were likely wired to be blown apart or could have collapsed due to prior testing. Don't be stupid. Mind the signs.

MrBallen did not include a couple of things that may help answer some of the questions many of you have. My great aunt, Harriet Clark, is believed to have lost her mind over the incidents that occurred when she was left alone to fend for herself at the cabin. As you may have realized, the "cabin" was really quite substantial by "cabin" definition. It had the upstairs rooms and Uncle Bill had built the cabin with the layout he designed because he knew it would be easier to heat the upper rooms in the winter considering the wood-burning kitchen stove was downstairs. And the stove was substantial and could handle a fairly large amount of wood. . . . . . When Uncle Clark had to leave for those "36 hours", it was actually about 48 hours as when he returned to the cabin to find Aunt Harriet it was actually just before noon. Aunt Harriet was an artist and was always sketching or painting something. And we know from the things she sketched that afternoon right after Uncle Bill left and she returned to the cabin, that very frightening things ensued. . . . . . . . According to her diary entry that very morning, as soon as she returned home she noticed one of their four chickens had been slaughtered right in the pen. She wrote that she "was shocked and stymied at the incident because there was not apparent forced entry into the pen. She noticed a very large "3 toed animal track" right in the middle of the pen. "The track was more than 10 inches from heel to tip of the longest toe." She wrote, "As I stood there pondering that track, I felt like something was tugging very slightly on my dress sleeve but when I quickly turned, there was nothing there." She also wrote, "What kind of animal would kill a chicken, dismember it, and leave it all behind?" We'll never know. . . . . . . . As the afternoon wore on, she made herself a "flat-bread cheese sandwich and sat down at the table to sketch some wild-flowers she had collected and placed in a vase. Realizing the sun is just starting to set and [she] will need a fire in the stove, [she] walked out onto the porch where Uncle Bill had left ample firewood for her to use as needed. She took a few pieces into her arms are started back into the cabin. That's apparently when the real trouble started. She wrote, "I have just had the most eerie experience of my life. As I approached the front door with firewood in my arms, it was very obvious that something was clutching at or grabbing at my left leg just as I approached the threshold. It scared me so much that I dropped the wood as I looked back and down and saw nothing but a shadow. I assume it was my own shadow but the sun is setting west and that's the direction where the shadow was coming from... and right at my leg!" . . . . . . . She didn't write more about that but it was after dark when she mustered the courage to open the door and retrieve the wood that had fallen when she had previously panicked. In her next entry, she wrote, "When I opened the door I could feel a resistance against the door as I pushed it open. I knew it must be a piece of the wood that had fallen against the door but have since realized that couldn't have happened because I had able to close the door. The "resistance" that I felt was not of this earth." . . . . . . . . We know my aunt was very terrified. And we know her usual steady hand was no longer steady because of the way her journal entry was scribbled. We also know from a sketch she had tried to make there at the table apparently after night-fall. . . . . . . . . . . Her final entry was one of horror. At least to her. Maybe she was just freaked out and my grandmother told me Aunt Harriet had always believed in the supernatural and was quite interested in spirits and such. But that night we know this much. When she forced that door open to regather the firewood, there was something terrible outside. And that's why the door was left open ... left ajar and how my uncle found it when he returned. As she realized the horror that was outside that door, she tried to close it but couldn't. As she turned, panicked, she tried to run back towards her table but something had grabbed her and was not letting go. This menacing spirit or thing or whatever it was, had her by the ankle and was pulling her leg. Just like I'm pulling yours. That's right. Pulling your leg. Ever heard anyone say that?! And now you know the rest of the story; at least from my point of view. I once took two car-loads of 10th graders in high school down to my grandfather's grave. I had explained to them that if you stood beside his grave and asked, "Grandpa .... Grandpa .... Grandpa (3 times), "What are you doing?" that he would say "nothing". They made me prove that to them and I did. My sister stood there beside my grandfather's grave and spook to my Grandpa on their behalf. It was late on a summer night. When she asked him what he was doing, he said nothing. Thank you for reading.

For Cornwall residents, Dudleytown is nothing more than a beautiful forest in the southwestern part of town, one of the many breathtaking forests found here. *Dudleytown's residents include families who have lived there for generations without a single supernatural encounter. One resident, in fact, likes to tell the story of when she and her horse were mistaken for ghosts by a large group of trespassing ghost-hunters-the newspaper account the next day declared that she was a spectral figure and that her horse's hoofs never touched the ground.*

Me and a buddy went there about five years ago. Right to the entrance. The road there alone was pretty narrow and all uphill. We took this old truck I had but the thing was pretty reliable. We were contemplating whether or not we should go in, and to be fair I was pretty scared. My buddy being all macho said I’m going in. So from a distance I just watched him making his way through the forest. Out of nowhere we heard this loud branch snapping sound coming from further in the forest, my friend started running back. I was already freaked out so I preemptively put the truck in reverse, and the road was narrow so I had to back into this turn off to spin the truck around. As soon as my buddy hopped in the passenger seat the truck shut off on its own. The thing would not start. We sat there for five minutes trying to get it started. The whole thing was scary. Could it have been a coincidence, sure. But the weird feeling I had being there and the way things played out, not sure I’d ever go back there.

I emailed them once asking why they are so rabidly protective of the area, such as not letting professional film crews in to document the area. They responded and in the first sentence of their response they told me I could NOT go there, no matter who I was lol. Funny thing is in my letter I never asked to go there, I simply asked was why they are so weirdly protective of the place. Their response just made me even more suspicious... You could chalk it up to them being small-town people who don't like tourists, but they call themselves the Dark Entry Forest Association, which is a creepy name.
