    Very informative. Ironically, I'm surprised I haven't seen this mentioned by others all that much in the hoard of raspi-cluster videos out there. once I get a few more peices of equipment, mainly a network switch and some short ethernet cables to start tinkering, I think adding a Nems box to the stack might be a fun little addition.

    Wow! I've been looking for EXACTLY THIS on my raspberry pi. Quick question! Where in the network topology should this live? Direct to your gateway or in any of the switches?
    I currently use pi-hole on my pi 4, but I may just reinstall with NEMS. I wonder if I can install pi-hole on NEMS? or at the very least run it as a docker container?

    Question!
    If this makes sense! I want to get the ten ESP 8266 E2 boards to mine c-coin. One USB power source to one board and daisy chain the power from one board to the next using the GPIOs. These ten ESP boards would then connect to one RPi board using a wlan0 and the RPi board would be connected through eth0 to my home router. None of the ESP boards would directly connected to my network other than that one RPi. I would also like to have NEMS to monitor. Is this possible and if so, how? Thank-you for your time & energy!
    ESP8266 E2 miners; 10x (Arduino)
    RPi 4 (1x) connects to miners; 1x, (Debian-Buster)
    RPi (NEMS monitor) 1x (NEMS)
    1) RPi (#1); NEMS. To monitor multiple SBC’s (1 USB Power Sup.). connected thru eth0 (main router)
    2) RPi 4 (#2) to directly connect (wlan0) ESP8266 E2’s (10x). (1 USB Power Sup.)
    a. ESP8266 E2 miners (duino-coin (10x)) . 1 Power USB Sup. 10 ESP’s powered by daisy chain the others.
    3) RPi 4 (#3) Connects (linked) #2 RPi thru wlan0 to main router eth0.

    • @mrnono23
      @mrnono23 6 років тому +2

      Per docs.nemslinux.com/faq
      Frequently Asked Questions
      My browser warns, "Your connection is not secure". Why?
      NEMS Linux uses SSL (aka https) connections to secure your connection and the data you transmit and receive to and from your NEMS server. This is accomplished using what is called a self-signed certificate. By nature, self-signed certificates are considered “untrusted” by your browser because, simply put, anyone can make them. It does not mean your connection is not encrypted or secure, but rather it means your browser cannot determine who created the certificate, and therefore they cannot verify your security. If you visited a web site, say google.com and received a warning that your connection is not secure, you should immediately stop what you're doing and not proceed. However, in the case of NEMS Linux, which is a local server on your network (not a “dot com” on the web), you can safely trust the self-signed certificates and add an exception to your browser.

    Does it require an active internet connection ? I want to use it for monitoring my Intranet which has no internet connection. Is it possible?

    • @LinuxTechShow
      @LinuxTechShow  5 років тому +1

      Technically an internet connection is required... you'd lose a lot of important functionality if you don't have one, and the interfaces would be a bit broken. Plus none of the notification systems would work (eg. Email) so it kinda defeats the purpose. Can't setup internet connectivity? Perhaps chat with the developer on the NEMS Discord server to see what's possible with some patches.

    • @yogeshsparxsoft

      @@LinuxTechShowThanks for replying.
      We have two separate networks one for internet and other for intranet. We maintain air gap between internet and intranet. It's our policy.

    Dang looks like a great product but holding the working ova hostage until a goal is reached is very offputting

    • @RobbieFerguson
      @RobbieFerguson 6 років тому +1

      Thank you. And please do not misinterpret the need to meet a funding goal to release an OVA. The cost to develop and distribute the OVA is a lot more than I can afford to do without help from the community. Since I will always give away NEMS for free, I feel it is more than fair to at least say "I can't afford to get to this without some funds to back it up". The goal is modest, and I really think once you've experienced NEMS, gotten involved in the support community, and gotten the feel for how things work, you will realize how huge of a project NEMS Linux is. I'm just one guy, and I appreciate all the support of the users. I do not require nor demand it, but it helps me do what I do. So that goal is simply that - to help NEMS grow, it costs money. NEMS is growing pretty much all the time. Check out the changelogs :) I hope you'll give NEMS a chance despite your interpretation of my desire to build our community on Patreon. There is value in becoming a supporter.
