- In the face of persistent territorial tensions in the South China Sea, particularly with China, the Philippines is set to strengthen its maritime defenses. This enhancement will come in the form of five new patrol vessels for the Philippine Coast Guard, a development announced on May 17, 2024.
Manila and Tokyo finalized their largest maritime security project to date, which will see Japan fund the construction of five large patrol ships for the Philippine Coast Guard.

Dapat mga PCG vessel ay lagyan ng pinaka malakas na pressure water canon na malakas pa sa mga tsekwang pangyaw singkit para madaig cla sa lakas. Ng masira rin lahat na gamit sa barko. Mga radar compass mga armas at iba pa para lumubog cla at hahanghap hanghap sa tubig dagat alat.

PN also needs a lot of ships, because most of the old ships ordered by the Philippines are still under construction.

Out of the 5 vessels, 2 were damaged on 26th of Aug 2024. Only 3 are left on duty.

The new five Coast guard from Japan should be arm to be able to defend and can confront the Chinese navy. Since China is already sending navy warship to the west Philippines sea.

These PCG vessels should have adequate standard armaments CG vessels just like those of USCG, SKCG, JCG, VCG, CCG (PRC), TCG (ROC). The PCG is now facing a China Coast Guard that is the constabulary maritime enforcement of the People's Armed Police a component of the Armed Force of China under the Central Military Commission chaired by CCP GS/ PRC President XI Lin Seng. In other words our PCG vessel is facing a military vessel NOT a civilian vessel like ours. China Coast Guard supported by PLA Navy vessels and People"s Armed Force Maritime Militia/Civilian Maritime Militia vessels with the PLA Air Force as back up in any operation, is the main force employed in the South China Sea/West Philippines Sea covered by its illegal nine/ten dash line boundary. The Chinese Coast Guard is tasked by China law to stop intruder vessels within the Nine/ten dash line, as well as arrest the people for 60 days and destroy any structures in it. And in time of war, the Chinese Coast Guard will be part of the wartime military armed force. China is now engaged in gray zone conflict short of shooting war. in West Philippine Sea. But as it is, the PCG coast guard and the PAFMM can immediately be deployed as elements of an assaulting force. I think our government should rethink its old Coast guard diplomacy strategy undertaken through MOU with China during the PRRD administration. China's core interest is the nine/ten dash border in the South China Sea/West Philippine Sea and will not stop its illegal actions until it accomplish it goal. Should we should modernize our coast guard in tandem with the modernization of our AFP and wait for the right moment to come. Betterready than sorry.

Coast Guard ships around the world aren't fitted with Anti Ship or Anti-air missiles, nor Torpedo Launch Tubes, it's kinda like an unwritten rule, but they can be fitted with Naval Guns (75mm, 57mm, or 40mm guns, etc.) and CIWS, just like in the USCG Legend class.
