First off, I never reply to negative trolls, but this video needs some 'splainin. I'm the first to agree that this is my worst playing and wish this video was not posted. That said, you must know the circumstances of this performance: Yotam and I had never played together and were attending the Wes Montgomery Jazz Guitar Competition as audience members (myself as one of the preliminary judges)- there was a situation in that the main artist, Pat Martino, was not able to perform and Yotam and I were tapped from the audience to play his set for him. Neither of us had our guitars and had to grab one from someone there. So if any trolls here feel that 1) they would be the players chosen from the room to represent Pat Martino in his abscence 2) that they would have an amazing performance on a guitar and amp they picked up literally 5 minutes before walking out onto the Merkin Hall stage 3) playing with a colleague for the first time ever, then have at it. For me, this was about as weird of a performance situation as I've ever had and this was about survival, and that said, if this video disappeared from the internet, I'd be extremely pleased! Also, if you would like to continue to be a warring troll, please post your legal name and credentials, that will add weight to your "expertise" on the topic, I'd love to know how you have become an expert! You are also welcome to visit my official UA-cam page here with authorized videos of performances as well.
Sheryl, you are a master of bebop jazz guitar. A subpar performance (from your point of view) won´t change that fact. You should reconsider why it is mandatory to impress jazz audiences and snobs al the time. You weren´t confortable, it was unrealistic that you played up to your standards. Btw, this tune don´t really speak to me, so no matter what you played I probably wouldn´t have enjoyed it THAT much (I love Wes!). Hear this: I once played a wedding with a top dog glam singer and fucked up the chords of his most famous song here and there, which specially in a minimalistic guitar/vocal combo is crazy terrrible. The main reason is the dog was a primadonna that didn´t feel necessary to rehearse the "edited" version he wanted to play at the wedding: so I got confused and unsure about section to play next. But of course, I took all the blame and felt dreaded for months (or years) after. I´m an expert improviser and have mastered many styles under my belt, but my ego was SO heavily bruised for crashing at that "cowboy song" gig. A simple chord chart in front of me would have made a difference. But the moral is you shouldn´t care that much: keep moving, life is short. I´m relatively a nobody, but you are an established bebop guitar master. Laugh at the whole thing, because first 1) is not that bad 2) it represents a minute/insignificant part of your legacy as a musician. Much love.
Sheryl don’t sweat these fools. I remember watching an old vid of Jimi Hendrix literally punching his guitar on stage because in his mind his music wasn’t coming out right. Like it was the guitars fault. To everyone else it was still awesome music, but I felt for him and his frustration. Weird to see Hendrix as a mere mortal in that moment, and a good reminder that everyone is human
What's not to like, two vets are jamming on a tune that's fun to play. The audio not isnt studio quality but no video from this competition is. Visually I learn the tune just watching Yotam hands lol Loved it!
This video should be taken down if the players would like it to taken down, we all have weird/bad gigs and will all have plenty more but it's not fair to have it basically televised if you don't want it to be.
no one handles those fast 2-5s like wes its effortless for him and smooth but no one is wes these people sound great not an easy tune for sure bravo to them
The meaning is scales and transcribe 7 have turned out mostly schooled punks who have no relevance to the art of Jazz! They also are cowards who stand for no social issue usually! They are also economically dependant on others generally as well, especially their women who make more money and have benefits. They are not men generally thus punks hiding behind their instruments!
very strange ... we don't understand your reply; " Many men play real jazz" , or perhaps it that " those darn uppity women just mess up the good manly thing??" This is the 21st century, & Sexism (Racism etc) needs to "stop at the door" "Jazz is a living music". (Dianna Reeves) No one really needs a critic as much as we need the music. Cheer up! You can play however you like, too!
there was a bit of soul, then he got lost in the form as he was listening to how surprisingly (i guess) great she was. You can hear it just as he guffaws to the crowd, he stumbles and *boom* he's lot and he doesn't recover until they start trading fours in the last couple of minutes! I hear ya!
On a scale of zero to minus ten of atrocious intepretations of Four On Six this performance goes all the way to minus Eleven. How can I begin to describe just how bad this re-interpretation of Wes's classic tune is ??? I'll start like this ..... SLOW DOWN
Fantastic! Wes Montgomery's wonderful legacy lives!

Your worst playing?! I'd give anything to play *half* as well as you do on this recording. You're the Bodhisattva of Bop.
Cheryl Bailey please there is no need to explain yourself. You are the exact expression of the jazz guitarist
@@EricNorstrom HALF? Many, I'd be happy to play one quarter as well as Sheryl does on what she considers a sub-par performance. Wow!

what the fuck is the point of commenting negatively about people who are so good? These are serious cats man, give em a listen.
Yep it is an ES 446... owned one for 2 months but the rosewood fretboard had shrinking issues so sold it asap.
mine is fabulous . I love it. No issues. light as a feather, & great tone. More to the point, what kind of wireless is he using?

GREAT playing. LOVED it!!! I need to check out Yotam further.
Jeez, I wish I could play that badly!
Some serious Jazzing going on right here.
I don't get it, the playing is good, nothing extravagant but still good. Wes will always live!
no one handles those fast 2-5s like wes its effortless for him and smooth but no one is wes these people sound great not an easy tune for sure bravo to them
Not great acoustics for this type of music ,it needs dead walls to soak up the reverb ,,apart from that great stuff ,
These folks need the Big Ax book to learn walking bass properly.
lots of notes! Where is the soul?
A coulple of letters in your post, where is the meaning?

L. Harrison Listen to the Best old school Black men and women. They are by far the best! Looks like your a schooled nerd who doesn't have a clue!

Very bad wes is only him..

You can't reach this level of jazz neither in 100 years and keep talking. Of course it is way easier for losers
Whatever :)
please post a video of yourself playing this tune with someone you've never met so I can copy your comment and paste it to that video.
