After some constructive critism, I have determined that I have changed my mind about the OSCC. You can get an HTB Academy annual Silver subscription for $490. Which includes your choice of CPTS, CBBH, or CDSA cert voucher. You can then spend an additional $210 for each subsequent cert. So if you really buckle down, you could get THREE HTB certs for $910 in a year's worth of training. Heck, even just one cert for $490 is a better deal then paying $899 for OSCC. So I was completely wrong with this video when I said it's the best cert for beginners. I failed to compare this to the HTB offering because I never classified HTB certs at "entry level", and now I look dumb lol So SORRY to all my followers who expect me to bring them accurate information. I will do more/better research going forward. Please forgive me. You can expect me to make a correction video next month, highlighting that the HTB Academy offering is actually a better deal. Sometimes you're right, and sometimes you're wrong. Today I was wrong. With that being said, I still think OSCC is a better value than the CompTIA cert stack.
As someone who's completed the comptia trifecta with googleCert, and am doing the HTB CDSA modules, you can also pay HTB monthly student rates, or, normal ~1-2 month Platinum, then Silver, just for the Pwnbox usage, and buy the exam voucher when you're ready. Roughly the same price as a comptia cert, plus examples/training/hands-on labs, minus step-by-step module solutions from the annual price. Don't need the 500 upfront necessarily this way, more like 300 over time, especially as a beginner and/or if you're only planning on doing a single HTB path (eg CDSA). If you really need the step by step solutions, you'll be better off doing TryHackMe Blue team (?) from what I've heard as those modules do much more hand-holding, but from research HTB CPTS is respected and CDSA is likely to be as well.
Yeah I think the HTB certs are soon to be some of the most well respected in the industry, assuming they keep the content fresh and they keep going their amazing marketing.
Hey guys im currently taking the OSCC course and from first hand experience I can undoubtedly say for a newcomer in cybersecurity who was bouncing from guide to guide video to video trying to self learn this is the BEST by far. It’s structured from teaching the basics and building upon those basics to the advance material. Price tag is high yes but for all the materials in the course and how they break it down for someone new it is well worth it if you are SERIOUS and set on building a career in cybersecurity.
Kyser, well done video. Curious of your opinion regarding the sec-100/OSCC vs HTB CBBH or CPTS. I have attempted HTB academy and find their training poor. It’s a ton of reading with no videos to break up the monotony. Is the OSCC training better or similar to HTB from a style perspective? Totally get HTB is more cost effective but I’d pay more for a better learning experience. Curious of your thoughts. Also would OSCC prepare me to get started in Bug Bounty Hunting if I wanted to try that? Thanks
I'm glad you like the video. As you said, OSCC has videos and HTB does not. Which is a huge difference. I do think OSCC is a good entry level certification that would help you get started in Bug Bounty Hunting if you wanted to do that. But you'll have to go after CBBH, OSWA, or PJWT after that...
Would you say this is comparable to the Google Cybersecurity Certificate? Or would you recommend someone getting into cybersecurity to get the Google Cert first? Curious how this compares and which is best. Thanks so much!
Good Question. I would stay far away from the Google Cybersecurity Certificate. I haven't seen a single job posting asking for it, and it's not really talked about in a whole bunch. Personally, It seems like a mediocre certification. OSCC isn't comparable to the Google Cybersecurity certification because the OSCC is hands-on and practical and not multiple choice. I don't have the Google Cybersecurity Certification so I don't know how it really is, but there is a reason why I don't have it and have no plans on going after it either. Security+ > Google Cybersecurity Certificate
@@shanejohnson9352 You could do a hybrid appraoch. Do Security+ to start out, as it's very well recognized, maybe throw in a Pentest+ or CySA+ (depending on if you want to do Offense or Defense) then get OSCC. I need to make another video to really clarify my position on this. It is hard to lay out a definitive path right now. I did the CompTIA route, if that helps you, but HTB certs and OSCC didn't exist when I started in the field. Overall, I don't think there is a wrong choice here, the wrong choice is doing nothing. Just choose something, and stick with it. Anything is better than nothing. They are all good options.
Maybe. Sec+ and CySA+ combined is about the same price as OSCC but it you won't get the basic pentesting skills if you go this route. I think OSCC is better bang for your buck compared to multiple CompTIA certs. But HTB Academy annual silver subscription is probably the best bang for your buck from what I can see today.

Great insights. Thanks for sharing your experience! :)

Ah yes, I was wondering about this. Seemed liked the answer to CompTIA Sec+
Glad I can provide you some info you needed. Let me know if you get OSCC. Thanks for watching and commenting. :)
Great content. You earned a sub! 😅
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching and subscribing! :)
oscc is so expensive, getting sec+ and cysa+ will give you more opportunity and cheaper than getting oscc.
