You’re the best storyteller and the squeeze smell is on point. I can almost smell my 82’ Ludwig’s that I regrettably sold. I’d buy that cologne if they made it..
I started on a red sparkle MIJ I used my Christmas money to buy off my friends bother for $150 in around 83, then bought a new wine red export in 86/87 for $550 with hardware. Had that into the 90's as well. I do exactly what you're saying I have my "slush" fund, almost everything I own at this point is profit lol
Remember back in the day on WGN TV in Chicago …. The Show “ Family Classics” with Frazier Thomas … Terry ..you remind me of him and his storytelling style when it comes to these stories of buying vintage drums Lol 😝! Thanks 🙏 for sharing your stories with us crazy collectors and fans alike who love ❤️ vintage drums! 🥁
Hey Terry, nice to finally know your name... wherever you are in the world, man it would be great to sit down, have a drink or whatever, and have a chat with you. Fascinating man. Fascinating.
Always enjoy this chats. Buddy of mine has one of those snares too......he let me borrow it for a few years....boy, it was a great drum....well, still is. It could make people who didn't really know how to hit a snare properly sound like they knew how to hit a snare properly. and here's to buying vintage drums in the 80s! I've still got a 65 Slingerland kit that I bought in 1986 for $100.
Speaking of Pearl, the MLX kit's, WOW! I had a BLX for years and decided I didn't fully appreciate that birch sound, so set off on an maple of the same range trek to sonic perfection (well my taste, anyway. I bought recently a Super Pro GLX kick 22x16" all maple and lacquered on the interior as well, in cherry stain lacquer, recently, then a DX pro 13x11" birch outer with a mahogany core AND finished in the same cherry colour stain and lacquered both sides as well, I'm thinking I'm on a roll here!! I do have a odd Premier Signia snare, same colour and finish AND a Premier XPK 16" floor tom again same finish, so I sorta have another great set and it does sound absolutely phenomenal by the way. Was looking on Rusty drums online, the UK side of their operations has a Pearl MLX in black wrap, full set with a shallow tom config. Typical!! They're asking around £850 for a 6 piece set. Not too bad over here in today's market, quality considered of equivalent set's of the same era. Great videos as usual!!
@@bonzoleum can't say I have mate no, I've seen a couple but not up close, they're another set that I'd like to try out but they're rarity puts that one in the realms of, good luck with that'.
I recovered a butcher block early 70's Rogers 3 ply kit in gold sparkle. Got the kit for $400. 24x14, 10, 12, 16, 18. The wrap cost $400. So, wanted to add another 24" ...(veering from Bonham to Alex Van Halen a little) The extra 24 was like $300....and bought the wrap to match. When I got the 24" one of the hoops was warped, so I found one on Ebay for another $100. So I'm like $1200 to $1300 in on that....... I priced a new Ludwig legacy in that configuration......$6400.....
My what feels to be old time friend, you were the reason I got really hooked to drums at around 13 I am 26 now. Through the archive that is bonzoleum; I discovered B8 vintage metal, how to read music without reading music, was the reason I brought the Joe Caustais drumming fundamental books, from someone you've never met but influenced very highly with the art of drumming, thankyou bonzoleum
The whole 200 prototypes....its total bs. They still pop up. There was probably a thousand. If you can go find one, today,online...then its not that rare. Not as rare as word of mouth legend speaks of
Have you ever heard of ADAM drums? Just traded a cheap ass Ludwig wooden snare for this un known steel snare?? It has a tone control knob on the top head.. not bad quality I must say..js 🤔🥁🤓
Take this on the road. Bring it to London. “An evening with Terry Keating”. 👌😎
Only 6:06 in and my wife's hollerin' from the other room "What's so funny in there?" Bring 'em by the studio and we'll do the olfactory test. 🤣

Now those 80s Pearl Exports ARE vintage drums, haha. Great sounding kits too!
Yes they are now! The eighties to now is what the forties were to the eighties.

Funny that there is virtually NO trace of Tradin' Times on the Internet.
Was hoping to find a photo.
