Having struggled with fitting taps to a bath using one of these spanners and finding it was a useless tool I looked forward to seeing this video. The video turned out to be even more useless than the tool.

Showing people how to use a tap spanner without showing people how to use a tap spanner defies logic

What a waste of effort! Plenty of music to bop to...plenty of images of how to snap the spanner open and shut. But as for offering any sort of help to clueless amateurs like me, forget it. Perhaps combining castinets with Spanish folk music might be more up his street?

When I heard the term "tap spanner", I assumed it had something to do with cutting new threads with a tap and die set. Over here in the Colonies, we refer to that tool as a basin wrench. They're often handy in tight spaces under a sink or toilet, but sometimes the head is too large to fit in the space available. That happened to me a few years back while I was changing out the kitchen faucet set. It stopped me cold, as I assumed it would fit before I started. I eventually ended up at Sears in the tool department; I left with a set of crowsfoot wrenches (ten SAE heads for around $49.99). This set had wrench heads that were shaped like the open end of a typical combination wrench. I came home and used the 7/8" head with a ratchet and a long extension to reach up and remove the nut I couldn't loosen earlier. Problem solved.

What the F%!%? He doesn't show how to use it. All he does is open it, close it , flip it, open it, close it, flip it. Really ?

I think the next bit is self explanatory, you tighten or loosen the fittings???

ha ha after watching many times you'll see it's a sliding bar at the bottom. Not the best design in confined spaces but if you have room it's ok.

ok so what's on the other end to drive it? a spanner? a ratchet? the tool looks great but you need to show the full operation

What a waste of two minutes. Did not show how to use the tool, only put it in place.

What everyone was expecting was for you to show what you actually do to loosen or to tighten... do you simply twist the rod etc ?
25 years experience, but you should stick to the day job and leave teaching to someone that can explain the whole thing.
