NEW Primordial Opening Weekend Experience Ride POV - Lagoon Amusement Park

Construction started on Primordial in 2018, with leaked rumors of its name from a trademarked filed from Lagoon. In September 2019, the park revealed this ride would have a footprint 30% larger than that of Cannibal.
The ride opened to the public on September 15, 2023.
Primordial has 2 cars per train, each seating a max of 8 riders. Each car features onboard audio, as well as a controlled rotation, facing towards the screens in its dark-ride portions, and backwards during its second coaster portion.
The finale of the ride consists of three possible endings, a vertical drop track, and a backwards or forwards drop. This version you're watching contains the vertical drop track ending.
Ahead of the grand opening, Julie Freed - director of special events for Lagoon - led a press conference detailing the new ride, saying many of Primordial’s features haven’t been seen anywhere else in the amusement park industry.
“This one-of-a-kind, interactive coaster has been in development since 2015,” she said. “We’ve named it Primordial, which means, ‘from the beginning of time.’ In the Primordial setting, the storyline that you will follow as you journey through this ride is completely custom, unlike anything you have seen before.”
She said the ride is nearly five-minutes long and even briefly detailed the ride experience.
“(Each train) seats eight riders - four riders or adventurers per cart,” she said. “Each seat is fitted with a blaster. These are used to interact with enormous gameplay screens throughout the ride. There are over 5,000-square-feet of projection screens used to make the gameplay come to life. Individual screens inside the train show color-coordinated scores for each rider. As the train comes back into the station, the final score of all riders will be displayed so that you can compare your score with the other riders in your group. If you are a top player, your score will be displayed in the hall of fame monitors for all to see as you exit the ride.”
As a result of its interactive nature, she said, each ride of Primordial is unique. The roller coaster has a maximum speed of 40 mph.
Primordial may mean “from the beginning of time,” but to some, it seemed like a lot of time to get to the moment of its opening.
Freed said a lot came down to the unique nature of the ride itself, along with global events.
“Everything is new,” she said. “The trains are new. This is all the most current technology. … We also lost an entire year due to COVID, and that changed the landscape for our industry as well as every other industry. So we’re happy to open it today.”
As a result of Primordial’s arrival late in the year, Freed said the park is doing something it has never done in the past to reward this year’s season pass holders, many of which may have bought their passes for this specific ride.
“We are offering our 2023 season passport holders exclusive ride time,” she said. “They can come to the park or make a reservation - we just sent out an email this morning - Monday through Thursday until the end of the season. With the exception of UEA weekend (Oct. 19) because we’re open on Thursday, we’re opening the ride from 4-8 p.m. The rest of the park will be closed just so they can come and get their ride time.”
Freed said the 70,000-square-foot mountain that houses the vast majority of the ride contains 10,000 pieces of steel.
“One hundred percent of the structural steel was fabricated here in Utah,” she said. “This includes the mountain steel, the nearly 2,000 feet of ride track and the 94 track columns.”
She added that local material and construction made up the bulk of the ride, even beyond steel.
“We are pleased to say this project has been developed using local Utah suppliers for 75% of the ride,” she said. “We have also worked with the best in the amusement industry for the design of the roller coaster and interactive elements.
Freed said as long as guests meet the 36-inch height minimum for safe riding, it’s for everyone.
“This is a family ride,” she said. “Unlike Cannibal, we wanted this ride to be available for almost everybody.”

No!! I really want to though!
I’ve rode about 30 times as a test rider
Just rode it today

Let me remind everyone, lagoon built this ride in house! Respect to the engineering team
Art Engineering made the trains and the ride program, and screens and the music and the special effects
Just because they are the overall general contractor doesn't mean they actually built it. They just paid others to actually manufacture it.

@@5MadMovieMakers easily the drop track ending, the slide track is pretty fun, but the drop track is just, so good
All this from a park that's NOT Disney, Universal, Busch Gardens or even Six Flags! This is BEYOND a job well done and the spiritual successor to its closest experience, Wonder Mountain's Guardian at Canada's Wonderland! Wish my local Six Flags park in the Chicago area here had the guts to try and build something like this, closest they have is a Sally Dark Ride Justice League attraction......
And it’s crazy that they built it by themselves
I work at Lagoon (in restrooms) and got to ride it twice prior to opening. There are 2 different drops, and 8 different endings. The second drop, isn't straight down, it tilts you backwards about 45 degrees and slides you backwards and down, and is, in my opinion, far scarier than the simple drop.
What I'm really saying is, this in not a "ride once" coaster.
Actully their are 32 endings bwxause differnt screens and you can drop in differnt directions and all sorts of stuff
Aw man I didn’t know that! I only rode it once I’ll have to ride it multiple times in one day. Just the wait is brutal in the sun. The whole locker situation really slows the line down.
Kudos to Lagoon that they're including the queue as part of the experience and not just the ride itself. Queue helps with the build up of the ride. They have been taking notes from Disney and Universal.
No they dont have an IP to base it on so they need to create their own story unlike Disney/Universal.
Bravo Lagoon! You are Upping your own game, literally. this ride looks fantastic and i think it's safe to say, Lagoon should be a destination park if it wasn't already. Hope to see you soon!
Looks like an extremely solid addition to the park. A great ride mixing multiple technologies and ride systems. The drop at the end was unexpected. But that's a great way to end the ride. It looks fun. It's not mind blowing or anything but I don't think it was intended to be.
The in-house engineering behind this ride amazes me. A job well done! We are lucky to have Lagoon!
My one hope is that this isnt the last of it, i think it would be astonishing to see them add more to this area and other rides in general with heavier theming. Its like knoebels with a bigger budget tbh
Wow! I see why it took a while to build! Wasn't expecting it to be rollercoaster/dark ride. I think it works very well and the theming was well done.
Impressive addition for Lagoon, stepping up their game (no pun intended). What I say next I say with love, they're almost there but need a little more help in the interior design department. So very close but the details and finishes and paint choices aren't quite there yet. As a themed designer, I wish I could hire in and complete the vision for them.
They could add more theming during the off-season
Short but sweet. I don't mind the length of actual (coaster movement; not speaking about dark ride elements) This looks absolutely phenomenal, and the fact that it was built in house just keeps proving that Lagoon although not as big a park as some of these others in the industry still manages to pump out original, and exciting content for enthusiasts and general public alike. This is such a gem in a world full of titans such as magic mountain, Disney, and universal. I cant wait to travel to lagoon to really finally appreciate the charm that I see on videos. I truly hope that it delivers (park itself). When I travel to different parks I have an average expectation and I try not to set it high. I can say of the 30 parks Ive been to. There was 2 parks I had incredibly high expectations for and that was Cedar Point, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas and they both met my expectations. Other than that I go with just the excitement of being able to raise my coaster credits. CANT WAIT!
I’m impressed. That’s a nice long full immersive experience with multiple elements. It took a long time but it looks like it’s worth it. I can’t wait to get back out there to Utah!
Let it be said here: the ride is WAY better in person. The video doesn't do the 3D effects enough justice. Lagoon clearly put a lot of effort into this ride.
Wow! This feels like it should’ve been a ride for Evermore - and yes I feel like Evermore should’ve been more focused on rides than just roleplay. I guess Lagoon has more tricks up it’s sleeves than I thought!
Phenomenal job Lagoona! Happy to see this created in house.
It looks like a more flushed out version of Wonder Mountain’s guardian at Canadas wonderland. Let’s just hope they don’t deal with the disastrous technical issues plaguing wonderland with their Triotech system and mountain drop track. Wonderland is my home park and Wonder Mountain’s Guardian is by far the biggest let down at the park...
I think Guardians was a letdown (for me too) because the coaster section was virtually non-existent and the dark ride section had no story. The drop track was amazing though. This looks SO MUCH better.
I was actually a test rider since I am a employee so I rode it 8 times and have gotten both endings the owl and the dragon. The I rode first shirts employees can get are different than the ones in the shop, the ones employees also say This one is for you Davey
It’s about time this thing opened up, and it looks just as beautiful as we thought!
I figured i wasnt going to be able to ride this due to having epilepsy so im glad someone filmed it so i can see it 🙂
Hmmmm. The Que is bad ass and love the giant cat. But they way the ride goes around the mountain is weird. It needs a giant water fall coming off the side of the mountain soooooooooo bad!!! It would of made it look so much better! Needs more outdoor and more coaster parts. Interesting ride, I really hope people love it.
It will have a waterfall next year
The ride almost got to universal level theming.. wow😮
Well considering NONE of their rides have a theme, they had to step up to stay relevant.
This is awesome!! They should do something like this at Disney or Universal! What a great ride for a local park!
the harry potter ride at universal is just like it but better
Hagrid's Motorbike Ride was the first drop coaster. It's a great ride if you've never been on it.
Considering it isn't Disney or Universal it looks pretty good. The one thing that could be enhanced was the inside sounds. It seemed pretty quiet considering all the shooting and creatures.
It's a lot better in person. The sound especially at the end is amazing.
I’m not sure why people are hating on this ride, this is one of the best rollers coasters I’ve been on. The theme, the queue, the atmosphere all put a great spin on the ride. The best part is the finale. Hope y’all get a chance to ride it soon!
The only people hating on it are either people who were expecting the next Cannibal, or Disney parents who were expecting a high class Dark Ride in the same level as Star Wars Rise Of Resistance. For a family owned Park such as Lagoon, and especially compared to other parks around the nation, its a pretty fantastic addition.
It's a great ride, but it being one of the best you've been on doesn't hold much meaning since you probably haven't gone to many amusement parks outside of Lagoon.
Seeing people complain about primordial seriously bothers me lol, it’s a really great ride
I think it's just the fact that it was hyped up so much and took all of about 5 years, being 2+ years late. Had they not hyped if up so much, been even close to being on time or both, no one would be disappointed
@@patrickn8355 to be fair, the Ride being two years late wasn't the Parks fault, it was covids.
I love the concept! Looks like pure fun and something the kids will rave about
This ride looks so amazing!!!
super impressed! Love the improvement on wonder mountains guardian. Probably would've liked no shooting (personal preference) or better visuals for the shooting.
But seriously a LOT of stuff going on!
If this ride is also able to be fairly reliable and open most of the time then thats even more impressive
Really like the theming in the queue. Really atmospheric.
Ive had one since it released. My favorite mod was swapping that silly seatpost for a dropper post with an under the seat lever.
It is my new favorite ride of all time!
This ride was so cool! I rode it for the first time today. I was not prepared for the surprise at the end I literally spit all over myself lol
Looks like a great family addition hopefully more parks build things like this
Rode this yesterday. Great ride
If I wanted to shoot at things I would go to the arcade but if I’m riding a coaster I definitely wouldn’t want any pauses or anything like that just a straight ride
This looks amazing!
This ride really does remind me of Wonder Mountain Guardian at Canadas Wonderland with the outdoor mountain section, the screen based shooting portions and of course the surprise ending.... I personally am a fan of WMG at CW so this looks like a better version of that ride. The backwards section looks like a lot of fun too!
I feel like Wonderland got the Wish version of Primordial, even though it came out first.
I didn’t know it opened yet, it looks great!
We thought that this ride was AWFUL and such a HUGE letdown.
Richard
Bro lagoon is my fav place to go for thrilling rides, plus, a water park? Come on, it’s even better then Disney, only cause of all the thrilling loops. And they built and designed like all of their rides, without any inspiration from any other, and, not to mention, cannibal has some of the most upside down loops in America
Very well done..!
I work there and was one of the first 20 people to actually ride it. So cool to see it in full effect
Looks like a fantastic ride from the brick structure que line, to the story telling animatronics lots of video walls with interactive game, smoke machines and a surprise drop track.
Holy crap, this is so impressive!!!
Thanks for posting! Looks interesting... just curious, how long was your wait? Looked like approx. an 1.5+ hr wait or so(?)
I went last sunday and it was 2 hours long. That was a whole week after opening. I assume the wait here was 3+ hours long.
I can't wait to work as a ride operator on this in a couple weeks. First time working at Lagoon. I'm 46😂 Only weekends until June though. They don't pay enough 😂
Been on it twice with both endings. Great ride.
This is a lot like Wonder Mountain's Guardian at Canada's Wonderland, but much, much better. Capacity will probably be terrible though.
Lagoon loves capacity, so this was built with 10 Trains.
EPIC!!!
I am so exited for that ride, you are so lucky
One of my rides in tpt2 was named Primordial, but it’s actually “Primordial: The Fatal Impact”
What a cool looking coaster!
This reminds me of an Indiana Jones adventure tbh, this ride is just SO EPIC AND AMAZING!
Was not expecting a drop track
There is both a Slide Track and a Drop Track.
Hey what's up we were the people in front of you in line today great job on the video!!!
Man I was not expecting Lagoon to go this hard on theaming.
Omg, that line of people!! That's insane. This park is going to need a skip the line /fast pass system soon. Some of the lines there get too long .
Yeah... I really wish they had put all that time and money toward a better attraction than an over-engineered arcade game with a lift hill.
This looks much better than the version at Wonderland that we have!
I remember when Colosis was built! It was the new big thing 😮wow I'm old! I use to pay $50 for a summer pass! I still have my lagoon pass card!
Honestly, it was under construction for so long, I forgot it was even being built, let alone that it would actually open now or all times.
Very well done for being Lagoon.
We have reservations to ride it today!
How’d you like it? I haven’t been to lagoon for the last couple years.
For a ride made in house by lagoon, I am very impressed.
I thought that this was just a Rollercoaster didn't expect the minigames!
Wow. well done, Lagoon.
This looks like a really solid addition and a great step in the right direction. They're 90% of the way there, but there are still some areas that clearly could use some work -- for instance the room at 4:55 completely breaks riders' immersion by being a completely blank/empty box.
What Lagoon usually does over time in terms of rides with theming like this is open them with some and then add more as time goes on, and that is the beginning of the ride after all, it’s excusable
@@AiakTycoons not to mention their halloween events. they could definitely get some good use out of this.
@@AiakTycoonsAlot of European parks do this too. I am more than okay with this.
So basically they were inspired by a bunch of Disney and Universal rides, combined them into one, slapped on a new theme, and here we go. Hagrid's Motorbike Ride, Men in Black, I see you here.
Awesome ride but I wouldn't wait in that line on opening day, I'd wait a few weeks for it to simmer down
This is cool
This is only one of the six endings. The ending I got when I rode was that I freed a giant owl
I think it’s too “roller coaster and then dark ride” and not “dark ride roller coaster”. That being said, I’m holding this to standards I hold rides like Cosmic Rewind and Gringotts - for being at a family owned theme park in *literal* Farmington UT this is absolutely insane - especially for being completely designed in house
Looks fun but how long until those guns are broken off from people holding on during the coaster part?
I say a year, so maybe 3 years given its going to be closed most of the year due to weather.
So......the Nintendo Zapper on a slow moving roller coaster? 😂
So it's a roller coaster and rail shooter video game all in one. Interesting concept.
The rollercoaster part seems kind of underwhelming. The lift is longer than the coaster. It just seems like they could have done more if they removed that part. The rest of it looks really great though
My kids love Lagoon
What’s with dr strange bobcat lady
There needs to be a sign at the beginning that says, "Please don't blink or you may miss the experience."
Not yet ready yet I’m waiting line down trying it I’m

I’m waiting new ride next year in lagoon 2024
Family ride or water ride
This looks better than Wonder Mountain's Guardian
Because nothing says thrill ride like moving 1mph and starting at a wall.
This ride was never advertised as a thrill ride. It has a 36 inch height requirement.
Yhis is awesome
Looks super fun!!! I'll take cannibal and colossus tho. 😂😂
This ride makes me appreciate Verbolten a lot more.
Agreed, Its a family launch coaster that is done well and not to extreme but fun. But Willamsburg, is a park known for culture and tailoring to it. Like putting the it in the dark forrest in Germany section of the park because of the folklore around the dark forrest.
cool
It’s very similar to Wonder Mountain’s Guardian at Canada’s Wonderland.
But way better
the late owner of the park ( he died on Christmas Eve! 😓) was riding thru Wonder Mountain and was inspired to create his own version here in Utah. Sad he didnt quite get to see it finished.. The daughter, Julie freed mentioned above, is now the one taking the dream to it's conclusion
Dose it like drop down
Wait, it's opening finally? Huh, had no clue. Cool stuff. Looks kind of lame honestly. Something decent for the whole family but nothing amazing. Drop track was pretty nice though. Just needs a little more coaster to it.
Agreed. I haven't been on it but just from watching these videos there's not much rollar coater to it. Probably would be a lot better with more coaster to it. This definitely isn't worth waiting hours and hours for, not a all day waiting thing.
There is a Slide Track and a Drop Track. Nothing like this ride on the entire planet.
@@sidvernon6343Mission Ferrari
There's tons of drop tracks. And not sure about slide tracks but whatever. It's still more Gringotts like coaster/dark ride than a roller coaster. Which is a bummer.@@sidvernon6343

2 million percent better. Not even close to the same ride.
Personally my kids have a rough time with rollercoasters. Much like I did as a kid. I think this would be a fun one to take.them on.
What about the owl ending?
Little more faux work around the screens and entrances and I would say this ride would be Universal Level. Don’t @ me. I wouldn’t be surprised if other parks reach out to this engineering team.
