I get the attraction to luxury brand makeup. I can’t afford a Chanel bag but there is something about applying a Chanel blush (even if it is more expensive than a drugstore brand), it makes me feel special. I can only afford one however, so I wear it everyday I wear makeup. I also love Saks’ beauty department as well. When I worked in the city, my office was down the street and lunchtime would sometimes be costly, but fun!
Hello Michele :) A huge thank you for collaborating with me on this video! ❤️ I have to agree about the Givenchy eyeshadows. They really are the worst luxury eyeshadows that I've tried. xoxo
If I could have only one category of luxury makeup for the rest of my life, it would definitely be lipstick! It’s the quintessential feminine accessory I can take anywhere and apply anytime. It never fails to lift my spirits and also doubles as blush 😊 love you Michele. Tags are so fun!
“Desiccated husk of a person” i laughed so hard that I spit my coffee all over myself!!! I loved this video! You are so charming and lovely. I also loved your answer for how you would spend $200 if that’s all you had to spend. Absolutely great video!
Years ago I had a full set of Bobbi Brown brushes and I thought they were the sh*t. That is until I purchased my first Japanese Fude brush from Hakuhodo, the S121, which is blue squirrel. That brush changed everything for me in terms of tools. I ended purchasing most of their eye brushes from the S100 series and I’m also fully into Sonia G’s brushes. I have all of her brushes and they are game changers. Loved this video Michele…I’m hopping over to Angela’s channel right after this one.
I have one Bobbi brown bronzer brush and it is so horrible! It pokes me everytime I use it and my non sensitive skin becomes very sensitive... Hakuhodo brushes are a dream to use with!!!
Start at Nordstrom if you’ve got one near you! I’ve found they’re nicer and have a mix of brands at lots of price points- from Clinique to Sisley. They also have lots of minis so it’s easy to try things.
I totally agree what Michelle said about niche perfumes vs cheaper ones - the lack of complexity. For years I was so utterly bored and disappointed when smelling perfumes at regular department stores - most of the scents smelled like lazy clones of each other. Luckily, I discovered the possibility of ordering discovery sets from niche brands and I've been much happier since, scent-wise. :) E.g., the MFK discovery set - such a great value for money!!
I absolutely loved this video and hearing your insight! Being in my 20s/in grad school, I am definitely in that phase where I can't afford a designer handbag or shoes so I treat myself to little pieces of makeup.
Michele, I loved this down to earth, not product-focused, personalized peek into your personality. You have such a stunning aura about you-the way you speak, act, etc. - while witty and funny in the most gentle ways.. I really enjoyed this video, and I sure hope to see more of 1 on 1 chit chat type content from you! Even with most of your content being about luxury makeup that I can't even dream of sampling anytime soon, this made me feel so much more relatable to you, hearing about your makeup fails :)
Michele we need more personal or story time content. I don't wear makeup but I come back every video for you. (You did get me into luxury skincare) You have such a great laid back elegance about you and I could listen to you tell stories all day. You have had a very exciting and varied life and it's just interesting as hell. Lol
I have actually tried the Givenchy eyeshadows in a 9 pan, those are said to have been reformulated, and I picked the purple/brown/grey palette (another one was black/grey/white metallic type of color story, also pretty), it came out a couple of summers ago, and it is very good quality 😉 have no idea about their other palettes and take your word for it. Their blushes used to be really good, I hd a blush palette ages ago, I loved it.
Great video! I have always been into luxury skincare, but you have really inspired my love of luxury makeup and the importance of good quality brushes. I’ve heard that drugstore makeup has really improved, probably out of necessity in terms competition from retailers like Sephora and Ulta, but I too get overwhelmed shopping drugstore and have trouble selecting products I cannot test. I also just love the experience of luxury product; the packaging, texture and quality makes it even more enjoyable. Let’s face it, the instant gratification from in-store shopping is great, but opening a beautifully boxed luxury makeup delivery (samples included of course) is so exciting (who doesn’t like a good ole fashion unboxing video). I also think online shopping takes away the fear/intimidation of walking into a high-end store.
Good morning my friend ❤️. This was beyond enjoyable to watch. I think your mascara comments was spot on and agree on the foundation too. I feel that luxury makeup and skincare is just made better and I have tried drugstore and I don’t like it. I’m tied between Chanel and Chantecaille on being my favorite. You are always the best. Love ya ❣️
Thank you, Michele. I follow you and Angela. I think you are both very accurate and informative. I've been using luxury makeup and skin care since I was 16. And I agree with you in every single world. You are so competent and classy. Thank you so much for the information you share with us.
Your last story about the concealer and the liquid lipstick is so relatable because it’s EXACTLY what happened to me. I’ve always worn makeup and I did a decent enough job with it, but I wanted to up my makeup game, so I started watching UA-cam tutorials in my early 40s (probably around 2017). I’ve never really used concealer, so I bought what the influencer recommended and did what they did and when I looked in the mirror after I set it with powder I couldn’t believe how much older I looked! It had aged me 20 years! I swore off concealer after that and, to this day, I still don’t use it. I don’t have dark circles really, so I don’t really need it, thankfully. And I will never wear liquid lipstick again after I tried it out a few times back then either. Sure, it stays on for a long time, but it sucks every once of moisture from my lips and when it finally does wear off (like if I were to eat), you can’t reapply it without completely removing it or it looks terrible. And it doesn’t just dry your lips while you’re wearing it! My lips would be dry for days afterwards. So I might need to try concealer again eventually, but nothing could ever compel me to try liquid lipstick ever again.
I love your videos and your accent too. I follow you from Italy 🇮🇹 and I find yours one of the clearest pronunciation ever, which makes watching your videos even more enjoyable
100% agree on Sak’s online shopping upping their game. They must’ve taken control of their fulfillment center (s). Sak’s is kind of my go-to now for a lot of online beauty and fragrance purchases because of this-and because they throw discounts my way quite often.
I loved this so much. I had nars copacobana, too, and am now tempted to go buy it again. Nars and Mac were my gateway drugs. I love Angela-her calm, lovely presence and thoughtful commentary-and can’t wait to watch hers.
Talk of drugstore makeup reminded me of how much I enjoyed your drugstore video a few Mishmases ago! I was so tempted last fall to send you a box of things in case you wanted to do film another but I talked myself out of it. That said, I think there's a lot of stuff out now that you would enjoy. L'Oréal's done a lot with their Age Perfect lineup, plus their True Match Hyaluronic Serum Foundation, Revlon's Rose Glow products, e.l.f.'s Putty Blush and Bronzers and their Wow Brow Gel (with fibers!), Flower Beauty's glowy complexion products, No7's hydraluminous range... The list goes on and on!
This video really reaffirmed why I like your channel, I really admire the way you review luxe brands and giving your honest feedback is in point. I’m not interested in the Vlogs but this type, omg, I love it. Thanks Michele
Yes all your recommendations on foundation since I do have mature skin I am so happy with I just ordered the chantecaille cushion foundation can't wait to use it but all your other recommendation my friends keep asking me now did I have work done my skin goes now thank you so much
Oh and please keep talking about the brushes you use the size the different kinds and why believe it or not you are helping us know what to use and why thank you so much
Brushes! I started investing in high quality brushes after finding your channel years ago. And it totally changed everything about makeup. Thank you for this and all the other helpful content.
Loved this video. But then I look forward to and enjoy all your videos. Drugstore brands have definitely improved over the year. However, I find that, as I have aged, luxury brands seem to work better on my older, crepier and drier skin. The one exception is mascara. I love the Wayne Goss and Charlotte Tilbury mascaras, but I love my Maybelline mascaras, too.
It’s my favorite mascara🥰🥰 the brown waterproof one by Chanel. Also the Inimitable in brown is great, it is a bit different shade than le volume, has a slight sheen, it’s gorgeous
This was interesting, Michele. I have a different take from you on whether to invest in skincare or makeup. Though I agree you should prioritize skincare, I don’t think you need to buy luxury to get a decent skincare routine. However, there’s no substitute for a luxury foundation or a quality makeup brush.
I agree with foundation being most important. I could not live without my La Mer Soft Fluid. I also like high-end blush because it’s normally buildable and you don’t end-up looking like Annabelle. I would stay away from Louboutin, Givenchy, Hermès & Gucci. I know their lipsticks are all good but nothing else for me. Sisley, Westman Atelier & Chantecaille are my faves…LOVE. I love the video!
another great video! its like chatting with girlfriends about make up & shared experience every time when I watched your video. I learned lots of great products and brands from you, I started buying Westman Atelier, Wayne Goss, Koh Gen Do, Bk Beauty...etc and I loved it. By the way, I love your look, make up, earrings and hair on this video. Thank you and can't wait for next one🧡
I enjoyed this video so much! I loved how chatty it was, it covered recommendations and stories and experiences❤️ plus Michelle looks extra beautiful today.
The joy I feel every time I see you uploaded a video is unexplainable, I watch you at night before sleeping because you voice is so soothing that it helps me sleep. Thank you Michelle! You achieve things you may have never intended! 😊❤
I can't take my eyes off your blush, it is beautiful. If you review it later, it would be great if you could mention it was what you were wearing here 😍
That was great! Thank you: informative and entertaining. You are helping me avoid too many "regrettable" and "didn't-work-for-me" decisions! And, I've gotten braver and tried more brands because of your try-ons and critiques. Fun! 🙏💜
Loved this Michele x I have too many purchase regrets! Most Kayali Eden juicy apple ughh smells like cheap victorias secret body spray. Clinique Black Honey Almost Lipstick looked terrible even though it’s been marketed for years as a “suit all” product. Givenchy Lip balm which was too minty… the list goes on.
I have Le 9 de Givenchy LE 9.01 and I really love it. I don’t notice it being not pigmented or dusty but it might just be me, I don’t need overly pigmented makeup, I like to not have to work too hard on blending. In saying that I have Pat and Natasha etc and am just careful with how much I use and I love them too. As far as I remember we didn’t have Sisley here in Australia, I tended to use Chanel, Dior and Lancôme years ago and always thought of Estée Lauder as being the brand for older ladies.
I am a recent subscriber to your channel. Michele, you are a unique combo of hilarious entertainment and serious education. BTW...the first few videos I watched I was convinced you were a professional makeup artist. Thank you for your efforts and channel.❤️
Interestingly (maybe?), I love the La Prairie fragrance and their setting powder is one of the best powders out there. Generously, it comes with a small travel size container beautifully made like the primary container. I highly recommend it, if you are ok with fragrance.
Wow I’ve been following Michelle since day one and because of u I’ve got into some few luxury makeup but very few cuz is sooo expensive so this is like luxury makeup 101 soooo helpful and plus bonus another youtuber recommended by you Michelle. Thanks sooo much it’s amazing ❤️😍
Love this video, found it really helpful and fun! I do have a question about luxury makeup brushes, like where do I start? So many choices out there, and it’s a bit overwhelming for someone new to luxury makeup brushes. Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
I've tended to purchase the best base product that I've been able to afford, in terms of foundation/tinted moisturizer. Foundations have really evolved in the last 10 years, and now include far more skincare (and a better shade range) than they used to, so I feel like consumers are getting more for their dollar in that way. Current favorites: Givenchy Prisme Libre Foundation alternated with Lune and Aster SPF 50+ CC Cream. I use mascara from Beauty Pie. Every cosmetic house has it's hits and misses. Will def be going over to check out Angela's channel.
I agree with you on the accessibility of luxury products in the make up area because I too do not feel like I can afford the luxury handbags or the clothing. I’m also a klutz and I inadvertently messed up my clothes and I don’t want to have to send stuff to the dry cleaner. To me, high end and luxury makeup and skin care is an investment in the health of my skin.
You do NOT need high end skin care. Much of it is actually bad for your skin once you understand the ingredients. Check out Dr Dray. She'll tell you what you need, why, and what you don't need and why.
Agree about the Givenchy eyeshadow. The palettes are so pretty but when I tested them there was no color! I wish they would change the formula. Thanks for this great video.
I will say that you do need to try more than one drugstore mascara to make a judgment on them - I have also had that experience with high end mascara that they dry out and change rather quickly. Formulas are so different, and so are our lashes!
I completely agree with your answer to #8 and as for question #9 I didn’t know how much a difference luxury makeup brushes can have until Kelsee Briana Jai convinced me to try Sonia G brushes. Total game changer and I’m hooked for life!
I’d personally spend the money on makeup and go for a skincare brand like La Roche Posay, amazing skincare brand. I love anytime type of makeup but for me I love a luxury foundation 💜
I love luxury makeup! Just have gotten into recently with my big girl income but I love that I can afford something from a lovely brand without breaking my bank. The Tom Ford Quads are my weakness!
This is helpful! I'm planning to dip my toe into the luxury beauty world but a bit overwhelmed by the options. I have my sights set on a couple of products to start with, a Tom Ford eye quad being one of them.
I love this tag - it's so very different and extremely entertaining, especially when I heard the words "I just looked like a desiccated husk of a person" .... LMAO 😂😂😂😂 It's a line I shall never forget!!!! Much love to you 💗💗💗💗💗
Thanks for the video! You mentioned Surratt foundation as your HG once. Would you still recommend that for someone who wants a very light or sheer coverage? If not, what would be your recommendation. Your skin always looks fabulous!
Agree to start with the basics… foundation, brushes…What you put on top matters too, of course, but if you don’t have a great base and are using inferior brushes, no matter how great the product you are using is, it’s not going to work well. Great video 😊
My beloved Dior Show mascara and a Laura Mercier both started irritating my eyes when I wore my contacts. The only one I can tolerate is a Cover Girl, and it’s pretty good in that it doesn’t smear or flake.
I enjoyed this collab video so much! I love your videos and Angela’s, y’all are my favorite when it comes to luxury beauty reviews. That last question had me laughing! I’m so glad you found went ahead and started your channel.
Love this tag Michele !! Foundation seems to be the logical start but for years I used the MAC studio fix powder foundation … never used any face products including concealers primers until recently … now I can’t live without Chanel No 1 and Lisa Eldridge … I also never used mascara … I was born with very long lashes but as I aged they thinned out completely and every luxury brand I tried … especially Chanel … I was allergic too … so I used whatever I would get from those gift with purchase ones from Nordstrom or neimans … now I use Saie and Jones Road and am happy. My first eyeshadow palette came from Princess Marcella Borghese … remember that brand?? Now it’s Natasha Denona although they can be intimidating … loving the Tom Ford crème ones so happy there! I’m still looking for the perfect lipstick line … I do live Lisa Eldridge and I used to own so much Chanel but with all the choices these days I don’t know where to go. As far as a brand to stay away from … I don’t like Charlotte Tilbury … just my opinion … don’t really care for Gucci either and have to rethink going back to Chanel… but their lipstick line just doesn’t work for me and don’t get me started on the reformulated bronzer and blushes .. Givenchy I only use their powder … nothing else really catches my eye. Great Video!!
Does the Sake mascara smudge or flake? I'm not a lipstick person, but I fell in love with the Givenchy le rouge sheer -- I put it on top of my clear nivea lip balm - 27, rouge infuse, is MLBB and feels like nothing.
@@JLeigh75309 The Saie mascara for me doesn’t flake but I am very weird when it comes to mascara… I only use one coat … I just don’t like the heavy look … so it’s a good one cause I find no irritation… I also just received the Jones Road Beauty one and that’s a great formulation too …
Soo good! It’s so true right? We can’t listen to these younger beauty channels. I made a similar mistake. So glad I can laugh about it now. LoL. Great video💓💓💓
I prefer Hourglass or Thrive Causemetics to drugstore mascaras because of the longer shelf life and the tubing formulas as better for not smudging or flaking. The high end and luxury makeup do it for me in regards to performance and wear experience. Drugstore makeup HAS gotten a LOT better, but i have my makeup loves and most are not at the drugstore.
*Ignore all replies and messages that ask you to text or message me. I will never ask you to text or message me!*
I fell for it. Luckily, all I did was hit the “like” button on your video.
I got one but I thought it was sus.

My “desiccated husk of a person” story was similar ... lord the crevices in the mirror.. I was shook! What went wrong? Immediate face wash ... 😂😂😂😂😂
Between that and the CT “butt crack” powder …… I’m dying! 🤣

I have that bobbi set. It says “bobbi brown essentials” on each brush, or just “essentials”? I need to check. I got them in, like 1990-something.
I have one Bobbi brown bronzer brush and it is so horrible! It pokes me everytime I use it and my non sensitive skin becomes very sensitive... Hakuhodo brushes are a dream to use with!!!

Love this video, found it really helpful and fun! I do have a question about luxury makeup brushes, like where do I start? So many choices out there, and it’s a bit overwhelming for someone new to luxury makeup brushes. Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
These are very interesting and fun questions. I totally agree with your recommendations to invest on base makeup and skincare items.
I follow both u and Angela on UA-cam and I really enjoyed both of the tag videos. This was a real treat to watch today. Thank you!
Hi Michelle thank you for sharing enjoyed the video so much 🌺🌸🌹🌼🥀🌷
I completely agree with your answer to #8 and as for question #9 I didn’t know how much a difference luxury makeup brushes can have until Kelsee Briana Jai convinced me to try Sonia G brushes.
Great video! You were thoughtful, gave clear explanations for what and why and you were fun. 😂 Desiccated... Sent me over the edge.
I love this tag - it's so very different and extremely entertaining, especially when I heard the words "I just looked like a desiccated husk of a person" .... LMAO 😂😂😂😂
It's a line I shall never forget!!!!
Much love to you 💗💗💗💗💗
Thank you for the warning on La Prairie. I don’t care for heavily scented products. I had to return the CT setting spray because if it.
Thanks for the video! You mentioned Surratt foundation as your HG once. Would you still recommend that for someone who wants a very light or sheer coverage? If not, what would be your recommendation. Your skin always looks fabulous!
It’s the Shade and Illuminate. What a great foundation! I have samples, the color, texture, is just perfect. FBW.
Agree to start with the basics… foundation, brushes…What you put on top matters too, of course, but if you don’t have a great base and are using inferior brushes, no matter how great the product you are using is, it’s not going to work well. Great video 😊
This is such a great video! Feels like we got to know you even better!
Hey Michele 💖💜 this is such a great idea! Angela is an angel 👼🏼
👋
From one "dessicated husk of a human being" to another, I love friends who tell me that "it's not working for you"! Thank you so much for the laughs!!
I really enjoy the Givenchy 9-pan holiday eyeshadow from the fall.
Fun video! I also love the experience and ritual that goes along with luxury makeup. And LOL at the CT loose powder. Vile!
I totally agree about not following younger beauty influencers! Fun video, thanks! ❤️
I'm going back and forth with luxury perfumes... I have a few but I'm loving my scentbird.
Very fun video. I 💯 agree about mascara. Love ❤️ high end makeup but won’t buy high end mascara
I agree - I love Angela!
Spot on on the mascara observation. That flaking happened with all of my drugstore mascaras and almost never with Lancome's.
Dear Michele ,can kindly recommend a luxury loose powder,. I m a 50 plus Asian with texture and dry skin.
Many thanks ❤️
Michele, fun tag with Angela with great and funny answers. Love the one with Charlottes powder. 😆❤️
Hi Michele, I’m a subscriber of you both , really like Angela, very happy about this collab💋( dessicated husk🤔….I checked on the dictionary 😂😂😂😂😂)
How fun! I want to try the Chanel no 1 foundation it looks beautiful
Agree about Saks - much better shopping experience and better inventory.
Love this video Michele as I starting out with makeup. Thank you!!
What a great video! And your regret ….omg! Love you, love Angela! More please!
Great collaboration video love you both xx Gill 🇬🇧 xx
Always love your sage advice. I may eventually break down and get a Tom Ford quad one of these days.
So much fun, Michele! Thanks!
Hello! I don’t like either scented products. I find Gerlaine and Sisley very scented make up.
@@JLeigh75309 The Saie mascara for me doesn’t flake but I am very weird when it comes to mascara… I only use one coat … I just don’t like the heavy look … so it’s a good one cause I find no irritation… I also just received the Jones Road Beauty one and that’s a great formulation too …
I loved this video! Besides being a wealth of information, it was hilarious! I'm still dying over the 'desiccated husk of a person'!🤣🤣
Michele...if you haven't tried Floraiku, it's my most loved recent fragrance discovery... particularly One Umbrella for Two and My Shadow on the Wall.
When you mention natural hair brush I'm guessing that's not cruelty free? If so, what is a good alternative you can recommend?
Loved this video!! I am slowly getting into luxury makeup.
Drugstore makeup HAS gotten a LOT better, but i have my makeup loves and most are not at the drugstore.
quick random question...which is the very best lash curler on the market in your opinion?
How many Tom Ford fiber brow gels did you buy now that they are in stock on the TF website!
Visiting for the first time after watching Angela's video. You are beautiful and so interesting! Great recommendations! Thank you! :)
