"I think I thought I saw you try"
I personally like how half of the words are verbs here
Lol, someone is a English major
@@josiahfresnel9217 an*
@@hatim9687 aaáqqáaaAT
And the other half are personal pronouns
Lol it sounded like a perfectly normal sentence until you typed it out
The phrase "losing my religion" is an expression from the southern region of the United States that means "losing one's temper or civility" or "feeling frustrated and desperate."
Wow now the song has become even more meaningful, thanks for the info
Well in true sense religion really means only that - your soul. That is our Dharma - to know ourselves, not some sect following...
If we are away from ourselves, how can we be happy?
If you listen to the lyrics, the song is about unrequited love.
Personally, I believe this song is personal to the singer.
He's gay and at the time this song was written, it was still taboo.
I think he's singing about a man he was in love with but couldn't bring himself to confess it.
This song was that confession.
Listen to the lyrics.
OK bro!
This song coincidentally started playing on the radio as I was driving away from my ex after a terrible breakup. It was also a rainy day, and I just got hit right in the feels. It perfectly fit the mood at the time. Just something I always associate with this song.
The timing of this shows that SOMEONE is out there watching
@@jasperrice8456 who? The radio station dudes?
@@HatredInTheFlesh perhaps. or that camper.

This is the perfect song to drive alone on a rainy day and just think back on all the bullshit to cry it out then pick yourself back up
I played this song for a few friends. None of them liked it. Clearly, I need new friends

This song and band has got me through some tough times losing my childrens mother in a car crash, today marks exactly 2 years she's been gone. 💔

This song feels like the anthem of every slowly declining relationship. Not even necessarily romantic. And relationship where you are afraid of and honest reckoning with what’s really going on.
Completly agree with you
aftersun
Yes. The ending of a relationship was exactly what I was thinking about while listening. Non romantic.
Exactly. I think the lyrics are specifically about disillusionment with a love, a person, yet it applies to so many other types of relationships, too. I'm really feeling it of late, let's just put it that way.
well said matey, my name is also DYlan hahaha
I was playing COD while listening to this on Spotify and got killed by a camper, and when the kill cam popped up all I heard was "That's me in the corner"

🤣🤣
This made me laugh . Thank you
@@Fanatic_gamergod same... Was struggling here to smile but guess what lmao
That's called perfect timing 🤣🤣🤣 Watching it on a stream (and I guess it would also make a perfect clip on Twitch), that would be hilarious :D

Agree
I mean, it is in my top 50 favorite songs.
Absolutely
When I was little, my old man and I were driving from New Brunswick to Ontario. I had fallen asleep, but woke up as we were going through Montreal. Coming from a town of 1500 people, seeing all the city lights was fascinating. (I was 6 or 7). This song was on the radio and I’ve always held that memory close with this song. As I’ve gotten older I find myself relating to the song a lot more, and looking back, I wonder if my Pops did too. Parents divorced about a year after the trip, and though him and I aren’t as close, this song, and Nirvana’s “Nevermind” are two albums that we have always stayed connected on. Sorry for the ramble, just felt like needing to share…somewhere. Peace and Love to all of you❤️🙏
Im sorry, God bless
peace and love to all
i feel like this song should be alot older than it is.
Very very true
The song came out in 1991
I think this song sounds newer than it actually is
Severi Sukuvaara Lyric wise I can understand that sounds like a newer song but the instruments remind me of an older song
I totally feel that sometimes! 😆
the flow of this song is very unique. I love how it just flows through from beginning till the end followed the acoustic guitar, you really get the feeling that this is not just a song but the inner monologue of a person.
It's hard to describe the tempo of this amazing song. You surely nailed it, and so eloquently!
This song makes me feel all the emotions I never knew I had.
ua-cam.com/video/LwKMVCVXmCw/v-deo.html
I concure.
it means a lot more when you understand and know what he's saying
when he says "losing his religion" that means losing you faith in god and basically losing hope and want to die.
Beautifully described.
And all the ones we prefer to ignore
I'm a 36 year old black guy from Eastern North Carolina and this is absolutely one of my favorite songs of all time
This song keeps reminding me of my 13 year old dog who died 2 months ago. This is the last song that played in the car on our way to the vet to put her down. Rest in peace, I love you so much.

Love this song. Can't stop playing it. Reminds me of horrible hurtful relationships I had. Some, because of me and others because of her. It hurts! Great song!
there're songs that'll never be old, this is one of them.
"I think I thought I saw you try" is one of the most relatable and heartbreaking lyrics I've ever heard
You forgot to mention "I don't know if I can do it"
yeah I guess but what does it even mean?
I completely and utterly agree with you! Though I will bet my 100 American Dollars to your whatever one cent, you will not agree at all, even .000001% percent, with why I agree...
'Trying is an excuse Losers make when they Fail, Hoping to gain sympathy from the Marks they have Targeted, Trying for one last Score......'
We are all scum, so your words do prove the Heartbreak and Relatable aspect of the lyrics in this song!
Though, again, I doubt you will agree with this perspective!
But maybe you could try............
@@jose2226 I think it's about someone who loses a friend to suicide. He hopes that his friend is recovering (I think I saw you laughing) and is actually trying to get his life together (I thought I saw you try), but in reality it's getting worse and the friend eventually kills himself (It was just a dream). I don't know if I can do it is maybe about not being able to recover from the suicide of his friend.
@@annabolika8919 oh wow, never really thought about it that way. Thank you for the perspective. I guess that's why the title is losing my religion.
After many years, i finally found this song and i was surprised this was actually done by R.E.M
Congrats man
It’s really nice when you finally find a song
Michael Stipe’s singing voice is unmistakable ;)
TheJPSouza Yeah, i thought this was done by the band Fra Lippo Lippi but i did not bother to search it
Glad you got it but still wonder why it was a surprise for you, the sound and vocals are so R.E.M, just can’t be anything else 😃
One of the songs that I don’t mind being stuck in my head.
This song is in my top 10 greatest songs of my lifetime. The emotion in Michael Stipe’s delivery is raw, and the lyrics cut deep.
Mine too!
Eita anos '90. Rem sempre um clássico. Sempre me lembro dessa música tocando nas rádios paulistas naquele início de '92. Grandes tempos.

I briefly dated a girl who played the guitar and she played this song transposed down a few semi-tones into a minor key - it was so hauntingly beautiful and I still think of it to this day. It's very rare that I'm so transfixed by something I can recall it vividly 15 years later lol
Can you recreate the song the same way the girl did?
@@NomuJhinsiFan I wish lol I sadly don't play!
I think that was something REM talked about was the demo was more dark and not quite as uptempo but it was as usual a decision on the label to record it how it currently sounds
When I was a kid and was till somewhat foggy on understanding the intricacies of music, this is one band that for the longest time, I wasn't able to determine if they were rock, pop, or blues. They just do such a good job of combining them and being all 3 at once.
My sleep paralysis demon: “That’s me in the corner.”
Lol nice

This song is on my personal soundtrack for staying at home during Coronavirus outbreak.
Maybe because the old life is now just a dream.
Tell me about it, it's been like this for five years now.
O.o LOL Why issue? It’s almost paradise.
O.o LOL There are rare cases when that isn’t true. In a general scope of the race, though, yes, I see your point. I’d use myself as an example, but that wouldn’t be entirely correct since I am not a doctor/psychiatrist to determine whether or not it’s had effects on me, whether slight or not. Also, it’s personal. But overall, yes, I see your point.
But that was just a dream, try, cry, why, try, that was just a dream, just a dream, just a dream
Dream on

Takes me back to being a kid, listening to this on the car radio on long summer drives. I miss that. The mid to late 2000’s were a good time to be alive

That’s too sick bro. I remember being 5 and hearing Smells Like Teen Spirit for the first time in my old man’s 1990’s 2 door, white Honda Accord. Shoutout to parents who showed us timeless music🙌
Shout out to your mom and all the parents that show their kids times less music.
This was released the year of my birth. Little did I know the lyrics would define my entire life up until now. A confession that ends up in an awful rejection and nothing but solitude while everyone around have someone to hold their hands.
Snap.....I know exactly how you feel. You be nicer to people, speak positive and happy subjects to make friends, but they just don't want to know. That's probably why I occasionally listen to "Greenday" and "Boulevard of broken dreams"

I remember the first time I heard this song was in a bus on the way back to our barracks after a long week at the advanced rifleman course at Fort Benning, GA during Infantry School. An entire Platoon of grunts were stone quiet just listening to this song. Makes me think of that every time I hear it. Great song, probably one of R.E.M.’s best…..right along with Man on the Moon.
They didn't play music when we were in transit, but that would have been amazing. I remember the first time in charge of quarters. I got to sit in a chair for the first time in the process, it was the best feeling I'd had in months. Thought about the pleasure of something so simple.

Love R.E.M. music is always a pleasure to jam. They get to all the emotions. I've read alot about how cool they were also. Like when Peter Buck jumped offstage to tell the guards to let a fan back in who had lost their ticket. Intelligence, honesty, and humbleness abound. Thanks for the music and memories!
This song helped with my depression after a breakup happened between a girl I knew for while glad to know that the meaning is mostly about loving someone who doesn’t love you back the same way
