    Why do most artists tape the boarder Ionesco of the canvas before painting. Couldn’t the painting extend to all edges of painting rather than this empty border around it

    • @lenhend
      @lenhend  2 роки тому

      Best to know exactly what is on the very edges of the painting as things must be balanced and picture frames are easier to buy at nominal sizes.
      Paintings can cover the whole canvas as you say but you might lose control of the arrangement.

  • @Lolalexz00
    @Lolalexz00 10 років тому +2

    Mine turned out much weaker when i started to use the 'knife'. (i bought way too large, for a small A4 canvas :( ) Plus my paints were much 'dirty', not so vivid like yours. PLUS it took me a few hours! when i started to fix the 'failed' water (had to paint every wave with brush, rarely knife, and wasn't satisfied with the result many times). You, sir are a master. my new guru. I am planning to learn painting with you, but with your speed and flow there's a loong way towards..
    People watch - amazing but easy! - but my paints don't want to listen, which makes it tough like always.
    Great skill.

    Nice to see one of these videos being done in a more impressionist format rather than a more realistic one. Reminds me, to some extent since the subject matter is very different, of some paintings by the Group of Seven/Tom Thomson.

    Hi Len, I see, you make much with acrylics. My question is: Since this color dries very fast on the canvas, how long does it stay wet on the palette? Or does it dry there also very fast?

    • @lenhend
      @lenhend  8 років тому

      +The Fine Arts the paint on the palette is in a thick pile and not in a thin layer so it doesn't dry so fast

    • @DressedForDrowning
      @DressedForDrowning 8 років тому

      +Len Hend (PaintWithLen) Thanks. I guess, I'm gonna give it a try.

    • @kelymknowles1
      @kelymknowles1 8 років тому

      +The Fine Arts I live in Fl and it is very hot and humid and I really struggled for a very long time with a constantly dry palette and when painting the canvas. I have tried every medium out there but I finally broke down and sprung the $16 for both a Masterson Wet Palette (doesn't matter which brand you choose) and a 30pack of the palette paper that goes with it. The palette came with 5 sheets of palette paper and you can use both sides and reuse the paper over and over. I just use the sprayer on my kitchen faucet and clean it off and let it air dry. I alternate between the 2 sheets of paper. So it is far more economical than I thought it would be and I paint every day! Mine has 6 covered removable solo cups to put water, paint or mediums in. Life has been a dream! I also use Liquitex Palette Spray and have an array of retarders and thinners by Liquitex and Golden. All of which are now right on my palette. I don't know how I lived before! I use a lot less mediums though now and I save a ton of paint and can be a lot more free with laying out my paints because I know I can save any excess. So, I would highly recommend getting one because not only does it help extraordinarily well while painting but you are most definitely going to save a on of money on paints/mediums too!
