I use abaca tissue paper - also known as tissuetex in the UK. It is a very strong but lightweight Japanese tissue paper and it absorbs colour wonderfully. It makes fabulous backgrounds.

Natasha, I love this idea, and will try it ! I may use used tissue paper, which I never threw away after bday and Mother’s Day gifts this year ! This project I can do without having to buy supplies ! ( think I’ll use cash in the tiny gift bag , and ribbon for handles ! ) Thsnk you for sharing 🥰

I think the best thing about your videos is that you make our minds work and envision using your techniques on what we have. And using the colors, shapes, textures that call to us. We don’t have to copy your work in every detail, but get inspiration from what you have made. Kind of like buy someone a fish and they eat for a day. Teach them to fish and they won’t go hungry. You have given us over 900 videos but millions of ideas. Thank you.
Another way to hold twine to braid it is to clip the end down on a clipboard. I've been binging your videos lately; thanks for sharing your knowledge and ideas!
