i use Cusor some week for an private projekt and i learnt to commit often. It works really good and than throws a lot of Code away. Moving, copy, remove files is pain. I delete the index after one of this operations and start a new chat. The tool i am building at the moment is a fastapi backend with vue frontend to transkripe audio and fill Templates with the information from the transcription. To be honest the actual run is my 3 try on this app. also used bolt (Works fine for prototyping than not) and Windsurf (seems to get good results but i missed composer heavyly :-) With 0.42 or 0.43 Cursor stopped my most fav. function: Chat with Claude till you get a point and than click and transfer to composer to do the whole work. Loved this workflow-.

Unfortunately, after a certain period, Windsurf starts acting up. I start a new chat, but sometimes it takes a long time to solve an issue. Recently, I asked for a simple switch button with animation, and it just couldn’t do it. I even had the instructions written by another AI, thinking it might not understand what I wrote, and tried 5 different methods, but it still didn’t work. It struggles with simple tasks. It still has a long way to go.

I wonder if the initial prompt is more detailed and structured if the results will progress better. Cursor 4.3 is agentic i have been using it before you posted this video, you have to make sure you have the latest version. You should specify a UI library like tailwind and shadcn/ui and give it an example. Throwing a vague goal will get a vague result.

Honest and insightful, 2 thumbs up|
For me, Windsurf was so impressive in the initial stages of building out a quite simple (I think) data download, calc, and dashboard population. Then it just started to break everything in a loop cycle, every time, even after applying, in theory, rigorous development practices. Lost countless hours with it -- always seeming just one more rounds of fixes away from getting it to work.
Now do I try to pick up the pieces and go elsewhere, hmm

only if cursor was built on top of Lapce or Zed or extension for these

You could have had a smarter work flow with windsurf. You have added the documentation you wanted it to have context about, as .md files and referenced those in the prompt. Also it’s good to use gpt4o in windsurf chat only, to make the plan of what you wanted to do, then switch to sonnet 3.5 write to get it to execute the plans. And switch back and forth doing that, till things are done.

Fantastic video Alex. Really useful. I would find it useful to find out what other apps you use. You mentioned on X that you use Notion as well. Or maybe you make your own apps for every use you need?

      Cursor.
Ask it to write python files, not jupyter notebooks.

Tailwind is not working correctly or not implemented correctly, that's why the ui looks bad for cursor

For me Cursor is the most consistent gives me more accurate output and it let me interact during development 😅

Windsurf seems to be the smartest of the 3, also you can switch it to gpt 4o if you want much faster answers from a less intelligent AI.
