It’s just strange knowing that Threads director Mick Jackson went on to direct Steve Martin’s magical whimsy “L.A. Story” and then mega-blockbuster “The Bodyguard” with Whitney Houston and Costner.
This film had me scarred (and scared) me as as I was far too young (only 13) when it was shown on TV and was watching it alone. I didn't realise that it was only a film and thought it was a documentary of what happened a while ago. I am from Sheffield so couldn't understand why I hadn't been told this had happened and nobody talked about it . I ran crying to my Dad in tears near to the end of it asking him, he came in looked at what I was watching and then sat down and told me it was only a film. I am still scarred by it and to this DAY have not been able to watch it again it upsets me so much.
Damn. That's definitely the sort of thing that will scar someone growing up. And even when similar movies come out, it'll remind you of that time you watched this.
The movie "The Day After" (1984) had the same premise but took place in the United States and it was equally as depressing and horrific. Highly recommended.
Lot of basketball teams in Glasgow, eh Barry? Great review bud, glad you got the feels with this one. It’s bleak, but expertly made for the budget. Really makes you think. 🤔
Sounds brutal. I remember seeing that on the shelf of the video shop as a kid. Never knew what it was about, was always fascinated by that cover art. Glad I never watched it, I was only about 8 years old!
I haven't seen this movie but I've heard a lot about it. Another movie that was made at the same time, but this time animated, was 'When the Wind Blows' I was youngish when I saw it and it was quite haunting.
Man, this movie is dark, and you are kind of got to be in the mood to watch it. Also, i like pointing out all the places I recognise as I live and are from Sheffield myself.
It’s a classic British film. I couldn’t believe you didn’t know what it was about! The adverts in it are real, I remember seeing them when I was a kid in the early 80’s. They also delivered leaflets as part of the Government campaign to prepare the country for possible nuclear war.
@@WolfmansGotNards In the early 80’s, I was too young and the adults didn’t seem too bothered, nowadays people would soil themselves. Maybe the previous generation were built of sterner stuff! 😂 But yeah, I think adverts were part of a Government scheme, I think it was called Protect and Survive. Threads was probably made to be part of that.

i remember them filming this when i was young around the Shirecliffe and Hillsborough area of Sheffield where i grow up.

My old next door neighbour was an extra in this film. Not seen this in a long time but remember the fear of a nuclear war growing up in he 80s
Love your commentary Barry.
Handsome fella as well 😊

Absolutely! I won't be watching it again in a hurry. Not because of the quality, but like you said, it's so bleak.

Jeez. You'd have been traumatised at that age haha.

doesn’t seem like something that would catch my interest... but i do love me a movie with the black bars! thanks, barry!
Hey Barry. Not going to watch your review right now. I have this in my watch list for tonight. Boom! Out go the lights!
Been eyeing this up for a while. Think I watched it at school for R.E. or modern studies but barely remember it.
Watch it again. But prepare for bleakness lol

To me, the *scariest* film I've ever seen so far. *NO JOKE!*
I believe you. It truly was horrifying.

If I remembered receiving these leaflets, I'd probably just tremble every day.

This is a movie that constantly comes up and I STILL haven't seen it. I need to get on it
Make sure you're not stressed or depressed going into it. It'll send you over the edge 😱😅
@@WolfmansGotNards SOLD!!! 🤣 I need something to tip me over the edge
