    To be honest, I lived in Tallinn for 3 months and every month I spent about 250 on a studio apartment (incl utilities), 10 euro on phone plan, probably 200 euro on food. Unless you are being self-indulgent I don't think you'd spend 1000 euro.

      Lived in Tallinn 4 YEARS !
      = 600 € / mon AT MOST
      >
      106 square meter 4 room (nice) appartment = went from 250 > 200 € + ~40-60€(winter time expenditure)
      As i ate out half of the time and i spent on food 4 times as much on it than usually, that was around 150-200 € a month (atm it's 90€ a month including cigarettes).
      10 hours & 300sms phone plan = 6€
      internet&tv 35 € (200mbit/s unlimited & ~80channels)
      + on taxy (because of the work and a bit on public trantsport) +- 100€
      (*This is for 1 person, if you would team up with someone halves the living space cost and third of the food for both sides.)

    I am from Tallinn, yes , single people usually spend 1000-1200€ a month. We, family of 3, we own our house, but have 3 cars, we spend 2500-3000€ monthly.our sun is student at Tallinn university, lives at home with us, he have couple of friends who is international students and they stay for dinner ones a week)) They found difficult to find jobs with out Estonian language and locals don't like foreners:((

    You should visit Assamalla, near Rakvere, it's a beautiful place with 2 houses(amazing soviet engineering), bus stop and an asphalt road built between the houses. For sightseeing there is a local dog and one spruce, what is already grown 25 years there! The locals are very friendly, they wear baceball caps, drive mostly BMW-s and welcome every visitor with a nice punch to the face. They usually hang around the burger booth. I strongly recommend!

    The reality is that people earning minimum salary spend around 400-500 to everything and sometimes they even have children.
    I believe that students nowadays spend around 200-300 on everything. In my time, it was even less. Normally, the students who are the children of average or poor people, will always share the room, buy clothes from second hand and spend maybe 100 eur on food per month (sometimes they get some food also from the parents). A lot of students are already living with their boyfriends and girlfriends who sometimes work and these students don't spend that much on rent and food. Especially, if you want to become a doctor or a pharmacist, these internships are often unpaid (or used to be) so either your parents or your partner has to support you.
    Students who have worked before, have a good job, are for instance part time programmers or something, might spend around 700 eur. I don't think you need more than that if you are willing to rent a room which I would prefer anyway because you will have some Estonian-speaking friends who can help you if something is broken or you need to pay bills. Eating out is really expensive in Estonia because we don't have cheap street food like it is common in Berlin or Thailand. It depends a lot on your preferences, for instance some Estonians I know spend also a lot on food, almost never cook, party and drink out and complain their 1500 eur salary is not enough. For me, living costs are something I rather not spend on, I can share the apartment, buy drinks from supermarket and cook, it all should be less than 500 eur, better if less than 400 eur.

    Cost of living in Tallinn. Be reasonable, learn to cook and you will spend no more than 200 eur per month. I buy food for 2 and we get by with 250 per month (125 per one person). And this is by no means eating cheapest crap possible - I value high quality food. Rent in Tallinn is really expensive for what you get. Most of the rentals are in shoddy old Soviet apartment buildings and have varying levels of comfort/quality. Expect to spend over 400 for single bedroom ~40m2 in downtown and between 300-450 outside downtown. Utility bills in these old apartments are pretty expensive, usually ranginng from 80 during summer months and close to 200 during winter (some apartment buildings have renovated exterior and added modern heat insulation, so it can be much lower though). Internet is mostly cheap, 10mbps is around 10-15/month. Public transportation is cheap for students and free for residents. Clothes are expensive, electronics are mostly the same as elsewhere in EU. Eating out is rather expensive. So yeah, I think that if you live alone, you can spend well over €600/month. Pretty depressing, considering that average salary is just about 900 euros

      downtown for 420 € you get penthouse luxury penthouse appartment of 65 m2 (yeah 2 rooms because both of them are huge as it's luxury) + 12 m2 terrass
      This was on rent (2016) on city center in a building on Tartu mnt. All was completly new, built in shower (not the booth) and full kichen & washing machine. (it was up at kv.ee)
      Don't take the fist thing that you come up with with a simple search that's the most expencive of the ok options.
      Lived in Tallinn for 4+years in 4 appertments and 106 m2 cost 261€ (+60-80 for the heat and extras) was lowered to 191€ even tho it was really nice appartment, but the location was in Lasnamäe, the other i small 35m2 rented for 95€(+35 for the heat and extras).
      Both were renovated nice appartments.

      I have to get some tips from you, I'm moving to Tallinn and on my online searches all I can find between 200-300€ are tiny 16 to 20m² 1 room apartments or really old ones with up to 30 or 40 m².

  • @KrK-EST
    @KrK-EST 7 років тому +5

    simple answer is : 400 €
    if a leaned back style then 650 €
    if a luxury then starting from 850 €
    (this is for one person with TALLINN prices, the rent and all expendatures related to that, food, media aka internet/tv/telephone and transportation)
    Halve the numbers for rural areas and 1 level cheaper for other places.

    So informative! Since I studied in Brussels it was interesting for me to see how much other students spend in other cities! I was spending around 200EUR on food and my rent was 400EUR. I also made a vlog about it :D
    And I love the birds in the background *-*

      People should keep in mind that he is going to the gym. Obviously he is eating more than average. Therefore he also eats more. It is a bit too high but perfectly normal if we are talking about above average quality of food or eating out a lot. If you eat out a lot, then 300€ is actually normal.

      Go eat out then.
      In the bistro cafe in my office building the most expencive foor is usual at 6,5 euros, very rarely 8,5 on special occasion days, usual food is priced 2,5 to 4,5 and thats full plate + any salat, bread or other extra you want to have as much as you want for free.
      Dont let yourself get ripped off !
      Same with living places and rent and extras and such. (If you need some advice or help on the paperwork with the rental agreements let me know on my page "Discussion" .)

    I know several people who have it ROUGH, including myself. Estonia can be very unforgiving to people who don't have their own home and who have to rent tiny apartments for the rest of their lives - you get money for food on the payment day but there is NEVER anything left after paying the rent and buying essential stuff. I'm personally planning to permanently move to Netherlands as this country loves their folks a lot more than Estonia loves us :(

    Everything is more expensive in Tallinn, if you're not looking carefully at food prices, then yes , 300 euros sums it up. Wouldn't even say that 300 euros is much there if you're looking at quality food :)

    Yeah, it got a lot more expensive with the euro. Yet the pay is mostly the same. So the situation is that people usually get much less than a thousand per month, it can go down to as low as 2.50 per hour (usual waiting job, or that of a cleaner/nurse, even many teachers get near-minimum wage). This can get on the nerves of many people. Very often this is vented on news-sites with aggressive trolling (also towards foreigners). The venting, for whatever topic, usually encompasses a painful remark about our politicians, and our pay. People nowadays often feel that their sense of (economical) security is non-existent, so hearing about other sources that seem of a danger (terrorism or gov-paid people in need, ie refugees) will often spark very sharp reactions.

    • @markust6039
      @markust6039 8 років тому +2

      Teachers dont get almost minimum wages.... Average salary for a teacher is 1111 euros and that is 3 times the minimum wage. Also they get 56 days of payed vacation per year, they can go to trips on the expense of the class/school and have other privileges like cheaper tickets. They are also respected in the society and time for preparing for a class and checking tests is also included in the work time so they get to be more in home.
      www.postimees.ee/3595809/opetajate-keskmine-palk-tousis-ule-1100-euro
      Average salary for a doctor was 2250 euros and for nurses 1140 euros in the year 2015. (both better than the national average).
      tervis.postimees.ee/3369639/vaata-kui-palju-tousis-tanavu-arstide-palk
      Also if you live in Tallinn where everything is more expensive and earn 2.50/h there is something wrong with you (waiters get tips that make up more then their basic salary). In Tallinn the average salary is 1300 - 1400 euros and when you live somewhere else, the housing and costs of living are much cheaper. My first and dumb job was 5 eur/h with benefits and i didnt even have a high school degree. If a person earns less than that (but tries to earn more and cant) he or she has 0 skills, has a serious disability, doesnt care for high salary, is delusional or something else. Even simple construction workers who cant weld or anything get 8-10 eur/h in Tallinn and there is a need for new workers.
      Where do you get your facts and do you really see the world in such gray colours? Economical security nonexistent? mby in 2007 - 2012. Life has never been so good in Estonia as it is now and still everyone is whining. And euro didnt raise any costs. Kroon was already tied 1:15,6466 to euro so only thing that changed was how the currency looked visually. Look it up, kroon wasnt independent. And we had a huge inflation during/before/after going over to euro so it wasnt euro but just good old inflation. A burger was 4 kroons when i was little and in the end of the kroon the same burger was about 40 kroons.

      That's the way it is. For example I want to study but NOPE. Can you go to school with a full time job? NOPE. Can you save money for later? NOPE. Why? Because the bills take 70% of the monthly income! Okay, then should I go to school and work at the same time and die from stress and sleep deprivation. And a part time job is not enough to pay the bills! AARGHH

      Yeah you can really cut down the costs living ina dorm instead of an apartment. The 600 is really if you have an apartment with a roommate and go to the gym and party and all that. 800 is ludicrous.

    Hello! Just moved with my wife several days ago here. What about gyms and sport nutrition? Also we couldn't find milk products with fat less than 5% mostly 20% fat which is high amount for our diet.

    • @LivingMyLife1991
      @LivingMyLife1991 8 років тому

      Hello! I think you shouldn't pay too much attention on fat % on milk here. Most of it is just white water you drink anyways. You should search for the milk in plastic bags instead of cartons packaged. They are cheaper as well and in my experience the cheaper you go with milk the more watery it is. Maybe this link will help you: www.farmi.ee/tooted/piim/1771
