I think a person has to work extra hard to make such a relationship work. Cultural differences and communication difficulties can quickly put an end to a relationship where only appearances matter.

Some of the women are being honest yet summer just being very polite. Interracial marriage in Japan is not a very big thing. Most interracial couples I met was between a non-Asian individual and a Chinese person. Especially people from mainland China seems to be more open to interracial dating than a lot of other countries, there are Japanese individuals who will marry foreigner it does happen

I think that when east asian countries talk about foreigners they think about white people. You can follow up the question to - what if the person is from africa or black and the answer changes drastically - it's not racism for them but that its colorism and that darker skinned are not attractive, be it from africa, or southeast asia or indian.

I'm guessing they are envisioning a handsome guy like Zac Efron or Ryan Reynolds type, those are few and far between. There is no way they would consider any other Asian foreigners. No way a little Filipino would even cross their minds.
