CORRECTION: In the video, I say the median annual income in Queensland is $97,000. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in August of 2024 (the latest figures published so far), the median weekly gross income was $1350, putting the median annual income at $70,200. This is the result of rushing the video out and not fact checking as intensively as I would have liked to. I will endeavour to avoid such errors in future.
Good correction and fair call. Thanks for balanced intelligent videos about Brisbane issues. The incredible growth has shown the limitations of leadership.
I am loving this channel more and more. This is a better rundown of what is happening in Brisbane than any of the MSM puts together. I would love to see more in-depth single issues as well as standalone episodes.
I'm glad to hear that. I have a number of single issue videos planned, some of which I've already started the research and interviews for, but unfortunately for this month, I think the weekly updates are all I can manage. The others will have to wait until February and beyond. There may be quick single topic videos in January, but they won't be anything particularly deep.
Understand it would be speculation at this stage, but if Star goes under financially, what’s your view as to what will happen to the Queens Wharf precinct? Have you heard from anyone with insight that can shed some light?
Sorry for the late response, I couldn't find the comment when I came back to answer, then stumbled on it again just now. I haven't really looked into it yet (but will certainly need to before the next weekly update), but from what I've seen so far, I'd imagine Star will just get taken over by another corporation if it goes bust. Maybe Crown? In any case, Crisafulli is assuring employees of Star that the state gov't will have their backs. Again, not something I've looked into yet, so how much substance there is to it is not something I can say.
Cheers. I'm still considering if I skip an update or two, or pare them right down to maybe four or five key things. Twenty-something was ridiculous this week!
They'll always be a part of the channel, although I can't guarantee they'll continue to be weekly. I thought weekly may be more manageable than monthly, but I'm still spending two whole days filming and editing the weekly ones - similar to the time spent on monthly ones, but four times as often each month! We'll see how it goes...
What is your thesis on? I'm fascinated! How you have the time to give us this content is beyond me. This is the first video I've seen of yours. Thanks for the informative video. 🌞☕️
It's on using collaborative documentary films to increase awareness and challenge stigma around borderline personality disorder. If you have a spare 45-50 minutes or so sometime in the next week or so, you can help me with it by doing a questionnaire and watching 3 short films. Just look for the video with a title something like "please help me" from last week here on the channel for more info.
Thanks for a very informative video. First time watching and have subscribed. I would like to regular updates on the cost of the Brisbane Olympics. I’m not in favour of us hosting this event that has become a massive monetary burden to every country that holds it. Brisbane is already 1 billion in debt, the federal government is approaching 1 trillion in debt. Why are we doing this. The rewards are very limited tourist wise, spending a billion on a temporary swimming hole is crazy. I wish Brisbane would just hand it back to the Olympic community or the runner up. We will be paying for this event for decades to the detriment of other much needed services. Does anyone else feel this way?
Thanks and welcome! You definitely have many friends as far as wishing there were no Olympics on the cards. I'm in a strange position in that the Olympics messing about gives me a lot of extra content for the channel, and the channel will also likely gain from the extra focus on the city as we get closer to the event, so while I see a lot of the negative impacts, I can't say I wish the event was going elsewhere (selfish, I know, but I've gotta pay the bills). I also think there is some potential for at least some positives to come out of it as far as better infrastructure goes. But it's definitely a complex matter with arguments on either side (perhaps more against than for). Tackling a deep analysis of the potential impacts - positive and negative - and looking at the legacy of the games in other cities is something on the cards for one of the bigger videos this year on THE Brisbane Channel...
I think you talked about "Bluey's World" previously. It opened recently at Hamilton and we went with family. I was expecting a big new theme park but it's actually a temporary installation, like something you might have seen at Expo 88 - a bunch of plywood thrown up inside a shed and painted in bright colours. If you do the sensible thing and arrive by ferry, make sure you don't bring a pram or stroller because Bluey's World doesn't allow them and there's nowhere on site to store them!
Wow! I'm really shocked at how un-family-friendly Bluey's world appears to be - from the no stroller policy to the lack of children's pricing. Thanks for sharing this info.
I think the pram thing is probably in case of a fire. Like when in a childcare centre we have to store prams outside. So they're reasily available if need be but out of the way.
I have to provide the context. There were incidents where people were hoarding animals and neglecting them in areas like Kurwongbah. The animal care services had to come in and intervene. Unity Water meter boxes are rubbish and they are their own creation! At my property they replaced a dry clean 25 year old box with a box that is not weather proof. Soil enters from underneath through a gap they didn't seal, thus creating conditions like the photo you used. The meter is perpetually covered in soil and water (no soil) enters from above turning the soil into mud. Like your presentation style and balance of information. Subscribed. Hope your second to last thesis push delivers all that you hope for. :-)

If not, I won't really be phased.

Thank you for the updates. Appreciate your videos and insights, although imho, our water in Brisbane is always foul tasting no matter what time the year.
Can you provide some updates on the Moreton Baycat ferry proposal from Bribie Island via Redcliffe to Brisbane. Also some more infomation on the Sunshine Coast as it is an LGA of SEQ.
I'll be working on a video for which I'll likely be interviewing Mayor Flannery, so I'll ask about the Baycat proposal then. As for the Sunshine Coast, sorry, butI have a big enough task keeping up with the Greater Brisbane area, so I can't help you with that. Same for those that have asked for Gold Coast content.
I've seen a smattering of complaints about the Brisbane Live venue. The thing has been an idea in development since well before the Olympics and I thought it was a good idea the whole time. It would make a good replacement for the Brisbane Entertainment Centre out in Boondall for a lot of events like the Basketball, concerts etc. Being right on top of Roma Street station (effectively) is also great for easy public transport for people to get home.
I'm a pensioner who lived in Bne from 1980 - 2022, left for good after covid, now living in the Philippines. Left Oz because of steep increases in cost of living, especially rent ($150 per WEEK for a pokey room in a share house, vs a 2brm apartment in the Philippines for $165 a MONTH!). Public transport in Bne is good off peak. Food is reasonable for an old bloke who doesn’t pig out, but about 4 times the cost in the Philippines! Medical care costs have also escalated. I live like a king on my pension in the Philippines, make friends easily with the friendly natives and found true love in her 50s, ie. not a money grabbing floozy.
Yes, I can imagine you'd live quite well somewhere like that on an Aussie pension. When my time to retire comes, I'm likely to do so in Vietnam, where I lived for a couple of years before moving here.
@BrisbaneChannel: All the best in Vietnam, mate. Never been before, but Vietnam sounds good. However, read somewhere recently that they've made changes to their visa system and costs making it harder for foreigners to stay for extended periods?
@@ozzymick1431 Glad that you are doing well there mate, how is the medical facilities there compared to here? Scared of how the system might be able to cope when you get a progressive disease as you age?
@greggoldberg1518: You're spot on about your concerns about medical care. My Filipino partner had to be rushed to a private hospital 30 minutes away when she started bleeding very badly last year. Luckily they had stocks of her blood type. Long story short, turns out she had cervical cancer. She had to undergo treatment off and on for 3 months, and radiation treatment at a different hospital. She's fine now, but still attending regular 3 monthly check ups. Total cost: 197,000 pesos (AUD$5,300), funded mainly by yours truly. As for me, I'm 74 years young. I fly home every 6 months for check ups with an endocrinologist, an opthalmologist, and a cardiologist. Last visit was in December, and had the all clear, thank God! Bottom line is 1. What pre conditions do you have, if any? 2. If you have chronic ones, I suggest doing what I do and plan check ups in Aus at least annually 3. Back in the Philippines, make sure you have a local who is a good friend who can speak English well and who will help you in the event of an emergency. 4. Do some research on the better private hospitals closest to you. 5. Share your vital medical records, access to funds, names of contacts in Aus with your close friend. 6. Tell your close rellies and/or friends in Aus about your Filipino friend, including name and contact details. 7. Make sure you have easy access to at least $5,000. Other than that, enjoy the Philippines and the people here, and stay healthy
Great video, don't stress about the release schedule and thanks for the Gina B-Roll 😂😂. We are just starting out (after a false start a few years ago) at our UA-cam channel and are in Brisbane. You've helped inspire me to get it all going again!
Best of luck with your channel, and life in general! I just took a quick look and am your newest subscriber. Sorry about your recent events, but I'm sure you'll find something that's better for you, and you'll look back and be glad that things hadn't gone the way you wished for. Life tends to work like that. Might not happen quickly with the way things are though. I'm sure we'll talk down the track about how we can cooperate to grow what you're doing...
@@BrisbaneChannel absolutely would love to collaborate at some point. Definitely after your thesis is in and after I've got a regular release schedule down pat.
Pretty sure its pronounced SA-RA (as in Zara but with an S) not the name Sarah. Saying that, this the only Brisbane News I watch for my local updates - keep it going!
That traffic report does seem pretty dubious in its findings. But that can be true without contradicting the fact that traffic in Brisbane is bad and getting worse. Hopefully one day soon we wake up and realise more roads are the problem and not the solution.
I have seen a gentle shift in a positive direction over the last year in my dealings with BCC. Not sure about the other LGAs, but I'll be working more with them over the course of this year. Old habits die hard, but I feel that at least there's an increasing awareness of the need to look to adjusting our priorities.
Hi Adam, Your passion for our big country town is evident, keep up the good work. I've just read Lola in the Mirror, by Trent Dalton. Maybe you'd like to do a video in the locations referred to. Mind you, it'll be a big job, there's not much Trent didn't mention. 😉
Maybe if they make a wildly-popular series like Boy Swallows Universe, which I am yet to approach as well. Maybe a combination of the two could work. There's so much on my list, so look out when I'm done with uni!
Would you be able to make a video about Ipswich suburbs & cover the emerging places like Ripley,South Ripley & deebing heights on the next project. Thanks
One of the videos in the works is suburban renewal projects, which I'll be connecting with councils from the 5 LGAs for, an no doubt topics like this are very likely to make it into future videos from then on.
Brisbane’s house prices are decreasing? Hurrah! Probably won’t last long 😂. Hope once the new metro buses are fully out the traffic will decrease. I wonder how much the house prices will increase due to the olympics.
I'm certainly not someone with a lot of knowledge on the subject, but with talk the RBA potentially cutting interest rates sooner rather than later, I'm guessing any drop in house prices will be very short-lived. As for the traffic, the changes to the bus network BCC have planned starting this month will hopefully help, but I don't think there'll be a massive change. But RACQ's consultants seem to think it would only take a 10-15% drop in people driving to dramatically improve the flow on the roads. I think it will be more of a long-term thing, with changes to city planning, public and active transport, and even culture needed to really see radical improvement.
There's one thing that Brisbane has that Tokyo (and European and Asian cities) does not have: potholes. Also there's patches over potholes that have become potholes again. So what's the reason? Tokyo's weather is more extreme with hot summers and cold (snow) winters so it seems to me to be poor road construction here.
We are going to get summer? That would be huge news... Brisbane won't host the games as they will still be arguing over the stadium location in 2031...
Brisbane’s official should do something with area in south Brisbane where Parmalat factory is. Need to remove all that industry objects and create something similar to south bank parklands…cause it’s becoming overloaded
I can't believe Brisbane beats Bangkok on the list. How do they measure the traffic? Also there is not a single Chinese or Indian city on the list. If they added those cities in I guarantee Brisbane will drop at least 20 positions on the list.
It may not actually change things a lot, as the biggest issue is that the way they calculate it skews the results due to differences in how the various cities operate. But that's for a full video...
I feel that it would be a bit of a superficial Chinatown if they did that at Fortitude Valley, as it's no longer a cultural hub for the Chinese community. But if they gave Sunnybank a makeover, that would be a different story...
@@BrisbaneChannel Yes, it wouldn't be where the majority of Chinese restaurants, herbal stores, and other outlets would be, as over several decades Sunnybank and surrounding suburbs are where the majority of Chinese and other Asian communities have established themselves. But this isn't unique to Brisbane (ie Hurstville in Sydney, Box Hill in Melbourne, Richmond in San Francisco) . It'd be a shame if we let that historic quarter lose its original purpose.
Lol the property market will inflate out of their reach by the time the majority of them finish their education at this rate, avoid the problem (homeless) instead of address how to improve the situation? Great update mate 🙄
If you're referring to the Brisbane International, which is the annual tennis tournament held here, it ran from December 29 to January 5, so it's already over.
Well, let's hope that they finally lock in the plan at the end of this 100 day review in March. But then there'll be a lot of time for planning and approvals etc before actually getting to the point of breaking ground, even with fast-tracked approvals etc.
I really hope the HSW development doesn't go ahead. It's a great spot already with a lot of community events happening often. Demolishing the barrel hall for a hotel seems criminal.
From what I've seen, it will probably go ahead, but not without some major changes to the current design. But even in the original design, Felons was going to be incorporated into the new hotel (admittedly I haven't looked into the details of exactly how that was intended to work).
And the underlying message is that the authorities are out of contact with issues. That's why housing is so unaffordable, there's a gap between people living on tents & the youth accommodation; growing public debt but hosting the Olympics;....
Underlying problem is low rates, CGT, Negative Gearing, a housing bubble/Ponzi scheme which has hyper-inflated and was decoupled from wage growth due to bad government policies as well as immigration exceeding housing construction. Bad government policies.
Rental Market Madness! Landlords hold all the power, leaving renters helpless. Even with a great job, getting a rental is near impossible! One agent suggested showing $70,000 savings just to boost my application! Are landlords abusing their position? What's next, salary sacrifice?! #rentalcrisis #renterstruggles

The fact that it's one of Australia's fastest growing cities flies in the face of that theory. I'm not saying it's perfect, and there's no shortage of serious issues that we're facing - partly due to the rapidly growing population - but if you're going to put down a city, maybe back it up with some actual facts.
@@BrisbaneChannel I just came across many people saying they are feed up and want to live I haven't been to Brisbane beside the airport but from the videos looks like nice city so just wonder why people would want to flee 🤷♂
I think a lot of it is related to the cost of living, difficulty finding somewhere to live and perhaps losing some of the qualities that they originally liked about the place. Some complaints I've heard from long time locals is that it is becoming a different place to the place they used to know. As it grows in population, with more people coming from other cities and countries, some people feel it is losing its small town laid-back charm. It may be that the people you encountered are the ones who grew up here and are unhappy about the city changing over time.
Immigration is the main driver of rent price increases. Government imports more people so that they are always in the green on their investment properties. Almost all politicians have investment properties - including the guy who lives in a taxpayer-funded house. Disposable income is a threat to the power and wealth of the ruling class. They need everyone working 10 hours a day and not having time for political activism.
I hadn't heard of it either. It's like the lovechild of tennis and beach volleyball, and is growing in popularity here in Brisbane, apparently. www.beachtennisbrisbane.com.au/
I don't know about the others but I watch the Woolloongabba station going up and I must say, boy ! What an ugly looking station ! I was told the current 60s era looking roof will be removed when the station is finished and I truly hope it is true !!
I haven't seen how it's looking for a while. It's hard to know what anything will be like, as they keep changing things due to not settling on a clear plan. I remember a few months ago when they took funding that was originally for the Woolloongabba Station upgrade and diverted it to fund Metro extension, but that was when it looked like the Gabba would not be a part of the plan. But now, we still don't know if it will or won't. I just hope they make a clear decision at the end of their review and stick with it from that point on!
That's what a haircut will do to you. I always look best about two weeks after one. But I don't get them to cut it not so short, as it helps my budget not having them as often.
Massive enough to spend two full days and still not have a "proper" edit done! Seems you got in in the seconds before I realised I hadn't made a thumbnail and unlisted it again.
It's back now. I think over 20 things that I considered worth including for a period of just over a week was pretty massive, considering some videos made from a month's worth of material didn't have that many!
Im sorry but Brisbane looks dull like some people have said. And yes some locals who always been lived in brisbane. Your a newbie in brisbane. You havent been in brisbane all your life;. Its why to you brisbane is extrodenary and wow factor. But its not the same picture as most locals would think the same way as you. Ok... Not to say that brisbane is always terrible its not.. its that theres a lot that brisbane requires and humans need to fix that. The city itself can not fix it self up unless humans built things. How about cut off the bridges and roads. Unless you are extreme political enthusism. With all due respect i like your video content please keep it up.
Christina's situation is PNUT 2.0. The government is trash. There's not enough politically motivated people in Brisbane or Australia to care. Good luck to her. Australia is a sinking ship.

Never been before, but Vietnam sounds good. However, read somewhere recently that they've made changes to their visa system and costs making it harder for foreigners to stay for extended periods?
Not sure. I'd get a visa exemption, anyway, as my wife is Vietnamese. Although I've still got maybe 20-30 years for them to change those laws too.
@@ozzymick1431 Glad that you are doing well there mate, how is the medical facilities there compared to here? Scared of how the system might be able to cope when you get a progressive disease as you age?
@greggoldberg1518:
You're spot on about your concerns about medical care.
Bottom line is
1. What pre conditions do you have, if any?
2. If you have chronic ones, I suggest doing what I do and plan check ups in Aus at least annually
I'm pretty sure you're right. I just decided I'd pronounce it like the name, rather than going with the way they'd likely pronounce it.
It's definitely not easy under Albanese!
"is there any other possible conclusion"
Would you be able to make a video about Ipswich suburbs & cover the emerging places like Ripley,South Ripley & deebing heights on the next project.
Thanks
One of the videos in the works is suburban renewal projects, which I'll be connecting with councils from the 5 LGAs for, an no doubt topics like this are very likely to make it into future videos from then on.
Do people realise how little of Pinkenba hasn't been swallowed up by industry, including the airport?
I don't have an answer for that one!
We are going to get summer? That would be huge news... Brisbane won't host the games as they will still be arguing over the stadium location in 2031...
Haha, it kinda feels like that!
I hope so. No Brisbane person I know wants the Olympics.
@@coasterblocks3420 mate the Olympic will be great, not sure who you hang out with.
@@coasterblocks3420every one I know is looking forward to them
Brisbane’s official should do something with area in south Brisbane where Parmalat factory is. Need to remove all that industry objects and create something similar to south bank parklands…cause it’s becoming overloaded
Relocate Mayne Yard? By 2032?! I cannot see that happening and it costing less than knocking the Gabba down.
Yes, even the firm alluded to it not being a practical anymore with the time we have left.
It would be amazing to restore our Chinatown back to its traditional look and feel, just like many cities across the world.
Yes, there's always that historic significance, which would be a shame to lose entirely.
Lol the property market will inflate out of their reach by the time the majority of them finish their education at this rate, avoid the problem (homeless) instead of address how to improve the situation? Great update mate 🙄
One thing I've noticed about Brisbane, garbage public transport and we like a good stroad.
mhm sadly, buses in the city are not too bad though
Schools need to improve arithmetic too apparently.
@@gwaeron8630 yes, I know. I quickly jotted down my comment on the way to the gym.
Is the tennis tournament on in 2 january
If you're referring to the Brisbane International, which is the annual tennis tournament held here, it ran from December 29 to January 5, so it's already over.
that tradie port strike. ill give them the adive every tradie told me. 'Work Harder'.
When is the Queensland government going to break ground on the new Olympic stadium??
Well, let's hope that they finally lock in the plan at the end of this 100 day review in March. But then there'll be a lot of time for planning and approvals etc before actually getting to the point of breaking ground, even with fast-tracked approvals etc.
I really wish the olympics won’t be in Brisbane
I'm sure you're not alone in that.
Brisbane ? Worse traffic? No way. Survey’s validity is questionable
What is he doing his thesis on?
To what extent collaborative documentary films can increase awareness and challenge stigma around borderline personality disorder.

If Brisbane is such great city why most people want to run from It ?
Because it's constantly flooding
@@BrisbaneChannel yes I think you are right and spot on. I understand what they mean.
Immigration is the main driver of rent price increases. Government imports more people so that they are always in the green on their investment properties. Almost all politicians have investment properties - including the guy who lives in a taxpayer-funded house. Disposable income is a threat to the power and wealth of the ruling class. They need everyone working 10 hours a day and not having time for political activism.
beach tennis?
I hadn't heard of it either. It's like the lovechild of tennis and beach volleyball, and is growing in popularity here in Brisbane, apparently. www.beachtennisbrisbane.com.au/
thanks for all your hard work. Any info on rent controls? Cheers!
Thanks. If I hear anything, I'll be sure to share here!
I just hope they make a clear decision at the end of their review and stick with it from that point on!
thumbnail says december 2025 haha
Oops! It was rushed. Thanks, I'll fix it right away.
Your hair looks weird.
That's what a haircut will do to you. I always look best about two weeks after one. But I don't get them to cut it not so short, as it helps my budget not having them as often.
@@BrisbaneChannel Where do you go for a haircut?
@@HyperHorse Cheapest place I know of.
Brisbane desperately needs more river crossing for cars.
You forgot to add "non toll" to your wish. Because that's how you get more toll bridges, which are probably the only type in the future.
Yes, enough with the 'green bridges'.
Neither will happen
Massive?
Massive enough to spend two full days and still not have a "proper" edit done! Seems you got in in the seconds before I realised I hadn't made a thumbnail and unlisted it again.
It's back now. I think over 20 things that I considered worth including for a period of just over a week was pretty massive, considering some videos made from a month's worth of material didn't have that many!
don’t worry it’s a silly reference your content is amazing thank you
Oh, I see. In that case, the official term is apparently "enormous".
And you know what else is massive?
It's important to note that some of the toxins in the water supply are added intentionally by various governments.
Horrible vid
Why thanks!
Christina's situation is PNUT 2.0. The government is trash. There's not enough politically motivated people in Brisbane or Australia to care. Good luck to her. Australia is a sinking ship.
Massive?
Officially enormous.
