    How on earth does the driver see what is in front of the loco, with all that steam oozing out. Makes you wonder what it was like when it was all steam engines. Love the video.

    Loving the clouds of steam, yet not liking them blocking the view of Brit!
    Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Al.. It’s always a risk to film steam at Crewe with the loco originating from there however glad you enjoyed the footage. 👍

    Just subscribed for a few reasons... First off, i saw a class 87 stabled, my favourite AC electric as a teenager. Secondly, those two 47's ( I thought 47712 " Lady Diana Spencer " had been scrapped ) as i haven't seen a 47 in action since the mid 90's and lastly " Britannia " herself back in BR brunswick green !!!!.. I hope Dapol do her again in green rather than the current black livery in N gauge. Also , this would be great inspirational modelling material seeing as she's hooked up to a rake of Mk 3's...Great video !!!!

    I am genuinely curious, as an American the USA was built by rail, and we have this total fascination with steam locomotives. I don't care who you are or what you do for a living, or how many times you've seen one, everyone stops and watches it go by and marvels at the sound and power, and I curious to know if people of the UK have this same sort of reverence for steam that we have here, and no I am not saying you don't have it, or that the US is the only ones that feel that way, I am just genuinely curious if it something that we share.

      I grew up in the UK with steam locomotives and it still to this day sends tingles down my spine every time I see one now living in Canada you don't see them often, it's a shame not many were preserved at least in my location in Canada. I often used to volunteer for my local steam railway heritage line called the "Great Central Railway" back in the UK and still collect model HO railway locomotives and layout items

      I think that a steam loco is the nearest you can get to a living thing.
      You feed it coal and water and it moves effortlessly and majestically.
      The sheer power is immense and they will always continue to fascinate when viewed up close.

      Thank you for your replies. I am glad that it is something shared on both sides of the pond. I got to ride a train years ago that was pulled by a steam locomotive in Connecticut, and it is one of the coolest things I have ever done. I paid for the ticket but I almost could have just stood there and watched it depart and return over and over again.

    Why is it pulling a diesel at the rear?

    • @trainsplanes
      @trainsplanes  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Mat, the diesel is there for a few reasons - In this case, mostly to help with reverse moves at Crewe and also at Coton Hill sidings. It’s also there as an insurance policy as Network Rail issue large fines to any train operators blocking mainlines with broken down rolling stock.

      Mk3 carriages are much more comfortable than anything older. As long as the onboard facilities are suitable for the job - why does it matter?
