as someone who had mostly diesel engines, what i see as a big minus, is how much range you loose at higher speed with electric cars. my ford focus diesel can do 1278 km on a full tank according to the board computer. filling up at a gas station on the highway and driving 130-140 all the time, still gets me 1023km far. doing the same on the id3 i went from 419km to 206. as something who does 900 km trips twice a month (450km per trip) this would force me to take 40 minute breaks every 1,5 hours. the reduction of range is way more intensive with eletric cars then with diesel or petrol engines, not just due to speed, but even due to things like heating and the ac. it just feels sad and kind of wrong, to pay upgrade and premium prices, to get back to a state, which was standard for 40 years and didnt cost any dime extra. i know, batteries that size are cost intensive and thats where the prices comes from, but i feel, its the wrong part to be pricy here, if we want everyone to change to electric. id say: if electric cars in fiesta size, would do a minimum of 450km, would recharge in 10 minutes and would cost the same as a regular petrol car, we would have 80% eletric cars in 5years without applying political force. so my biggest problem isnt the range per se, its the combination of low range and charge times, because i would be totally happy, if the car could only do 100km at 130kmh, when recharging would be as fast as filling the tank with gas..
Solid state batteries and higher wattage charging might get you closer to your ideal, although the talk of doing battery swaps rather than plugging in is interesting.
