I appreciate the content. My grandparents farmed. My grandpa explained to me what you're describing. He said it is the difference between being an active environmentalist and an environmental activist. You are the former. The latter just want control over what other people do. -Steve
I agree with alot of the things you have said in your videos. In school I recieved the FFA Empire Farmer Award. So I know what your saying is on the money!
I like the idea of Sunday talks like this. I am not a farmer, but an involved consumer who enjoys learninig more about sustainable farming and how it works. Your talks often go beyond just farming and touch on personal philosophy and some interesting ideas. I say "go with it".
The sunday videos is always a blessing for us homesteaders and living the slow life. I like the market videos especially because we see the outcome of the cycle and effort you put into the farm. What ever you adjust to, I am in. I watch with a cup of coffee and early hours in the morning. I pulled out 2 chain saws after watching you cutting down 2 trees. Sharpening them up using small files and doing maintenance on them. Inspiring teaching for sure. Thanks Pete.
I say do what your heart tells you to do. You are a very passionate person, and it is what I so like about this channel. The best way to keep this channel so awesome is to keep you interested. If you are enjoying making the content, I know I will enjoy watching. Your approach to environmentalism is what has kept me here. Your approach is so thoughtful and not knee jerk emotional. I just love the mix of restoration, farming, environment, economics, historical. It always brightens my day when I see a new video up from you.
Pete, your Sunday videos will be very welcomed by the many folks farming or starting to farm. Thanks for sharing your 'pearls of wisdom' with us on your fantastic and informative channel. Blessing to you and your family as you continue to take care of the animals and land.
I am happy with any thing that you do and/or talk about. I do love to see you talking to the animals and your jokes put in a little giggle time. Thank You!
There's two types of the environment the annoying hippie ones and the ones that actually do good but still have moderation and understand what's best for the environment and economy so to speak. You are definitely the better type of environmentalist.
@@greatnorthern706 I happen to get along just fine with the "hippie ones." I've been in this business of promoting positive change for 20 years now, and found you can only show people the door; they have to walk through it themselves.
There is a third type of environmentalist...the one's who want everyone else but themselves to change. The negative aspects of political and entertainment people that demand limits on other people while they fly on private planes and drive huge Cadillac SUVs.
I'm truly enjoying learning as I watch you on your farm. Very grateful for the time you take to teach us as you go through your chores. Your animals are beautiful as is your land.
As a person that is wanting to know the ins and outs of small farming i am liking this idea. Thanks so much Pete I really appreciate you and your family's sacrifice to make these videos to help us. Yall are literally changing lives for the better. Once again thank you.
I love the fact that you identify as an environmentalist yet you recognize that farming relies on mechanical tools such as tractors that require fossil fuels to operate. I also love that you are using nature, the sun (solar), and natural mulch for fertilizer. I appreciate your honest and realistic approach to environmentalism. I wish there were more folks like you with voices on this topic. Thank you. I appreciate your videos.
The category we've settled into is "Sustainable." Making no claims of "organic" eliminates a host of problems. For example, we use locally-grown grass hay as mulch. No one around here grows hay "organically." So that alone would prevent claiming our produce is "organic". Also, certain inputs are sustainable in their production and sourcing which aren't on the "approved" OMRI list. Langbenite is a mined mineral K (Sul-Po-Mag) source but not listed since it's a fast-acting, water-soluble salt. Pelletized poultry litter is another useful, but unlisted input. The chicken feed would have to be "organic" for the litter to qualify as organic. A fellow grower (who does claim to be organic...) once told me "You just do the best you can." But that doesn't seem quite right. Like Pete says "Let the check-list tire-kickers slide." (or something to that effect...) The most important relationship is between the customer and the farmer, NOT between the farmer and any certifying organization. Word of mouth recommendations from satisfied customers are better than any number of "Organic" signs on your market table or stall.
Pete ,I can only speak for myself, you are an excellent communicator and greatly enjoy taging along even if is spreading poop, continue at your own rate with videos...
I like the Sunday talk about the small farm start up. Since I also enjoy the mechanical side of things, perhaps one Sunday a month you could dedicate to equipment. Keep up the good work!
This would be a great format for Sunday videos. I was raised on a farm, cows hay and peanuts. I farmed through the nineties, left the farm for 17 years, now I am back. The land I have now is smaller. I am doing some hay that I sell to my sister and brother-in-law for their cows. I have been looking into raising hens to sell eggs and do some gardening to sell tomatoes, okra, etc. fro a roadside market. These Sunday videos will help in my process. Thank you for your time and what you do.
I LOVE the idea of Sunday Small Farmer Symposiums.... your straight-talk on the cattle enterprise is incredibly helpful and I'm looking forward to the next installment!
"I want to leave this place in healthier shape than when I got it" - if it wasn't such a dirty game, I'd suggest your run for elected office. Our nation NEEDS people like you making decisions on our behalf.
Thanks Pete. I guess I must be your target audience. I like the mix between you talking about tractors, farm management and just day to day farming. Thanks
I Wouldn't mind seeing a video of your market day to show the interaction of the Farmer and those that trust in your products. We used the "Honor" system for sales until theft became a issue and had to stop. And with me being a care giver to my wife i couldn't leave the farm for more than a couple hours so i miss those days of seeing and making friends on Market days. Market day is one of the oldest ways to interact between a Farmer and a happy eater and it can be a lot of work but a lot of fun, especially at the end of the day when you load those empty trays and bins back in the truck and walk lop sided because of the money in your pockets.
Hello and good morning Rock Hill. How is the work going toward sorting out your farm and preparing to move off of it? I recently sold off all my farm equipment and got out of farming for good. We have someone else doing the field work so the equipment wasn’t getting worked any longer. Didn’t make sense to hang on to it. Hope it works out for you and you’re able to get the value and worth of all your farm equipment and implements. Cheers! Whipple
I really enjoy all of your videos and appreciate all of the information and hard work that you put into them. From explaining how your farm equipment works and also telling us how you operate your farm. You are really an inspiration for me to start a small farm one day
This format made for a great Sunday video! Another idea for a Sunday would be to show us some footage of your experience at the farmer's market (though I recognize that could be very challenging to take).
I love this idea because even though we have had our farm for years (layers, horses, goats) , we are in our first year of real farming! Love your videos and information.
I really enjoy you MD restoration videos, almost as much as hearing your views on things. It teaches me, help me see things another way even when I don’t agree. I like the idea of Sunday discussions. I always find your point of view quite interesting and sensible. Thanks Pete.
Information is my favorite part of your channel. Do the Sunday videos. I know you live in the well watered north east but if you wanted an idea and something to research, do a video on raising cattle with mob grazing in a semi-arid environment.
Mr. Pete. ...you and your lovely wife are a light in this world right now! I’ve enjoyed all of your videos, jokes and all! Loved the history ones about family..the heritage you’ve been given , but mostly your grounded values of hard work and family. Very much like mine....Much appreciation and love ..Peggy
I like the direction that you want to go. You could even announce the next weeks topic and select 2-4 questions that we would write in for you to answer. Just a thought .
I love the new Sunday video idea. I’m hoping to start my own small farm soon. The more you share the better. Truly appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Me, personally, i think youre doing a great job running your farm! Its all in the end flavor of the animals you are raising. Well raised Beef, Pork, or Chicken and turkeys taste best and will never let you down when it comes to healthy eating!
At my age I'll never be starting a small farm but I never miss your videos. I enjoy it all. Your talky videos are just as interesting as the chores (i love watching the chores!). I like how you speak a couple of paragraphs in one place, then seamlessly switch venues. Maybe for some segments, aim the camera at chickens or cows or pigs - or the grass growing - while you speak, just to change things up. I'll learn something new, and get a dose of the animals, too.
Believe it or not many of us enjoy the day to day of you, the farmer who has a good sense of humor... 🤣 doing your work and giving us an education on tractors and livestock and the environment! You have a beautiful family and I am glad that they are growing up around the farm and I hope they continue on with your work! God bless you all and I hope you prosper beyond your wildest dreams!
I appreciate your insight on things so for sure, I would support your Sunday chats. I would really like to know more about what you looked for when you bought your cattle as well as how you see genetics of the breed and the cattle to your style of farming/selling. I know you have done a couple of similar videos but it is important for your expertise as it relates to people considering the jump. Also, if you could tell us what other animals you considered and ruled out for your farm, like sheep or goats, and your reasoning? Thanks again Pete for giving your viewers such great insight
HI there from NZ Pete. I really enjoy the farm talks. I really like hearing about running your farm and how you do it, struggles, high points, mistakes and ALL! I have learned do much listening to these videos. I don't mind hearing the same thing again and again as that reinforces the point for me. Thank you so much for your time and effort. And, that includes Hillary and your children.
👍Great videos. The heart felt, in-depth, honest, and entertaining style you have is so appreciated. A Sunday Q and A would be great. Your experience and wisdom have been so insightful in our own Homestead. Thank you.
Got a copy of your book loved it! You actually inspired me months ago to start with broiler chickens. Told some family and boom their sold and their not 2 weeks old! Felt something was missing when my family and I moved in off the farm, Truly inspired.
Your Sunday video idea sounds great. I'm past the age of starting a small farm, but I spent much of my childhood doing the things that you do, mainly for family consumption and barter goods with neighbors. Your videos do inspire me to grow my small town backyard garden. Thank you.
We moved back to my husband's family farm in 2019. I consider us beginning small farmers and we have a very similar model, but have a ways to go yet. Love to learn from other farmers who have been there and done that and made it work--this is invaluable info. so thank you!
Pete, love all the content, the farm, the tractor rebuild and even the Dad jokes, work around your schedule and show us what you do when you do no need to make content for us. I will watch for your wisdom and appreciate the new walk and take style.
Love the Sunday video. What you do really dovetails what we do. We have an old Gehl feed grinder and I grind a little feed for some of my neighbors. I love to do it. We do a lot of our own butchering an make most of our sausage with recipes 5 generations old maybe older. It really is a great way to live. The best part is I learn something new all the time. I always learn something new with every video you do. I am very grateful for your knowledge. I can go on and on. I pray for your success and look forward to your next presentation.
Pete, many thanks for this video and all the information given. I’m currently starting a small farm (not in the US) and your video are very useful to show me how things can be done elsewhere. Please carry on this ‘new type’ of Sunday video.
I recently found your channel and I truly enjoy learning from you and your wife. I could be bias as I have a cousin who was and architect and a daughter who is an RN. I like this new Sunday format as it let's me focus on what you are saying, instead of dividing my attention between taking in what is going on and learning from your wisdom.
I appreciate your farm business videos. It is an area where I am inexperienced. It is not necessarily the fun part of farming but certainly required to have a sustainable farm into old age. Thank you
Enjoyed this Pete. Always good to have options on the table. I enjoy learning about your operation you have. Thanks for sharing. Iowa is watching 58 degrees
I love to watch whatever you put up. If I need my big tractor fix I can watch the Welkers. Keep it up Pete and don’t forget to film when you let your cows out to the green fields.
Good idea. Can you discuss these items in up coming talks: property tax, value of land for sale based on farm size, rental costs for additional land and is it worth the cost to make additional profit, government grants you can get, how many hours a day you work, health care coverage, deductions you are able to create, is there an underground cash economy small farms run on, have you ever been audited or do you know any one who has been tax audited, what your plans are when you get too old to farm, why your 100% fed with your feed wagon chickens and pigs are better than factory farms that use the same feed and your operating cost not including your labour.
I think it’s an incredible idea. Thank you for answering any questions I have with your videos Pete. Love the content. You’ve gotten me through a rough year. All the best.
Hi from NWOregon. I found your channel just 2 months ago but have been back through the archives. I’ve really enjoyed your channel and find the informative videos very interesting. My hope is that others that wish to choose your path find you channel. My backstory is of a young man leaving a Hereford cow/calf farm after high school in the early 70’s. I left to make my way in life but the farm never left me. After retiring I’ve found an outlet helping sometimes on a small family farm. This has given me a route to spring grass fat beef. It can’t be beat. Thanks for the videos and thumbs up to the “new” Sunday version. Keep on farming and I’ll keep on watching.
That sounds like a great format for your Sunday videos. I am an aspiring tiny farm farmer. I've got some animals but I am still in the phase of, "do I really like all this work enough to scale up and try to make money?" Watching your videos helps me feel like I could enjoy this work, after I gain skill and some of the upfront infrastructure is finished. Thank you.
When I have people preach to my about saving the planet I just simply answer " I have lived that way my whole life. To me it's just life. What are you doing?" I appreciate your common sense approach that I once thought was something everyone had. Now I know some need to learn it. Sunday topics - business of farming... money saving ideas and projects... marketing ideas and know how... on farm store setup and how to create the environmentfor customers... big thing I see people do is jump into farm tours, petting zoo type settings, and on sit sales with no insurance, so an idea of insurance needed and the liability you have to take on would be great... tractor capability, what you really need in a tractor as far as hp and weight/size, and loader to get things done on a small farm, not what the tractor dealer tells you you have to have, and implement options to get it done, such as hay, manure management, pulling wagons, and so on... just to name a few topics 😊. Keep up the good work.
Amazing video, and I love the concept. We just bought 2.5 acres and I'm hoping to start raising chickens, pigs, and maybe lambs, so this kind of video is just what I'm looking for!
This is a great video! A good Sunday video would be one with your poultry process room showing the equipment that is needed and the steps that are involved.
Love the Sunday plan Pete. I have seen all your videos and really don't mind hearing it all again. Often things change over time, you may not think about it at the time, or I will need to hear it a few times for it to sink in. All good stuff. As many have stated, it's a great way to relax with a cuppa on my Monday mornings. I'd love to see some details on your market stand and thoughts on farm gate sales. Being in New Zealand, I don't get much from the legal stuff but love hearing about it, just the same. Thanks for your time Pete, much appreciated.
As always Pete, I enjoy your videos. You are right about one thing people have a misconception that farming is all about the tractors and it’s not. There is a lot of hand labor most people know nothing about. Are used to live on a small farm of about 60 acres for 25 years and moved off the farm 10 years ago, if I would’ve known now and listen to your videos I would’ve tried the same thing that you’re doing. Good luck and hope everything continues to work out as seems like you have a plan and know how to implement it!
Hey. We are a new found small farmer that just became amature you tubers not too long ago. We are building our farm much like yours and we have been following your channel for quite some time. Thank you so much for all your information, we really really appreciate you spelling this all out for us. Gives us something to think about. Awesome video! Love the Sunday chats!
Great content. I am really happy you are reducing the pesticide/herbicide load on the environment. I am much more concerned for these products than the GMO feed. A Sunday suggestion could be how you chose which structures to construct/renovate on the farm... what were your needs/wants for buildings? Thanks and keep up the amazing videos!
Love the Sunday format. Honestly, it’s enough just to spend time with you and the family and the farm. I would be interested in a video on managing your woodland. You heat exclusively using wood. How do you know how often you can cut wood without exhausting what nature can provide?
I love the Sunday Video concept for beginning small farmers. I'm Trying to start a small farm "chickens and pigs" , in Oklahoma and I am lost. I don't know what to focus on, so I find myself jumping from project to project. Thanks for he videos, that are all helpful.
This is great, talking about small farm issues is important for both the producer and consumer. Consumers need to learn about what it takes producers to provide. That is a hugely important discussion because too many consumers are not aware of anything when it comes to animal production or even fruit and vegetable production.
I appreciate the content. My grandparents farmed. My grandpa explained to me what you're describing. He said it is the difference between being an active environmentalist and an environmental activist. You are the former. The latter just want control over what other people do.
-Steve
Excellent point your grandpa was making and even more relevant today!

I have a whale of a lot of respect for your integrity, ingenuity, risk-taking and environmentalism!

I have a small farm my self 29 ac of hay and cows and chickens its a lot of work!!! God Bless ya buddy nice Job !!
I think this was a fine format for Sunday videos. Things must be getting busier each week on the farm so this is a nice way to stay in touch.

Thanks for sharing buddy I understand if you need extra time between videos don’t burn yourself out my friend take care buddy god bless
Great info and idea! Looking forward to the Sunday talks :)
Just ordered your book. I can't wait to read it, I appreciate all of your insights and how you share your knowledge
I appreciate your farm business videos. It is an area where I am inexperienced. It is not necessarily the fun part of farming but certainly required to have a sustainable farm into old age. Thank you
I love this format!! I had researched some of this information. And even asked you about some of this! Thank you again!
I love this idea for Sunday videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Good idea. Can you discuss these items in up coming talks: property tax, value of land for sale based on farm size, rental costs for additional land and is it worth the cost to make additional profit, government grants you can get, how many hours a day you work, health care coverage, deductions you are able to create, is there an underground cash economy small farms run on, have you ever been audited or do you know any one who has been tax audited, what your plans are when you get too old to farm, why your 100% fed with your feed wagon chickens and pigs are better than factory farms that use the same feed and your operating cost not including your labour.
i love the Sunday video series! i'm here for knowledge. Thanks for sharing yours.
Thank you.
Great idea! Sunday Morning Coffee with Pete and Just A Few Acres Farm :)
As newbies I think this would be both helpful and entertaining. We appreciate your experience, insight and willingness to share.
Amazing video, and I love the concept. We just bought 2.5 acres and I'm hoping to start raising chickens, pigs, and maybe lambs, so this kind of video is just what I'm looking for!
Doing a “Just a few acres”, binge today ... also, I bought the book lol. Great stuff!
I like your idea of Sunday talks. I hope to have a small homestead someday and may try expanding it to offer products to the public.
Really enjoyed the video. Thank you for all the work you do and the information you put out for everyone.
Great question
I love your idea for Sunday videos it's exactly what I needed to hear thank you
We are just getting our farm started (6 months in) and videos like this are so helpful!
I love the Sunday Video concept for beginning small farmers. I'm Trying to start a small farm "chickens and pigs" , in Oklahoma and I am lost. I don't know what to focus on, so I find myself jumping from project to project. Thanks for he videos, that are all helpful.
Wonderful video !!!..... All my family farmed the old way and when hard times came in the 80's they survived.
Always welcome a farm education video! Enjoyed this video!
This is great, talking about small farm issues is important for both the producer and consumer. Consumers need to learn about what it takes producers to provide. That is a hugely important discussion because too many consumers are not aware of anything when it comes to animal production or even fruit and vegetable production.
Pete,
Greetings from Wisconsin. Great idea for Sunday videos. I really enjoyed this one and look forward to the next.
Pyke

I love the new Sunday content! I think it’s perfect!
