I’m begging…. BEGGING you to make lists like this for other seasons, specifically winter bc I feel like most recs are Christmas themed but then we got January and February to get thru and I need books to make me like winter and I trust you with my life
I HIGHLY recommend reading the winternight trilogy during winter! The first book is called the bear and the nightingale. It takes place in Russia during (you guessed it) winter and has amazing folky, fairytale, warming yourself by the fire in the dead of winter type vibes. It is easily one of my favorite series!!
I almost cried when you wished us southern hemisphereien folk a happy spring. I see people celebrating autumn and wishing a happy autumn whilst I'm here with the daisies just 🥲
We LOVE the Margaret Rogerson SUPREMECY on this channel, Cari... I'll NEVER get sick of hearing you talk about her books, because having read both of them and since I'm OBSESSED with both, I completely agree with everything you always say. 💗💗
Thanks for the recognition Cari 😅 I found out a few months ago that the southern hemisphere population is only 12% of the total so I understand why we usually keep getting forgotten lol, love my October spring none the less though 🌸, and love YOU and your recs always!! ❤️ Hope you have a wonderful and magical time back home ✨🥰
I just finished Spells for Forgetting and I loved the atmosphere she created!! So fall and I just love how she describes everything. Adrienne is for sure one of my favorite authors and every book she has written is just magical❤️
This is the first time in my life (I'm 25) that I'm experiencing Autumn and I'm here for anything and everything autumn related so this video is just perfection 👌🏻👌🏻
Sooooo excited for the betrayals since the binding has become one of my favourite books ever, I really wanna go back to Bridget Collin's writing style!
the girl who fell beneath the sea was such a pleasant surprise!! it got me out of my reading slump and i definitely felt like rereading it straight away, too 😂 have you read "the dead romantics"? it's a romance, but it's got ghosts and crows and graveyards?
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society for me is the ultimate cozy read. I saw the movie first and loved it, and then read the book and loved it even more (they are really different). It takes place after world war 2 in the Guernsey Islands, it has romace, friendship, heartbreak, and more.
The best book to add to this list is Margaret Rogerson's new book Vespertine. The autumnal vibes were so strong with this one and the story was wonderful as well. I really recommend it
I just read Enchantment of Ravens because of you and it was a DELIGHT! not quite what I was expecting - but absolutely hilarious and sweet and I absolutely adored the reading experience
i love A History of Wild Places! i would explain it as the movie Midsommar but without all of the violence. it really is a psychological thriller with a touch of magical realism and i love how the book dives into group psychology and how being so separated from society can influence groupthink and individual motivations! if you like psychological thrillers, it's definitely for you. (also has some baller quotes!)
Spells for Forgetting was so good! It felt very atmospheric even if it was a bit predictable at times. I hadn’t read anything from the author before but I really enjoyed the writing style so I may need to pick up Fable
the amount of blind trust i put in you is insane. i just ordered all the books off your list i could afford and i just know i'm gonna love them. thank you cari xx
i have never seen anyone speak about the betrayals before and your take on it has completely changed mine! after hearing about how you enjoyed the fact that it was purposefully had to understand the grand jeu made me realise that i was definitely being too critical in my way of trying to figure it out 😅
i adore an enchantment of ravens but i honestly got more spring vibes because a good chunk of the book is spent in the spring court. i haven’t gotten around to sorcery of thorns yet but it’s definitely a priority!
Autumn is the best season. It's a good one for fantasy. Going old school I think Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander is just the perfect Autumnal fantasy!
Hi Cari, I just finished Wicked Deep, and am starting Winterwood. I really like Shea Ernshaw's style so I guess I'll be onto A History of Wild Places next! I'm hooked! This is the best season for cozy reading ☕🍂📚!! Thx! All the best ❤️
Not related to today's video but I'm reading Human Acts because of your recommendation and I'm devastated. It's a great book, but I hope it has an ending that somehow gives me hope. 🙏
As someone who lives in the Pacific Northwest I adored Spells For Forgetting! I actually read it because I saw you were reading it. It's kinda reminiscent of Every Summer After by Carley Fortune in terms of plot but I'm a sucker for adults rekindling childhood romances 🙈 I'm now making my way through One Dark Window which you might be into!
personally i could not finish a far wilder magic because the world-building was soooo loose and messy i got distracted trying to understand the hows/wheres/whens 😭 and also (not that this is a bad thing at all) but im fully convinced it is a fullmetal alchemist brotherhood fanfiction
Omg I was just reading this last night and I’m only on chapter two but I had to set it down because I was overwhelmed by all the world building. I’m hoping it gets better?
Highly recommend the Kingdom of Runes series by Audrey Grey, first book is 'Oath Taker'. Kick ass girl vibes with an enemies to lovers romance. Trope inversion - girl goes on quest to save boy, and the villain is my absolute favourite character! She also has another series: Evermore Academy - first book is 'Evermore Academy: Winter' (the books in order are: Winter, Spring & Summer - no Autumn sorry hahah) - again kick ass girl vibes, enemies to lovers romance, you basically become friends with all the characters in this series, it's great and gives me mild harry potter school life vibes but with all the angst. Breezed through both series mentioned, couldn't put the books down. Would be amaaaazing to see you review these!
Cariii!!!! When I saw A far wilder magic in the thumbnail I just knew I had to recommend this at least once. Please watch full metal alchemist brotherhood - it is an anime and a far wilder magic is kinda based off it a lot of people seem to think that it is actually a fanfiction for two of the characters from full metal alchemist brotherhood. I just know you'll love it, it's my all time favorite show like ever, if you enjoyed the world, the magic system and the characters in A far wilder magic please give full metal alchemist brotherhood a try, it also has a manga (technically just a ghrapic novel) by the same name incase you wanted to read the story instead. Also love you haha
Part of why I think A Far Wilder Magic didn't go very in-depth with the world etc is because it originated as a fanwork from Fullmetal Alchemist (it's very much it's own work, but the ties are very present in the main characters, world, and magic system)
Oh yes fable!! So fantastic :) truthfully amazing!! Adrienne young is one of those authors almost every book is a hit for me, maybe not exactly unique but good reads i can fall into I have a history of wild places i got from BOTM, its on my tbr(ive switched to primarily kindle books lately though) Im curious about a sorcery of thorns, ill have to get it on my kindle.. and blame it on you! I still need to read girl who fell, its on my tbr.. i read six crimson cranes and then kinda got occupied.. The leaves are already turned here in maine ;)
I have read a few of these and definitely have added a few more! You should check out Ordinary Monsters - gothic horror fantasy - mad Halloween/dark academia vibes and it is such a ride so far!
So this recommendation is arguably a book for young teens, BUT I love it and re-read it for the dark/stormy fall vibes. The Folk Keeper by Franny Billingsley is a treasure and a quick/easy read at 162 pages, great for a reading slump. Summary from Amazon: “Corinna is a Folk Keeper. Her job is to keep the mysterious Folk who live beneath the ground at bay. But Corinna has a secret that even she doesn't fully comprehend, until she agrees to serve as Folk Keeper at Marblehaugh Park, a wealthy family's seaside manor. There her hidden powers burst into full force, and Corinna's life changes forever...” it’s angsty, there’s incredible sass from the main character, and has some thriller vibes too.
A couple of my favorite fantasy books are by Carolyn Turgeon. Mermaid and Fairest of Them All. They are twists on the little mermaid and Rapunzel. I definitely suggest checking them out. I was completely absorbed in them! :)
I read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman because of one of your recommendations, and it was autumn, that week was super foggy and the vibes where there for me. Super recomend it as a cute autumn read!
I was looking for a halloween/autumn read so thank you for this! I watched your last year's and still reading some of those, you have excellent taste 💜
I would also recommend Wardstone Chronicles by Joseph Delaney, Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan, Gotrek and Felix by William King and Legend of Drizzt by R.A. Salvatore (:
Yes for Echantment of Ravens, the fae prince or whatever was from the autumn court, I think it's also kinda creepy and creepy is always fall vibes for me lol.
Hi Cari! Thank you for this video, I have only read 3 comics so far this in month and I'm looking foward any fantasy and autumn vibes books to read for the rest of this month.
adding all of these to my reading list (or, well, the stuff that wasn't already there asdfghjkl) and looking forward to reading them! love getting into the autumn spirit, i went out and grabbed a couple of conkers to put on my shelf 🍂
oh I read years ago a manhwa called bride of the water God with a similar story. I lost track of collecting it past volume 3 but it was so beautifully illustrated.
I read it too!!! I loved it so much. I read the The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea and actually was pretty disappointed, not because the main character and the plot aren't the same but because the world just lacked the same kind of mystique and darkness that the manhwa had.
I love it when you use this 🎤 🎙 microphone. The sound is so crisp. I also like when you sit closer to the screen (e.g. with the mirror in the background). This new fabric poster and the tea make this setup very cosy and interesting, too. But I prefer the setups where its more of a midshot. Could you share what kind of mic that is? I really like that mic 😄. Hope your travels are going well. Safe trip!
Hi Cari! I absolutely love your theme recommendation videos! Spells For Forgetting is my first Adrienne Young and I enjoyed it so much! I can’t wait to dive into Fable. You mentioned it’s like a story you have already read before, could you recommend some books that gave you similar vibes? I am living for thissss right now and just want more. Wicked Deep is next up!
A Dowry of Blood by S T Gibson is an amazing book for autumn, the writing is so lush and beautiful. It's about Dracula and his lovers, it's dark and explicit and it deals with abuse (so definitely not for everyone).
I loved THE WICKED DEEP, but I didn’t like A HISTORY OF WILD PLACES, which I read earlier this year. I definitely want to read A FAR WILDER MAGIC at some point. Spooky book recs: THE GATHERING DARK: AN ANTHOLOGY OF FOLK HORROR edited by Tori Bovalino (YA Horror), THE GIRLS ARE NEVER GONE by Sarah Glenn Marsh (YA Paranormal/Supernatural Thriller), THE HACIENDA by Isabel Canas (Adult Supernatural Horror, which I think you may have already read, but I’ll leave it here anyway), and SUMMER’S EDGE by Dana Mele (YA supernatural thriller). If you like Middle Grade Fantasy, THE GINGERBREAD WITCH by Alexandra Overy is super cute!
hey Cari! I read a new book recently called The Foe by Iain Reid and omg I would recommend you try it and share your thoughts, bc I definitely have a lot! It's a shortish psychological suspense ya kinda book and the end is pretty surprising. The read itself definitely gives you the sense something is off, but it's hard to tell exactly what until the end. Try it out if you have time!
i've always felt like Summer of Salt is an autumn read, even when there's literary summer in the title. but the practical magic vibes scream autumn to me.
I just read "As long as the Lemon trees grow" by Zoulfa Katouh and idk somehow I think you would like it? I will definitely check out these recommendations.
I just read The Very Secret society of Irregular witches and it was just so cosy and heartwarming, a perfect cosy autumn read. It's like The House in the Cerulean Sea but about witches 🥰🥰 before that I fid a reread of Sorcery of Thorns, soo good 😍😍 I have Shea Earnshaw Winterwood but havent read it yet, saving it for December. Right now I'm reading The Picture of Dorian Grey, Then I'll read Magic Lessons, Wild is the Witch, Garden Spells, The Witchs Heart and end October eith Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson. Have you read Vespertine?
My FAVORITE Halloween-y book by far is Interview with the Vampire but it’s a little hard to recommend 😅 it’s one of those that I feel like I am the only one that understands it lol
I’m begging…. BEGGING you to make lists like this for other seasons, specifically winter bc I feel like most recs are Christmas themed but then we got January and February to get thru and I need books to make me like winter and I trust you with my life
My winters are sci-fi themed because there's nothing colder than the vacuum of space
Ohhh a fantastic idea!!!
Spinning Silver is a good winter book! The audiobook especially is absolutely fantastic and the story is very atmospheric.
I suggest Snow country! Beautiful
I almost cried when you wished us southern hemisphereien folk a happy spring. I see people celebrating autumn and wishing a happy autumn whilst I'm here with the daisies just 🥲

happy autumn haha 🍂
@@stephaniecrossman2864 yup. Happy autumn 🍂 😆

"both" ? she has three!! please read vespertine asap it's so good
Yessss 💕💕💕
I’m so relieved I’m not the only one getting autumn vibes from The Wicked Deep
It definitely satisfied my itch for a witchy Halloween story!
Yes!! Very hocus pocus meets practical magic lol
I was literally on your channel looking for a video to rewatch and then YOU UPLOADED AHH
I do this🤭

I'm reading Sorcery of Thorns right now and really enjoying it, I feel like it'll become a comfort book for me 💘
Yay! I’m so glad 🥹
Sorcery of Thorns is one of the best books I have read 😍
YES!
Thanks for the recognition Cari 😅 I found out a few months ago that the southern hemisphere population is only 12% of the total so I understand why we usually keep getting forgotten lol, love my October spring none the less though 🌸, and love YOU and your recs always!! ❤️

Omg enjoy 😍😍😍😍
Sooooo excited for the betrayals since the binding has become one of my favourite books ever, I really wanna go back to Bridget Collin's writing style!
Yes! It wasnt as strong as the binding but definitely beautiful!
I have read both An Enchantment of Ravens and A Sorcery of Thorns. They are both wonderful! I would also lean more towards A Sorcery of Thorns.
the girl who fell beneath the sea was such a pleasant surprise!! it got me out of my reading slump and i definitely felt like rereading it straight away, too 😂
have you read "the dead romantics"? it's a romance, but it's got ghosts and crows and graveyards?
Yes! I’ll talk about it in my September reading wrap up 💀
I agree with EVERYTHING that you said about Spells For Forgetting. The atmosphere of that book was beautiful.
ahhhhhh the cozy autumn vibesssss of the intro?!?!? i literally can't it's just soo goodddd 🍂☕🍁
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society for me is the ultimate cozy read. I saw the movie first and loved it, and then read the book and loved it even more (they are really different). The best book to add to this list is Margaret Rogerson's new book Vespertine. The autumnal vibes were so strong with this one and the story was wonderful as well. I really recommend it

You're going to ADORE once upon a river! Small town in maine and a girl's body floats thro the river. 3 people claim the girl is theirs
Spells for Forgetting was so good! It felt very atmospheric even if it was a bit predictable at times. I hadn’t read anything from the author before but I really enjoyed the writing style so I may need to pick up Fable
Fable is such fun!!
Girl who fell beneath the sea gave me such studio ghibli vibes! i loved reading
💕💕💕
Spells for Forgetting has been popping up everywhere this past week and I'm feeling like it's a sign from the universe to get my hands on it.
Yes it just came out!!!
the amount of blind trust i put in you is insane. i just ordered all the books off your list i could afford and i just know i'm gonna love them. thank you cari xx
i have never seen anyone speak about the betrayals before and your take on it has completely changed mine! after hearing about how you enjoyed the fact that it was purposefully had to understand the grand jeu made me realise that i was definitely being too critical in my way of trying to figure it out 😅
Hahha yeah i was frustrated but it was so beautifully (vaguely) described that i decided not to mind 😂😂😂
my tbr expands once again~
my autumn rec is the gathering dark: an anthology of folk horror, i’m reading it rn AMAZING spooky vibes for october
😍🖤😍🖤
Ok this is the best fall book recs with a splash of magical realism video I’ve ever seen
Love to heard you talk. Your voice is sooooo calming, It brings me peace and relaxation.
I'm listening to A Far Wilder Magic, and I just finished The Wicked Deep! Love all of these fall recs

i adore an enchantment of ravens but i honestly got more spring vibes because a good chunk of the book is spent in the spring court. i haven’t gotten around to sorcery of thorns yet but it’s definitely a priority!
I love An enchanment of ravens so much! Rereading it for the 3rd time.

The apothecary/alchemy moment 😂 you paused and I was nodding my head bc I knew exactly what you meant but couldn't think of the word either
Autumn is the best season. It's a good one for fantasy. Going old school I think Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander is just the perfect Autumnal fantasy!
Ohhh i will have to look that one up 👀
@@caricanread It's old school, but one of the best I think! Published in the early 70s.
