If I viewed this as an action franchise I'd put it at #1. 4. AVP- If I viewed this as an action franchise I'd put this at #2. Wide gulf between 1 and 2 though. 5. Yo.. 1. Alien - it starts the ball rolling and sets up Aliens 2. Aliens - just great screenplay and so many memorable dialog lines. Brilliant actors. "One way elevator to hell! Goin' DOWN!" 3. Alien 4 - loved it. They missed the point of Ripley 8. She was the bio weapon; her acid blood made her immune to the face huggers, as the embryo couldn't survive in that acidic level; she was useful as an android to them, while able to interact with them telepathically. The ending sucked.. AVP 1 & 2. Loved them. I could watch them again and again easily. The Wolf predator was worth it. It's fun seeing the Predators hunt something other than us and the Pred-Alien was a handful, along with the drones to take on. The weapons? Badass! Up there with Blade. Prometheus and Covenant. Ridley Scott should've stopped. They were awful. The cast were good.. the plot was dumb. Vickers get run over by a ship shaped as wheel.. Face palm moment. Dumb. I wanted my money and time back on those two films, it was that awful. Alien 3 can join Prometheus and Covenant. Haven't watched these three since they were released.
8. AVP Requiem. Literally unwatchable and the only Alien film I actually hate. 7. Alien Resurrection. The tone for this one was way too weird, but I'd still watch it if it came on TV. 6. Prometheus. An interesting concept but with its flaws. 5. Alien Covenant. Has more Alien but too much David. 4. AVP. Probably the best AvP film we'll ever get. 3. Aliens. Controversial placement, I know, but it dumbed down the Aliens to mere bugs and took away the horror. But I love the characters and the Queen. 2. Alien 3. VERY controversial pick, but it brang back the horror and the bleak atmosphere exemplifies the overall nihilistic tone of the series as a whole. 1. Alien. It introduced us to the Alien and its Lovecraftian Horror hasn't been matched yet in the franchise.
It’s a abomination should never have been made that wasent ripley it was a copy not the same and since when does the queen give birth to a human alien hybrid she lays EGGS and sorry but you talk garbage mate it’s NOT GOOD and to werid
I disagree with your view of AVP2, the edginess isnt really so as it immediately contextualises the threat level, is also the only movie where aliens get loose in a populated area, it is well written, and is a great nod to the original source material for both properties.
I don't know if this is controversial but i gotta say that despite Aliens being a very good movie I don't really like it as a sequel to Alien. The original xenomorph was supposed to be a force of nature that trancended human comprehension, aliens turned the xenomorphs into bugs, something that could be understood and crushed. They even got a queen that lays all the eggs, I always preferred the deleted scene from the original movie that showed one of the crew members being turned into an egg. It explained their reproductive system in a more frightening and imaginative way.
Interesting I never really thought about it in that way before, I guess for me personally that’s exactly one of things that makes it a perfect sequel for me, the fact that It added to lore in a way that felt logical and true to first movie, it never felt like big mystery as to what the xenomorph was other than it of course being Alien it was more a mystery of where they came from and the reveal that they have the ability to breed made them feel like more of threat to me . The bug comparison is pretty on point but again to me it’s what makes them more creepy and less human, Id much rather have to deal with a cockroach than a xenomorph any day 😂 I’ve never heard about that deleted scene from the first film before so I will definitely be checking that out, Thanks for watching! 👍
Very very interesting point of view. The line "(it) was supposed to be a force of nature that trascended human comprehension" reveals the deep meaning of the first movie. At the end, when the xenomorph is sent to the space, Ripley doesn't know anything at all about what it was, only knows that the danger is gone. But please note that this idea of the alien as a bug appears in other parts of the franchise, specially in Alien Covenant. The most turnover point is, in my opinion, when you shows that someone created and manipulated them as if they were puppets. No need to show that.
I love Aliens, I adore it, but I've always secretly hated the introduction of the alien queen. Giger's alien is the stuff of nightmares because of how alien it is. Cameron turned it into a bug, which works great for the story and Ripley's character arch, but it trivialises the horror at the core of the story.
@kingbrandis1 I think the deleted scene appears in the directors cut of the movie if you're interested. Also, I'm pretty sure xenomorphs being able to turn humans into new eggs is still cannon, so both methods of reproduction exist at the same time.
My personal list goes thusly 8) AVP Requiem(agree with you here this is bleh. This one really showed why it was a bad idea to set AVP in modern times rather than in the same timeframe as Alien/Aliens) 7) Alien Resurrection (This one is just Whiskey Tango Foxtrot) 6) Alien 3 (There are some tech issues but I can forgive it for those, but killing off two characters that I liked off screen killed the movie for me stone dead.) 5) Alien Covenant (The stupid! It burns!!!) 4) Prometheus (This one I'm kinda meh about. IMO it's barely an Alien movie) 3) Alien vs Predator (A fun movie to turn your brain off and watch but not much more) Now for the last two they are so close as to be almost a coin toss. What decided my opinion was I am not really a horror fan. (Alien and John Carpenters The Thing are the only ones I really watch regularly) so. 2) Alien (Great haunted house/body horror movie and, IMO, a true classic.) 1) Aliens (The greatest sequel of all time that showed HOW to make a good sequel while keeping what made the original great. Quotable lines, characters we actually care about, it's got it all)
The first act of Alien is epic and will never be recreated, but Aliens as a whole is non-stop horror and action. When Ripley rocks up in the loader. DAYUM!
It's a toss up....one is horror/suspense, the other is horror/action/suspense. I'd slightly favour the sequel.....I watched them both the last two nights after buying the anthology set.....but I love both.
In Alien, a single xenomorph is able to hunt down and kill a crew single handedly. Additionally, Ash is another hidden antagonist with the aid of the company behind him. Multiple tiers of horror, not including the seclusion and being trapped in deep space. In Aliens, the marines are killed mostly by their own incompetence. xenomorphs are mowed down by sentry guns, which is a cool scene, but it lessens the threat the xenomorphs were and reduces them to big bugs. The scariest xenomorphs look in Aliens is when there's only one on the screen, like the dropship and when Burke runs off. I think Alien will always be the superior film. Aliens is a good action film that just happens to have xenomorphs in it.
Mine are: 8. Alien 3 (hate) 7. Alien vs Predator Requiem (dislike, but would rewatch) 6. Alien Resurrection (some things to enjoy, but would rewatch) 5. Alien Covenant (things to enjoy, would rewatch) 4. Alien vs Predator (bad but fun, comfort movie) 3. Prometheus (enjoyed it, good new ideas) 2. Alien (love it) 1. Aliens (love it, favourite movie) Reasoning is: 8. Only watched Alien 3 once, and found it deeply upsetting (swore never to watch it again), hated the way they treated Ripley, Newt and Hicks. 7. Just a bad movie and pretty gratuitous 6. A bit silly and schlocky, but some fun bits 5. Enjoyed most of the movie, found end weak and some character decisions very frustrating 4. Bad movie but easy comfort watch, fun bits and always watch when sick 3. Enjoyed it, loved it in cinemas and interested in the ideas it had 2. Absolutely fantastic film that started it all, started alien obsession 1. Favourite film, love how Ripley's character grows, love the story arc, love the one-liners, loved the marines, love the alien queen, love slimy company men, love Bishop, love everything about it 100/10
1: Aliens 2: Alien 3: Alien Resurrection 4: Covenant 5: AVP 6: AVP Requiem 7: Alien 3 8: Prometheus (hate it with a passion due to being a snowflake move from the director, could have been such a cool prelude, but nope, just pointless garbage.)
1. Alien (No explanation needed) 2. Alien 3 (I absolutely love this one, despite all the production crap surrounding it...and always have. Aaaaand the score is f**king awesome) 3. Alien Romulus (return to form...and at this point in time I actually rate it a tiny fraction above Aliens) / Aliens (not a fan of the alien queen, I'm with Ridley Scott on this one. Over the years I have lost a bit of love for this one...and I actually used to be a major fan, to the point where I recorded it on cassette tape and listened to it on my walkman - Yes, I've been a fan since the beginning) 4. NIL 5. NIL 6. Prometheus (It's got something, don't know what it is) 7. Alien Resurrection 8. NIL 9. Covenant (If the characters in Prometheus were a bit dumb, then the characters in Covenant must have been born without brains. I tried watching it again a couple of days ago but had to stop it out of sheer frustration and borderline anger) AVP - both of them don't count.
I agree only alien films I rate aliens 86 my favourite then Alien 79 then Alien 3 directors extended cut then alien vs predator then requiem dont rate the other 3
Alien is a classic! Ranking any of the other movies higher is like ranking The Goodfather below Goodfather 2 & 3. It's just not something you do! That said... It depends on when you got into the franchise, and what your preferred style is. Aliens is a fantastic movie, but it's more action and badassery than the first one. In the first movie, you don't really get to see the creature until the very end, and by then, you're on the edge of your seat. On to the list... 1. Alien 2. Aliens 3. Covenant - The ending is just magnificent. Pure horror! Makes up for everything you may want to complain about. Here's when it gets tricky 4. Alien 3 - The extended version puts a lot of things into a new perspective. I quite like this one. 5. Alien Resurrection - Great potential, but once Elgyn dies, it's just garbage. Easily the worst in the franchise! The reason I didn't list the remaining three are as follows: Prometheus - A really good movie, that I would place somewhere at 3 -5. The reason I don't is that it's more of a backstory to the rest. It fits, but then again, it doesn't fit. AVP... Not my cup of tea! Haven't seen them, nor do I feel the need to! If anyone asks how to cash in on previous blockbusters, this would be a great way to illustrate it. Predator 1 & 2 are great movies, and they don't need to be tossed in a mixer with another franchise.
The only ones I haven't watched the were the predator related ones. That being said, Covenant was PAINFUL. The behavior of the characters has to make logical sense for me and the behavior of the characters in Covenant was so silly the whole thing was like a bad 80s slasher movie.
The worst is the upcoming Alien ROMULUS, NOT DESERVING that ROMVLVS latin name, featuring 12 year olds as CREW that supposed to fight Aliens, maybe Aliens will all serender after seeing all the KIDS
1) Alien 2) Alien 3 3) Alien 4 Resurrection 4) Prometheus 5) Prometheus 2 Covenant 6) Aliens The AVP movies are so horrid that I refuse to recognise them as Alien movies at all.
I think the four one are all perfect on their own and scifi classics (even Alien 3 and Resurrection). The AVP movies and Prequels are horrible however...
Alien is categorically better than Aliens. I love Aliens, but to say it's better than Alien in every aspect?!?! Absolutely not. Alien has dread, mystery, unrelenting intensity that ramps up over time. Not to mention how beautifully stylistic and artistic the cinematography is shot. The sound design and soundtrack are next level. Alien creates an atmosphere and uncertain tone that Aliens just can not compete with. While Aliens is a fast paced herd of elephants stampeding across your face, Alien is a termite infestation that quietly and insidiously eats away at your insides until the structure becomes unstable and implodes. Aliens is a fun, thrilling Sci-Fi romp, whereas Alien is a terrifying, claustrophobic masterpiece. I'll take the horrific masterpiece any day.
Honestly their both arguably masterpieces for different reasons, I just happen to slightly prefer Aliens myself, but I absolutely agree with all your praise for the technical aspects of Alien and I praise Aliens for much the same reasons, their two very different kinds of movies so really it depends on what your own personal taste is, you can appreciate them both for different reasons and technically achievements and still prefer one over the other. Thanks for watching!
I would watch AvP: Requiem while smashing my nuggets with a hammer (granted, that's almost the same thing) every day for the rest of my life before I would let Aliens: Resurrection even enter my house. That movie was so stupid and poorly cast and directed it should probably be put on trial as a crime against fiction.
Prometheus was a very well made film. But is was basically just a re-hash of load of bits from Alien. With one of the most over used sci fy tropes thrown in. Aliens seeding the human race. Thats not been done a thousand times before! High quality film. Awful story...
This is very easy Alien and Aliens were great movies and no more sequels were needed. Everything that came after was utter shit. AVP films were ridiculous

7. AvP R: People were rightly upset when AvP came out with a rating of PG13, so AVP:R was a purely kneejerk spite reaction, pushing an R-rating and absolutely nothing else of substance. Predalien implanting eggs via its mouth is something a kid imagines when playing with action figures, before a velociraptor shows up in a jetpack.
8. Prometheus.
Really enjoyed your ranking, ty for the video!
I refuse to call it "Alien: Covenant" because it's true name is obviously Prometheus 2.
Great ranking!
Despite being considered “bad” I enjoy watching AvP, guilty pleasure I guess 😅
Yo..
1. Alien - it starts the ball rolling and sets up Aliens
2. Aliens - just great screenplay and so many memorable dialog lines. Brilliant actors. "One way elevator to hell! Goin' DOWN!"

The reason I didn't list the remaining three are as follows:
Prometheus - A really good movie, that I would place somewhere at 3 -5.
Requiem is by far the worst for the simple reason that it's impossible to see what's happening
1) Alien
2) Alien 3
3) Alien 4 Resurrection
4) Prometheus
5) Prometheus 2 Covenant
6) Aliens
The AVP movies are so horrid that I refuse to recognise them as Alien movies at all.
Me personally hated avp was pg-13 and also hate the fact that a movie called alien vs predator takes 45 MINUTES to alien vs predator
I think the four one are all perfect on their own and scifi classics (even Alien 3 and Resurrection). The AVP movies and Prequels are horrible however...
2:30 Ending is *SIMILAR to T2: Judgement Day!* 😝👎
3:00 + 4:45 I have the DVD! I like it!
Prometheus has far too much Ridley Scott ego inserted. It took the mystery out of the space jockey. The humanoid creatures in a biosuit is cringe.
Each film gets progressively worse. Anything after 3 simply isn't worth watching.
Seriously, 1 and 2 is on par. The rest doesn't exist.
Only 2 ALIEN films that are any good and that’s ALIEN 79 and ALIENS 86 those are the only 2 that worked
ALIENS 86 / ALIEN 79 and ALIEN 3/ ALIEN vs PREDATOR these are my top 4 don’t watch the others they don’t exist in my home
No ressurection is the worst film followed by Prometheus and covenant
This is very easy Alien and Aliens were great movies and no more sequels were needed. Everything that came after was utter shit. AVP films were ridiculous
