I like to use chicken breasts. But my husband likes the whole chicken. So I guess it’s what your preference is. He says there’s more flavor with the whole chicken but I like to flavor mine up the way I like it soooo ? Either way is perfect to me
What? HaHa! Only Paula can take a relatively healthy pasta dish and make it a heart attack in a casserole dish! Suggested substitutions:No need for butter, flour and making it into bechamel sauce.Use Olive Oil to saute onions, garlic. Use San Marzano canned whole tomatoes( better flavor and in supermarkets) plus a little tomato paste, add ur own Italian herbs plus seasonings.I would also sautee chopped peppers and mushroom slices to add to mine for more veggies, flavor and some dry red wine if I have some open.Diced white meat chicken rather than dark. Low fat Mozz, not so much pasta.Sub lentil or garbanzo pasta for more protein, less carbs but great taste. Pasta will absorb a lot of liquid in the casserole.Serve with green salad/vinaigrette dressing.
Oh Miss Paula , hubby and I just ate at your restaurant in Savannah a cpl of days ago , WOW !!! The food was amazing and your gift shop was amazing as well 😃😃
We went a few years ago and I was so sick. I ate so much I thought I was going to explode! I was so exited as this was on my bucket list! I had an amazing time!
This is a great recipe…and the kind yiu can just kind of put together, with no stess. My mom used to put cooked spaghetti in a 9x13 pan, then c-our on her wonderful leftover sauce….then top it off with chees…So good… Thankd, Miss Paula..
Spinach would have been great in that. Oh balogne...the stores aren't trying to keep the prices down by decreasing the packages...the prices are way more for way less food. It's like the post offices...way less service at a much greater price. Well how come if Paula had put the food in the oven, there would have been a butt shot...but there wasn't one when T put the dish in the oven...hmmmm...very interesting Eddie.
I think it depends on where you were raised. From my understanding, gravy is meat in tomato sauce, like ground beef or sausage. I'm Italian, and we never called sauce "gravy". We also never put sugar in tomato sauce, but instead used just a pinch of baking soda to reduce acidity.
Hi Paula! So can you use cornstarch instead of flour or is that a bad idea? I’m learning tips and tricks for cooking and creamy sauces is what I’m best in so I thought I’d ask the best! 😘
Oh my. Mmm, mmm, mmm! I just boiled a whole chicken two days ago, kept the broth, then boiled the carcass for wonderful, healthy collagen, etc. I'm definitely going to prepare this! Thanks so much, Paula. Wishing everyone a blessed, beautiful week. ♥️♥️♥️
I went to the Lady & Sons while we were on our senior trip in 2010. We went to Charleston but did a day trip to Savannah. Best part of the day was eating at the Lady & Sons. I had, Hoe Bread, Potato cakes, fried green tomatoes, and chicken salad sandwich. Best food of the whole trip. I’m from the mountains of NC and we make something called wilted lettuce, or kilt lettuce. We get green leaf lettuce, green onion, salt, pepper, tablespoon of red wine vinegar, teaspoon of lemon juice, and the best part…..BACON GREASE! We heat a cast iron skillet with bacon grease to its smoking point, then we pour it over the pulled lettuce and chopped onion while it’s still hot. Then we add the seasoning, the vinegar and lemon juice. It’s delicious! Country cooking at its finest. We eat it with corn bread and beans! I’d love for Paula to try it since she could probably add her touch to it and make it even tastier!
I use alittle baking soda in my sauce, it will foam up abit and then settle down .What a difference it makes with the acidity. Please try this especially if sauce bothers your stomach.
OMG I am so glad I found you Paula!!! Just goes to show you can't keep a good Woman down!! If I ever get to the South I hope to have a meal at one of your places. I have heard that the food is TO DIE FOR..If ever the day comes I promise I will be as stead fast as a well fed Tick, I'm gonna hunker down and get to work!...and I'd be praying that I would get locked in over night..so I could eat all the pies. Lord help me, I just got the Pie Sweats.
Worked in a Chinese restaurant at one time, in South. A southern lady came in and requested ",that spaghetti," on the menu. It was Lo Mein. I said, " lo Mein?" Replied, " well, yes, that spaghetti." Hesitated for a minute before replying, perplexed looking. Couldn't quite pronounce, Lo Mein 😁
No, what she means is when you used to get a pound of something for $3, instead of raising the price to $3.50, they’ll reduce the size to 3/4 of a pound. So people will say hey still $3 and not realize at first they’re getting less.
Y'all got some good eatin' in South, BUT for the love of all that's good, before attempting to make, Chinese, Italian, ESPECIALLY Italian cuisine, please take a good cooking class with with someone who knows that kind of cuisine. Preferably, learned through generations of family cooking
Somehow, Paula Deen and Italian just don't seems to go together. Being such a Southerner does not lend itself to being a good Italian cook. I am from the Notheast but now live in South Carolina and it is difficult to find a good Italian restaurant anywhere. Not their speciality.
Well, I would refrain from spitting, but I agree, this is something I wouldn't waste my calories eating. I think that Paula is under the impression that because a dish has seasoned tomatoes, it's automatically Italian! The combination of ingredients was poor. Was she trying to make a Pasta Alla Vodka, or some sort of Alfredo tomato pasta with minced chicken?!....she should stick to her Southern recipes. She knows not Italian cuisine.
Chicken and pasta is not an italian dish at all is an american dish. In Italy we don't eat this ki d of stuffs. You like chicken pasta? Ok but don't try to tell this is an italian recipe, please.
I'd have to say no thank you to this dish. The "mock bechamel" was totally unnecessary, and don't care for minced chicken, plus all that pretreated cheese. There are so many ways to make a good pasta dish without all the hidden, extra, unnecessary calories.
I heard that the reason Ronzoni spaghetti changed it's name to Skinner in the south, is because Southerners couldn't pronounce, Ronzoni. Could VERY we'll be true 😂
Maybe before saying anything bad about us southerners you should check your spelling. Like we’ll used instead of well. And Miss Paula was making a pasta dish. She has many pasta dishes so pfft to your above comment as well.
Would y'all follow my advice and use the whole chicken or just make it with chicken breasts?
The whole chicken definately more flavor
I like to use chicken breasts. But my husband likes the whole chicken. So I guess it’s what your preference is. He says there’s more flavor with the whole chicken but I like to flavor mine up the way I like it soooo ? Either way is perfect to me

Thank you Mrs. Paula this recipe looks delicious AND simple!
That looks delicious Paula.
Hey Paula ❤️ I believe Italians refer to homemade sauce as gravy. They don't use milk and butter of course but sugar is used.
I think it depends on where you were raised. From my understanding, gravy is meat in tomato sauce, like ground beef or sausage. I'm Italian, and we never called sauce "gravy". We also never put sugar in tomato sauce, but instead used just a pinch of baking soda to reduce acidity.

Most pasta is sold in 16 oz boxes. A few are 12 oz.
Hey Paula Im A newbie LOVE your channel KEEP IT COMING !!!
This looks fantastic. If you’re not a tomato fan, is there an alternate white sauce or some sort of creamy Alfredo you could use instead?
I thunk yiu coukd easily substitute an Alfredo sauce, and top with a good park.
These all looked delicious 😋. Especially the Shrimp dish! Glad you’re feeling better. I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving. 🧡
