- Come on a virtual beach walk with me at Tigertail Beach Marco Island.
I go on a beach walk every week and I'm happy to share my adventures with you virtually. This beach walk was outstanding and it's amazing how fun it can be to beachcomb, even if you’re all by yourself!

Awesome is right! Love them all of course! So many sand dollars! 😀 Love the rose petals! 🌹🐚 & that live jingle was so awesome! We have never seen a complete one with both sides! 💙🐚
HELLO!!! That jingle was the very first one I've ever seen with both sides attached. SO cool! There was such a great variety this day. I got really lucky and picked the right beach at the right time!
Use to do this every day back when Venice beaches were great
Nice beach time ! Lots and lots of goodies this time ! I’m loving that flat that u found ! Thanks again for a beautiful day at the beach 🏝
Thank you Linda 🤗 It was SUCH a fun day at the beach! 🐚❤️
Marco Island is lovely.
The starfish heaven!!! I only get broken pieces on our Texas coastline Beautiful haul!
Bummer! Well, here's to hoping that one day you find most if not a whole sand dollar!
I found your channel in my suggestions today and I’ve been hooked. I’m from Michigan and my go-to vacations usually involve rockhounding on Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, and Lake Huron beaches. When I was 17 I was in Florida with my parents and we spent about 30 mins on one of the Sanibel beaches. I’d never forgotten it, but also never went back…until June of 2021. My hubby and I decided to take our teenage sons (who are also rock hounds) to Florida to see Sanibel and Marco Island. We only had a week and the first day we were shelling on Sanibel and the 2nd day we went out to Tigertail Beach. You are NOT kidding about picking the right shoes! I had no idea how long the trek was on Tigertail and I wore flip-flops. Worse, in the first 5 minutes of walking I stepped in some water and ended up with 4 huge blisters on the soles of my feet as I struggled to keep my slippery shoes on. It sorta ruined my trip because I couldn’t walk out to the end of the island and I could barely walk for the rest of my trip! I definitely need a do-over! So sad! But, while I was a bit skeptical because of the intensity of the sun in SWF, I would go back to that area once a year, for sure! Such a beautiful area! I’d be more prepared next time, for sure! Thanks for your videos! They’re so relaxing and makes me wish I was bent over looking through the shells with you. And thank you for telling us the names of them! I was surprised that I already knew some of them from when I was very little. My Gma used to tell me the names of them as I sorted through her collection of shells. So cool!
What a fantastic story, with the exception of the part where your feet got all beat up. I find that when I walk too long in barefoot on the beach after a few miles the bottom of my feet get sore and as much as I prefer being barefoot, it just makes sense to get decent beach walking shoes. You definitely need a do-over! It can get pretty hot in the summer, but if you have some shade it's really not THAT bad with the ocean breeze.
Rockhounding also looks like great fun. I've seen some of those really cool stones and crystals that can be found. I didn't know I was going to be so fascinated by sea shells until I moved here. I always loved going to the beach as a kid and we moved here to be close to the beach -- but all those shells! And I love finding the critters too. Well I hope you enjoy your time on my channel and I do hope you make it back down here for more beachcombing!
So many beautiful shells again!
JUST otherworldly was it really in FLORIDA, USA ???
You needed a little wagon with bouncy wheels & shocks to stay longer and get more a perfect DAY!
Silvery white sands reflecting HIGH CONTRAST everywhere incredible walk TREASURES..HAPPY JOYOUS feeling watching.
Really appreciate YOU.
Kiss kiss, this gov phone a scam not free......no emojis...
bye bye can still hear the ocean waves.....GOOD DREAMS tonight!
I was wishing there was some sort of "shell detector" like there are metal detectors so I could figure out where the shells are buried and I'd know just where to find them! I guess for now I have to do it the old fashioned way - I see a shell, I pick it up. 😅It was such a fun morning on the beach. Thank you so much for coming along with me!
Finally a beach I went to! Found a few of the Florida fighting conch!
Oh my gosh the FFCs I found this day were spectacular! I hope you had as much fun as I did when you were there!
@@SWFBeachLife I did! It was back in April actually and before my visit to this beach I was looking for videos on shelling which is how I got to your channel, and i've been hooked ever since!
Fantastic beach day! 💙 🐚
You can never have too many Florida fighting conchs! I have walked 9 miles lugging a very large bag full of those (most were broken and very old-I use them in sculptures), and I was sad I had to stop picking them up because my bag was full. They are one of my favorite shells. They have such a beautiful variety of patterns and colors. That last one was stunning!
Dana you're speaking my language! I love them too but oy they can be heavy! I was bummed to drag my heavy shell bag around but when I got home and cleaned them up, I was so happy I had grabbed them. So many beautiful patterns, shapes, sizes - I just love everything about them! 🐚
OMG..! I am missing Marco so much..!
It's pretty dang awesome!
Some of the names of shells escape me....like apple murex. Why apple? So much fun and so relaxing watching and listening to you. Who would of thought I would know the names of ocean dwelling creatures here in the foothills of the Rockies.
There was another person who commented about learning the shell names and they too were landlocked. I don't know what it is about these things but I just want to know what their names are! Apple murex - why apple? That is a fantastic question and I am going to try to find out!
Oh my goodness! That was one of my fave videos so far, even more since we’ll be in that exact place in two weeks, can’t wait!!!
Oh I hope you have fun planning and I hope you have even better luck than I did when you go! 🐚
Awesome fi do, wish I was there
Wow what fabulous finds !! This was a great Island for finding awesome shells. I liked so many of them I can't decide which one was my favorite. I guess the Florida fighting conches, rose colored talons, the flats. Thank you for such a lovely video.
Someone recently asked me what my favorite shells is - I can't choose just one! There are too many beautiful shells with so many different things to love about them. 🐚❤️ Thank you so much for watching!
Oh man I wish I was there !
This is my 1st. Video of yours om gosh I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!! I will be watching so many more. I love the ocean and everything ocean. All those shells I would of been in heaven literally!! I live in Wisconsin and have never YET been to the ocean. Looking to vacation in Florida sometime soon. Maybe I will visit this beach 😉 Thank you so much for sharing your beach time. Also for letting people know not to remove shells if they're alive. Some people don't know that you shouldn't.
I'm so excited to go watch your video's. Thanks again!
Welcome aboard! I go to a different beach every week and I'll tell you about the weather, the tides, the shells, the critters - whatever is going on that day. If you ever do decide to visit a beach, I hope you come down here. We have so many beautiful areas to explore! I hope you enjoy your time with the content on my channel 🤗
What a fun day. Thanks for sharing every Sunday so I can get my beach 'fix'.
You are so very welcome. Thank you for coming along with me!
We are headed to Florida in February and I'm counting the days until we can go shelling again! We went shelling at 5am during low tide last February and I was hooked! I started watching your videos then and I've been watching them every week. A lot of the shells we found, I had no idea what they were until I watched your videos. We found some Florida fighting conxhs, banded tulips, spiny jewel boxes and a bunch of olives among other things! My son's favorite was the giant Atlantic Cockle because it was HUGE! Your shelling videos are the best!
Awesome finds🐚🐚😍
Thank you! 🤗
Nothing like hitting a home run as soon as you hit the water! Wow! Ok, albino lw's are VERY rare up here. I've never seen one. So 4 or 5 is a LOT! Congrats on that! You really got into some beautiful ffc's. Great finds on the horse conchs! Lots of walking around bushes, stumps, etc at Honeymoon Island too. Those were 2 really colorful top snails! That was one of the prettiest FL cones I've ever seen. Sharmon, you must be able to read my mind as I was just getting ready to ask if you ever check the high wrack line. And there you were! I actually find some my best stuff up there as most shellers want to be right at the break line or eater's edge. Yeah, you can transport me any time... 😂 Beautiful shark eyes! And you should have heard me gasp when you picked up that GORGEOUS flat!!! Unbelievable! That may be the biggest one I've seen on UA-cam! And the color...!! You had quite a day, girl! Did you oil the ffc's at the end or were they naturally that shiny?
It was such a fun day for me! I felt like the shelliverse was truly rewarding me. I do tend to like to shell in the water, but I always try to at least "peek" what might be sitting in the wrack lines. That flat was insane! Especially after I had already found so many awesome goodies. And can you believe those FFCs were only soaked in bleach and rinsed? Thats it - no oil needed! Quite a day indeed!!! ❤️
@@SWFBeachLife Wow. I'm going to have to try that. Will miss the beach for a couple of weeks - 10/2-10/16. Going to OH to visit friends and remember what fall colors look like. Lol xxoo
@@gingermackeen5741 That actually sounds like fun! Safe travels! xoxo
Shells are life :D
LOVE. IT! 🐚
What a fantastic shelling trip! That first flat with the zig-zag coloring - awesome! So many great finds from the little orange scallop to the beautiful colors of the small and medium horse conchs and those FF conchs... man, they were really puttin' on a show with their fancy patterns and colors. At 5:10 you find the albino lightning whelk... I noticed it had what appeared to be some major repair work in the upper shell area... it made the shell look a little out of balance and the bottom of the spire looked chipped or something, but that might have just been the lighting/glare on it. It was very beautiful, but clearly that critter would have had a harrowing story to tell.
No you are right, that albino shell was missing some pieces in places. Can you imagine what it must look like alive? I would LOVE to find one of those! Maybe one of these days. There is so much to appreciate out on the beach!!! 🐚❤️
Love the flats you found!! Thank you for the beach walk! Four weeks today I will be there shelling!!!
I hope you have fun planning and find lots of goodies when you get here!
You mentioned in your video that you sell some of your shells, where do you sell them at?
@@chrystalthorson3442 If you'd like to purchase some shells, shoot me an email at swfbeachlife@gmail.com and I'll get you all the details.
Is that a top snail at the bend of your thumb @ 12:09? Anyway, what a nice find today! I love that flat shell. I don't mind spending the whole day digging through those shell piles. Those Florida fighting conchs cleaned up exceptionally well!
I had to go back and check and yes that was absolutely a top shell I just dropped back in the water. Oh well. With all the other treasures I found I'm certainly not going to complain. Good eye!!! 🐚
Wonderful beach goodness today.lots of good info on tides and you mentioned your usual beach shoes. I did look for them, but could not find the link for your shoes. Help please.💖
My bad!!! Here is the link: amzn.to/3wIwanv
They aren't perfect, but it's been the best thing I've found so far!
Totally awesome walk! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such variety and such quality. We walked Marco early this summer and found some good stuff but nothing like this. I’ll be going back and hope I get so lucky. PS - thx so much for the shoe tip.
All beaches can be hit or miss but boy I picked the right beach on the right day that day! I hope you get lucky when you go back too! Thank you so much for watching 🤗
Yesterday I found a big, beautiful conch shell just sitting in the middle of a woods in Wisconsin. Its in grwat shape with only one broken point. I have no idea how it got there or who put it there. But its mine now. I call it the Mystery Shell lol!
What an amazing story!
@@karenwerthmann850 I thought it was a huge mushroom when I first saw it lol
@@kathytiseling5140 I live in Wisconsin too! My dream is to find a giant conch shell and a Wisconsin woods would be the last place I'd look!😄 How awesome! We live on Lake Michigan and the only shells I find here are mussel shells....yawn!
@@lindsayhansen4117 I was in Waupaca near Crystal River where I found it. But it was more into the woods by the road than the river.
@@lindsayhansen4117 It may have been part of a Scavanger Hunt? If it was well I found it 😁
We were just there on Friday, and my wife only found Sandollar’s
The beach is finicky like that. Sometimes they are tons of treasures and other times...nada. So much luck is involved. I keep telling people if they want sand dollars - go to Marco Island!
Sand dollars are actually burrowing sea urchins. ... And if you break open a sand dollar, five dove-shaped pieces emerge. Doves are often used in art and literature as a symbol of peace and goodwill. Now you know the legend of the sand dollar, a story of hope and peace.
I broke open a sand dollar and shared the poem in a recent video! It was interesting to see the doves as well as the poem that goes along with them: ua-cam.com/video/6EWKKhTgyvE/v-deo.html
When I was there it’s was the red tide it was awful😩😩😩😩😩
Well that sounds awful. When there’s no red tide it’s pretty awesome. 🐚
How long did you soak the shells in bleach for?
I soaked the Florida Fighting Conchs in straight bleach for about a day. That weird green slime comes right off!
@@SWFBeachLife thank you!! For some reason I was thinking it would lighten the shells, but glad it didn’t
My jaw dropped most of this beach walk. O’my gosh those rose petals are huge and the flats, wow, just wow. Oh and then the cones, and top snails, and all the sand dollars. The scenery wasn’t bad either lol
I’m surprised that sailboat is still there also. I think this was one of the best beach walks ever! Thanks for taking us along!
There were SO many great goodies on the beach. I got lucky when I chose this place to go beachcombing that day! Hopefully with winter coming the shells will start being around more!
After working my 12 hour shift in the ER, this video was much needed. Beach time! Sometime soon I will be down for a weekend for shelling.
Oh a 12-hour shift in the ER is definitely a good reason for some beach time! I hope you are able to make it down here at some point and put your toes in the sand. And maybe find a few shells while you're at it 🐚❤️
What is great in finding broken Sand Dollars are the doves inside that you can make crafts! Love the Rose peddles!
I have a whole bunch of broken and chipped sand dollars that I am unsure what to do with. I'm kind of keeping them to the side thinking one day I'll maybe do something with the doves. Maybe one of these days. Thank you so much for watching!
Love love love! That flat, the albino, the welks and the beautiful fighting conchs! Wow!
Yeah, it was a great day to be out on the beach! 🐚 Thank you for coming along with me!
Question: Where do you get the really helpful tide chart you show at the beginning of your video? I am dreaming of a Southwest Florida road trip and want to be sure that I go to the beach at the correct times. Thanks.
There is a tide app you can download for free. There is a red tide app too.
There are a few different apps and websites, but this is the one I use: ua-cam.com/video/skpXEeeU9ZU/v-deo.html
And then just keep in mind from May-October we have turtle season, so you can't use headlamps or flashlights on the beach during those months. My favorite is an early morning low tide - beat the crowds and hopefully find more goodies!
Which app do you use for RT? I just downloaded "Beach Conditions" and it seems to have some info but if there's a better app I'm interesting in knowing what it is :)
@@SWFBeachLife Thank you so much for sharing such great information. I can't wait to see your next video.
Thank you for mentioning ethical shelling again! When I was in Sanibel I went into a shell store. Before looking at the shells though I asked the two ladies working there if the shells were ethically taken or(farmed). Was so disturbed when they both looked at me as if I were from Mars and said they had never heard of such a thing. Even the ones that were collected in Sanibel they say they didn't know. I left empty handed except for a hat that I needed. I'm happy that you are showing people a better way to collect and sell!
I was horrified to find out that some shells are "harvested" and I know others who have quit making beach decor items because the shells they were buying weren't ethically collected. There is a shell shop on Sanibel that I went into (probably the same one you visited) and my husband and I bought rings and nothing else since I had no idea where the shells came from. I'll be sure to periodically mention this in future videos to keep people informed 🐚 Thanks so much for watching and coming along with me on my beach walk!
@@SWFBeachLife Thank You! I love watching!
@@SWFBeachLife April 2022 National Geographic has an article on seahorses. They used to be considered Bycatch by fishermen and were thrown back in. But dried seahorses are used in traditional Chinese medicine supposedly to cure multitudes of issues such as virility and it has become very lucrative business. So seahorses are on the verge of extinction because of greed and superstition!
@@karleenpage5979 Grrrrrrrr. It's not bad enough the sharks are used for their fins and tossed overboard, now seahorses too? Just ugh.
All beautiful shells, how awesome and how fun. Thanks
That was so fun to watch! You really hit a great morning on Tigertail and got an amazing shell haul for any time of the year! Love the crown conch and the flats. Thanks for taking us along each week.
I was thinking the same thing - so many goodies for this time of year! I hope that means it's going to be a good winter. I guess we shall find out! Thank you so much for coming along! 🐚
I’m addicted to your videos….so soothing….
It is a bit of a walk when you can hardly wait to get there 🐚. Thank you for talking about ethically ( buying ) shells.
Maybe I was impatient to get to the water, but boy the wait was worth it! Thanks so much for watching!
Wow! This is like my dream day at the beach! So many gifts from the sea. 😍 Thank you so much for sharing. ❤️
You are so very welcome! It was ridiculous how many treasures were on the beach that day! 🐚❤️
I loved the variety of things you found on this trip! The conchs were really great and I love the rose petal tellins!! 🐚🐌

I can’t seem to find the link to the shoes you normally wear. Can you share it?
That was my bad - I edited the description and it's there now but here it is for you: amzn.to/3wIwanv
They aren't perfect, but they've worked the best out of everything I've tried so far!
Finally caught a newer show. Love watching you, especially seeing the cat's paw shells. Going to try getting there next summer. Beautiful shells, great saves.🐚
It was a great day and such a wonderful variety of goodies on the beach to share. Thank you for coming along on my walk with me!
What a lovely relaxing walk; love the beach sounds! I was in Florida (east coast) many, many years ago and your videos bring back happy memories. Thank you!
Watching from Washington state.
It would be so good to be teleported to the beach and go shelling, such a beautiful beach with fab shells. Thank you
Sorry I can't actually teleport you to the beach (I would if I could) but thanks for coming along on my walk with me virtually!
Holy moly! You hit the jackpot of shells on this outing. Awesome shelling goodness!!! Thank you for sharing with us.
I picked the right day to visit Tigertail for sure! Thank you so much for taking the time to come along with me!
Omg I’m so excited for you .. I feel gitty and it’s not even me finding them lol ❤happy for all your amazing treasures
I don't think we'd be bored watching several minutes of sand dollars lol. 😉😁 PS yes! You nailed it when you said most awesome play ground ever! I'd bring home the whole beach lol!
I felt like a kid in a candy shop with so many treasures just laying all over the beach. It was awesome! I hope to have more days like this in the future! 🐚❤️

The Atlantic cockle shells is pretty much the ONLY shells I’ve found when going to Flagler beach and Ormond beach Florida. I have a ton of the cockle shells but I so so so dream to have some of the shells you find. 🐚🤗
The gastropods are my favorites I think. The FFCs, olives, murex, moon snails - oh heck I just love them all! I grew up finding big ugly clam shells and that was it, so I'm over the moon at the goodies I now get to find. And so glad I can share!!
Wow, wish I was there!
I love 💞 the way you give us for Beach 🏖️ time Beautiful
12:14 you dropped a top snail!!!
I sure did! Good eye! 🐚
Wonderful, WONDERFUL, wonderful I'm so HAPPY for you.. BEAUTIFUL collection.🏖️⛱️🌅🐚❤️
Thank you so much! I had so much fun collecting treasures 🐚❤️
WOW what an AAAAAAAMazing haul!! I just bot back from Sanibel myself (was there from (9/15-9/20)and brought a very nice collection back home to California. Spiny Jewel Box's, Florida Fighting Conch's, Calico Scallops, Olives, Apple Murex, beautiful Cockles, juvenile Turkey Wings, Lightening Welks, Coquina's, some beautiful Jingles, a couple of Rose Petals Tellins, Yellow Prickly Cockles, a couple of Broad Ribbed Cardita's, Florida Prickly Cockles, lots of Kittens Paw (which I just adore) nice colorful piece of a Gaudy Natica, some Eastern Oysters, a BEAUTIFUL Southern Quahog, and a few Sunray Venus's . I additionally found several( around a dozen) of a shell which I have not been able to identify. I also found several pieces of what looks like red and white coral ,but not certain it is in fact coral. This was my 13th time to Sanibel and I was on the hunt! I am generally there in the spring when the shells on the beach are in abundance! Really appreciate your videos and it was by watching your videos that I have been able to identify so many of the shells I found this trip. Love your channel and your adventures.
Wow! It sounds like you found about one of everything - that's wonderful! And so happy you are able to identify your shells too! I've only found white coral down here, but it's always possible you found some that was discolored. There are so many interesting things to check out on the beach. Thank you so much for coming along with me!
I always pick so many shells and then never know what to do with them..
That first shell😍😮🤩! What a beautiful day you had, nice and toasty. Perfect day for water shelling. The little pear whelk❤️. Those moon snails and then sand dollars everywhere! Great video. Always enjoy exploring with you. Sooooooooooo many goodies.
I don't know why the sand dollars love it down there but they do. Thank you for coming along with me on my beach walk!
I didnt see the link for shoes, please and thank you.
I am so sorry about that! Here is the link to the shoes I use - they aren't perfect, but the best I've found so far! amzn.to/3wIwanv
Thank you
LOVED watching your shelling on this beach! I only wish there was a way to make the shells you are seeing in slow motion, so we could better see what all is there. Too, when you show us a shell, could you still let us see the others around it while you show the one in your hand at the side? I think this life you lead is a perfectly beautiful life❤️
I have a wonderful life, and I am glad I've chosen to share a little slice of my joy with all! Thank you for this feedback. Perhaps I can shoot things a little different. I do think it would be nice to really see what else is around, other than the shell I choose to concentrate on and pick up. Let me see if I can remember next time I'm out shooting! 🙏🏼
Thank you for beach time. I lived in southern Alabama around Gulf Shores and now live in the Midwest. I so enjoy listening to the beach sounds and feels like I’m walking the beach myself. Miss it so much however love walking the beach with you. Thank you 🦋
You are so very welcome! I love living here and I love sharing these gorgeous beaches! Thank you for coming along with me!
Beautiful Marco Island didn’t disappoint! Sand dollar crazy and I would sit in those piles of beach goodness and pick out the littles. Thank you for sharing this beauty with us and I will check out your critter channel! Happy Shelling ❤️❤️
Tigertail Beach was SO good to me! It was such a fun morning searching for treasures and the weather was just beautiful. Thanks so much for coming along! I will have a baby sea turtle short video to upload to the critter channel soon!
I absolutely love watching you hunting for shells!! You are informative, and so concise about the sea life. I also live in SWF but I sure don't find what you find! 😪
You are awesome, keep up the good work!
Aww - thank you so much! I feel like there is still so much more to experience and learn and I can't wait! Thank you for coming along with me on my beach walk!
You are so knowledgeable! I love listening to you!
Sand dollars! Lots of nice shells. How long do you soak the FFC in 100% bleach? My daughter snd I were here 5 years ago October snd there had been a red tide. There literally were drifts and piles of shells. Hundreds and hundreds of FFC. We rescued as many live ones as we could. I have never seen anything quite like that!
I soaked my FFCs for about a day in the straight bleach. I feel SO fortunate to have escaped another summer of red tide. It's got down here a little last summer but nothing this year. I know the shelling would be epic, but I hate to think of all those critters dying. I guess that's the circle of life. Thank you for trying to save as many live ones as you could! I would have been doing the same thing 🐚❤️
The shell that you said drove you crazy looked like a tiny Horse Conch.. Yes, I would never identify shells well.. Bless you for trying to teach us.. It is always Fun & Informative..
There are quite a few shells that look SO similar to each other. I don't know why I want to know what kind of shells I'm finding - I just do! Thanks so much for coming along! 🐚❤️
I want to go to Florida just to go shelling😁...im afraid not much in Illinois/Chicago but have beautiful rocks in Michigan Lake😆😁
Can you find those real pretty stones with the different patterns on them? Petosky stones I think they're called. Now that I discovered beachcombing I'd probably have a ball looking for different goodies at different places. Sorry you might not find shells where you are but someone just told me they found a conch in the woods of all places!
I dream of visiting Florida and going shelling with you. At least I can watch you on my phone. It just amazes me each time you go to the beach and find all those beautiful shells. I think your channel is the best and your voice is so soothing. Thank you for another wonderful video❤️!!!!
Thanks for coming along with me!
The first and only Starfish I've ever seen at a beach, I saw at Tigertail. Hubby pointed it out, floating right next to the beach. I fished it out, but it was alive, so back in it went.
Thanks for letting me know and thanks for saying hi to the critter and leaving it at the beach 😃
I enjoy your videos so much and can't wait to get back to Florida to shell again! I got good shoes and a shell bag and a book to identify what I find! LOL But last year I did find a shell that I haven't ever seen you find...looking it up I think it's a "flamingo tongue" it's very white and shiny and almost looks like a piece of bamboo Have you seen these?
I have a flamingo tongue that someone gifted to me. They are so cool! It looks like a "knuckle" of bamboo with an opening on the other side. I've never found one myself - congrats!!! And I hope when you come back you find tons of goodies!
Great video! Love lightening whelks!
Great to see the addition of a wee bit of color, those colorful calico scallops and some little pink things. Too bad you didn't have more Florida Fighting Conch's, LOL.
One can never have too many Florida fighting conchs ☺️
Wowza! Have to agree that those FFCs are gorgeous, and never boring! Crazy Florida Cone pretending to be an Alphabet!! Another great haul and beautiful beach!
I wonder if this was the trip that changed the way I shell for the FFCs - I had found so many at Tigertail and had to haul them all over the beach with me. Now I try to wait to collect them as I'm leaving the beach but it still doesn't always work out that way 😅
You’re killing me with the beautiful jingle shells. I pick them up but never find anything like the ones you have there in Florida. I keep hollering at you to keep them but you don’t 😭.
I am so spoiled to live here - we have the best beaches with the best shells. If I kept them all I'd need to rent a storage unit 😂
Every time I see your videos I imagine myself there collecting those pretty shells. Will definitely go there someday 😊.... thnx for showing us those pretty shells and beautiful beaches through your lens
You are so very welcome. I really hope you do make it down here one day to find your own treasures! 🐚❤️
I can’t wait until I can find some sand dollars here in Corpus Christi. It’s been dead lately for those, unless you are on the hunt for $.50-.75 pieces.
There was one summer here in July that you couldn't walk without stepping on them. I was really hoping to see this type of event again but I haven't - yet. I hope they return by you soon so you can find them too! 🐚
Don't know how I missed this one! Always great to get my beach fix!!! Hugs from Virginia!
I haven't been to Tigertail in a while and I am itching to get back down there!
Just thought I would tell you an interesting fact: it’s it is against the law to collect shells in Italy. As in major fines around €600. I was shocked when I found out.
Whoa. I know there are some island that it's illegal to take shells from too. I would still want to go find them, even if I had to leave them behind.
This area is my favorite once I've found. Been coming down in January the past 5 yrs. Its my birthday present to myself. I feel this is where i belong.
That sounds like a great present to yourself! I hope you have a wonderful time when you're here in January!
I collect shells. I’ve had a concern about how she’ll for sale are collected. How do we know what to avoid? Are there certain countries? I’d really appreciate an answer to this question. Thank you!
The only advice I have if it's not listed is to ask. Write the seller and ask where they came from. I personally would be suspect of anything that just looks too inexpensive and sold in bulk. There are a bunch of ethical shellers out there for sure - you just have to find them. This was one seller that I reached out to that does ethically collect all her shells: www.etsy.com/shop/cshellsbeachart
I lived in Jacksonville Florida for awhile went to the beaches all around there never found the first whole shell. They had trucks the went up and down the beaches and people who walked beside the trucks gathering the shells before the regular beach people could get to them. I'm guessing they sold them to the novelty stores around the beach towns.Im not sure where you are getting all these shells ,plus the beaches look pretty empty of people. I have been on the beach before the sun came up and after it went down and always left before all the people cleared out. I've also been on beaches in Georgia they too had trucks that actually raked the sand for shells before the people started filling the beach. So I'm asking, the beaches you gathered these shells, were they closed to the public at certain times and because you were doing videos were allowed on before they were open??.I found one whole shell when I was a kid that had gotten stuck in a ditch of some kind. I'm 73 years old and can't count the times I've been to the beach from Jacksonville Flordia to Miami and the coast of Georgia . The only thing I ever found on the beach in Louisiana was dead fish.
I tend to go real early in the morning when I go out to make a video and I tend to walk away from beach entrances and people, so a lot of the times I'm shelling I have the beach to myself. All the beaches I go to are open to the public, I just happen to get lucky and on this day I really picked the right beach. That will change shortly because this area gets very crowded in the winter with people escaping the cold so soon I'm going to have to share my beaches.
The beaches down here are fantastic for finding shells. I didn't know a thing about shells until my first trip here in 2017. Once we found a few we were hooked. Also found our first whole sand dollar. Each time we would come back to look for a place to move we would go to the beach and go beachcombing. Once I moved here it was all over for me - I fell in love with the beaches and looking for critters and interesting shells.
I tried the East Coast shelling too a few times and got some pretty decent stuff as well. It was over in Jupiter, and then in North Palm Beach. Again, lots of walking, but it was totally worth it!
I was curious what you collect in? Bucket, bag, container. Just curious. Been to the Gulf coast in Texas a few times. I really enjoy collecting.
I have a beat up bag that I'm getting pretty sentimental about. I might try to repair it should anything ever happen to it. I show it in an older video: ua-cam.com/video/McjkI-8etZ4/v-deo.html
I think it was originally a trick or treat bag for my kids - I repurposed it and it works great!
I love watching you walk the beaches. I go a few times a year down to Florida and love collecting shells. After watching your videos I decided to pour out my vase of shell to see if I got good ones and I did. I could even identify them because of watching you.
That's awesome!! I hope the next time you visit Florida you'll be even that much more educated about what you're finding 🤗 Thank you for coming along with me!
I live here and the shelling is phenomenal like this every day. It’s hard to fathom this 16years later. If Tigertail isn’t loaded, South Beach is.
When you say "South Beach" do you mean South Marco? I've tried down there but only managed to find goodies at low tide around the jettys. I'm happy to get any other tips I can!
Just got back from my beach trip in Anna Maria… got some amazing shells I’m jealous🤣🤣
Tigertail Beach was very good to me that day! 🐚
I wish I lived closer and I could come and visit all these beautiful beaches to collect Some shells! It is also one of my favourite hobbies ! Our beaches do not have many shells! Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Hello South Africa! I am so very fortunate to live where I do. I've been inspired by the beauty that surrounds me! I'm glad I can share the beaches, creatures and beauty of Florida USA with you! Thank you very much for coming along on my walk!
Loved your video🐚🐚 The kids and I are still on lockdown thanks to covid but I am loving watching you shell🐚🐚
Ugh - I'm so sorry you're on lockdown! I think a bunch of people found me during COVID when they wanted something different or were craving the outdoors. I'm glad I can at least get you to the beach virtually! I hope your lockdown ends soon!
2:02 Oh my goodness, stop right there. If you didn't find another shell, a gorgeous crown conch like that would make the whole venture worthwhile.
I thought the same thing, but since it was the first thing I found I thought I should at least check to see if there's anything else that might be interesting out there 😅 I was psyched to start my day like that though. I had such a great time!
Beachy goodness so very good for me!!! 👍🐠👍
you had a great shell haul today! woot woot! thanks for taking us along! take care!
Thanks for coming along with me!
Are you familiar with the sand dollar doves and the story behind it? I recently found out about them and they are fun to find and great for decorating. I can't seem to post pictures or I'd show you what I've found.
Yes, I actually broke open a sand dollar and shared the story behind it: ua-cam.com/video/Z_fI_VcVlzU/v-deo.html
I've seen the photos with the sand dollar and the doves "flying" out of it. Very, very interesting stuff! Especially the part about Aristotle naming those pieces!
I don’t see the link for the shoes in the description.
I love your videos, I am going to Jupiter beach in a few weeks and now I will know what the shells are called and what to collect, thank you for that!
You are so welcome! I shelled over at Hobe Sound and found a bunch of goodies! ua-cam.com/video/L4OQoRxvpQs/v-deo.html
We walk through the lagoon. We do it every time, we wear water shoes and carry a dry bag. I'd rather do that than take that long walk.
You probably shave a good 20 minutes total getting to the beach that way! It's definitely a great shortcut if you don't mind walking through questionable water 😅
Aww I didn’t know you sell shells too! I would love to buy a babys ear from you 😍 Do you have a website?
Shoot me an email at swfbeachlife@gmail.com and I'll send you all the details!
Thank You... I needed that. God Bless
i knew I should of gone to tiger tail last week.
Are all cone shells poisonous? Have you found one alive??
Yes I do believe all the cones are poisonous, however the ones we have here live in pretty deep water so finding them alive is pretty rare. I've never seen one alive, but if I were to come upon one and get stung, it's more like a bee sting. The ones down here won't kill you the way the ones in Australia might! I'd still love to see a live one in the future but I wouldn't be picking it up!
