The concept and treatment of Slaves in Islam is Much different than that of slaves in the West. i. e. in Amrka and other Western countries women and men are treated worse then slaves are treated in Islam; That's why more Western Women become Muslim than any other religion. 💕 In Islam Slaves in Islam eat the same food as and together with, their owners. In Islam Slaves get paid for their work. In Islam a slave can (ransom) free himself. In Islam Slaves are treated better than the factory workers and citizens in many countries. Allah encourages and rewards the Muslims who free slaves. Islam has a history of freeing slaves like Billal. After freedom Many voluntarily became Muslim. In Islam, slave owners are Not permitted to rape or abuse a slave; the owner of a slave cannot have sexual relatios with his slave without concent from the slave. It must be mutual concent. Some sharia law punishments are more intence for non-slaves than for slaves.
its not exactly a term is legit an existing word a portuguese word that means dark its one of the words we use to call or describe something that is indeed dark and that word already existed far prior to the transatlantic slave trade
In the ancient world slavery has nothing to do with the skin color as opposite to slavery trade ....you can be white black or what ever and be slave ...if you can't pay your debt you can end up be enslaved until your debt is paid even inside the same tribe... or being captives during war. as an example in ancient rome slaves came in all colors. There's an incoherence in this talk in two parts: First this was titled 'Negro' in Arab-Muslim Consciousness and he spent most his time attacking Critical Race Theory which has to do with Whiteness. Second, his definitions of terms is confused or non-existent; for example, he often confuses Bigotry (individual behavior) for Racism (systemic order) and he doesn't really define or deal with the view of Arab scholars toward 'Zanji', 'Negros' or otherwise in any deep or meaningful way. There's a direct line from racist Arab scholars to the racism of the European scholars he mentions.
@@sonny7159 Insomuch as it concerns Critical Race Theory or just society in general Racism is entirely about systems of power. In such a context, the focus on individuals has always been a distraction. The fact remains that a system of racial hierarchy has been constructed and Arabs have been complicit in it since its beginning during the slave trade. We can't begin to bring about unity until that complicity and its continued enforcement are addressed. For example, if I as a Black man go to Israel, I will be called a Kushi (n*gger) but also if I go to Palestine I will just as likely be called an Abd (slave i.e. n*gger), so if there's one thing those most implacable of foes can agree upon it's that my essential nature is beneath theirs and every effort will be made to keep me at the bottom of society.
@@sonny7159 Insomuch as it concerns society and Critical Race Theory, racism is about systems of power and focus on individual behavior is always a distraction from that system. The fact remains that there has been a global system of racial hierarchy and Arabs have been complicit in it since its beginnings in the slave trade. We can't begin to achieve unity among the Muslims until that first betrayal by Arab Muslims against African Muslims is redressed. Critical Race Theory has serious flaws but there is no viable alternative being proffered by Muslim scholarship because of their unwillingness to speak to the elephant in the room.
Stop making excuses there were slaves in Arabia during the time of the prophet. Discrimination and horrible human behavior was not invented by the west.
The majority of the enslaved were Arabs not Africans in that era. Before the Prophet’s birth, Ethiopians conquered Yemen and enslaved Arabs. Slavery was normative then and wasn’t purely “race” based back then.
Slaves were not strictly black in those days. They were black, white, brown, there Arab slaves, Persian slaves and others. That did not make it right but it was definitely not such a big industry on such a big scale and most importantly was not based on a philosophy of racism in the sense that it considered blacks specifically inferior intellectually and inferior in humanity if he’s considered human at all. There are lots of slurs and descriptions that you will not find in any of the literature from those times and I mean both Arab-Muslim and non-Arab-Muslim. No type of slavery is right but there’s a huge difference. And the sooner you accept that, the better human you will be.
I am an Ethiopian, I know a little about slavery. My mom on her wedding was gifted a slave girl. So slavery was practiced until recently. But it is totally different in the idea of Western slaveries. In Ethiopia they practiced as extending family members.
I don't think there was a nation that didn't have slavery in their history. However the conditions subjected to slaves vary from culture to culture. Islam put rules to terminate slavery:- 1. Slaves can pay their ransom and be free. 2. A man can free a slave for several reason, as charity, or expeciation of religious mistakes like kaffarah,, etc 3. A slave girl that gets pregnant by her master becomes free and the children have same status as the father, if a Sultan, king, they can inherit the thrown. 4. There are conditions to house, feed, and house slaves. 5. Slaves are given high responsibility positions within a family, Nobles, and Emperors. In palaces you find slaves with very high ranking official positions. In western slavery it is perpetual, no freeing of slave, that includes the children of the master, they are slaves.
Poor old Bilal ! It is claimed Mohammad was supposedly against racism and against slavery and yet he had many slaves and received many slaves as gifts . Bilal was his slave and as a slave he served faithfully but after Muhammad `s death , Bilal asked for his freedom and was refused. Hmmmmm!
You are a braying donkey. Bilal RAD freedom was bought and freed by Abu Bakr. Virtually all sins or penalty was recompense by freeing slave if he has financial capability. THE PROBLEM WITH Eurocentric mind is that they project their misdeeds on others. Slavery is not limited to dark skinned people but covered also central Asia. Unlike the westerner Muslims have no issue discussing this in frank open manner without what aboutism. Jonathan Brown wrote extensively about slavery and Islam. In Islam a slave can become a master and occupy high position.
As a black Muslim, I am not sure where u got this info from. Bilal was a slave to pagan Arabs in Mecca. When he heard of Islam, he embraced it and was thus tortured by the pagans Arabs. His enslavement and persecution were nothing to do with his race or ethnicity. Another early (Arab) Muslim paid for his freedom. He became one of the most well-known and greatest figures in Islam. In his lifetime, he was a close follower of prophet Mohammed, not his slave or servant. In fact, the prophet Mohammed made him the person to call to prayer even once on top of the Kabah. The prophet strongly recommended all Muslims to follow Bilal in certain actions to do with purification and prayer. The prophet Mohammed told him that he will be one of the people of Paradise.
Bilal became a free man in Madina. After the conquest of Mecca, Bilal was the first to call prayer on top of the Ka'aba. In Madina he was the person calling prayers especially dawn (Subih) prayers.
Slavery is something all of humanity has been involved in. However, it was linked to wars. Thus slaves were simply prisoners of war with the exception of the Transatlantic slave trade. The Transatlantic Slave trade was motivated by racism, economics, and enslaving free people (men, women, and children who there was no war with). The slave the early Muslims had were either gifts or prisoners of war. Like the ancient Romans, Greeks, Ancient Egyptians, Ancient Chinese, etc. all had. It was likewise not based on racism since they had black, Arab and white slaves. But unlike the previous nations, Islam revolutionised the treatment of slaves. Islam forced its followers to give slaves a number of rights, chances to buy their own freedom, spiritual rewards for freeing slaves, made it obligatory to free slaves if certain sins were committed, made it forbidden to rape slave women and to separate slave women from their children, made it so the food and clothing of the slave had to be the same as the slave owner, they could not be beaten and over worked etc. Lastly, if you look into Islamic history, many rulers, ministers, governors, general etc. were slaves or sons of a slave women. So Islam gave slaves upward mobility to the point some slaves became rulers.
As black Muslim revert - Islam forced me to reconcile woth some of my own prejudiced views on white people, it made feel so proud to also be black (due to the great black Muslim figures in history and the number of black Islamic empires in Islamic history) and in general it made me super tolerant/appreciative of all ethnicities and races (they each contributed in big and small ways to the human race in many diverse and amazing ways - truly Allah blessed us by making us different races and ethnicities)

The nickname for Arabs is black and for the non Arabs is red. And the Arabs call the non Arabs red because a pale white complexion is predominant amongst them.”

Would love you going more into Maliki Madhab and Race. JzK
The concept and treatment of Slaves in Islam is Much different than that of slaves in the West. i. e. in Amrka and other Western countries women and men are treated worse then slaves are treated in Islam; That's why more Western Women become Muslim than any other religion. 💕
In Islam Slaves in Islam eat the same food as and together with, their owners.
Some sharia law punishments are more intence for non-slaves than for slaves.
worked for kaust in thuwal ksa ... arabs capitulate to ws willingly
Brother, Paul with all due respect this term "N" is no longer used to describe "Black people ". I hope you will reconsider this title.
its not exactly a term is legit an existing word a portuguese word that means dark its one of the words we use to call or describe something that is indeed dark and that word already existed far prior to the transatlantic slave trade
@ConiiCeltici Language is geographically and historically related. In the context of the English language in the US and UK this term is not ok.
Nah it's OK.
He's using it because it's the title of the guest's book, who is African American, and the subject of the discussion.

I dont care... if you call the prophet muhammad peace be upon him was black skin color ...he is still a prophet of Allah....
❤
In the ancient world slavery has nothing to do with the skin color as opposite to slavery trade ....you can be white black or what ever and be slave ...if you can't pay your debt you can end up be enslaved until your debt is paid even inside the same tribe... or being captives during war. as an example in ancient rome slaves came in all colors. I know it is not the video topic but just to make a point to some comments
Allah ASW. Didn't let us without guidons, as to how we were created regardless of humans colure. Read the following verses from Quan with English translation.
Do you not see that Allah sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby fruits of varying colors? And in the mountains are tracts, white and red of varying shades and [some] extremely black. [35:27]
And among people and moving creatures and grazing livestock are various colors similarly. Only those fear Allah, from among His servants, who have knowledge. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Forgiving. [35:28]
Indeed, those who recite the Book of Allah and establish prayer and spend [in His cause] out of what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, [can] expect a profit that will never perish - [35:29]
my brother is blue eyed white guys and my cousin have a very dark skin and wallah i the term "race" I still feel everybody who is using it out of his mind. now i have read the history not sure I will still insist that these term is like the zodiac effect on human being. meaningless
The ancient Arabs did describes themselves as Black and im sure Professor Ali knows his ...its just he's being cautious with his words
To say that Islam accommodate scholars with known (i.e. written/published) principles, attitudes, or positions about any of the known Islamic or otherwise sciences (or, specialty or study subject) is very nuanced and diverse is an understatement.
Without belittling or prejudicial against current and all the other guest speakers/presenters on Blogging Theology; I wish brother Paul could endeavor to invite Hamza Yusuf and Yasir Qadhi to freely speak about where the English-speaking Muslims (or otherwise) are at today.
I think it was unwise to present that claim about the maliki school without any explanation or references. Just fitnah. Please give a reference if you can.
I tried to look for some evidence of the claim but could not find anything. Perhaps the brother is magnifying strange/fringe opinions that are not accepted by the scholars of ahlul sunnah.
Racism can be individual, in addition to systemic.
This topic was so off discussion I thought he was gonna be tackling the topic of discussion and he was just talking about other things
Zanjibar is a country.
Didn't the arab slave trade dwarf all others in timeline , scale and cruelty ?
Absolutely not
@@3nuts-502are you Muslim ?
Your statement itself proves your ignorance about islam especially regarding this topic
@mohammedshoaib-tq6hb slavery is permissable in islam, that is fact.
Evidence?
Dante’s inforno the depiction of Mohammed by William Blake is amazing
@@HajjDawudWalid As salamu aleiykum Sir!
Islam put rules to terminate slavery:-
1. Slaves can pay their ransom and be free.
2. A man can free a slave for several reason, as charity, or expeciation of religious mistakes like kaffarah,, etc
So Islam gave slaves upward mobility to the point some slaves became rulers.
lol, this is the calibre of those who try to speak against Islam with their mouths… completely oblivious to the irony…
