Norah Jones is an accomplished jazz musician that writes interesting music and arrangements..Not particularly my cup of tea, but she's a real musician and comes from a musical family.
He's not saying Norah Jones is bad, he's saying Norah Jones shouldn't get a Grammy on her first big project, she should put in lots of work and make a big impact on music.
Remember that the Album that he's talking about never hearing from was by Norah Jones which has sold 27 million copies world wide and 10 million on the States alone.
Remember when they used BTS for clout? They actually did really well getting to the top spot in the billboard 100’s for several weeks in a row for Dynamite and Butter, was invited to the Grammys TWICE, (breaking records for the amount of viewers they had) were asked to perform and got snubbed of their awards both years in a row. #scammys
They knew that views would go up having BTS there cus K-pop fans r hardcore n they won’t miss a thing, if they can’t physically be there best believe they r watching it, n sum of them probably have another TV or computer that’s recording it, n they will watch it on all their devices, phones, tv, laptop, so 1 person streaming triple the views, they do not play

It charted at 30 on the Billboard before the Grammy’s. It didn’t go platinum or double platinum until after. That’s his point. The Grammy’s gave her sales a huge boost. She wasn’t double platinum until 2005.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. She’s very talented, but it wouldn’t seem that way because rap and hip hop are the most mainstream, and Eminem raps so there’s an instant mass impact with that. But since Norah’s jazz/blues, she’s not going to get the mainstream acclaim, but she’s talented and probably deserved that win.
How is she a huge artist if nobody knows her? No it’s not just about hip hop but everyone knows Ariana Grande, everyone knows Green Day, everyone knows Beyonce, and Drake. They’ve all made a huge impact on music and were able to cross over into other genres. Got ppl who don’t normally listen to their genre to connect. Yet non of them have ever won Album of the Year. @James-kx6hl um what? First of all, the Grammys should be a status symbol of musical excellence, not a reflection of commercial success or global recognition. Second, if you watch the actual interview and not just this clip, he expands on this context that the the Grammys sometimes lie to get certain people there to promote the show, be cause it is a show broadcasted on TV and the let people who won know ahead of time so they can prepare a speech. He wasn't Dissing Norah or Lala Dottie (if that's a real performer alias.) It's an issue that he called out in The Real Slim Shady from his Marshall Mathers LP, a couple of years prior to The Eminem Show which he was nominated for the same year that Norah won. It's not a slight at her artistic talent or commercial success, but an issue with the Award show. "But, Slim, what if you win? Wouldn't it be weird?" "Why? So you guys can just lie to get me here?" I've never really heard of Norah Jones either but that doesn't mean that her music isn't great or that she didn't deserve that award.
@James-kx6hl No he doesn't. When he brought up those people he was alright to lose by, those people had made massive cultural impact that took hip hop and rap far. That's not nearly the same as a jazz album selling more records simply because it's good. The Eminem Show definitely could have won that same award for having similar numbers if that was the case and I'm positive that's some of y'all in this comment section have not even heard the album all the way through, and that's okay! Like I said, this is not a slight towards Norah Jones's Talent or success as an artist just because I never heard the music before. The issue comes from the Grammys themselves lying about potential winners to get certain people to the award show to promote their television special, which again, he has spoken about many times since 2000 during his Marshall Mathers LP album cycle, specifically on the song The Real Slim Shady where a question was posed that it would be weird if he won only for him to fire back that they would only lie about him winning to get him there. And this happened before Norah Jones's win in 2003. He's not a bitter person about success and you can tell in the way that people who have met him talk about him. The point is he's calling out the Grammys for being a TV show first and then an award show

yeah but album of the year shouldn’t be a popularity contest, if an obscure album is better then it deserves to win more than eminem or anyone else with a larger following, how do you expect new artists to grow if everything is just awarded to those who are all ready successful?
But by which objective standard do you measure weather it’s better? Would it not be by public interest or sales?
@@zifodyano, because that’s marketing. Because I got high was a number one hit song. Really doesn’t deserve song of the year does it? Money for marketing doesnt equal quality. Popularity doesn’t equal quality. I mean how many celebs you know are famous, but don’t actually do shit
That same rapper will go on to make an ENTIRE ALBUM of diss tracks punching down on people from the top. And the only reasonable explanation I’ve ever heard from anyone was “that’s how rap is now. It’s the best doing it better than anyone else can.”
It’s pathetic.
@user-tx4wj7qk4t😂😂😂😂😂 critical acclaim 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅😂😅😂
Exactly. Eminem didnt help his case with that argument. By his standard Ice Spice would be getting grammy's.
Norah Jones was a huge name at the time even in Croatia, really talented girl
Grammy is American who cares if she was popular over seas.... this interview old and I still don't know who Norah is 😅
@@natoshiasmith1091 she was not POPular, she was more in jazz stuff if i remember it right, who cares - you care, asking dumb questions...

Nawww he's bitter. That's why you brought it up.
I’m not jealous, you’re jealous😂😂
He is definitely right and he's a legend.
Michael Jackson been told y'all about this
Norah Jones and Eminem are from different genres. Her music is liked by many people who may not listen to Eminem. I'm sure Eminem is liked a lot, but Norah Jones has her own listeners
Still don't deserve wt Eminem did ! He was staying facts
It should be a different category then it doesn’t make sense
Norah jones was pretty awesome with that first album though.
And she actually plays an instrument which is rad.
And its piano, which is difficult.
And she's awesome and her voice is amazing.
Who?
I saw her last year in Baltimore. She pulled out a guitar as well. Em not knowing her doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a huge following or isn’t incredibly talented. I don’t watch award shows but he’s just being petty.
You missed his entire point lol
Bro forgot other genres he doesn't care about exist.
Norah is very talented. I love Em, but he's wrong about Norah.
He's not lying.
Outkast had a song with Norah Jones by that time & Em says Andre 3000 is in his top 5 😅😂😅😂
But she deserved a Grammy because she had a song with Andre 3000??
@user-zy5gn9lh4f She EARNED a Grammy because her music was a far cry from what we were already listening to. AND it was good; still is. I'ma throw on a track right now 😂
@@laughingoutloud28 Em said that no one he knew in the industry even knew who she was... I've never heard a single song by her on the radio, lol not that means anything but still funny. it turns out she didn't write any of her songs either...
So in light of all that i can understand how salty you'd be if you outsold her by 20 million records, were recognized world wide etc
then lost to a nobody doing covers
@itsjustavi Check her catalog; she's not a cover artist. I'm a hip-hop head & I remember reading about Slim Shady in The Source magazine months before his first album. I didn't even know who he was but I'd listening to him dozens of times on the CaliKings Mixtape. All that to say, I'm speaking more than just generally. Her album was being played on different genres of radio stations because, at that time, it was that good. She's also a VERY shy artist so I'm not surprised younger people haven't heard of her. She's worth a listen to diversify your musical interests.
Music ain’t about who follows. It’s about music. Art.
If no one likes it it's not art. It's garbage you wasted time on..
@@joedesauteles513 BS brainless take. Popularity can be manufactured in today's age, hence real art gets overlooked.
Eminem mad that a musician with music that reaches all age groups won a Grammy. That album was a classic timeless piece. Her knowledge of music surpasses his. Everyone deserves to shine. He had his tirn too
Absolutely! He and his minions didn't KNOW about Norah's ability so THAT validates his sour grapes rant?
Wrong Norah jones is a nobody in the music industry compared to him and others that were nominated.
Half of the critics can’t even stomach him, let alone stand him
I can't tell you who the number 1 metal band is or country music star is but that doesn't mean they don't deserve their accolades.
ok, but you realize this is literally talking about beyonce with respect to country music, right?
Yes but I don't know the genre enough to know if she truly was the best or if they were hoping for a Beyonce effect four country music
@@zendoclone1what would Taylor Swift do for reggaeton music numbers?
"You think I give a damn about a Grammy?"
It seems you do slim.
Norah cleaned house that year. Was a great record.
Her voice sounds terrible.
Grammys use the most popular artist at a certain time just to increase their views and then ignore them and then they give the awards to their "darlings" like Eminem said.
Yeah picking on Norah Jones as an example of an undeserved award win is a shit example. Come Away With Me is a huge selling album, and a small piece of genius in my opinion. It's phenomenal.
Thank you Jim! Word. My sentiments exactly 😊
Who is Norah Jones though?.
Point missed. Gotcha
@James-kx6hl um what?
He wasn't Dissing Norah or Lala Dottie (if that's a real performer alias.)
It's an issue that he called out in The Real Slim Shady from his Marshall Mathers LP, a couple of years prior to The Eminem Show which he was nominated for the same year that Norah won. It's not a slight at her artistic talent or commercial success, but an issue with the Award show.
"But, Slim, what if you win? Wouldn't it be weird?"
"Why? So you guys can just lie to get me here?"
I've never really heard of Norah Jones either but that doesn't mean that her music isn't great or that she didn't deserve that award.
The point is he's calling out the Grammys for being a TV show first and then an award show
“Don’t know why” by Norah jones is a slap 😎

It’s pointless to tell people about her or her music. Most have simple brains that can’t grasp what a real artist is. Modern rap is garbage.
@tattooed1979 this isnt modern rap tho
@@tattooed1979 I’m with you. People like to discredit others just because it’s not your style or taste doesn’t mean it wasn’t huge

Eminem WON everyday and kept his soul in the process❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤amen
I am not surprised that Eminem doesn't like that the Grammy's are about talent and skill, not just a popularity contest.
He didn't say that he's saying that the grammys pick who they want not who deserves it. You don't got to be bigger then eminem but being known should be a good indicator if you should win a grammy.
If the Grammys are for talent than how did Beyonce win you sound crazy it ain't never been about Talent it's always been about who they want to win not on top of that it's stupid that they got the Grammys then you have the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which anybody could be added to and that's pretty stupid because it's called The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame what they need to do is separate all this music and make their own awards for each individual Jireh of music
Nora Jones was doing music with ANDRE 3000 back then and is an AMAZING TALENT for the ignorant ones who think she's not good BECAUSE YOU DONT SEE HER ON MTV VIDEOS AND TRL.. LOL. She also won or was nominated for a Grammy, i believe, for her song BEST FRIEND from the movie TED.
