In this video I talk about my journey as a motorcycle rider from learning on a dirt bike 19 years ago to buying my first bike and now being a happy Vulcan 650 owner!
I learned to ride on a Yamaha TT 125 dirt bike in high school and then didn't ride anything for 16 years!! I went to Paris a few years ago (2018) and sat on a bunch of motorcycles in various showrooms and just remembered how fun it was to ride. So I signed up for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) riding course, got my motorcycle license, and then bought my first bike, the CSC SG250 San Gabriel. These are excellent beginner motorcycles.
Mastered the SG250 within 1 month and then had to move to something bigger and more powerful so bought a used 2005 Honda Shadow Spirit 750. Needed something more modern so sold that bike 1.5 years later (December 2020) and bought a 2017 Kawasaki Vulcan 650 S earlier this year which I currently own and LOVE.

I just learned how to ride this year at age 40yr. I had wanted to learn since my early 20's but got scared off after running into several people that had been in bad accidents. This year, I decided I am not getting any younger and life is short, so i better get moving if i ever want to ride. Took the MSF course and bought a used Vulcan S as my very 1st bike! I am 5ft 3in. The bike feels very manageable for my frame and I can flatfoot it with ease. I absolutely love it!!
Congrats on getting your Vulcan and starting your riding journey! It's tons of fun. This bike is definitely the perfect size for beginner to intermediate riders. Also plenty of power to grow more comfortable with acceleration and high speed. Enjoy and ride safe!!

Good video...thanks. My journey...always interested in riding and went close in mid-20's but decided not to. Then determined to have my license by age 60!!! Got my learner's (here in Australia) at age 59, but missed the deadline...finally getting my license 5 months post my 60th. Looking to get my first bike - a Vulcan S as I also love them and have watched countless hours of You Tubers just like you. Had a loaner bike from a friend while I was on my Ls - a 1979 Kawasaki Z500! - but keen to now get my own wheels. Looking forward to more of your videos... :)

Is there a big difference in riding a cruiser and a sports bike? I’ve had a CBR 600 since I’ve started riding. I’ve never ridden a a cruiser, ever. lol I’m gonna trade it for a Vulcan 650 but I just wondering if it was hard to get used to the riding position and differences between the two when going from a sport bike to a cruiser.
It's a big difference in terms of the riding position and comfort. I find cruisers much more comfortable on the wrists knees and back. However at the end of the day it's still the same as riding any other bike in terms of you being able to ride it. I would say sport bikes are harder to ride compared to cruisers due to the riding position difference. good luck and ride safe!

Niice, mine is a 2017. I am glad they add the gear indicator for all models after 2017.
Here’s my journey ( all new bikes ) :
1996 ( Suzuki Samurai - 100 CC)
2005 ( Hero Honda Karizma - 223 CC)
2017 ( Royal Enfield Thunderbird - 350 CC)
2019 ( Kawasaki Vulcan S - 650 CC)
I don’t think there’ll be any more upgrade since I paid $10K for Vulcan ( that’s how much it costs here in India ) !
I have tried the first three, Sathish Ji. I am afraid I could try the fourth one. 😅

What do you use for video and audio? The video is crystal clear and the audio is good too.
Thank you, yea I love riding through these forests! I use a gopro hero 8 for video and a tascam dr-05x handheld audio recorder with purple panda lav mic. All purchased from Amazon.
What câmara settings do you use on the go pro ?
1080p, 60fps, iso max 1000. Nothing special. Hardest part is getting the brightness correct. Tons of videos on UA-cam on best GoPro settings. Best to just experiment with it.
Would you recommend this bike as a first bike for a rider that’s never ridden before?
It depends on how quickly you are able to learn how to ride and your confidence level. The Vulcan 650 has a lot of power for new riders and can be dangerous. If you have self control and confidence then it is a perfect bike because you can grow into it and then have more fun once you gain experience. Otherwise get a bike like 400cc or less.
Thanks for the fast reply. Self control I have. Confidence not as much, just because I’ve never rode a motorcycle before. I was just more curious if the throttle and clutch on this bike are tuned in a way that is okay for new riders or if I should look for something smaller.
@@11spitdms the stock clutch and throttle can take some getting used to. Clutch levers are hard to pull do you can easily swap out the levers for shorter easier pull. The throttle is jumpy and jerky on stock but you can get a booster plug and it improves throttle response and reduces jerkiness. Overall I would recommend you get a smaller bike and build confidence on it then you can always sell it and upgrade.
Good video and similar story to mine. I had a friend with a dirt bike but didn't take the plunge until I was older when I passed the dealer one day on the way home from work and stopped in to look. Signed up for the MSF when I got home, took the class on a similar Honda and two weeks later, I bought the 650 s which has been my only bike. I'm contemplating upgrading to an X Diavel but it would be very hard to get rid of the Vulcan which has all the benefits of seeing a psychiatrist at a fraction of the cost! If you ever get around to organizing a Vulcan S group ride, let me know. Peace...
Awesome dude! The diavel is nice but you will feel it is heavier and less nimble compared to the vulcan! Also pretty pricey. Are you in NJ? I am going to start a NJ vulcan riders group soon so we can schedule group rides and meet ups.
@@Kamdorian Yeah man, the XDS is pretty steep, no doubt about it but it's like the big bro to the VS so I might have to have both;-) I'm not in Jersey but need to burn some vacay so Its a possibility. Ride safe!

Thanks for the video, I almost finished my driving school for A category (EU), theory 1 month and driving is 1 month. First time on bike after if I Pass the exam this bike is my goal :D I hope it is a good bike for beginners.
Good luck in the driving school! It is a great bike for beginners but it does have significant power so be careful not to pull the throttle too hard and fast until you are more experienced and confident. Ride safe!

Really like the Vulcan S. Almost got one myself, but I sat on the Rebel 1100, and I just knew. I'd love to add the Vulcan if I ever could get a second bike, tho. Safe travels! ✌🏽
I was debating really hard on getting the rebel 1100 before I got the Vulcan. I had same feeling as you when I sat on it in the showroom but man price tag was too high for new one compared to a used Vulcan and no used rebel 1100s yet lol I definitely want a rebel 1100 and a Harley in the garage next the Vulcan one day. How's the rebel? Did you get an aftermarket exhaust on it?
@Kamdorian Yeah, it's really hard to beat the Vulcan in value. So far, I love my Rebel. Still running the stock exhaust, but thinking about the new full length Vance & Hines they made for the 1100T. Safe travels! ✌🏽

Cool video. I started after a moped with a 750 cc 82 Honda Sabre. After many years I felt I have to get back into riding. First a 2019 125 Honda monkey,
Than a 2020 Honda 300 CBR. Next was the 2020 Kawasaki 650S Vulcan.
Finally in this March the 2021 Honda Rebel 1,100 cc DCT. The Vulcan was the most fitting bike for me ergonomically. I'm 5'10.5.
Great journey! You went through many bikes, yea Vulcan also has best ergonomics for me. I can't wait to test ride the rebel 1100. Did you get the manual or auto transmission? Any issues with the bike so far?

I got the DCT. Dual clutch outomatic version.
You can totally custom tune it For your riding habits. It's very exciting.
I like it a lot. There is a guy in Texas " Quasimotard" he put up a bunch of videos up on it on utube. You should watch it. He is very knowledgeable.

Have you upgraded the exhaust , yours sounds much better than stock?

@@Kamdorian Thanks for the link, I’ve tried a few aftermarket ones, delkevic, black widow but the sound wasn’t what I was looking for. So I’ve ordered the CS one via your link today, it’s about 6 to 8 weeks shipping to the UK so have to be patient.
Have you looked at seat upgrade, that’s my other bug bear' stock one just not comfortable over anything longer than 10 miles or so without a break?
@@andytudorjones yea those exhausts are pretty loud, I think the cs racing and arrow exhaust are best ones for nice sound not too loud but still a clean rumble. Thanks for using the link you will enjoy the exhaust. The stock seat is terrible some found relief with using the extend reach seat since it has a gel insert but its not great for shorter riders because it sits you further back. The airhawk improves riding time without discomfort but it's still not good enough for longer rides over 1.5hrs. I may get a core seat one day but their expensive. Many in UK have loved the core seat and see as a major improvement. It's just on the expensive side so I figured I'd try the airhawk first (less than $100).
