Let's meet our dj for episode 554, Deselecta:
1. Tell us about any gigs you have coming up:
At the time of writing this, I will be playing with my Militant Music family this coming Thursday! (4/06/24). We’ll be in Peckham at The Four Quarters, MM were the first to take me seriously as an artist and are all such passionate lovers of all dance music - I love them a lot !
In Essex I will be playing for Untz on the 12th July & Groove Sanctuary on 3rd August. It’s always nice being on home soil as there is now an abundance of new promoters trying to bring the underground to Colchester, which I really appreciate as it is in these spaces that I had some of my first powerful experiences with dance music! Lastly, I have 2 unannounced sets thus far in Bristol & 1 in Sheffield (!!) from September. I can’t put into words how excited I am for these, more details to follow!
Tell us about your crew, Bad B!tch Dubz:
I met the BBDubz girls when they were hosting open deck nights at The Crown, in Bristol! At that point I didn’t know that many women or nb people personally that made music, and I wanted to find a space to connect in that way. BBDubz has been instrumental in me feeling as though I can hold my own in a mix, because they are so appreciative and supportive of me, even though we each have a very different and distinct sound. They’re very driven and talented people that have a lot of respect from me, and collectively we’re working hard behind the scenes on our production - which we will soon be sharing so watch out for that on the BadBitchDubz Instagram!
What musical instrument has the most annoying sound to you?
Hahaha, I didn’t think I would reach a point where I’d say this, but I find long-winded piano breakdowns quite grating these days, especially in a tune that is otherwise breakbeat heavy. When I first started going to jungle parties, happy hardcore and rave were elements of the event, but not the entirety so I quite actively enjoyed them, since then most of the artists I know are producing and playing a lot of Jungle Techno, so I prefer other styles these days. That being said, I still think Rhodes are beautiful in atmospheric tunes, and they breathe so much life into them - they are essential to the genre.
