Fuel injected Triumph 2.5PI, as used by the Met Police. Super fast when the injection system is properly set up. Capable in excess of 125mph with manual/overdrive running on five star fuel and 0-60 in just under 8 seconds. 80-100 in direct top simply unmatched by any saloon of the day except an XJ12 or Double Six. All stats given in the magazines get the performance of this model wrong. Twin carb versions were breathlessly fussy above 3,700 rpm on what is an unusually long stroke engine, but with the early pre- '73 PI system, the engine revs smoothly right up to the 5,850 rpm red-line when on-song; usually on a hot, late afternoon in the summer. Best car I ever owned.
@@briansaiditsoitmustbetrue4206 the cars in this video are a 1978 Ford Capri 3.0 S, and a 1971 Triumph 2500 PI, the Capri being 44 years old and the triumph 51 years old. So yes your modern car will be faster than cars that are 44 and 50 years old, what’s your point? Cars in the future will be faster than your fiesta.
@@Mk7adxm My current sober Lexus GS will leave my beloved old 83 Cavalier SRi for dead. Yet that thing seemed so much quicker at the time! Agreed...you can't compare different generations for performance at all. Both the Ford and the Triumph were two of the fastest cars on the market at the time...
Yeh my dad used to race one. A mk1. 2.5pi and he towled up the pack. I have a photo of him overtaking some turbo porche. He was quite proud of the car that day. Early on in his racing it there really wasnt a car in his class that could go up against the triumph on the track.
he wasnt around a lot as my DNA providers split when i was a kid but i always remember the cars my Dad used to turn up in in the late 70s and early 80s, capris, cortinas, a triumph, one JAAAG (i think that was the one i sat on his knee in and steered it down the road at the back of the house, stuff Health and Safety lol) , and a volvo (went to pick that up with him) watching the professionals and sweeney always reminds me of them.
Both action-packed car chase sequences featured here were actually from the same episode of The Professionals titled Man Without a Past. The Ford Capri driven by Bodie (portrayed by the late Lewis Collins) is quite a cool car. The very same incidental music was used on both these action-packed car chase sequences of the Man Without a Past episode of The Professionals. An American plainclothes FBI officer (portrayed by the late Ed Bishop) was behind the wheel of a Triumph 2000 or 2500 sedan. I like watching these 2 action-packed car car chase scenes. Cool stuff.
Can’t beat a 3.0 Capri, my dads had a 3.0 Ghia mk2, and several mk3 2.0 S, and a 2.8i but never a 3.0S, also I have some other videos on here you might like👍🏻
Exhilerating or what! I thought the way Bodie ran up to the Triumph and flung the door open was very fast. I would have struggled to open the damn door!
Yeah it’s one of the many reasons I wanted mine too, you can’t beat watching top things like the professionals, the Sweeney, Starsky and hutch, dukes of hazard etc.
2:01 : the capri loses easily the traction, while the triumph even if it rolls, it is nevertheless stuck on the road. better handling characteristics for the triumph.
@Mark Morrissey you must be getting loads of crap from othee drivers because you are slow mate with your capri. Capri is best when meant for clothes. It would suit you.

Both Capris used in the series are currently up for sale at Silverstone auctions according to Harrys garage

Those Triumphs could shift as well.
That Triumph looked like a waterbed on wheels. 😁
I can't believe those Rostyle wheel trims stayed on the Triumph PI, mine used to come off the Vitesse running over cats eyes!

Triumph 2000 I think. Even a 2.5 pi wouldnt keep up with a 3lt capri.
@@davidfarmer2049 It's a 2.5 Pi and a well sorted one would eat the Capri for breakfast !!

@@davidfarmer2049 it was, yeah, most of the Capri Ghias are automatic.
@@Mk7adxmyes I know. what was the top gear? 20 mph/1000? 21?
I suspect the tow bar caused the Triumphs rear end bias! Thanks for the HD

@@mr.summerset8054 Your personal opinion. Michelotti's design is timeless and light years ahead from capri styling. This is a public opinion.
Why would the CIA need a towbar?!
I LIKED THE SCENE
Had a Blue 1978 3.0S in 1993, paid £700 for it,
👍👍
Possibly chose the Triumph as a dirty dig to BL for messing them about in the first series.

CI5 one, FBI nil. 😁♥️
:)
It would no even been near the Capri if you could drive
I would understand if you could spell.
